This was my first time ever going to Bricktops ever. It definitely is in the right place by Frontenac mall and the interior of the restaurant is a beautiful place. I saw the layered Cobb salad on Instagram and had to try it! Let me start by saying this relatively simple menu is pretty pricey so this is not somewhere I will visit frequently. $18 for a Cobb salad does not make sense in the world of a person who likes to cook, but I figured it had to be spectacular right? I started with another Instagram-worthy appetizer, the billionaire bacon and deviled eggs app. This $10 appetizer would probably make anyone's grandma sit up in her grave for paying 10 bucks for simple deviled eggs and 3 strips of bacon but I will say it was 6 deviled eggs and 3 strips of bacon and as the least expensive app on the menu, it was worth it. The billionaire's bacon was just glazed with a slightly sweet glaze and it was pretty crispy so if you like your bacon extra crispy, this is definitely for you! The deviled eggs were good, I enjoyed them. Aside from the fancy piped filling which anyone could replicate at home, these were just deviled eggs. Not anything extraordinary or memorable. But hey it makes a great photo and it is tasty! The salad was beautiful when it came out, plated so pretty. Grilled chicken was warm and grilled perfectly, more crispy bacon that was good and flavorful, clean cold and crisp lettuce, tomatoes, Bleu cheese, avocado and egg all rounded out this layered salad. The salad dressing wasn't much to write home about, mostly oil with little seasoning and little acid, for an $18 salad I expected more. The service was good, server was nice and friendly, plenty of appropriate table touches so that was fine- not spectacular. I never got a water refill and would have enjoyed a second piece of bread with my salad, but hey I guess that is too much to ask for a $30 lunch. I was scared to look at the dessert menu- they might have had something different on there I would have enjoyed for probably $10 plus. Or let me guess- more boring American cuisine typical dessert offerings- a chocolate cake, creme brûlée, some pie or cobbler offering, and maybe a non dairy sorbet....I'm yawning even thinking about it. I was invited out to Bricktop for brunch on Father's Day. We had reservations therefore, there was no wait when we arrived and was immediately seated on the patio. Having recently moved to Saint Louis, this is one of the more nicer establishments I've eaten at. Despite being invited to brunch, we were given a dinner menu to order from. Beverages - The coffee was perfect, nice full-body flavor but not jet fuel. One of the best drip coffees I've had at a restaurant. My friend raved about their orange juice, stating that she swore that it was hand squeezed; however, today, she was unable to finish her juice stating that it tasted like it was adulterated with Tropicana. Spinach and artichoke dip ($12) - The chips served with the dip were the thin kind, perfectly salted, and had a nice crunch. Although there was nothing extraordinary about the dip, it did not disappoint in that it was your plain 'run of the mill' spinach/artichoke dip. I would not get these again. Fried calamari ($16) - The calamari was breaded and fried to perfection. The squid was tender, not chewy, and was served with a side of garlic aioli and marinara sauce. Of the two, I preferred the garlic aioli; however, did not thoroughly enjoy either of the sauces. My friend and I both ate the calamari plain. 16oz Ribeye ($38) - I ordered my ribeye medium-rare and substituted the twice baked potato with mixed sauteed vegetables. The steak was cooked beautifully and was dressed with #1855 maitre d' hotel butter sauce, a compound butter made with parsley, lemon juice, salt and pepper. I thought it was slightly over salted. The stir-fried vegetables were delicious and had a hint of ginger. I saw other people's plates come out with a gigantic loaded baked potato and immediately regretted my decision to substitute this side item. Steak Frites ($28) - My friend said this was her go-to at Brick Top. She ordered it sans béarnaise sauce, stating that it was too sweet. While the dish traditionally comes with french fries, she substituted it with creamy whipped potatoes and sauteed broccolini. The only tried the broccolini, which was al dente and seasons perfectly. Chocolate chip cookie ($10) - I usually don't save room for desert; however, was informed that the chocolate chip cookie was a good dessert. It came out in its own skillet with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with caramel sauce. Again, nothing special, and your typical cookie and ice cream dessert. Service: Wait staff was attentive to our needs and courteous. Overall, we have great service and the food was above average and well prepared well. We spent a total of 4 hours there and never felt rushed while taking our time eating appetizers and ordering our main meal. read more

I love Bricktops! It is the perfect place to go when in the Frontenac area for lunch or dinner. This tends to be my lunch spot when I'm headed to plaza frontenac and it never disappoints. First, their french dip is excellent. It is a prime tenderloin and absolutely delicious with their shoestring fries. While I like it as it, people in my group have ordered it "well done" and they delivered on that. They always have a sushi special which I never tried until this week. I just didnt believe sushi would be great at an American fare restaurant and the price point was a little high to take that risk (~$20). I tried the yum yum roll and it was absolutely fantastic! Honestly, some of the best sushi I have had in STL. So, whether you are in the mood for great american fare (deviled eggs, salads, sandwiches, and more) or sushi it is worth checking out. Back in March I was shopping for suits in the area before my July wedding and had the pleasure of popping in to try a place that was not in STL when I lived there. The inside ambiance was not what I expected from the outside; in a good way! The decor and layout of the restaurant was neat and extremely clean. The service was great and although a tad pricey nothing out of the ordinary. I ordered a rather simplistic meal but it was cooked to perfection and was quite amazing. The 3 star is because the staff were just amazing and I wish I could give them a 5. Very quick and friendly. The food was my hang up. For the price and ambiance, I expected a lot more. I chose the sea bass and it just did not do it for me. If I see sea bass on any menu, I have to get it. It's actually in my top 5 favorite fish. This one was cooked perfectly minus the fact it lacked seasoning. At this price point (which I believe the plate was between 30-40 bucks), I should not have to add salt when I get my dish. I will give this restaurant a second shot and update my review accordingly. Maybe it was just the day and that specific dish. read more

Wanted a semi-fancy dinner without much of a wait last night so we tried BrickTop's for the first time. Had a little snafu with reservations (opentable doesn't have it listed directly from the app but you can get to it from the bricktops website) so we just walked in. We were quoted a 30 - 40 min wait, went out to the car, figured out the opentable situation, and made reservations for 5 min later. I never really understand this, when restaurants have online reservations available but give you a longer wait in person, but I imagine there is a reason so I'm not going to ding them for that. The restaurant is very attractive, well decorated, and excellent lighting for some nice photos of you and your dining companions. It was very loud so not great if you want to talk. I ordered a very expensive mocktail that was basically just fresh-squeezed juice. This was a fail. If I am going to pay top dollar for a mocktail, it needs to be something complex and special. On the plus side, the juice was very fresh and yummy, We ordered the artichoke appetizer which was fantastic. 3 big grilled artichoke halves with aioli, but they also brough clarified butter on request. For dinner we had strip steak, filet, chicken milanese, and an order of the shagri-la sushi. Steaks were big, well cooked, and overall yummy. The loaded potatoes were very large so the toppings didn't quite make it through the whole potato. Chicken milanese with fettucini was nice but very one-dimensional with an overwhelming flavor of butter from the beurre blanc. The parmesan and capers were not noticeable at all. It felt like a kids-meal dish. The sushi was a bummer, but partly our fault. My daughter likes california rolls because she doesn't really like fish too much. She can handle "krab" with a k but not much else. Most people who like sushi also like fish, so it's hard to review this based on her taste. The biggest issue was that the Krab (maybe real crab) was blended into the cream cheese and it was a very heavy portion of crab that ended up making the filling much more fishy than you would usually get from a california roll. We knew the rolls would be topped with shrimp, salmon, and tuna, but we thought those would be whole pieces that could be picked off (and eaten by me), but they were very finely minced and really impossible to remove. The shrimp was incredibly fishy and tasted old and rubbery. It was just way too much fishiness for her to handle so we only ate 2 pieces and abandoned the rest. I like sushi and even I struggled with the heavy fishiness of this sushi. Service was odd. Our interactions with our server were awkward, she struggled with answering some questions (like salad dressing options), she didn't offer bread until after we had our apps/salads, struggled to keep up with refills for my heavy-tea-drinking husband, and just overall didn't seem smooth or confident. Our food made it out but she was just not the best. We would go back 100% for the artichokes if nothing else. I feel like BrickTops has a really nice appetizer list that would make it great for happy hour of more of a tapas kind of meal. read more

Just want to add that we got takeout last night from BrickTop's. They have the best takeout I have had in St. Louis. Everything was delicious and packaged nicely. Sometimes I feel that takeout isn't the best because you are not eating in the restaurant but I will say that this restaurant takeout looks just like it would have you had ordered in the restaurant. We had grilled artichokes (excellent), goat cheese and beet salad (excellent), Chicken Milanese (excellent) and a burger with fries that was very good according to the person who ate it. Upon arrival we were told the only available seating was OUTSIDE,,,,,on a sweltering St Louis evening! No mention was made of outside seating when the reservation was made, nor was seating offered inside without a 45 minute to one hour wait beyond the time of our confirmed reservation!. This place is a gem ! If you are looking for great service, awesome food and a place that won't break the bank you will love Brick Top. We have been here three times now, 1st time during early COVID, we ordered to go, deviled eggs, chicken piccata, million dollar bacon. It was so good. The next time we dined in and ordered prime rib it wAs so good, and me and my wife split an order and the waiter was kind enough to put it on two plates and included full sides for each of us (and did not charge us extra ) The last time we came, we brought a guest, did calamari for appetizer (good flavor and a surprise with some fried peppercini mixed into the batter) and then got cowboy ribeyes and a prime rib again. You really can go wrong for ordering steak here the sides are all excellent, we especially liked the spinach and whole baked potato. I took my daughter here for a mommy, daughter brunch as well as to celebrate her 21st bday before she hung out with her friends later that night. We asked for outdoor seating as it was a perfect day to sit on the patio. The ambiance was very relaxed. The tables were spaced out enough so that you didn't feel like you were on top on one another. We were greeted warmly from the hostess and received excellent service from our waitress. The only negative thing I would say is I had to remind the waitress to check my daughters ID because she was eager to prove she was old enough for the margarita she ordered. She ordered the charred grapefruit and I had the prickly pear margarita which was divine. It was just the right amount of alcohol for early afternoon. Our appetizer was the grilled artichokes with a heavenly rich sauce. Our waitress gave us a platter with two warm wet towels to clean our hands afterwards. I had a Cobb salad and the pan seared rainbow trout. My daughter had the Palm Beach Salad. Eyes are deceiving as this was plenty of food. We had trouble trying to finish it all. Everything tasted great. Be careful because the sauces will get you in trouble as they are pretty rich in cream and flavor. We tried leaving without getting desert but the waitress was so nice as to buy my daughter a dessert for her birthday. She was really nice and even talked about and reminisced about her children at that age. My daughter ordered the Chocolate Chip which was a warm homemade chocolate chip cookie in its own skillet with vanilla ice cream on top with caramel sauce drizzled. It was dangerous and was just enough to share because it was pretty rich in flavor as well. You could taste that it was homemade. I will definitely patronize this establishment again. People love this place, but I just don't get it. It is always so loud and crowded and dimly lit in the dining room. The bar isn't much better. The patio is nice unless it's full and then it's really loud. The food and drink are pricey, and I don't think there's a huge selection on the menu. I'm really unimpressed. I have a difficult time finding something to eat because I think it's overpriced and there's nothing in dying to eat. I think the service here is pretty mediocre too. I've been here a bunch (other people choose it), and it's never been spectacular food or service. I know that you can do better all around somewhere else. read more

It's not a barbecue joint but we love their ribs. We split them and it's still plenty for two. The grilled artichokes were amazing and totally worth your time. I placed a pickup order for the Palm Beach salad. The online price was $20. When I picked up the order the charge was $30. with tax. I questioned why the increase in cost, $8. The employee stated after the 4 pm, the prices go up. I asked if the portion was bigger and the answer was "no". This is ridiculous. Same item cost 8$ more because it was ordered after 4 PM. I will order from Bricktop any more. This was not listed on the website. I work in a hospital and we do not charge more if you come to the ER and need a test/procedure in the middle of the night. The pasty shell was flaky and buttery and the steak was fork tender , perfect medium rare , and the side ( Demi sauce I wanna say? ) was aromatic and rich The halibut was also wonderful . This was a new spot for me as I didn't think they had much I could eat (keto). I ordered the Bistro Chicken to go and substituted broccolini for the potatoes so I had a healthy helping of spinach and broccolini with two breasts of chicken. They were seasoned but not over done as stated in other reviews. They packaged it all in a nice tight Tupperware container. I used the drive up-pickup service and they were prompt to deliver. We have been going to Bricktops for years. We have a family tradition of taking our grandkids there after Christmas. Today there were 6 of us. The service was an issue from the get go. I realize everyone is short handed these days. However, our server, Matt, was inattentive the entire time we were there. Had to beg for water. Didn't take our appetizer order for 20 min. It took even longer for our entrees. It took almost an hour and 45 min to have lunch. Trying to pay the bill was ridiculous. We waited and waited for him to process our credit card. What's really frustrating is that they charge an automatic 18 % gratuity for 6 people. For what we spent on lunch for 6 people, the service should have at least been satisfactory. It was extremely disappointing to where I might decide to take my business elsewhere in the future. read more
