I want to give this place 3.5 stars, but since that's not an option and I think the overall rating of 4.5 is very misleading, I'm going with 3. I've been here twice, and overall I really appreciate what they're trying to do here. It's a nicer, upscale type of place in greater Lansing where many places like that don't exist. However, they're missing the mark just a little bit on everything. On the small plate list I've had the flatbread (flavorless, my husband and I thought we'd had better frozen pizza) and garlic fries (aioli is good, but the tomato sauce was buried at the bottom and the fries themselves were subpar). I've had the tacos (delish! But they could have used a second corn tortilla because they were very saucey and the torillas were overcooked and hard) and the ravioli (no complaints here!!). My husband liked his food both times (ragout and salmon). Finally, we got dessert the first time and the apple pie was grosssss. My mom makes better, Kroger makes better. And I've had better homemade ice cream by a friend. Again, I really appreciate what they're trying to do. I'll probably come back sometime in the summer when the door isn't letting in frigid breezes every time it opens. But next time I want something nice in the area, I'll hit up Soup Spoon. read more

We had dinner here tonight as part of a group of eleven. Our waiter, Roger, was very attentive and enthusiastic about what this restaurant had to offer. The portions are huge, so unless you are a teenage boy or a pro athlete, it will probably be too much for you. Besides taking your left overs home, you can share with your sweetie. If you are part of a group your food can be served family style if you like. One of my friends split a salad with her mother. It was the prettiest salad I ever saw. The DH and I had the butternut squash bisque which tasted like pumpkin pie but a little spicier and not as sweet. The roasted brussel sprouts were the best Brussel sprouts I ever had. Roasting them removes all of the bitterness. A touch of pomegranate adds a hint of sweetness. Our entree was the meatloaf with the BBQ gravy and mashed potatoes. I would have been happier if the gravy were a little less spicy. I had wanted the lobster ravioli, but the chef did not like the way the pasta turned out and refused to serve it. Initially I was disappointed but realized that this verified that they make the food themselves and maintain standards. I found a couple of chunks of potato in my mash which verified that it did not come out of a box. The only complaint I have is that the restaurant is not well marked. We missed it even with a GPS, so we had to swing back around. When the GPS said it was 300 feet away, we parked and walked the rest of the way. It was only when we were on foot that we were able to see the sign that was typed script on the edge of the awning. Impossible to see from the car on the road. Since the menu is seasonal, we are looking forward to eating there again when the menu changes. read more

Bridge Street Social Bridge Street Social is a Bistro style restaurant located in downtown Dewitt, part of the greater Lansing Area. Owner Justin King is a certified sommelier, and is in partnership with Mike Luther. They feature an extensive wine selection, a limited menu of craft beers, unique cocktails and a menu of shared plates and entrees. The venue is an updated very old building which both is hip and comfortable. The staff is extremely nice, very attentive and very well informed on food and wine pairings. The cocktails that we tried were balanced and delicious. I have been there several times so have sampled a variety of both food and drink. The food ranges from very tasty to very bland. The meatloaf and burger dishes are the most popular and are very flavorful. We tried a quesadilla and a soft fish taco that both would have benefited from more herbs and spice. Desserts are good, but not necessarily memorable. They also host Wine Tasting/ Food pairings regularly, with the proprietor of the vineyard featured present. These events are very enjoyable, but again some of the food pairings could use more flavor. Overall, my friends and I really enjoy spending time at Bridge Street Social, our only suggestion is to continue working on the menu. read more

My boyfriend and I dined at Bridge Street Social for our anniversary this year and we enjoyed our experience. I would recommend making a reservation early as they were pretty booked up and we only saw one walk in get seated while we were dining. For starters, the drink menu/wine list is HUGE. It was hard to pick something with so many options but I landed on a glass of wine and my boyfriend got a cocktail. We ordered roasted cauliflower, chips and queso, and soup with lump crab as appetizers and thought the portions were large enough to share. The sauce on the cauliflower was unique, but unfortunately we didn't love it. On the other hand, we thought the queso was delicious and enjoyed the green and red salsa marinated meat that came on top. We also thought the soup had great flavor despite being a little spicy. For our meals, I ordered the filet and my boyfriend ordered the meatloaf. My steak was cooked perfectly to the temperature I ordered and the meatloaf was had amazing flavor. We didn't save room for dessert, but thought the dessert menu was enticing. We'll probably be back another time to try the ravioli (That is what I really wanted to try but they were sold out!) and menu items. read more

I was so very excited to come here. The menu choices looked delicious and the promise of 200 wines to choose from made my heart pitter patter. I would classify myself as a foodie, and love wine to boot. My spouse, not so much, but the idea of smoked meatloaf was enough for him. We made reservations per the restaurant's recommendation and arrived on time at 6pm on a Wednesday and were seated promptly. There were not many people there but by 7, the restaurant was mostly full. We looked at the wine menu, and I selected a glass of Zinfandel immediately- which by the way, was delicious. My husband (who is NOT a wine drinker and found the wine menu so overwhelming ) ultimately ordered a margarita. The person who buys the wine was our server (maybe the owner?) and he rolled his eyes at us (yes, no lie) and told my hubby he couldn't salt the rim. Not a problem for us. The appetizer (burrata) was absolutely delicious and my husband was very pleased with the meatloaf. I had the seasonal pasta with shrimp and it was spicy and served piping hot. Why two stars? It was clear that we didn't "belong", from the eye roll to the lack of attention after. Literally. Our server brought us our meal and never came back except to give us our bill. I saw him pour multiple glasses of wine to other people as well as discuss bottles for other tables. I told him when he brought our meal that I would like another glass of wine but he never came back. We would have asked about dessert but it was clear that we were not welcome so we asked for the check (which also sat on the counter for awhile) and left. I should have read the Yelp reviews more carefully as this complaint is not a new one. Bottom line, the food was awesome but not worth the treatment we received. read more

Girls night, date night, any kind of night will be SO much better if you end it at Bridge Street Social. I've been here numerous times with my girlfriends and it's always perfection. The service is phenomenal, the food is even better and the wine list is amazing. I've tried literally everything on the menu and loved it all. I always take recommendations for wine pairings from our server because I feel like he knows what he's talking about and isn't just interested in trying to sell me a specific type of wine. The interior is beautiful and cozy and feels more upscale than a typical restaurant but isn't too stuffy/formal. We just happened to select the Bridge Street Social Restaurant for our evening meal from a list provided by our hotel. It is an intimate location with bar seating along with 10 or 15 tables. There is a second room that we did not see that has additional seating. We were greeted and served by Joe, who I suspect is the owner. They specialize in wine but serve other beverages. Their menu is limited, but it has sufficient options to meet most any customers wants. The try to locally source the ingredients and the menu is changed to the season. Their wine list is excellent. I had the house Pinot Noir which was exactly the type of wine I wanted after a brief discussion with Joe about my tastes. My wife had a local craft beer that she enjoyed. We both ordered the Brisket Meatloaf. It was outstanding. All of the staff was helpful and pleasant. First off, the moment we walked in we were greeted by Joe. He sat us down. At his first introduction we felt right at home. Joe felt like someone we'd want to be friends with. He broke down the sharing plates and entree menu for us and added his authentic and genuine thoughts towards every plate offered. Which were all highly positive. This place is excellent! From great food to friendly staff, you feel right at home the instant you walk through the door. My boyfriend and I tried the daily special, some sort of cheese/scallop dip (highly recommend if it is offered), the meatloaf, and mushroom Bolognese. Both of our dishes left us stuffed. Bridge Street is either a great experience or a slightly better than average experience... and it all boils down to which staff you're lucky enough to get. The great staff earn 5 stars and the "slightly better than average" staff earn 2-3 stars. When it's been great, it's been incredible. We are locals and normally sit at the bar, although when we are with a few other couples, we've sat at tables. The last time we were there, the bartender was mixing up concoctions and giving us sips, and when he found out it was our anniversary, he gave us all a glass of champagne to celebrate with. We had a fantastic experience. The previous time, the guy behind the bar (who is typically a server) struggled to make a drink in less than five minutes. Seriously, he had four drinks to make and it took almost 20 minutes to make them... the whole time we're sitting there with empty drinks waiting for him to finish so he can take our order. The food is seasonal and the flavors are out-of-this-world. Even simple things, like the hamburgers (one of the best around), are spruced up with short ribs and brisket. The brussel sprouts are amazing, as are the salads. You can get filled up on entrees or appetizer plates and walk away satiated. The prices are pretty good, with most entrees being $16-20. Justin, one of the owners, is a sommelier, and they have a great wine selection served by the glass or bottle. I do wish their bourbon selection was more extensive. Roger was an excellent waiter and shared wonderful insights on the meals and wine. Everything our table of 5 had was amazing. We started with the charcuterie board and pimento cheese/focaccia. For the main, the bolognese was some of the best pasta sauce I have had with fresh garlic and a rich red wine flavor. The special, the lamb chops with polenta and a blueberry-horseradish glaze, was so unique and delicious! Consistently amazing. From the wine selection and the concierge service, to the pairings... this place always impresses. Honestly the Best in the Greater Lansing area. We had a great pre-Valentine's Day dinner. I highly recommend the brussel sprouts - they are the best I've ever had - and the filet. The bartender brought us a special herbal infusion for the filets. She also shared with us a special amaro and we had some delightful desserts. My only suggestion would be to wear a jacket or take an extra sweater because in the winter it is drafty. Also, go early otherwise they might be out of the special (we wanted the seasonal ravioli with filet but it was sold out). As always, BSS does it right. Superb food and service. read more

I've been there a couple times, upon recommendation of a client who lives in Dewitt. I'm not local to Lansing, but work here a few days a week so this was a great find since I wouldn't typically be in the northern suburbs of Lansing. The food is awesome. So good. Everyone I've convinced to go with me has also loved the food. Wine list by the glass is super extensive and they make very good recommendations. I told two different waiters what I like in wines and they have suggested wines I really enjoyed. The food presentation is beautiful too. Because the menu is seasonal, I'm sad to say goodbye to some favorites but looking forward to the fall menu. I already miss the roasted cauliflower tacos and the vegetable empanadas. The A/C was cranked high this summer but it was a weird weather summer. We had one odd interaction / short conversation with one of the waiters one recent night at the end of the meal, but I don't think he meant to be impolite. The next time I saw him, he was very nice. Very charming place. Clearly it's a wine place as they have over 10 pages of wine selection , huge. Easy to get to, easy parking in a small town. Beer selection is very IPA heavy. Even the red Ale tasted like an IPA. Like I stated it's a wine place not a beer place. Food is exceptionally quick and very interesting. Loved the dishes. There is one problem and that problem is quite big. Being in the USA for over 30 years this is the first place where I found beef (steak) tartare. I grew up in a country where this dish is very common. I believe the person who created this dish atv this restaurant was taking his / her inspiration from tuna tartare. Tuna tartare many times has small cubes sushi grade tuna fish. Steak tartare is not tuna! You must grind the meet multiple times before presenting it to the customer! Humans teeth are not designed to chew on raw un- ground steak. You're must grind the meat no matter how good that steak quality is ,... your grind and grind it till it paste consistency and then you present it to the customer with many different spices e.g salt, pepper, Worcester sauce, diced union, garlic etc etc. and it is the customer's job to mix the meat with the spices for his or her taste- spread-it on toasted home made bread. that is steak a.k.a. beef tartare. read more

This place turned out to be a happy surprise. We stopped in DeWitt on our way north to Harbor Springs. We were staying fairly close by and the reviews appeared good. When we went in, it was clear that it was a very popular place. There was an obvious emphasis on wine with some interesting choices on the menu. Because we were driving, we could not dig deep into the wine choices. My spouse chose a Pinot Grigio from the Collio wine region of northeast Italy (Friuli-Venezia Giulia). I was intrigued with a Spanish Basque Country Rose having just read a review of one in Wine Spectator. They were both delicious. The menu was divided into essentially starters and entrees. We shared the carrot hummus with lamb merguez - spicy, but excellent - as our starter. My spouse chose the pork chops. They were accompanied by a lovely sauce and puréed sweet potatoes. This was an outstanding dish. I ordered a Meyer lemon pasta with ricotta and parmesan. I chose the optional bay scallops to go with them and it came with an arugula salad. The arugula salad was nice and fresh, not the most peppery we have had but certainly good. The pasta was very rich and i had trouble finishing it, not because it wasn't outstanding, but rather because I was full. The ambiance can only be described as boisterous. There were obviously a large number of regulars in attendance. And the staff was joyful and working their respective butts off. Our server (who also seated us even though we had no reservations) was Joe. He was very knowledgeable about the wines and about the menu. He was fun and able to joke around despite how busy he obviously was. So the bottom line is pretty easy - if we find ourselves in or even close to DeWitt again, without a doubt, we would come back to this place for dinner. read more

WOW! Dewitt needed this! Terrific menu, tap line and wine selection. Best restaurant in town and only a week old. Fillet was perfect and salmon delicious. Chorizo olive pizza was cold but those are the rough edges that I am sure will be ironed out in short order. Looking forward to trying the grilled asparagus and broccoli social plates. Dinner this evening was somewhat of a let down. Everything was good, but missed the mark in some way for each item ordered. The service was excellent though. We started with the Lobster Thyme Arancini...the lobster was there, barely, but with the fontina taleggio fondu (mac 'n' cheese sauce)...there really was no lobster flavor. It was detectable only by the change in texture. They were good, but tasted more like deep fried mac 'n' cheese balls. I had the Bistro Filet with coffee spice rub, mushroom and ancho sauce with potato gratin. Filet is the only cut I ever get, it's my favorite. I've even made whole beef tenderloin for 25 people - I know this cut of beef. Now, it had great flavor, but it was the grainiest, tough filet I have ever had. I didn't send it back, but I did let them know. I would have expected at least acknowledgement from the manager/owner, but no. I also counted only 2 mushroom slices in the ancho sauce. I would have enjoyed a few more.The potatoes were good, fine, but a huge portion. My son hoovered the leftovers. My son had the Short Rib Ragu with ricotta gnocchi. It too was good. The proportion was off. Not nearly enough meat for the large portion of gnocchi. So, again just a little off. We decided to split a dessert. It was a chocolate chip cookie with salted caramel ice cream. This too was good, but something was a little off. It tasted as if there was too much flour. It also would have been improved by serving the cookie warm. Also, if you are looking for a sweet dessert, this is not what you are looking for. I did like that this was not super sweet and rich. I'm not saying I wouldn't go back. I'd try it again but would not order any of the dishes we tried this evening. As far as the ambience - it was nice, warm, and cozy. Staff was pleasant, and our server was attentive and on the ball. I liked that they have seeting options to be in the bar area, and then a smallish quiet side. Just a nice option. I know they seem to have a bigger focus on wine, obscure beers/ales/stouts, and so on...the selection is incredible. The pairing suggestions are cool. I am not much of a drinker so for me this is not a big draw. For those into that, it's cool. So, I would say my rating is about a 3. Everything had good flavor, just not what I thought I was heyting, and paying for. I am excited to have another option right down town. I love going to Bridge Street Social! The food is always delicious! The menu changes seasonally. The meals are appropriately sized. The drinks are fabulous. My favorite has become "The Last Word." The wait staff are highly qualified sommeliers and nice guys too. Perfect cozy spots for a special occasion. Belly up to the bar for an appetizer and a drink for a quick social time. Like one of the other reviewers, we were looking for someplace outside of the Lansing/EL/Okemos/Williamston restaurants. BSS is a nice little place off the beaten path in downtown Dewitt. Really liked the way the restaurant was styled. Comfortable, trendy, shabby chic furnishings. Some bench seating, bar seating, and some tables. Menus and wine list were also simple but nice looking. All the staff was really nice and our waiter was really good. The right amount of attentive without being intrusive or awkward. Wine list was really good with a really wide selection. It was nice to see how it was organized into color, complexity, etc. Beer list was also good. Only had a few beers on tap, but they were good local craft beers. The menu was really good with the right amount of selection without being overwhelmingly large. We had the white bean and feta appetizer, and the filet and the mahi mahi entrees. Presentation of the appetizer was really nice and simple. The filet was cooked wonderfully, but the mahi was slightly overcooked. Everything we had was good, but not particularly great or memorable. If I were to give any critical feedback, I think some of the recipes and flavors (from the dishes we had) need to be tweaked a bit - in some cases to simplify while others to add complexity, but I don't think it's anything major. I'd look forward to coming back as the recipes are adjusted over time, as well as try other dishes. read more
