We stopped in for dessert and drinks. Let me start with the positive... dessert was delicious. The issue we had was with the service we received. Two of us ordered Irish coffees and one of my other friends ordered a different coffee drink. When the coffee's were served, they were just lukewarm. When my friend asked the waitress if she could just add a little hot coffee to heat it up she told her she could not do that but she could charge her for a separate coffee or heat it up in the microwave... REALLY... is it too much to simply top off the coffee! Later when we received our bills we noticed that we were being charged for the Irish coffee and then also an additional $4 for coffee. When we asked the waitress about it she said... and prepare yourself for this... she said that the Irish coffee does not include the coffee, you have to pay a separate $4 charge for the coffee. Have you ever heard of anything so ridiculous! A coffee drink that doesn't include coffee! She said we were the only customers to ever bring it up. Just how many customers have you cheated out of an extra $4 over the years? Well I can assure you that it will never happen to me again as I will never give you the opportunity... Preface: I've only been here once and maybe that's not enough to determine a rating or maybe it's plenty. You decide. Went with my boyfriend at the time & another couple. We did not go as far as ordering full on meals but ordered some appetizers. I think maybe if they had been better, we would've ordered more. I love charcuteries & they're always different everywhere you go. This one was different lol. If memory serves me right it's about $20 for this charcuterie that literally had shaved ham lunch meat that was plunked on the board. Legit looked like something you buy in the grocery store to make a sandwich with. A couple of cheeses that appeared the same. Super disappointing! A couple bourbons & a charcuterie board later and we've somehow spent $80. Our service was not the best. Not what you'd expect from a place where the prices are what they are. Love the cool ambiance of this place. When making reservations request a barrel, which provides an almost private dining experience for up to a table of 8. We enjoyed most everything, except my entree which was terrible. First, the bad. I had the nightly special which was pasta with a bland tomato basil sauce, topped with grilled chicken and fresh mozzarella. The pasta/ sauce was dried out and the chicken so dry and tough it was difficult to cut, as If it had been under a heating lamp. If I were rating on this, I would offer 1 star. Fortunately, my dining mates shared. The shrimp and grits and lobster ravioli were wonderful, as were the appetizers, a fried green tomato topped with pimento cheese and filet, and artichoke crab dip and fried pita. We ordered takeout from this restaurant to eat in a local hotel while traveling from out-of-town. The menu is impressive and sounded delicious. We tried to order delivery (DoorDash, Grubhub, and Seamless) but the restaurant does not participate in the weekend option for the delivery services. We ordered the crab & artichoke dip as an appetizer, the seafood fettuccine and pan-seared diver scallops as entrees, and creme brûlée for dessert. When I picked it up, I saw a plastic container with a smearing of something on the bottom and thought it was a topping for one of our dinners. We drove 10 minutes back to the hotel and unpacked our meal. Our first problem was discovering that the plastic container with the smear was our creme brûlée (see photos for reference) and felt that it was a stingy serving for the price. We had to dig both entrees out before getting to the appetizer which was on the bottom. The styrofoam containers were steamed and soggy and a disservice to the food. Now for the actual food. The crab & artichoke dip with toasted pita wedges was decent. It was flavorful and had a generous amount of crab. The pita was nicely crisp on the outside and soft inside. We enjoyed it. The seafood fettuccine topped with fried calamari was disappointing but ok. There were only two calamari rings on top and the pasta was over cooked, making it a bit mushy. The sauce was thick and the seafood a bit over cooked as well. The most disappointing dish was the pan-seared diver scallops. The scallops themselves were plump and succulent but the way they were seasoned and cooked made them inedible. The color came completely from a heavy handed dose of blackening seasoning that came off in clumps when I ran my fork across one. There was no beautiful brown sear one would expect on these scallops. The accompaniments were equally inedible including overcooked and over salted vegetables and rice so over cooked it was a solid, mushy clump in the container. My wife and I make it a purpose to take our guest to Bricks and Barrels and it's always been a great experience until now! We arrived at about 815pm and even asked if they would still serve us. We wait about 10 minutes before our waiter even acknowledged us as if she was hoping we would walk out. The drinks were watered down and the food was ok! This was our first experience at Bricks and Barrels. We were meeting friends there for after dinner drinks and dessert. First impressions were, the atmosphere and decor are inviting and really well done. My husband ordered a mixed drink that was blue. I forget the name but it was delicious. The tiramisu was also quite good. I ordered the Jamaican coffee.( This is where the review starts to go bad btw.) So, the coffee drink came in a regular coffee mug and was only about 2/3 full. It was also lukewarm. I'm assuming because the liquor cooled down the coffee. By the time our server came back with the desserts it was a cold drink so I asked her if she would just add a little bit of coffee to it to warm it up since the cup was only half full a that point, I had taken a couple sips. She said she could order me another cup of coffee or if I didn't want that she could just heat it up in the microwave. WHAT!? She was going to charge me extra for like 2 ounces of coffee?! Anyway, I said just heat it up. She was not a good server. At one point in the evening she says something about as long as we tip her.... She also over charged our friends on their coffee drinks and was trying to explain the reason why but was not very clear. They ended up just paying the price because by then we all were ready to leave. I'm assuming that because we were only getting desserts and drinks she didn't think our table was worth the effort but there were only about six other tables occupied in the whole restaurant. So it's not like she was busy. All of the waitstaff were hanging out up at the bar. I feel bad that we had such a poor experience because I think this could be a cool place to go regularly. But I honestly don't think we will ever try again. Managers and owners have to know that service is a huge part of the experience at their restaurants. You could have mediocre food and still get great reviews if the service is good. And the more expensive a restaurant is the better their service should be. I have been here several times, each time saying, I won't be back. It is so over priced for what you get. I had the seafood alfredo which had scallops, shrimp & some fish. Guess what; it was not alfredo- The seafood was small, sparce, and the noodles were not at all aldente. The scallops were the size of my pinky fingernail. We even started waving and people would smile and wave back but still ignore the fact we didnt even have water on the table yet. Finally had to flag a waitress down (who tried to pretend she didn't hear us) then another 5 minutes later we finally got water and apps ordered. My seared tuna was cold. Others at the table complained the pasta was over cooked. The two stars are cause the waitress did atleast attempt the bare minimum and the fried green tomatoes app was pretty good. Also parking is limited. Doubtful we'll ever be back. Definitely wouldn't recommend. In all honesty go to a chain store and save 50 bucks. Same quality food and service. read more

Came here to celebrate a birthday and the steak and lobster ordered wasn't cooked the right way, rare wasn't something that could happen. The first steak brought to the table was over cooked and then the second was completely raw, cold in the middle from the refrigerator. The lobster pop appetizer wasn't great either, they used too much batter it over powered the lobster which had a chlorine flavor as well. The hostess attempted to seat us at what would have been the busiest, most exposed table in the restaurant. We asked for a different table alongside a wall and she pushed back saying there were other reservations. We insisted and got a table where we requested. The dining room was never more than 40% full by the time we left 1 1/2 hours later. Food was fine but it took twice for my wife to get the medium rare burger she ordered. It came medium well with cool grilled Brussels Sprouts. Had to send it back to get it cooked to order and get hot Brussels Sprouts, which were a $3 up charge, and they would not substitute a side salad for fries or the upcharged side. My new favorite place to eat in all of West Virginia. I'm a huge fan of Pies & Pints, Fat Patty's, Hillbilly Hotdogs, and more but Bricks and Barrels takes the cake! It's located conveniently beside of the WV Power Park. Their food is pricier than most but is well worth it by far. Our service we received was top-notch. Our server knew the menu from front to back in detail and he always made sure our table had some sort of dish covering it even in between our appetizer and entree. When my main course arrived I was astonished! My Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection! It was so tender I could cut it with my fork. Then came the dessert. A chocolate brick?! Oh my heavens, Nikki poured hot melted chocolate over it till it crumbled onto the plate and the vanilla filling poured out. Came here for dinner with my wife and another couple a week ago. I truly wanted to like this place, but even before coming I was a bit fearful since I had read some of the Yelp reviews. Regardless, I came that evening open to the experience and tried my hardest to find things that I enjoyed. Unfortunately, there's just no way I could give this place anything above 2 stars. To start, the location is pretty nice. Easy parking with a dedicated lot. Decor is fantastic and was easily my favorite thing about the restaurant. As far as food goes, the risotto was very good and my wife really enjoyed her burger, but it was pretty much all downhill from there. I ordered the mediterranean chicken, which was okay, but a bit on the sweeter side with no contrasting savory elements. We also had the brussel sprouts, which were tasteless pieces of mush, the worst sprouts I've ever had. I also ordered the jumbo shrimp as an appetizer. For $18, we received two overcooked, rubbery shrimp with some mediocre crab on top. We ordered the creme brulee for dessert, which was described as "salted caramel", but was more like a bowl full of torched caramel...did not resemble creme brulee in the slightest. It's possible there are other items on the menu that are out of this world delicious, but unfortunately we had none of them that evening. However, the food itself isn't even my largest complaint. It's the fact that I left there feeling completely ripped off and sold a lie. This place is quite obviously billing itself as a fine dining establishment and is easily in the top 3 most expensive restaurants in Charleston, yet it completely fails to deliver in every single regard. Food quality, food selection, service...every one of these fell drastically short of what I expect when I go out to dinner and end up spending $140 for two people. They have set the bar so high for themselves that I can't possibly imagine how this place will succeed once the newness wears off, unless they make drastic changes to the menu and reduce their ridiculously high prices. I have no desire to come back here and if you're reading this asking whether or not you should, you'd be better suited to spend your money elsewhere, as there's no way you're going to get what you're paying for here. read more

New Chef, new restaurant. This spot was simply not good when it opened. However, it recently changed its chef so the menu is completely different and food is MUCH better. The fried green tomato with filet appetizer was excellent, and I don't like tomatoes, or Palmento cheese. But somehow the flavors together were very impressive. Highly recommended - even for those that don't like Palmento cheese. Just try it, trust me. New menu also has great options for those not wanting to spend $40 on a steak and offers half size side dishes for $4-5. All very worth the price. Basic dishes range from $14-30. Service is very good, wine list ample for this spot that focuses more on quality craft beers than wines. Bottom line - TRY IT AGAIN - for the first time. I had a bad experience when the place first opened then decided to give it another try. I think this place is great for appetizers and drinks but would not recommend dinner. Positives: cool atmosphere, great selection of wine and beer. Negatives: both times I visited I had undercooked meat. The first time I had veal and sent it back, they then scorched it and the rest of my sides on the plate. The second time I had salmon and as soon as I cut it open and looked up, the waiter asked if it was too raw (apparently this is a recurring problem). He said they usually cook it "medium". After two go arounds he asked me if I wanted it "cooked all the way through". He did not apologize once for undercooked salmon. I had the lamb chomps and they were prepared perfectly and when I asked if they recommended any sauce they sent a peppercorn demi-glase that was perfect. Ambiance is perfect, reclaimed wood, oak barrels and their almost famous barrel booths which are reservable. Come early for great deals on happy hour; $4 craft beer pints and they have the only Randal 3.0(device to infuse beer with fruits/peppers/espresso beans/hops) in town and do different infusions daily. They have obviously to me worked out their early growing pains and are making a name for themselves. Kinda pricey but there are value priced items too and it doesn't have to cost a ton to enjoy and evening here. Excellent new place in Charleston where there are not a lot of great restaurants. A few but not what we're used to being from a bigger city. Had read about this Spot opening a few weeks ago in the newspaper and was happy to have an opportunity to try it for dinner on a Wednesday night. Pretty good crowd, nice renovation of an old warehouse, and the food we had was really quite good. Crab Louis , chopped salad and Mediterranean chicken over cous cous were all delicious, no complaints whatsoever. Even bread was good (only given on request). Servers were nice, though perhaps a touch slow. Entrees a little pricy. Nice wine and beer list. Hope they succeed and stay around! read more

This is my favorite fine dining experience I've had in Charleston. I took my boyfriend there for his birthday in December, and the decor and table setup of this place is approachable and classy, which is perfect for us. We had the fried green tomato Napoleon, and it was delicious. Our dinners were very well prepared, and the portions were appropriately generous. I had a steak, and our waiter made sure it was cooked to my liking. We also had some of the craft beers, and they were generous servings. We were going to pass on dessert, but our waiter did his job well and convinced us to try the cookie trio. We had no regrets; those cookies were fabulous! The little skillets they are served in are adorable, and the cookies were perfect. This restaurant is great; it's fine dining without the pretentiousness, and I think it's a great choice for young people who want a fancy dinner without the stuffy atmosphere. read more
