First, I appreciate that The Brigantine has come to Imperial Beach. It is nice to have a quality restaurant as an option for drinks or dining. That said, I was shocked the other night when we ordered a skinny margarita made with Don Julio Blanco. You might want to sit down for this, they charged us $20.50 for one drink. My husband made reservations for 630. We showed up right at 6:30 and the gentleman at the door took us directly to our table and made sure to smile and say your waiter will be with you shortly . Savanna showed up at the table with the biggest and friendliest smile. She asked if we had any questions before we started anything and if so make sure to ask right away . We ordered or drinks and when the drinks came , we were ready to make our selection for the night . She answered my husband's questions and we were ready to order . The food came out quick and hot . However, we were sitting where we faced the kitchen and I noticed before bringing my sons burger out one of the other servers lifted the bun with his bare hand for idk what reason to see what was in it before he brought it over. Wonderful new restaurant in IB. I've been to the Brig in La Mesa many times and was thrilled to see one here. They have only been open a few weeks. It's located across the street from the IB pier on Seacoast drive with a view of the ocean. We came at sunset and it was beautiful! It was Happy Hour and taco Tuesday... double bonus! We decided to try the oysters and got the Fanny Bay and Bluepoint. They were fresh and served with cocktail sauce and horseradish. One of them looked weird, and our waiter happily brought us another one. They have several different tacos including swordfish, fried fish, steak, and carnitas. The grilled swordfish were blackened, spicy and seasoned perfectly. I love the shrimp tacos in La Mesa and even though they were not on the menu our waiter had the chef make us a couple. We had the grilled shrimp which were delicious and they made us a fried spicy shrimp taco which I did not like. It was served with buffalo sauce, unlike the one in La Mesa. I would not get it made that way again. Our waiter happily took it off our bill and offered us a dessert. I never turn down dessert!! We got the S'mores brownie. It was delicious, made with a graham cracker crust and topped with toasted marshmallows. The flavor was delicious however I think it could have been better if served hotter (it was only luke warm) and topped with ice cream. This place is just what IB needed. It also has a beautiful bar. A new restaurant is in town and it's quaint, fun, relaxing and just plain good. This is really a miniature version of the Brigantine located in La Mesa with a condensed menu and a few different twists on their food items and menu. Overall, I like the concept here Keep it simple!! Started off with some tasty oysters, some blue points and fanny bay. One oyster looked a bit off so we swapped it out. It was taco Tuesday, so we jumped right in and ordered a few swordfish tacos and a shrimp taco. The shrimp tacos were not the same as in the LA Mesa, but as our great waiter Estevan had mentioned, they are still trying to find their groove. They've only been open for two weeks and the menu is being tweaked as we speak. Service was spot on from the water being poured to the table being cleared of any extra items. What a great addition to Imperial Beach and just in the nick of time for the Holidays. read more

The website says "Gluten free or can be made Gluten free" whereas the actual menu says "GF = Gluten Friendly". BIG difference and huge safety hazard. This is misleading and it shows in their staff's knowledge. Do NOT assume that all the clearly marked GF menu items are gluten free. I ordered the same swordfish fish as 2 others at my table and mine looked completely different. When I asked "why" the waiter stated, "we tried to make it as bland as possible" in reference to the fish. I was not only confused but I felt unsafe during the meal and chose not to eat the risotto out of fear. They seemed to have confused dairy and possibly fish for celiac/gluten allergy. Sit at the bar! The bartender is fantastic! My favorite place to sit is at the bar and get recommendations from the staff. This was not a disappointment my friends. He recommended the filet with a bleu cheese crust and it was really good! Both the bubbly champagne and the sangria was great and the atmosphere was hopping. All around a great experience. read more

This place has received mixed reviews but I decided to go because their menu looked good and I wanted to make my own opinion. My husband and I went and took our two boys, ages 5 & 9. We were able to get in right away even though it was busy for dinner. The service was great and the food and drinks were delicious and prompt. I highly recommend this place. My husband had the blackened salmon with mashed potatoes and fresh grilled vegetables. I had the pan seared mahi mahi. We shared half dozen oysters on the half shell, they were cleaned very well and practically melted in your mouth. Today Miss Napkin head , Granny Sweet treats , Debbie Dish cloth and kimmy kerchief went for afternoon brunch . The lovely young lady Zen came along to take our order. Wine was ordered and why not on such beautiful day eating and drinking overlooking the ocean. The company was amazing , tacos , salad and chowder were all devoured . we certainly have no complaints only complements. As can be expected, this spot directly across from the IB surfboad sign needed a little tuning up when it first opened. What we have now has matured into the finest spot in all of Imperial Beach, view, service and kitchen-wise. Tuesdays are a MUST-go here, with fantastic taco specials, great draft prices and just all around nice people to deal with. Beautiful sunset views, comfortable booths - What more could you need for a lazy Tuesday afternoon? I recommend all of the tacos here; they're all quite tasty. For a first trip I would recommend the Carnitas, the Brig Fish and the Mahi-Mahi. The potato-based nachos are outstanding, as are the several sandwich options. Brigantine-level kitchen and service, but in a more relaxed, polos and shorts-OK environment. Staff is uniformly great, and I always look forward to the friendly service. Wow! Such unique, incredible food. The calamari appetizer was melt in your mouth, cooked perfectly. It had zero rubbery texture at all. The brussels sprouts app are made with blue cheese and mini cube size pieces of bacon and were incredibly delicious. The ahi poke wontons app also did not disappoint. The only entree I tried was the wok charred ahi and it was incredible. The outside of the ahi had some sort of wasabi crust that was unlike anything I've ever eaten before (and I love ahi tuna). I'd you're in Imperial Beach for any reason, I definitely recommend putting enjoying a meal at this super cute restaurant at the top of your "must do" list! I do not often write reviews, but I had to in this case. I will start out by saying that the hostess and our waitperson were excellent; and I know how difficult it has been in the hospitality industry especially for restaurants and hotels. I ordered a half dozen oysters on the half shell. They were good. My friend's shrimp cocktail came on a small plate, not the traditional cup; but ok, different presentation. The shrimp were horrible, she did not eat all of them. I tried one.....it was rubbery and fibrous. My coconut crusted shrimp were cold and also not good at all. The shrimp seemed as if they were a frozen, pre-made product that came out of a food service plastic bag. Pre-made products at Trader Joe's are better. We did have a glass of wine so our bill was $78. It was very disappointing. I would have been happier with a "good" slice of pizza from somewhere and call it a day; but we had a hankering for healthy seafood. Oh well...... read more

This is our favorite spot in IB and usually go once or twice a week! Great atmosphere looking out to the pier and ocean. The food is outstanding, (I couldn't tell you my favorite, I love it all), but more importantly is their service and staff. With a HUGE shout out to Kat and Tara! I got food poisoning from the meal the I ordered there yesterday. I ordered oysters, a salad, chowder, and some veggies. I was sick most of the afternoon and into last night with diarrheal. It took several doses of medication to finally settle my stomach. So, I called the restaurant, and I asked to speak with the manager. The person that I spoke with said that there was nothing that she could do, but someone from management would contact me today. I am still waiting on that call. Needless to say, I will not eat there again if this is how I am treated. This food there is too high priced to have resulting like this. Very disappointing. UNSAT!!! read more

We went there for my daughters 5th grade grad. We ordered wine and drinks with water. Water never came. Our server Kayla took our order and we gave her our free appetizer coupon. Coupon was good for only calamari or Brussel sprouts. We ordered the Brussels ( we love Brussels) but they weren't that good, lot of fat and tasted too strong like they were old. I asked her to make my French dip lean, but the cook said they couldn't. My husband ordered a few different beers but they were out of the ones he wanted. Food was okay. We got the bill and we were charged for the free app, and the beers they never brought, because they were out. The server Kayla saw we noticed the discrepancy and quickly apologized for overcharging us before we even told her what the discrepancy was about! She obviously knew she had way overcharged us. She then presents the credit card swiped with it pre set on 25% 30% and 35%. I'm a great tipper, but seeing this I left her ten bucks. Should have said "here's a tip, stop trying to scam people". We have been to Brigantine on Coronado and LOVED the food but wanted something a little more casual and less "dress code-y". This place has an AWESOME beach vibe and the same great food !! I was surprised to see SHRIMP AND GRITS on the menu and couldn't wait to try it! The linguica was a nice addition but the beans seemed odd, however they actually added a nice texture. We have had the crab cakes appetizer before and ordered again but were disappointed to only get ONE crab cake. Last time it was two and much more realistic for a shared tapas plate at $19. That's the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5. Understandably prices are higher these days, and I am willing for pay more for good crab, but $19 for one small crab cake at a Seaside restaurant .... No. If it's really that expensive right now, maybe list it as "market price" or specify "crab cake" not "cakes" My wife had swordfish tacos (again) and thought the fish was a little dry this time and asked for more sauce, but LOVED the homemade chips. We enjoyed the open patio and people-watching on the pedestrian friendly beach front and had great service and good, reasonably priced entrees and GENEROUS happy hour margaritas!
