A groovy little joint with friendly service and warm ambiance but I'm pretty sure we won't be back other than perhaps to grab a drink, maybe a pretzel? Maybe... We were well aware of the usual very slow service, which was fine since we weren't in a hurry because we were enjoying time catching up with some local friends. But the food just wasn't good and certainly not a good value. I got the fish tacos with a cup of potato leek soup, hubby got the lamb shawarma with garlic mashed potatoes and we shared a bottle of Chardonnay. With tax and tip it was $120. I know the cost of everything has gone up significantly but this was just ridic. Never again. read more

We had dinner there last night with another couple. We arrived early and were waiting in line at 5pm when they opened. It took nearly two hours for our entrees to arrive and all four were cold - not warm - cold! We didn't want to wait another two hours so we didn't send them back. We won't return. read more

Although the food was slow to come out, the server was very attentive, accommodating and gave us fair warning. We sat on patio with our dogs and had no problem sipping drinks, chatting and waiting. When the food arrived, it was delicious. No reservations about a 5 star rating. Enjoy. read more

Husband and I visited on a Saturday night. Very cozy and charming place. The roasted chicken was moist, and the mushrooms served alongside it were perfectly cooked. Definitely ensure you're not in a hurry as the food takes a while to arrive. read more

We walked right in, ordered our food and drinks, and had it in less than 15 minutes...on a Saturday night. Yummy soup and grilled cheese and my husband had the lamb shawarma. Delicious and hearty after a day of kayaking on the river. Charming pub vibe and seemed like a nice place for locals to grab a beverage. We love places like that! read more

We went to this pub on a Saturday evening. We were a party of 4. They open at 5:00 and we arrived at 5:30. They have one waitress/bartender and one chef. I was told in advance that food takes a little time to come out. I was prepared to wait a bit. By 7:30 our food had not arrived. We inquired twice during this time and were told 10-15 minutes. 3 of us gave up and left. The 4th waited. The food arrived about 10 minutes after we left. Ridiculous that staffing isn't sufficient to meet demand. I have never waited over two hours after placing my order. The waitress did not communicate with us about the delay, instead we were forced to ask. I won't be back. I would also encourage others to avoid this place if you're looking for a meal. read more

Being locals, my husband and I naturally wanted to try out the closest restaurant to where we live! Not knowing what to expect we walked in soon after they opened on a Saturday night and the bar was almost already full with customers. We weren't greeted so we went and sat down at a table. After another couple walked in and ordered directly at the register then sat down we realized that is what we should do. I confirmed with the very nice man serving food that we should do this. He offered to send the bar tender/server named Becca over to us but we were fine ordering at the register, we just wish we had known so we could have ordered sooner. I can see how the above would turn some off, but we WANTED to have a pleasant experience so we took this as a learning experience and went with it. Becca was super nice and checked on us when she could. She was busy so it was nice that she took the time to check on us, remove our dishes and even wipe up our mess! We ordered a bottle of wine (Scott Harvey, and a good price!) and a pretzel with home made cheese sauce that was to die for along with a home made pickle also delicious and mustard. $8 for hands down THE BEST by far incredible pretzel we have ever eaten!! We watched and smelled the food that came out for others and ALL looked amazing, cannot wait to go back for dinner. I did not see paper menus, instead the food items were written in chalk above the register. There was a list of about 12 entree items all $18 each with many sandwiches. Becca said the lamb shamra was really good so I am going to try that next time. There were also sides on another board for $5 each and then apps for $8 each if I remember correctly. If all their food is as good as what we tried, then these prices are perfectly reasonable. Another thing we learned is that this upscale casual pub is flexible with their hours. If business is busy, they stay open later than 9:00 pm, if they aren't, they may close early. We are out in the middle of nowhere so I totally understand this. I suggest you call if coming in late especially off-season from river rafting! We enjoyed everything about our evening at Lotus Pub and are happy to have them in the neighborhood! We want to see them succeed and have a few suggestions for the owner: 1. Have a sign at the door to explain that you can order and seat yourself. I think this would make a lot of people happy to know at the get. 2. Your food is so tasty, what about either a complimentary sampler plate OR a sampler plate to sell. If like us, one taste and customers will come back for more. One of our favorite restaurants down south does this and I can't decide if I love them because they do this, or because their food is good :) 3. Add a hostess to make the customers feel welcome and keep track of their needs. I think this would go a long way in customer service and promote business as well. read more

This may seem unfair. Unfair because I haven't had a beer at Lotus Pub or eaten there. My son has, and raves about it. But he was as river guide who frequently found himself in Lotus. We were heading to Camp Lotus for a weekend of rafting from Redding. Leaving on Friday afternoon, we didn't want to cook in camp, and our group thought the Lotus Pub would be a great option. We looked their hours up online and adjusted our departure time to make it to Lotus with time to spare, because nobody likes customers who walk in a minute before closing time..... So we walk in half an hour before their published closing time, there are about five people still drinking beers, and the employee behind the bar says she's sorry, but they closed half an hour ago. The people remaining were just finishing beers. This isn't the dawn of the Internet. And I understand Lotus is a great rural spot which somehow retains it's charm while surrounded by urban sprawl. But the simple act of updating your hours on your website, Yelp and Facebook would be really nice. Luckily the pizza place across the river was still open. read more

If what you want is a $25 sandwich that is basically a salad with a bun and a hit of meat than this is your place. But if you don't want to wait standing in line for 25 minutes to place your order and then wait another 45 min for your meal to arrive, pass on this place. You get to fill your own water glasses and don't expect any ice or a chilled drink. The fish taco looked and tasted like canned tuna and was topped with a cabbage salad. Dry and tasteless. It was cooler outside than inside and it was 100' outside. Very very disappointing! read more

Prior to moving out of the area, I used to enjoy coming here when it was Cafe Mahjaic. The food was delectable, ambiance comfortable and service lovely. If exceptionally slow due to the pretentious dictator in the kitchen. Returned to the area within the past year and after being cooped up sick for the last 3 weeks, thought tonight would be a good opportunity to try out the food at the pub. However, as I still have a wicked cough (not contagious), to keep from disturbing the the other dinners, I thought it would be nice to eat down by the river. Standing at the counter reviewing the meager offerings of $23 dollar sandwiches, (without a single vegetarian option), the surly chef turned cook (aka business owner), walks by without so much as an acknowledgement of me. I settle on a grilled cheese and soup from the sides menu, only to be told they do not offer any items to go. 'It is just to much for (that pompous ass) to handle." Now, regardless of my judgement of the abilities someone incapable of wrapping a sandwich in foil and putting sides in a cup with a lid, this would have been nice info to have prior to wasting my time and energy driving down there. And yes, I looked at Yelp, the business' pathetic excuse for a website, and even made an unanswered attempt at calling prior to my visit. None of these resources mentioned a no to go policy. Amazing array of food spanning France to the Middle East to American mac and cheese! I was meeting family at a nearby campsite and they called at the last minute to say they were running late -meaning, find your own dinner. Uh oh. I thought I'd have to drive all the way back to Placerville after an already painful 5 hr drive from SF. So when I saw the neon "PUB" sign lit only 5 minutes away from camp, I pulled over. I wasn't sure if I'd find a bar full of farm-workers chugging Coronas with tequila. I was pleasantly surprised at the clean cozy atmosphere. The menu was posted high on the walls on chalkboards - I balked initially at the prices- everything from shawarma plates to coq a vin, was $20+. But the hostess explained that the dishes included a side. We ordered at the podium and took our number to our table. The decor is rustic- wood from floor to ceiling, and booths make you feel very private like you're in your own little lodge. I ordered a shawarma plate to share- it came with salad and a side- I chose a cup of tomato basil soup. I figured I'd share it with one kid and order mac and cheese for the other. Well, the youngest/smallest waitress I've ever had (maybe 11yo? and less than 4"), came out and served us as professionally as if she'd been at it for years. My kids were tickled to be served by someone their own age! Our food was more surprising than she was. The shawarma plate was enormous- loaded with a tangy middle eastern style salad with lightly pickled vegetables dressed in the perfect amount of vinaigrette. The grilled meat wasn't your greasy meat-on-a-spit-gyro-style shawarma. It was heavenly spiced, identifiable pieces of real fork-shredded lamb, comparable in size to a corned beef sandwich at a New York deli- i.e., massive. The pita was nice and thin, crispy yet soft, so good! Unfortunately, my youngest decided it looked so good that he wanted it instead of the mac and cheese I ordered for him. Great.... I would normally rather starve than have restaurant mac and cheese but the stubborn boy wouldn't touch it after eating the shawarma. So I reluctantly pushed a few noodles around experimentally with my fork. The consistency was entirely unexpected- the noodles were perfect, not thick mushy and over cooked. The sauce was light, buttery and creamy, not thick and doughy. There were no Velveeta-y chunks, and I saw speckles of actual green herbs in the bread crumbs on top. I ended up devouring all of it- the flavor was sublime and addicting. I even used a bit of pita from the shawarma to mop-up. It was the most delicious, light yet filling mac and cheese I have ever eaten. THIS is how Mac and cheese should always be done!!!! And the tomato soup? Amazing! A riot of flavor with a dollop of olive oil on top and a teaspoon of freshly crushed basil. I was disoriented- in a pub in the woods by a tent campsite, I was eating food expertly prepared with haute cuisine skill. What?! I interrogated the hostess to discover that I had stumbled upon what had previously been a fine dining restaurant a-la-Napa. The chef had recently decided to scale it back to a more relaxed family-style bistro. He grows the vegetables and herbs next door and hand picks them for the restaurant each day. Ask her how he cooks the meat and where it comes from. She can actually tell you. I would give 6* if I could. I will never eat camp food again. Ignore all the ignorant bar flys leaving bad reviews, they haven't had the food. You get what you pay for- in this case, even more. read more

My husband and I love this place. Lotus is such a fun little town and the Lotus Pub is our favorite haunt. As other reviewers have mentioned, orders are placed at the counter as you walk in. They do tend to run out of things later in the week, so call first if you're craving something in particular. Wait times for food can be sporadic, but as long as we have a couple of beers to sip we don't mind. A lot of locals go here and the vibe is fun and welcoming. The staff is friendly and the food is fresh and delicious. Don't go there if you're impatient or prefer a more polished restaurant experience, you'll most likely be frustrated. If you're a go with the flow kind of person and like dining out to be an experience give the Lotus Pub a try! read more

Well first off, I'm a local Lotusian and grew up in the most beautiful town of Lotus. As a Chef who has eaten at numerous fine dining restaurants, I am going to let you all know that I'm not a big fan of stand up ordering. I do not like to look at a menu on a wall and have to decide what I want while people are anxiously waiting behind me while I try to make a decision. There were too many choices for that. I could have stood their for 15 minutes trying to decide. It made me have anxiety. Second you have to serve yourself water. For some reason that really irked me! Oh you want a tip? Sorry not happening if I have to serve myself. Third $20 for fish tacos? There is a taqueria down the street in Coloma that can satisfy that craving for 1/3 of the price. All this place has is overly priced sandwiches. I mean really really expensive sandwiches. I opted for the tomato bisque with grilled cheese. Horrible choice. It was suppose to be tomato but it was really just garlic soup with some tomato in it. I ate their last night and I still have garlic breathe and a weird metallic taste in my mouth. The soup was cold and my sandwich looked like it once had melty cheese but when I got my order the cheese had hardened. The cheese wasn't ooey gooey like I had hoped it would be. Very disappointing. Fourth, the wine was good and the pretzel and macaroni and cheese were delicious and the cheapest of the menu items. I thank the Godess that my sister and my niece ordered those items because my food was so gross I had to steal some of theirs! Fifth, the beer choices suck! Lotus Pub, suggestion, we have amazing local breweries, why do you not carry any of them? All the beers they had could be found at the Coloma gas station. I am deeply saddened that a great restaurant was replaced with a "Pub" that serves over priced food that is just meh. If you haven't checked out the lotus pub, do it! Such a cute little place! They have a selection of fancy sandwiches and tacos with one side for $22. Their sides are several potato options, soup, and salad. They have a few starters, such a soup and Mac and cheese. They have a beer and wine list. Their 'sandwich' selection consisted of a pork belly banhmi, a BLT, a steak sandwich, a meat shawarma, fish tacos, and a couple others I can't recall. Background: it was me (female), my husband, and our 2 year old who went for dinner at 6pm on a Saturday night) We got the pork belly banhmi with potato leek soup, the meat shawarma with salad, their special of the night which was crab, and their side Mac and cheese. And a bottle of the Sangiovese they had listed (can't remember the winery). The pork belly was BOMB! While I would suggest they cut some of the raw onions and/or sauté them maybe? As it was very overwhelming and I took 90% of them off. And choose a different, less bun, bun option, as It just really took from the flavor of the pork belly a bit. But still a fantastic sandwich! The soup that I ordered with it was pretty good. Could use less pepper, but again, another fantastic flavor! I can't speak for the shawarma because my husband was too full to eat it after he ate all the crab and his side salad. It looked delicious though! The crab, was cold and uncracked*, but still delicious! Neither of us had ever had cold crab but it didn't take away from the flavor which it did have, unlike some good seafood restaurants even have! *My husband swears he asked if it was pre-cracked. It wasn't. I think they must-understood what he was asking. I don't know who would pre-crack a crab. Lol The Mac and cheese we got for our daughter and while she wasn't a fan, I sure was! I don't normally like mac and cheese from restaurants, but this one is on point! Other than some VERY slight food modifications that I would only personally do, based on my own preferences, and that it's not too kid friendly (I mean, it IS a pub, so I can't really judge too harshly, but there isn't a kids menu, or kid cups, or straws to use in their plastic cups - if you're a prepared toddler parent, you'll be fine) it was an outstanding, beautiful place to eat. We really like this place! The food is good and it's better than the previous place for kids! We do have a couple suggestions to succeed! Have a bar tab so you can go to the bar and not the counter. And or- Get a waitress for the tables - it would make it so much smoother! Have some salad and veggie options and maybe bring some other items in- we get bored and love your cooking! read more

The Lotus Pub is unique, and COVID showed me how much I love this place. The food is amazing* and there is good beer on tap. Now for the asterisk: the place is small and they get stretched on any busy night. I've had food forgotten, and long waits are common on busy nights. It's a locals hangout. I recommend everyone passing through stop here if it's slow. If it's busy, have a beer or glass of wine at the bar, and come back for food on different night. read more

I love going to the Lotus Pub -- it has become our go to hangout for dinner or just drinks and sides. They have a wonderful selection of sandwiches that are both big in size and super delicious. I can't eat a full one so I just split it with someone and order a side. I always go with the fingerling potatoes, but also love the potato salad. A friend of mine swears by the bean salad. I think the kitchen closes at 8, but look it up. If there are folks hanging in the bar they may stay open past 9, but the kitchen will be closed. read more

Having just hosted a birthday dinner for 16 on a Wednesday night, I can say without hesitation that the Lotus Pub is AMAZING! All of us raved about our food, one of my girlfriends went on and on about the best white wine she'd had in forever. Great service, food came out fresh, hot & plentiful. I had the fish sandwich - better than anything seafood I had in LaJolla the previous weekend. Other favorites: the Bahn Mi, fish tacos, vegetarian roasted bell pepper wrap, the pretzel, the soup... The beers on tap are varied, ice cold and top notch, the wine list is superb (always was at Cafe Mahjaic,too). This isn't a fast food place - it's a place to CELEBRATE life and the wonderful people we share it with. I'll pay a little more for that quality of food and that ambiance. I am a well traveled foodie and I can honestly say I have never been treated this poorly in my life. I asked the waitress to check on our food after an hour and a half, and after the guy next to me that ordered at the same time had been gone for half an hour and after the 3 parties after us had gotten their food. I wanted to love it, but...I don't even think they should be calling themselves a pub. They only serve sandwiches (some hot) and a skimpy sides (like plain rice) for $18. Decent food, but ridiculously overpriced. And what pub doesn't have a basic burger and fries? This one. $8 for a pretzel and pickle? Seriously? No hard ciders either. The food I have had (tomato soup and lamb sandwich have both had overbearing garlic or onion aftertaste. I've been in 3 times. The first time at 7:45, but it took the staff 15 minutes to tell us they ran out of food and closed the kitchen. The other 2 times they also were out of some dishes, even at 6pm. And they don't bother to cross it off the chalk board menu. Order at the counter and they bring it to you. Inside is pretty noisy. Outside is ok, but right next to the parking lot. read more

Previously a fine dining establishment, we were dubious about going back as they morphed to a pub. But were surprised and delighted by the food, service and ambiance. It still has an old feel (the building was built in the late 1800s), is simply, but comfortably decorated, and cathedral food was fabulous! The is a foodies' delight! Hubby had a vegetarian pita sandwich with cream of asparagus bisque soup and I had a shredded lamb pita sandwich with warm 6-bean salad. The food was wonderful!!!! Really wonderful! It's so nice to get something different than the average fair offered everywhere else. They offer about 8 brews on tap; nothing to write home about but a decent selection. They also have a small but nice selection of wine. I was impressed to see a Viognier offered (it was lovely). And yes, the food here is more costly than a burger joint, but you get what you pay for. Everything is hand-made, including the bread and it tastes like it! We will definitely be going back to try the other menu items. Can't wait. read more
