My gal pal and I were completing a little adventure yesterday and stopped at The Brigantine I.B. for lunch. We were greeted by Tarita, the bartender right away and seated by the window outside. We both ordered the Surf and Turf Tacos. It arrived in good time. Was nicely plated and delicious. The tacos were delicately grilled stuffed full of spicy carne and lovely, plump shrimp. Add melted cheese on top, and we're talking heaven. Served with a side of fresh, perfectly seasoned cole slaw and homemade chips, and you've got yourself a great meal. Love the ahi slider at happy hour, the servers and bar tenders are very friendly and our dog loves the treats too.

The food was good. My empty drink was never asked to be refilled, but they did take our finished plates away. I had to ask for my refills instead of being asked "Would you like a refill" Also, the flies were horrible. They did not offer the fly deterrent, we had to ask, even though the waiters and waitresses saw us trying to keep the flies away. When they did give us the fly deterrent fans, only one worked! We had a sunny booth that was a bit too sunny - would have been nice to have some kind of adjustable shade on the windows for that. But, the food and drinks were yummy, service really great. Soooooo good! My moms halibut was a*ma*zing! The calamari, the freshest, tastiest best we've ever had. My crab cake was ok, wouldn't get again. The service was slow to start but made up for it the rest of our lunch. We didn't check out menu or anything before deciding to eat here. Pleasantly surprised to find out they have happy hour even on Sunday! Took advantage of that menu, the oyster shooters were the so good. Perfectly made. I can't wait to go back. Located right on the main drag in Imperial Beach, Brigantine is it cozy spot for lunch or dinner with great views of the goings on. There is a lively indoor outdoor bar with roll-up garage door windows as well as outdoor seating. They're happy hour is the best in the neighborhood. $5 for a host of well drinks, wine and draft beers and then select appetizers! The food was excellent and the service on point. I've been a fan of the Brigantine family of restaurants and they have always delivered great food and great service. On this recent occasion, they had a slight misstep and delivered the wrong order. Ok, no harm no foul, but I always wait for others in our party so we can eat together, thus my food got a bit cool as they rushed the re-order. Fast forward the manager, Kelly was very apologetic and comped a drink and provided a free dessert. While we didn't ask or expect this, it's the little customer service details like this that can change a "meh" review to a great review. This spot is awesome! I love the Brigantine but they have different menus at some of them. We ordered the Oysters on the rocks, delicious. The cup of chowder is thicker, which I like (instead of watery). The claim chowder taste fresh and not like canned chowder. We also ordered the Rose' lemonade, best drink ever!!!! Lastly, the banana cheesecake is dangerously good. I was over the moon. The service, ambiance and food were great. The only reason I did not give this place a 5 stars is because the parking is horrible. There is no parking. You have to park a mile away or you can park at the beach parking lot across the street. I'm only giving 2 stars for the view and the service. Don't come here expecting good food or drinks. Me and my husband came here for a date night. Keep in mind I don't review unless something is REALLY bad or REALLY good. We started with the nacho which were extremely dry and nothing special. Me and my husband both got the Brigantine margarita and it tasted like melted sour candy, no trace of tequila. I've been pregnant so I should have at least gotten a buzz but I didn't feel a thing. I then proceeded to order a DOUBLE blackberry spritzer and once again tasted and felt nothing. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich and I ordered the lobster tacos. My tacos had zero flavor besides fried food, my husband's sandwich was also bland and soggy with a chicken patty thinner than McDonald's Mcchicken. Don't waste your money here. Great service, great food, great location! This Brigantine is across from the Imperial Beach pier. Parking on the street. Friendly greeting as soon as we walked in, even the bartender said hi. We sat at a high top table looking out at the Imperial Beach surf sign. Service was fast and the waitress answered all questions with a smile. The fanny bay oysters were fresh and delicious. The coconut shrimp were crispy, and came with a tasty sauce. The waitress split our Caesar salad onto two plates for us. Buffalo boneless wings were very good. Decor is light airy, sports tvs, nice wrap around bar, clean restrooms, walk to the beach for sunset after or down the pier to see all the fisherman lined up catching mackerel. If you are in the area this is a great stop. Also have great happy hour specials. read more

We have been lucky to always get a table here without issue. We tried calling for reservations but they do not always take them over the phone. Service is always good here. If you like brussel sprouts, I recommend that appetizer. We love them! Usually ambiance is family friendly at this location. However, last time we were there, a young group in a corner booth were yelling and cussing loudly as their drink rounds kept coming. That was upsetting for all the families with young children at nearby tables. The restaurant is basically one big room with a bar near center so not easy to escape that situation. read more

Wow! I went here for my birthday dinner and absolutely loved it. The ambiance was beautiful with the surrounding ocean view and dark wood focused interior. The services was very friendly, although I must warn -- if the staff offers you a dessert for your birthday, it is not on the house. It was a very cold and windy aftetnoon but we sat on the patio with our two pups joining us. Any concerns about my entree staying warm were shut down when the Macadamia Crusted Mahi with Risotto and Chef's Vegetables were brought to the table piping hot and absolutely scrumptious! Eh, it was a VERY underwhelming visit. I'm bummed since I'm a SD native and I was finally eating at the famed Brigantine! The swordfish tacos were dry and tasteless. The wet salsa on tortilla is a ticking time bomb waiting to bottom out. The oysters left MUCH to be desired. I had to pour out the melted ice water from each shell before doctoring it up for consumption. Honestly, it just made me miss the oysters at King's Fish House. The service--well, on a hot day, it would've been nice to have our drinks refilled. Then again, it's nice to have drink refills anytime or even see your server more than dropping off food and receiving your check. **Just a tip: Don't eat outside (on the Evergreen Avenue side), you're pretty much forgotten. read more

However, we were sitting where we faced the kitchen and I noticed before bringing my sons burger out one of the other servers lifted the bun with his bare hand for idk what reason to see what was in it before he brought it over. The carne asada was good but the the meat was very fatty.  Grilled swordfish and mahi mahi were very good.  A nice piece of fish on both of them.  Also ordered a Ketch brew which is the house beer.   The house beer is very good and went well with the tacos. Service is friendly and efficient.  Just depends on whom you get after reading some other reviews.  The gentlemen helping me was very friendly.  Overall a nice place for food and drinks.  I think it is a great addition to Imperial Beach.  The pier is right across the street. read more

My husband made reservations for 630. We showed up right at 6:30 and the gentleman at the door took us directly to our table and made sure to smile and say your waiter will be with you shortly . Savanna showed up at the table with the biggest and friendliest smile. She asked if we had any questions before we started anything and if so make sure to ask right away . First, I appreciate that The Brigantine has come to Imperial Beach. It is nice to have a quality restaurant as an option for drinks or dining. That said, I was shocked the other night when we ordered a skinny margarita made with Don Julio Blanco. You might want to sit down for this, they charged us $20.50 for one drink. The website says "Gluten free or can be made Gluten free" whereas the actual menu says "GF = Gluten Friendly". BIG difference and huge safety hazard. This is misleading and it shows in their staff's knowledge. Do NOT assume that all the clearly marked GF menu items are gluten free. I ordered the same swordfish fish as 2 others at my table and mine looked completely different. When I asked "why" the waiter stated, "we tried to make it as bland as possible" in reference to the fish. I was not only confused but I felt unsafe during the meal and chose not to eat the risotto out of fear. They seemed to have confused dairy and possibly fish for celiac/gluten allergy.
