I'd been to Bridget Foy's several times and thought I had reviewed the restaurant. I was surprised to see I hadn't. In a way, I'm glad I had the opportunity to get to know this legendary restaurant in Philadelphia's Headhouse Square before I reviewed it. Bridget Foy's reopened in 2020 after a fire had devastated the restaurant - it had been called East Philly Cafe, opened by Bridget's parents in 1984. I've had several dishes - but most often either the Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich or the burger. Every time, they've been excellent. I started with the New Jersey Tomato Soup-I've been recently ordering soups off menus. This soup was not your 'Mama's tomato soup'! The first taste had my 'eyes wide open'. It had a bright, fresh, tangy tomatoey taste! It came with a few sprigs of dill on top - I stirred it in - what an intriguing taste it gave the soup. It also had an interesting warm aftertaste-I asked my server and he said there's a touch of sriracha sauce. It was a uniquely delicious soup! Today, I was in the mood for the chicken sandwich - so I ordered it with French Fries. The Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich is one of the best in the city. It's perfectly fried - the coating is so delicious and crispy. But once you bite into that juicy breast you're transported to 'chicken heaven'. I didn't ask, but the chicken must be in a brine overnight to be that juicy! It usually comes with spicy buffalo sauce, but I can't eat spice so I opted out. The thin layer of pickled relish with ranch dressing was the perfect sauce - it was an amazing sandwich! I would have not have added to the order as it was a lot of food - but I saw Charleston Shrimp and Grits on the menu, and I have a weakness for shrimp and grits,and had to try it. My first bite into a shrimp with a nice scoop of grits was 'mouth numbing'- I couldn't believe how tender and succulent the shrimp was! ....and the creamy, tomatoey grits were 'ridiculous' - yes, they were that good! I was surprised how large the shrimp were, yet had retained a tender, juicy taste. I may have had better Shrimp and Grits, but I can't remember when. I do want to point out, I asked my server (Conrad) who went out of his way to accommodate my request, to hold the chili and paprika spices. He said he would, but the chef came out and said he'd have to 'create' a new dish without the spice but it would still have the same creamy tomato base. I was impressed, and it was a very memorable dish. Of course, I took home half my sandwich and some of the Shrimp and Grits, as it was a lot! I can't express how grateful we are to have such a great family restaurant that continues to reach a level of excellence year after year. I will look forward, as always, to my next visit! read more

Bridget Foy's is a cool vibe! I popped in for happy hour and found space at the bar no problem. There are plenty of tables surrounding the bar area that also count for HH. This place was way bigger than I expected with a large dining room and outdoor space. The bartender seemed new and was great but it seemed like there were other dinner specials that we were not informed of. What an excellent find! I recently attended a wedding in Philly and we had a few hours to wander around before our flight. Due to the rain, we ducked into Bridget Foy's and what an excellent choice! It was Sunday and they offered a brunch menu. My husband ordered the Chicken and Waffles and definitely enjoyed it because I didn't get to try a bite. I got the chicken parm sandwich with a side salad. The sandwich was so tasty! Perfectly flavored and I loved the bread with the soft insides and crunchy crust. Mmm...I still think about this sandwich sometimes. I also got a espresso martini because...brunch :) We sat at the bar and the bartenders are super friendly. It looks like a place frequented by locals because many patrons came by the say hi to the bartenders and strike up a conversation. It was the perfect meal to end our trip to Philadelphia! read more

Got the spring grain bowl with chicken and it was delicious. My only complaint is the price ($28) but maybe that is city prices (I'm from out of town). All of the flavors go together very well and it was ready for pickup in 15 min (ordered at 11:15am on a Saturday). My husband and I came here for my birthday early on a Friday night. We did not have a reservation, but they were able to see us without a problem at 5:30 PM. We seated outside on the side of the restaurant. It was a nice spot. The food was very good. The beer selection was decent. But most of all we had a really great waitress and I don't remember her name, but she was so lovely. She made it feel like we were taken care of, and she even came back and thanked us for our tip which was really sweet. read more

Been hearing about Bridget Foy's for ages and finally found myself in the area for an event. Was able to get seated super quickly and the host at the front has got to be the most personable guy I've met anywhere. The weather was gorgeous and we were able to sit outside and tuck our stroller out of the way. The patio is cute and was separated from the sidewalk. They had short rib. If it's on the menu I'm going to get it and theirs was fantastic. Definitely top 5 and I'll gladly pay the price. They had a kids menu which is always a bonus and the service was good. My friends and I had a great lunch at Bridget Foy's this afternoon. We were seated immediately in their beautiful decked out holiday space! The vibes were perfect for Christmas. Lights, wrapping paper, Christmas music - the whole nine yards. We ordered a round of drinks and some sweet treats to start us off. The beignets, cinnamon roll and drinks were all great. Our entrees came out a bit slower and were oddly spaced. 2 came out and then the other 2 were a good 10 minutes later. Once the food came out, the service in general was a bit slow, but nothing crazy. My chicken parm sandwich was a bit soggy, but made up for it in flavor. Came here for the haunted bar experience on Halloween evening but the whole "experience" (if you want to call it that) was disappointing. Regular food menu with no specials for Halloween and lacked even fall related items. They had a "special" halloween inspired drinks menu and there was a tarot card reader. We got two drinks off the specials' menu - both were low effort and no thoughts were given on presentation or taste. One of the drinks was supposed to have eyeball sprinkles which is why I got it. Upon receiving it looked just like a regular frozen cocktail and the server said "you will find some eyeballs in the drink". Well, they used those cheap plastic ones that were submerged at the bottom of the drink lol. I was finally able to find those sadly sitting at the bottom of my drink once my drink got finished. Lame! The other drink only had a black salt rim. C'mon, you couldn't think of anything creative for Halloween?! They also skimped on the alcohol so it was like drinking a mocktail. Bridget Foy is a terrific local establishment. The bar is very convivial with a nice beer selection and the food is top-notch elevated bar food. On my last trip, I ordered a Cobb Salad with grilled salmon and it was one of the best ones I have ever had. I have also had the blackened grouper sandwich, which is likewise delicious (albeit messy!). Service was extremely mid and unfriendly, not to mention it was very obvious that my party was not treated the same way the one next to us was (same waitress). Waitress did not acknowledge us when walking by to go to other tables resulting in us sitting with empty drinks and plates, unable to get her attention. As a long time waitress you notice when your martini gets one olive and the table next to you gets three. It almost felt as if she was acting petty towards us. It took so long to order a second drink that my entree was half gone by the time the drink arrived. But you know what did come fast? The check. I was lucky enough to be here on a beautiful fall day so we could eat outside. The restaurant was renovated a few years ago after a fire. It is beautiful with a casual vibe. Inside has tables and a bar area. Outside has a small courtyard with seating and seating along the front. It is nicely separated from the pavement with planters. The hostess was very friendly. She lets us pick our table since it wasn't crowded. Our servers were also friendly and helpful. The food was really good. We had the Autumn Bowl with groans, butternut squash, chickpeas and lots of other fall veggies. It had a flavorful dressing and it all went well together. The Blackened Grouper sandwich was tasty. One of those reviews that's been a long time in the making! Long before I ever entered for a bite to eat, I enjoyed stopping by Bridget Foy's for years during South Street Festivals, admired the vibrant outdoor seating it had, and told myself that I would pay it a proper visit one day. But being the slacker that I can be, it never happened, and then a fire made it look like it never would! But this neighborhood institution had its justified community support, so much so that a major fire didn't leave them down and out. And, even though they ended up re-opening during a global pandemic, they somehow managed to come back better than ever and even added a second restaurant destination in Cry Baby Pasta (https://www.yelp.com/biz/cry-baby-pasta-philadelphia) With it literally being reborn from a fire like a phoenix, and still maintaining a strong community following on a street that has had so much influence on my life, I really needed to go. So when I went to my most recent TLA show I saw an opportunity to finally go beforehand, and it proved to be well worth the wait. When I entered the first thing I noticed was the impressive artwork hanging on every wall. The second thing I noticed was how friendly and spot-on the staff were with their suggestions. From letting us know that we could add any protein we wanted to our pasta dish, to making incredible drink and appetizer suggestions, to cracking hilarious jokes at the expense of the 3rd person we were waiting for as they were super attentive during it, they were super helpful throughout. The menu rotates so often and I'm such a slacker to the point that I couldn't even begin to fully identify what I had by looking at it online. But everything was reasonably priced and delicious, and the cocktail menu was filled with plenty of classics that felt modern. The best bet for me entree-wise was definitely the fresh pasta, even more so when I was able to add crab to an amazing vegetable pasta. With a vibrant rotating menu that covers beyond the basics,, a good selection of beers and wine to go with the cocktails, and a great-sounding brunch menu, there's plenty of reasons to pay a visit to this classic! read more

Recently visited Bridget Foy's with friends after hearing about their All You Can Eat Pasta night on Mondays. Our server was wonderful and suggested we all start with ordering a plate of each pasta to share with the table and then later reordering our favorites. Orders came out quickly, and the servers were very attentive. The food itself was not bad, and we really enjoyed the Lamb Bolognese, Pesto, Spicy Crab pasta, and everyone agreed the bread was phenomenal. Started with a Caesar salad, which was also great and the house salad surprised us with how flavorful it was. Being aware that this was going to be an All You Can Eat service, I wasn't expecting everything to be my favorite. You can't blame the service or kitchen, with the fact that they're making plates upon plates of pasta throughout the night for each table. This wasn't the best pasta I've ever had, but I also understand the demand and wanting to have guests try some of each dish. Some of the plates definitely needed more salt/seasoning, but for $30/person and a couple of drinks, it was still a wonderful time! The general ambiance of the restaurant is somewhere between a sports bar & a family-style Italian restaurant & lively New American place. We last minute made brunch reservations at Bridget Foy's since they had ample openings and was a convenient spot for us and our friends. Located right in Headhouse Square, this restaurant is easy to get to on foot or bike and is in a really cute area. The space is pretty large, so it's not surprising that there were a lot of open reservations. We were one of the first ones to arrive after they opened their doors, and we were promptly seated. For the first 30 mins to 1 hour that we were there, there was very little other foot traffic ... but by the time our meal was done, the place had filled up a bit. Their brunch menu is large enough to provide variety but not too long to be overwhelming. I eyed up their selection of Benedicts, opting for the Florentine with spinach and creme fraiche. The Benedicts standardly come with breakfast potatoes, but I appreciated that I had the option to swap them for a salad (not a breakfast potato gal). The entree itself was good - the sauce wasn't drowning the dish, and the spinach was nicely seasoned. The eggs were perfectly poached, but I could taste a touch of vinegar on them. They were atop a standard English muffin, which served its purpose, but could have been more exciting (perhaps a biscuit or focaccia...). The salad was light and crisp, but it was a bit drowning in oil / vinegar. At $16, the serving was solid for the price. The coffee that I paired with my meal was decent but not the best I've had. My dining partners all enjoyed their meals too, sharing similar sentiments that the food was decent and they selected well. I would visit Bridget Foy's again for a different meal or their pasta parties! Definitely appreciate the ease of making a last minute res, so recommend them for anyone looking to take a larger group out for a nice meal! read more

One of the best veggie burgers I've ever had. I have been here multiple times and tried other things but it always comes back to the veggie burger. I appreciate that, in these times with imitation meat and 'impossible' burgers, that there is a place that still creates veggie burgers made of actual vegetables. I would highly recommend. Also, the crab hush puppies are amazing. I will definitely be back and recommend this place to anybody looking for a good solid place to eat. read more

We returned to Bridget Foy's for Christmas, 2 years after my original rave review and, unfortunately we did not have the same experience as before. The service was excellent, but the food was incredibly disappointing. My husband had the Scallop Ravioli ($29) and received 6 ravioli. For a meal. For $29. I ordered the swordfish ($29) and received a tiny fish steak and a small pile of cubed sweet potatoes. It almost was comical how empty the big plate was! The fish was very dry and the potatoes had no seasoning. If we wanted bread, it was $10 extra. Seasonal drinks were $13 for small glasses. It seems as if the prices have gone way up and the food quality has gone way down. We spent over $100 on tiny portions of dry, lackluster food and left Christmas dinner still hungry. read more

Started with appetizer of onion rings ($12) got 5 tiny rings (pictured below) .... disgraceful. Next a bowl of clam chowder ($13) ... was 4 oz of no clams just potatoes ...even more disgraceful. Asked to speak to a manger ... was told there was no manger, just waitress who told us she has no power to help us. We had to go next door to get something to eat.
