Brickhouse Cafe is a definitely hidden, and it might just be a gem. I've lived in this area for four years, and never before did I recognize this quaint brick house as being a restaurant. It's not only "just a restaurant", but it is actually quite good. The smell of garlic permeates your nose as you sit at the bar (it seemed like a reservation was necessary to get a table) and gaze at the various boxing memorabilia hanging on the walls. From what I could gather from these artifacts, the owner was once a boxer, and later attempted to combine his two loves, boxing and Italian cuisine, within four walls of a restaurant. He seems to have been successful at least in one respect, as my tastebuds continue to be saturated with roasted garlic from the olive oil concoction served with our bread. The fresh-tasting Verdicchio sauce spread atop my multigrain spaghetti (~$17) was also impeccable. In addition, two portions of leftovers remained after I had finished. With regards to the "other" theme of the restaurant, the boxing gear and newspaper clippings are limited to the bar area, and are actually quite interesting to read/view. On display, there was even headgear that was allegedly used in the first Rocky movie. If his purpose was to display his valued boxing possessions, then I suppose he succeeded in that respect as well. Brickhouse Cafe is certainly a place worth revisiting. Just be sure to find a parking spot in the lot across the street, or else you might be out of luck! read more

Came here Sunday night. Good points? Buzzy place with great atmosphere with punters clearly enjoying themselves. Service is good, if a little too quick. We'd had our food for 5 minutes when we were asked if we'd finished. The restaurant is accommodating; they substituted veggies for pasta. Portions are huge, if you like that sort of thing. Bad points? Our veal Marsala with mash and broccoli arrived very shortly (i.e. less than 10 mins) after we ordered it. Never a good sign. Food was lukewarm and tasteless. Veal and bacon was chewy and tough. In fact the meal was so disappointing that I started on the bread basket. Unfortunately that too was dry, hard and unappetizing. Hmm. I would like to give it 3 stars for the atmos, but the food was so poor that I can't. If I'm in the area I would definitely stop in for a drink only. read more

Went here for dinner with my Dad tonight while visiting from out of state. Apparently it's a pretty popular place because he & my Mom tried to go over the weekend but it was too crowded so they had to leave. It is on the small side, so that might explain the weekend craziness but it has a nice cozy atmosphere inside. The staff were friendly & helpful. It took awhile for them to bring the bread but it turns out they were waiting for a fresh batch to come out of the oven. My Dad & I both ordered the chicken & broccoli & we both thought it was yummy! It is a bit on the pricey side but not outrageous. It would be a good place for a date or catching up with an old friend over a nice dinner. I would definitely go here again & I would definitely order the chicken & broccoli again. read more

Mixed bag resulting in a 3-Star rating on my first visit. The apps we got were tasty and reasonably sized for the price. There were three of us in my party, and two of us, including myself enjoyed our mains. I had the rigatoni dish and would order that again. I would caution you to stay away from the meatballs, which I got as a side. They are big and look appetizing, but they had a too-thick crust on the outside and were a bit dry and bland. Definitely not made that day, and if they were shame on them. One of our party got a pizza and it was simply substandard. Tasted like they used their marinara instead of a proper pizza sauce, and it was bland until you hit a basil strip, and then it was too much. Service was below par - slow and infrequent. Most frustrating was waiting 15-20 minutes for them to take my credit card so I could pay, and this was on a slow night. I can't pan the place because 2/3 of us liked our dishes and the apps (arancini and involtini) were quite good. There is definitely enough to choose from on the menu to bring me back. It's also a cute neighborhood spot. The place needs to pay attention to detail just a bit more to take it up a notch. And rethink that pizza sauce. read more

I LOVE this place. It's very cozy and has delicious Italian food: My favorite was the Seafood Stuffed pepper, and the Arancini. I made a meal out of those two and it was just perfect! I've also had the eggplant Involtini, which is to die for!!! We usually sit at the bar, and talk to the lovely bartender Lori. She's very friendy, and makes DELICIOUS martinis. The Brickhouse Cafe is an awesome unpretentious cafe with ample parking, great food, reasonable prices and a wonderful vibe. The calamari, meatballs and Italian rice balls are all terrific. My only caution is that portions are generous; my advice is go easy on the appetizers if you are ordering dinner. The ceasar salad is unique; it comes in a very cool bread bowl. After wolfing down salad and appetizers I was done but the dinners and pizzas going by looked so good I will be back. Service is prompt and friendly. Friendly and efficient service. Authentic food. You can come for anything from a date to a family outing or enjoy the company of others while watching a game at the bar. Portions are large but not because they're compensating for quality! The taste of everything was delicious right down to both white and whole wheat bread at every table. I discovered Brickhouse several years ago when my mother and I went out for a girls night. I've been at least half a dozen times, if not more and can at least say that in my experience they are consistent. In all of my experiences, the staff were friendly and they've always given great suggestions (I can be indecisive ) that I was happy with. You'll want to come hungry because the portions are quite large. Based on that, I do think the prices are fair - even the appetizer salads are large, and having leftovers the next day makes lunch easy! The food is very good, though it leans closer to American-Italian than true Italian. IMO the dishes could use a little extra seasoning, but I like strong flavored. I do agree with other reviews that the parking is limited. Be sure to put the destination in your GPS or you'll drive right by - the signage isn't great and the building doesn't exactly stand out. I believe if they could find a larger space, perhaps with outdoor seating, they would do even better. The space as-is is homy and comfortable but loud. Maybe not a great place for a first date and I wouldn't suggest it for families with small children - but it's got a welcoming, casual neighborhood feel. I'll be back (again). read more

I'm stingy with five star reviews, which is the only reason I am not giving Brickhouse Cafe a a 5-star rating. The food was perfect, but I only had an eggplant parmeson appetizer with a meatball the size of my head. My beer was good. My server was good. The bread was soft, warm, and delicious - served with a generous portion of roasted garlic, olive oil, and spices. I have no complaints, but I should really stop back and try more. I placed an order through Uber Eats at the Brickhouse Café, scheduled in advance with an hour and a half notice, and the restaurant never confirmed. Upon contacting support at Uber Eats, the restaurant was contacted directly and asked to confirm the order, and they responded with a cancellation, telling the rep on the phone that they were too busy to fulfill the order. I have never had that happen, and I'm absolutely shocked that a business would conduct themselves in this way. Now I'm off to find dinner elsewhere. read more

I easily just had the worst breakfast of my life. I need to preface all of this by saying our waitress, I believe her name was Kendra, was fantastic. She was positive, polite, energetic and attentive. In fact, there should be more servers like her. The manager was also very friendly and professional. I got an eggs Benedict with bacon. My mother also got a corned beef hash Benny. the bacon was burn (and I like crispy so it's usually ok) but it was way to greasy and flavorless. My English muffins were way over toasted and dry whereas my mothers weren't toasted enough. They also put very small dollops of hollandaise as a topper, I had to ask for a side. When you think to yourself "I can make this better at home" you've got a problem. In fairness, I've heard their Italian dinners are great and the portions are large. I don't see what all the negative posters were up about. Sure everybody has a bad day but I gotta say this place was great on the first visit; so great in fact we're returning within the same WEEK for visit number two. Need I say more? OK, I will. Both the rice balls and eggplant appetizers were outstanding. The Italian Combo Plate special was superb, and the bread pudding dessert a la mode was excellent. Portions were huge so we split everything and ordered less; this made it quite reasonable in price. Very friendly and competent service. Excellent margarita prepared tart just as we ordered it. Homemade breads and garlic oil for dipping were great. My only complaint is that it's a bit loud in the dining room but then again people are having a good time here. I don't wonder why. Update: OK, we've had the second visit. The stuffed mushroom special appetizer was delicious. The chicken parmesan was excellent. Now for the bad news; the cannoli dessert was disappointing. I guess we should have gone with the recommended desserts from other bloggers. But we struck out on our own, and it was a mistake. The pastry shells were none too fresh and quite hard and thick. yuck. The Lemon cheese filling was uninspired... though the fresh strawberries on the side helped a lot. But because of this, I'm downgrading from five to four stars. I guess I was right; everybody does have a bad day. read more

Lately when I drive by Brick House I've been noticing that there's a bigger crowd and that the place looks nicer than it used to. So we gave it a try the other night and indeed there was a big crowd and a nice large bar and some very nice people behind it. The wine list (and I'm always looking at the chardonnay) was okay. I had the chicken piccata which was good, as were the freshly cooked and plentiful (there must have been a half pound of broccoli) vegetables. A lot of people were ordering the pizza and it looked so good I almost broke my rule of never ordering pizza except at a pizza parlor. Everyone there must live or work in the neighborhood because the parking area is almost impossible to find. That must cut down on the crowds and might have been the reason we could find 2 seats at the bar on a Friday night at 8. I'll go back. read more

BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTT, you may want to hire a police detail for the busy night to cross people or get some sort of pole lighting. You can afford it since you are always busy. Atmosphere was decent. We sat at the bar while waiting for a table. Drink prices were average. Once seated at our table we looked at the menu. My husband and I went here for New Years Eve. The staff was really helpful and friendly by squeezing us in for last minute reservations. I was really impressed with the friendliness of the staff and owner. Our appetizer, fried calamari, was delicious and a perfect portion. My chicken parm was amazing and we brought it home as leftovers which served as another meal. My husband got the clams posilipo which he said was phenomenal. The dessert was amazing as well - warm chocolate brownie served with ice cream and nuts. Save room for dessert. Overall very impressed! I can't wait to go here again. This place has pretty good food, I usually always get the whole wheat pizza or eggplant parm, both of which I would recommend. The downside is I have occasionally gone there and received sub-par service, waitress not really super dedicated but I have been a waitress myself many years ago, so I kind of understand getting frustrated on super busy nights. If youre not a stickler for perfect service I would say give it a shot as the food is good and would be worth trying. read more

This is a very good, casual Italian Restaurant. Great atmosphere. Parking is a little challenging, but the food is worth it. The portions are generous, and the restaurant pays attention to detail with homemade breads, outstanding meatballs, and homemade ravioli that will have you questioning yourself why you never order ravioli anymore. If possible, try to save room for dessert. They have some bread pudding options as well as twists on creme brulee like Baileys Irish cream brulee. You should know the restaurant is not large, so if you are going with more than 4 people, you might want to get reservations. We also had friendly and attentive service from the staff. read more

My family and I went to the Brickhouse Cafe for my birthday. On first arrival it has a cute, cozy exterior and located on a busy road. Parking is an issue, and we had to find parking on a side street. For a Wednesday night the place was packed! The restaurant is pretty small and tables are more suitable for parties of four or more. We had reservations at 7 pm and were not seated until 730. The staff, however, was wonderful and our waitress was knowledgeable and kind. Large portions for decent prices. A little heavy on the garlic for my liking, but overall decent Italian fare. Both my boyfriend's and mine beer was flat, but did not detract away from the meal. Wow - I'll admit, I've lived in Dedham for 2 years and ran out of new places to go to. Brickhouse Cafe exceeded all expectations and was a great place to eat, I'll be back there soon. Walking in, you see a nice townie bar with locals and a restaurant area. Plenty of space to sit and nice ambiance. Great service, I particularly love the bourbon flight! The food was delicious. This was my first visit here for dinner and I was so happy with everything that I can't wait to come back! Came for breakfast. Food is gross and nothing special. Ordered eggs, pancake and sausage and all was cold. Pancake was thin and tasteless, syrup cheap and low quality and the home fries were from a frozen package. Service incredibly slow and inattentive. Had been wanting to try this place for a while so we went for brunch (on a Saturday around 12pm). First off, parking is terrible around the restaurant. When we got in, the restaurant was about half full and we got seats almost right away. It took about 10-15 minutes for the waitress to come over and even ask us which drinks we wanted. "Bottomless" coffee cant be bottomless if your waitress doesnt even ask if you want a refill and I believe it was $2.50ish for each coffee. When we finally got to ordering our food, it was 50-60 minutes until we got the the orders. The food was mediocre, toast only had butter on a corner of one of the four pieces and one order of toast didn't even have any butter on it nor was it even toasted, one of the omelettes were noticeably smaller than another, and the sausages were overcooked. What a shame, if the place was packed I could maybe make sense of the poor service and food, but not when it's not even a little over 50%. Poor service, poor tip. Probably won't give it another try. read more

Food was good and the prices were fair. Home fries were excellent. I ordered a coffee and an ice water. They were brought quickly. I drank some coffee and finished my water. Then I waited at least ten minutes with an empty water glass. The third time we went I explained that I was going to go through a lot of water and asked if she could leave a pitcher of water with us. She sort of laughed and said no - it was the same waitress as the previous trip. I asked if she could bring me 2 large glasses of water. She brought me 1. Again she left me without water for a long time. I actually walked up to the bar to get a refill. The place was not busy - if it was and they were short staffed I'm much more understanding of stuff like this. Food was really good. Waitress was below average. Next time I'm asking for 3 glasses of water and will press her if she only brings one. PS - The second time we went we were sat in the dining area and waited for ten minutes without being greeted by any waiter / waitress. We were under a tight timeframe so we left and went down the street. Food wasn't as good but we were in and out in 20 minutes. From now on we'll always eat in the bar area. Short sample size but service seems faster than the dining room - at least for breakfast. read more
