Please tell me this place is new enough to still have growing pains. I want to believe in what can be. It has so many good things - and then a few painful issues. Great: pretzel buns! So many pretzel buns! Not great: I ordered my burger medium rare, it came out medium well (if not well). I just ate it anyway, no reason to send it back. Great: selection of beer. Not great: The beer came out coolish, not at all cold. The glasses definitely weren't cold, and the beer definitely isn't cold enough. It's good beer, but after 5 minutes it starts to become less good warm beer! Great: atmosphere Not great: Service. Took awhile to find our waiter sometimes. Or was it our waitress? See, when I don't have a good experience, it's not memorable, and that means I'm not going to rave about it going forward. But it's so easy to fix these things! Listen to customers, chill your beer more, and... spend more time listening to customers. You're right there at 4 or even 5 stars. Due to COVID restrictions, ordered the take out. Huge disappointment! For what I paid $$$, the food was terrible! Cold, even though I arrived within their time recommended. It was sitting on a table waiting! Meanwhile the food absorbed the chemicals from the styrofoam take out box that was also sitting in a plastic shopping bag. I think this place was just okay. My fiance ordered one of the specials- Nashville hot chicken- and it was basically just a chicken sandwich with hot sauce poured all over it (which btw made the buns soggy). I ordered the steak salad which was recommended by the waiter and the greens were soaking wet- either they had just been washed or they were old and getting soggy. I was hoping for a big piece of juicy steak but it was tiny, maybe like 2-3 oz of steak. French onion soup was pretty good. Not sure if I'll go back again. read more

I am from the area and normally I love everything about this place. Today, I went to lunch with my boyfriend. He ate half his sandwich and took the rest home. To my shock and horror, I looked at his leftovers and saw pink chicken in the middle. He ate half of this already. Just hoping he doesn't get sick. This is really upsetting and could cause illness. This used to be a great place to eat but lately it has gone downhill. My husband's meal came out 20 minutes AFTER the rest of us had finished eating. The burger was raw and the only thing on his plate. The fries, the waitress explained, would be out soon. They arrived 10 minutes later. The manager offered to take the undercooked burger off the bill. How generous! We don't have to pay for food that arrived late, raw, and inedible. What was supposed to be a pleasant lunch with our daughter turned into a series of errors left my husband walking out WITHOUT having eaten and still paying an $80 bill. Very disappointed. read more

Came here for some dinner and beer....first thing we get is our beer which was a little colder than room temperature,we also ordered the prime rib sandwich and a meatloaf dinner... both of the meat choices tasted similar to hospital food and the "prime rib" was actually roast beef (VERY low grade of roast beef at that)......very disappointed... The waitress we had was awesome..we told her about our meals and she said a manager would come talk to us about our meal, however the manager just sent our server with a apology and a gift card(I personally think the manager should have handled it rather than our server)...we'll give it another chance (especially since we have a gift card) and write a update read more

Two things you need to know about Brick Stone: 1. BEER. 2. The Behemoth. I knew about the first one, but the second was an amazing surprise that I was thrilled to try and put down. I'm pretty sure, however, to defeat either one you need to not have the other. Oh well. First let's talk about the beer: Because it is summer, and people like lighter summery beers (or at least I'm assuming people like that since it's all you can find all summer long...), I did not get the sampler because I didn't think I'd enjoy said light beers. AND the A.P.A. was out, so that was a soul crusher anyway. Instead, I got an Irish Red (decent...typical red) and an Oatmeal Stout (not super thick and creamy like I like it, but had good flavor). The beer was good. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was good. The food though? HELL YES. I ordered the Behemoth, knowing it was a big burger, but not really comprehending HOW big it was going to be. (Insert perverted comments here) It is a cheeseburger sandwiched between TWO grilled cheese sandwiches. It even comes with a steak knife stabbed in the middle which looks totally metal and commands everyone's attention as they try to see which morbidly obese American actually ordered something like that. Needless to say, I did NOT finish it (I almost did though! ALMOST!) but I blame it on the ridiculously delicious French Onion Soup and the beer I gulped down beforehand. *big sigh* ...food here is usually good. Not Chicago good...but good for Bourbonnais. The staff here are their own worst enemies. The first time I was here some moron cleaning dude walked into the women's bathroom without knocking and scared the heck out of my spouse. This time we were sat at a table that had not been wiped down and my forearms were sticky and crumby with the food goo from the last patron. Damn I want so much to like this place. Thai Nacho appetizer....omg ...like always is savory, sweet, curry spicy. I so wish I had stopped there. I think giving the option of soup served instead of fries is absolute genius. But someone please tell the chef to toss a small handful of raw chopped onions in the french onion soup before putting the croutons and cheese. That crunch texture is a sorely missing contrast with the soft croutons and soft onions. The grilled chicken with mushrooms and grilled onion was a little undercooked but good tastes. Gouda and peppadew peppers was a great idea. Both sandwiches were served on pretzel rolls which normally would have made me giggle, but these were just huge dry monstrosity. Ordered my burger well done and it was not crispy on the outside and pink on the inside. Wait service from Britt was efficient, friendly, and thank you Britt and to the other waitresses in our vicinity tonight for wearing appropriate shirts without plunging necklines. Usually here I get the old "boobs bending over in the direction of my face" routine with my wife sitting next to me. Which let me tell you, really limits the tip. After all, I am not showing you the top of my happy trail, am I? So back down to three stars for you Brickstone. Based on service alone, this restaurant deserves five stars. Our server, Brittany S, was fantastic. Despite not-so-lovely reviews, we decided to check this place out after a Bears Practice. We left the field at the end of practice, and still only had to wait about five minutes for a table. The menu is HUGE. We had a hard time deciding, but all ordered sandwiches, wraps and burgers. I had the French Onion soup to start. Very salty, but the perfect amount of cheese and crouton - not overwhelming! Without divulging all of the details, I'll just say that there was a problem with my food. I hesitated at saying anything, but did. I had planned to try to continue eating, but Brittany immediately said she didn't want me to, and that they'd make me a brand new plate. No hesitation, no rude undertone, nothing. I even got to choose if I wanted a different plate or not (which I did). I settled with a Chipotle Chicken Wrap, and it was great. Tasty, creamy ranch on the side, and piping hot french fries that were too fantastic for words. I washed everything down with a Cherry Ale, which was the perfect mix of not-too-sweet and not-too-hoppy. Everyone else enjoyed their food, and raved about the service. To top it off, not only did I get the option of a new plate, but was never charged - for either of them! And after I got home, multiple people had commented on my check-in on Facebook about how wonderful BrickStone was. Not sure about the negativity - I certainly didn't experience it! read more

Brickstone is kind of a mixed bag. A lot of style but little substance. Although it is independently owned, it mirrors a lot of franchise type microbreweries such as Rock Bottom. The inside is very tastefully done with a bar area, a dining area, an outside patio area and a private party room in the back. Came here on a Tuesday night and place was fairly active and noisy. We choose to sit outside as it was a beautiful early summer evening on the prairie. We ordered drinks and appetizers first. I ordered the Forbidden Promise IPA and my companions ordered a Mango Martini and a Pomegrant Martini. The martini's were pronounced pretty standard although the Pomegrant Martini is loaded with anti-oxidants to retard any aging effects the alcohol in the Martini may have. I didn't care for the Forbidden Promise IPA, just didn't appeal to me. too flat and hoppy for me. For appetizers we had spinach ragoons and lettuce wraps. Now the lettuce wraps were great, cooked chopped chicken nuggets with lettuce, shredded carrots, chow mein noodles, and green pepper served with a tai peanut sauce, sweet red pepper sauce and a sesame ginger sauce. I could have made a meal of it in itself. I didn't think the spinach ragoons were anything special but my two companions claimed to have liked it. It was kind of like a spinach-cheese pot sticker served with a custard sauce. Couldn't help but notice that there were still two left when the main meal came. I had the Buffalo Blues salad which was ok. Salad was nice and fresh and there were generous amounts of bleu cheese and dressing. But the buffalo chicken strips were kind of dry and tough. One of my companions had the Atlantic Salmon and she thought it was somewhat tasteless, the other companion who ordered the Pecan Crusted Chicken likewise thought the meal was tasteless, and while she loves sweet potatoes, she thought the sweet potato side was awful. Meal was saved with dessert, the Chocolate Sensation cake was almost unbeleivably rich and delicious. Well worth the price. The meal for three people wa about $95.00 plus tip. In summary, the place is nice to look at and has a lot of style. But the food appears to be just for show, not eating. read more

Its loud, not sure why the dynamics of the place make it this way. My beer was excellent and hubby liked his too. We had the Thai Chicken Nachos and decided to head out after 3 beers and nachos. They were just ok. Not bad, not great but not drawing enough to earn our dinner meals. The meat on the nachos was really strange in texture. I think dark thigh meat. The menu is tooooooo big. Robert Irvine would have a hay day here. I dont know how they can "specialize" in anything as the menu is ALL over the place. The wonton nachos came out no more than 5 min after we ordered them. Ridiculous fast! Go for the beer, have an appetizer, call Robert Irvine from Restaurant Impossible. Maybe they can assist them with the menu! Coming from someone who grew up in a small town, it's something I think is taken for granted at times. What's great too is when you're not up for a beer from Brickstone, there are other taps like Revolution, another Chicago favorite. With the food, however: I wish there was a push to bring in local, fresh ingredients. It's a trend worth following for sure! read more

Stopped by Brickstone while in town. Had heard good things and was eager to try their craft beer. The appearance is beautiful and rustic, there's even a beer still on display. They didn't have all of their advertised beers which was a shame. But the one that was available tasted delicious. For an appetizer we had the buffalo chicken rolls which were fantastic. The french fries here have got to be some of the best in the world, not even exaggerating. But their burgers are subpar. I suppose the only negative aspect was the service. Our waiter took a long time to take our order... then came back to confirm the order because he couldn't read his own handwriting. Then afterwards hardly came by at all. We weren't very upset since we were mostly chatting the entire time but if someone was there just for a meal it might be a little frustrating. I would definitely come back to try their many other dishes and beer. read more

I've decided to update my review since it was over a year ago that I left the previous review. This is a wonderful locally owned brewery and restaurant. Tonight I got the Cherry Bomb which is listed as a fruit ale. It was outstanding! The description in the menu does a good job of letting you know what you are going to get, and yet still sells it short. Wonderful taste, little after taste so that you could enjoy another selection without any lingering on your tongue. Good opening act. I got the Fire-grilled pork chops as my entree.....wow! 2 7-ounce chops grilled to perfection. I got mashed potatoes as my side and it came with a vegetable medley (squash, peppers, onions), and soup or salad. I chose the salad with ranch dressing.....the only weak spot in the fabulous dinner. I ordered another beer selection the Golden Promise: a 7.25% imperial red which just finished the deal. Wonderful!! Total before tax and tip: $22.99 ($3.00 pint night) a great dinner and drinks for what I considered a great price! Can't wait until next Monday!! read more

This place is a diamond in the rough. Not much originality going on in bourbonnais dining. Not to mention if craft beer is your thing there is nothing for you in this town. Brickstone changes this. Great food with much variety. The seared ahi sandwich is not something you would find in a small country town and it tastes great. Their home brewed beer variety is always changing (though they are good about keeping a standard 4 or 5 on hand all season) and never disappoint. And if you're gonna be picky they have a goo selection of well known craft bottles and even a few on draft. I live in Chicago and would gladly travel the 50 miles to attend a tapping or even for a Friday night out. read more
