Found this place on Yelp. Always like to try new fast casual places. This one has a simple menu layout, with a build-your-own or their recommendations. I did one of their recommended bowls (earth, curry and fire) with tofu. It took about 4-5 minutes to prepare. All of the vegetables that went into it were still bright and crunchy. This place is the Chipotle of stir fry! It's not like BD Wong's Grill or other buffet-style stir fry places. Very fresh ingredients. You can choose a base of noodles or rice, add a protein (or not) and a choice of veggies (up to 4). You can also ask them to spice it up. You get a huge bowl and my total was $9. Place was super busy at 1:30 on a weekday, however the wait was minimal. They make everything right in front of you, stir frying the contents in actual wok skillets. Great choice of veggies, the menu is not overwhelming. The flavors were good. I have had better, but to be honest, at higher price points. Staff is great. There was person emptying the trash and as everyone was bringing their tray over he was actually asking them how their food was! I wish they had locations out in the burbs. I usually get brown rice with my order, the last couple visits, the rice is still in a scoop, none of the ingredients seem mixed together, and all of the "sauce" is at the bottom. You pick either noodle, white, or brown rice. Then you select your choice of meat (i.e. chicken, steak, tofu). They allowed you to pick 4 choices of veggies but you can pay for more if you like. We ordered noodles with golden miso (meh) and rice with curry (pretty good actually). While it's better than the majority of contemporary Asian American restaurants, I've had far better in Chicago, for comparable prices. Filling and moderately tasty, but not something to write home about. What you do get, however, is a peek at Asian food made cool. The menu and the decor serves a very modern customer. I wouldn't be surprised if a franchise to grew from this idea, and it will probably happen soon. So, 3 stars for the food, but bump to 4 for the coolness and the potential. read more

Came here with a friend one evening in the mood for a healthy dinner and craving some stir fry-- there was no wait and everyone working was extremely friendly despite walking in right before close ! Both of us went with the make your own stir fry with teriyaki sauce- one with brown rice, and one with rice noodles. The vegetables were very fresh and there wasn't a long wait until our food was done. If you're on the hungrier side- I'd recommend the noodles, but both dishes were good sized portions. While it isn't hard to figure out, the menu is weird. They have two suggested dishes, but you are able to create your own masterpiece. Step 1 - pick your sauce. I had the Thai basil which I expected to be spicy. It wasn't. They have other sauce choices. Step 2 - pick your rice. Brown, white or rice noodles. Step 3 - pick your protein. I opted for the steak. They also had chicken and tofu. The steak was very tender flavorful. I was pleasantly surprised with the steak. Step 4 - pick your veggies. Pick as many or as few as you'd like and they'll get the amount right to fill your bowl. Step 5 - pay. Step 6 - wait for them to assemble your food. Step 7 - enjoy your creation. A steak bowl with water was $11 with tax. A bit more than I like to spend for lunch on a daily basis, but that seems to be the going rate for any place worthy of writing a review. The ingredients were good quality and prepared well. It has a cool vibe and nice unobstructed views to the street to get a little bit of people watching over your lunch break. Wow, I can't even express how much I am already in love with this place. Even though the lunch rush line is pretty long, it's totally worth it. Food comes out piping hot, and it's the perfect serving for lunch. I had the coconut curry with vegetables and rice noodles, and it hit the spot. In love with the fact that everything is vegan, with exception to the actual chicken/steak that they serve. As someone with seafood allergies, it is beyond exciting to walk into a place that serves my favorite kind of cuisine without having to working about cross contamination with seafood or worry that the sauces have hidden fish oil or anchovies. This is an EXCELLENT healthy, quick lunch spot in the Loop. It's a bright, open concept that is nice to eat-in, but you can also quickly get through the line to take your lunch to go. The restaurant is gluten-free, but it still tastes great! If you visit during the weekday lunch rush, there is always a long line, but the line moves quickly. It's similar to the Chipotle concept - go through the line, order your toppings, then your food gets stir-fried and handed to you hot and fresh. Overall, I think this is one of the freshest-tasting lunches you can get in the Loop! The portions are also very large, which makes for a great deal compared to some of the other lunch options nearby. There are several sauce options (and sometimes a special offering seasonally) and a wealth of fresh veggies to choose from, so you can always get something different. Due to how busy it is, they don't seem very willing to let you taste-test any sauces before ordering, which would be a nice touch. They have so many options but each has a very specific flavor, so it'd be nice to be able to taste test before you order an entire meal that may not end up to your prefernce because of the sauce you had to choose blindly. Very good place. I had the tofu stir fry on brown rice with chili coconut curry sauce and kale, peppers, broccoli, and zucchini, as well as a side of edamame. The veggies were fresh and crunchy. The tofu is local and very good. The sauce was excellent and spivey as I like it. I also thought the edamame was well flavored and had the right amount of salt. This place is a veritable vegetable heaven. I work about a block away from Brightwok, and decided to stop in for lunch on a Monday. It's a cute, simple little storefront. The only downside is that there is typically a line out the door from 12-1. It took me about 25 minutes to get my lunch. While I won't go here if I'm in a hurry, the food was totally worth the wait. The menu and ordering process is a bit like what might result if a Chipotle mated with a Flat Top Grill. You start with a base - rice, rice noodles, or greens; you pick several generous scoops vegetables; you select a protein or more vegetables; and you choose a wok sauce. They use a lot of local ingredients, including Phoenix Bean tofu, made in Chicago, and Midwestern chicken and beef. The sauces all seem to be on the light side, making a nutritionally conscious lunch easy to achieve. Price-wise, Brightwok is average for a Loop lunch. Expect to spend between 9-13 for a bowl. I'd say the generous portions, justify the cost. I'm a smaller person, but I could easily get two meals out of one of their bowls. Ultimately, I gave this place four stars because of the wait. It's still pretty new, so I'm hoping once all the excitement dies down they will find their stride and wait times will go down. So far, of all the health conscious food I've found in the southeast Loop, it is the most fun. read more

Reason For Docking 1 Star- I've gone 3 times in the last two weeks, the first two trips they really skimped out on the sauce so when I brought it back to work it was rather dry/not much added flavor.
