Was very good, great atmosphere, great wait staff, food was fine. Bit expensive. Started with the burrata app which my friend really liked. Then got the 3 course fixed price. Salad was outstanding and definitely my favorite. Don't miss that with the shaved parm on top. Took home chicken parm which was huge, and hubby loved it for dinner. Cannoli was great. Standard. Over the past few visits to Il Massimo I've noticed a huge improvement in the food and service! The staff has been very attentive and friendly each visit. Our servers were quick to refill our waters and check if we needed anything else throughout our visit. The food comes out pretty quickly and has been consistently tasty. The restaurant is pretty big so there usually isn't much of a wait which is nice. Overall this has become one of my go to spots when I'm craving some Italian food and fresh pasta! read more

We went here on a Saturday afternoon impromptu. They had some outdoor seating with the umbrellas which is what we opted for. Our appetizer were mussels and GF calamari. Both dishes were good. We also good some GF rolls for the table. The diet-coke we ordered was flat, no sign of any carbonation! Our server tried another tap and was hoping for better results but there was nothing much he could do. Our mains we ordered gnocchi with short rib and a branzino. Branzino was cooked to perfection and the peppadew peppers added a nice touch and color and depth to the entire dish, we loved it. The gnocchi was delightful and very filling and that came home with us. And we also enjoyed a gluten-free lava cake. So thankful for the gluten free menu they have. read more

Had a great dinner here with my MIL and husband- a really nice sit down option at Legacy Place. We didn't have a reservation but luckily we were able to get seated. It took us a little time to flag down our server but all good. We shared an order of the calamari which was served with a lemon-y aioli and fried capers. I've never had calamari with capers but it added a really nice briny flavor that complemented the calamari (which were of course fried to perfection!) Bread basket was phenomenal too- the focaccia was delicious and I totally ate way too many before my meal came... For mains, we got the short rib gnocchi, the lasagna and fettuccine bolognese. All three dishes were delicious and rich and flavorful, and the pasta was al dente. I can see this place being a great place for families and group meals! read more

I was lured to this place because of their patio. Sitting on the patio, I was enjoyed a glass of Sauvignon blanc while reading my book. This restaurant offers complementary bread and olive oil. The olive oil has real olives in it which is a nice touch. My entree was the fusilli con polpette e burrata. While the presentation was beautiful, the entree itself wasn't flavorful. I asked my waiter for some red pepper flakes to add some flavor. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but I won't be rushing back anytime soon. read more

Yesterday I came here with some coworkers, i ordered the short rib gnocchi and cannoli trio and tried some calamari appetizer. Calamari appetizer-Good lemony flavor, tasted fresh. Gnocchi with short rib ragu- short rib was super tender and juicy, sauce was sweet but not too sweet. Good flavor. The gnocchi had just the right amount of chew and was generous with the portion. Cannoli trio-1 chocolate chip cannoli, 1 orange cannoli, 1 pistachio cannoli. The cannoli cream tasted very fresh, just the right amount of sweetness, very generous with the chocolate chips. Super tasty. Overall: if ever in the area, check them out, they are quite good. read more

I really wanted to like Il Massimo given the convenient location (for anyone visiting Legacy Place in Dedham). Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed in every respect The service was 'okay' - not particularly bad, but not great either. We were surprised to see the folks delivering food from the kitchen went to wrong person/table on the first attempt nearly every time we witnessed them. The food was 'okay' - not particularly bad, but not very good either. Our dishes were VERY over-sauced and when my fiancée complained that her broccoli rabe tasted "off" she was told "broccoli rabe often tastes sour." Really? You don't asssume the 50-something-year-old couple you're serving has never had broccoli rabe before? She eats all the time and usually loves it. It was inedible. The ambiance is in the same category, not 'bad' but not very inspired either. I'm sort of shocked the Yelp community finds Il Massimo with 4-star-worthy. I hate to say, but I think they can do much, much better -- and I hope they do. read more

Excellent service, lovely spot. Have been here a few times, never run across a dish we didn't like. Sauce was lighter, delicately seasoned, meatballs are denser, mostly beef, more my style than my wife's. Good vegetarian options during Lent, went for lunch when they first opened, got a delicious baked gnocci. read more

Hadn't popped in for a solo lunch date in years had to come make sure they were still here and they did not disappoint. I opted for the 3 Course Presto lunch. My choices were the Insalata di Cesare, Risotto di Mare, and the Tiramisu. The Cesare and Tiramisu were absolutely delicious.I was pleased with the amount of seafood in the Risotto, although I would have liked one more shrimp to balance the mussels and clams. The flavor could have been a bit more present the cheesy flavor was there but I still felt it could've used a bit more oomf I did add salt and pepper to pick it up as best I could but definitely would like to see some more flavor profiles added.Thank you to Cesar for taking care of me and checking on me with each dish he was a delight on this lovely September day! read more

My mom and I are in town to visit my brother in law who has cancer and isn't doing well. He needed some rest so we left the hospital and wanted somewhere to eat and so happy we stumbled upon this place. Seymour was so kind and welcoming and seated us quickly. There was quite a rush so he stepped in and helped our lovely server Sophia. they were both so caring and amazing and helped us have a little break and a wonderful lunch that was truly needed. The food was delicious and ambiance very nice. Thankful for them and this experience to brighten our day. read more

Another restaurant has fallen. I have been coming here since they opened in Dedham. I love the food, drinks, and the staff. But tonight was disappointing. As I was paying the bill, I noticed I was overcharged. When I asked about the charge, I was informed that it was a surcharge for sausage. I did not realize that the dish did not come with sausage. There was nothing on the menu and the staff did not say there would be a surcharge. The manager was kind enough to remove the charge but informed me that in general people assume there would be a surcharge. This was confusing because I would never assume anything. I expect the menu or staff to be update to date. I am not an expert so I thought it was natural my pasta came with sausage because it was in the title. In general restaurants will let you know there is an up charge to add items or customized. While I greatly appreciate the manager and staff. I feel someway that the expectation to know prices was placed on me rather than be transparent. It was never like this before. read more

Dropping the 5 star because this place actually has a Happy Hour for food.....and a pretty good one. Sit at the bar and order early and all appetizers are 1/2 off.....yay!!!!!! Not only that but great selection and very yummy. While I only really dine at the bar and have eaten here a bunch of times, each time I was able to fully enjoy the food and the good selection of wine available. While the food isn't up to the caliber of nearby Capitol Grill.....it's good and a lot more affordable. Great place to eat after shopping or to stop for quick drink and appetizer. read more

Cancelled a reservation quite last minute, was told it would be a 10$ charge for cancellation. Sounded reasonable. But I was charged $160. Upon asking I was told it's in the fine print- $20 per person for cancellation. I did not read the fine print because over the phone I was told $10. I was hoping hearing this there would be some resolution and they would help me out, if not waive then reduce the charge. I feel cheated as one of their employee told me $10. Picked this spot to celebrate our anniversary and had a wonderful time. The decor is cozy and it was very quiet for our late lunch. We did the three course lunch special which was such a great deal. We both had the kale/white bean soup to start which was delicious! For meals, I had the chicken piccata and my partner had chicken parm. Both were a generous portion and very tasty. I enjoyed my restaurant week visit to this restaurant. I was surprised the 3 courses were actually not that bad and had quite the options. We got calamari, gnocchi with chicken, and tiramisu for dessert. The choices we picked were nothing special, BUT the calamari and tiramisu were delicious! This place is cute. The staff are really nice and attentive. I went here for "dine out boston" so the meals I chose off the prix fixe menu were the caesar salad, the carbonara, and the tiramisu. The caesar salad was pretty flavorless. The carbonara had a hint of acidity that punched the back of my throat and reminded me of throw up, I just hope I got a bad batch and it's normally good, but based on that, I can't recommend it, in hindsight, I should have spoken up though and requested to swap my meal out or something. My partner got the chicken piccata which was pretty good, not what I think of as a "classic" chicken piccata, but still good, and the green beans were garlicky (just how I like them). The tiramisu was okay. For an italian place, I expected better. The balance between mascarpone and lady fingers was off, and it seemed only the bottom layer was damp with espresso, none of the ladyfingers were "espresso soaked" as they should be. If you didn't come here for "dine out" week, and got different menu items, I'm sure you'd have a great experience here read more

Had a chance to try this restaurant for lunch the other day. I didn't order from their lunch menu, rather their dinner menu. I ordered a cocktail and a pasta dish. The fish I ordered was squid ink pasta with lobster meat. I asked the waiter if I can have extra cooked pasta since I don't like mine Al Dente. He said pasta is pre-cooked so he basically said no extra cook time, then he proceed to ask me if I want to add chicken or beef? I was very confused since I ordered a lobster pasta dish, didn't think I'd need to add more protein to my dish. The pasta came out quickly and as suspected the pasta was al dente. The sauce and lobster meat saved the dish. The sauce was very tasty. My pineapple cocktail was very strong, caught me by surprise. The place is quite big and clean. It was our first visit to the restaurant for dinner: it has been on our list for quite some time. (I am posting this about two months later!) A valet whisked our car away, to return it on our departure- quite convenient. We were seated in a comfortable spot in the old fashioned dining area- a pleasant space. Our server Nathan was personable and efficient. We had decided to observe "dry January " - and now being out of it we ordered some wine: a glass of Montepulciano and a Nero d Avola, and a large bottle of sparkling water. For food we had a Saltimbocca and a pasta special. Both were good but not extraordinary. We shared a Ricotta Cheesecake and I ended with an espresso. The check came to $150 without the tip. We came by for our 530pm reservation. The place is in a large very busy shopping center type area. There is a parking facility attached but we chose to take our chances parking in the open lot closer to the restaurant. We got lucky and nabbed a spot. It was extremely busy and crowded on a Saturday night. We were seated promptly and the table was set for a birthday - mine. Our daughter and son in law are hosting and our new grandson is with us. He slept through the whole meal. Our server came by and explained the specials and various dishes. The table was decked out with stars and a nice acknowledgement of my birthday. We got cocktails and they were perfect and as ordered. I got the octopus appetizer which was wonderful and served in a bowl almost like a gumbo. The octopus was delicious and well flavored. I thought that it could have easily been served as a main. For my main I got the Mediterranean sea bass, aka Bronzino. It was nicely butterflied and served with tail no head. It was excellent and well flavored. Others enjoyed their food. Service was great. The sommelier came by to decant our Brunello and the wine was very nice. Our server was attentive and friendly. The bus service could be improved. My main was brought before our cocktail and appetizer dishes were cleared. They messed up the orders regarding who ordered what. Minor negatives. Dessert was two nice coup glasses filled with lemon sorbet with a cookie and a candle. Very nice. Ambiance was an Italian bistro. Place had a bar on the right as you enter and booths of all sizes and various tables we sat at a round table in the center of the main dining area. I've always had great experiences here! The food is delicious and portions are big plus they have great drinks. The octopus and meatballs are my favorite apps and we had the eggplant rollatini last time which was a special and was amazing!
