Dempsey Energy of North Attleboro practices unfair and deceptive trade practices…read more I strongly believe that Dempsey Energy has overcharged for work that was done and has charged for work that was not done at my home in East Falmouth, MA. To summarize my complaint: Dempsey came to my house to inspect and provide an estimate for the work to repair or replace a furnace, I was presented with his phone that had "$7,995" on it which he told me represented the "modifications necessary to fit the new furnace into the existing structure and ductwork". He went on to explain that these "modifications" would not be covered by American Home Shield". I told him I needed to think about this and would get back to Dempsey. A few days later I gave Dempsey the go ahead to do the work and asked for an itemized estimate to show how the $7,995 was calculated. I received a list of the scope of work, but no costs associated with each line item on the estimate (see attached file "Furnace"). Once the work was completed I again asked for an itemized estimate to show how the $7,995 was calculated and received a list of work, but no itemized breakdown of the costs charged. 1. Dempsey charged me $1,125 to connect a power cord to the new furnace (cord removed from the old furnace and connected to the new furnace). Dempsey confirmed the scope of the work that was done. This is not a modification, but a normal scope of a furnace installation. 2. Dempsey charged me $850 to connect an existing thermostat wire to the new furnace. Dempsey confirmed the scope of the work that was done. This is not a modification, but a normal scope of a furnace installation. 3. Dempsey charged me $250 to "provide proper support of the furnace with either a furnace stand or furnace blocks with anti-vibration pads". The new furnace was placed in the existing uni-strut supports. No modifications to the existing and no new support was provided. Dempsey confirmed that no work was done. They already came highly recommended, but when I reached out, they were SO nice. They came out as quickly as they could (most companies told me 2-3 weeks!) but they called me several times to give me updates as to whether they could try to get to me even sooner than my scheduled appointment which was only 1 day after I called! Joe and Corey were truly amazing - firstly, they were incredibly communicative about their ETA. When they arrived, they did a thorough diagnosis of the HVAC unit and even took the time to explain exactly what they were doing and why. They took care of the issue with ease and made a lot of recommendations to prevent future damage. They also offered to look at some of the other AC parts and my AC filter just to make sure I was maintaining everything properly - a service they did not need to do or take more time for. They ended up staying just chatting about best practices and were just about the friendliest repair people I have ever dealt with. I own two properties and have been through SO many bad or iffy contractors and repair people so it's such a relief to find reliable and high quality service providers. I will use Fong and Sullivan every time I have an issue and cannot recommend Joe and Corey enough.

However, as soon as you need a maintenance call you learn to why. They have a large staff and come right out when you have a problem. They can handle anything from routine work to replacing the entire boiler and have an excellent plumber on staff as well. They come by once a year for a tune up on the boiler. They monitor oil levels and auto deliver as needed. In 9 years, I have never come close to running out of oil or had to think about it. For everyone shopping solely on price, I recommend you consider how important service is, especially when you need an emergency call.
