I love Brigs. This is a great breakfast/brunch place to eat. Service is usually very good, pleasant. I've been going there since I came to Durham 30 years ago and have only had one unpleasant experience with the service (and everyone is entitled to a bad day). I like the food. The only food issue I have with Brigs is that the bread is dreadful. I really wish they had biscuits! The menu is extensive and I can't remember not liking what I'd ordered. The food is hot and plentiful. I usually get the Florentine Benedict, but the last time I was there I just had scrambled eggs and potatoes. Food was filling and the only $6. I do not drink coffee, but according to a friend that does, Brigs has great coffee. I also like that I can sit and talk to friends and family for as long as I want after eating. Though I must say, I do not go to Brigs on Friday/Sat/ Sunday. Very crowded then. I really wish they had another Durham location. A lot of the tables are near windows and it's a pleasant place to eat. read more

Stopped here on the way from the airport before heading to Asheville--unfortunately we hit peak hours and waited about 25 minutes, but the buzzer system was accurate. Place is casual, diner- like. Service was good. Coffee was bold and enjoyable. I ordered one of their award-winning Benedicts--the Monterrey Benedict with smoked turkey, mushrooms, avocado, and poached eggs. The English muffin had a nice crisp bottom, but the dish overall was pretty soggy, likely from the vegetables. Flavor-wise, it fell a bit flat and didn't stand out as expected. read more

I've been coming to this Brigs location for close to 35 yrs. 98% of the time the food and service is excellent. After several visits you get to know the menu, find your favorites, and appreciate the monthly additions that are seasonal. On this visit I chose the bratwurst burger on a pretzel bun with sweet potato fries. My spouse will always get eggs Benedict wherever it's avail and the broccoli salad that they've become known for. Everything was delicious. I noticed they added a mural to the wall in one of the rooms to reflect notable local sites and in the other was Halloween decor. Both a nice touch. I highly recommend Brigs over Benetis down the street, where some of the staff can be prickly at the drop of a hat. read more

This review marks my third time visiting this Brig's location. This restaurant has a diner feel to it. The portions are generous and worth saving for multiple meals. People come and sit awhile to enjoy good company and good food. On this visit I ordered one of their Thanksgiving specials: the Pilgrim's Benedict. It is a very generous serving of food. I made three breakfasts out of it. My companion ordered a fluffy waffle with eggs and homefries as his side dish. It was his first visit. He was satisfied. I'm glad I introduced him to Brig's. I never thought I'd fall in love with a restaurant so much that whenever I'm in town I require myself to come back. That says a lot because the wait here on a Sunday is at least 30 minutes and I'll wait gladly. This restaurant reminds me of an old timey diner, but with a huge menu stacked with crazy options and combos, you could get lost in the menu. The ambience, to be honest wasn't all that, but the wall of various landmarks in the area was a really nice touch. I had the worst experience at Brigs in Durham. We arrived and we were seated quickly and this is where things went downhill. We sat for 10 minutes before our server came over. We placed our food order and drink order at the same time. 1 water and 2 cups of coffee. I ordered the Caprese burger. I should have known that was a mistake because our server said "the what?" I had to show him what it was the "specials" menu that is on the table. We sat for another 20 minutes waiting for our drinks at least. The server finally returned with our food and the drinks. Usually when you go to a restaurant you order and receive the drinks while you are waiting for the food. Regardless our food arrived with the drinks and our survey apologize for the delay in drinks. The food was not great. My burger was over cooked, the bun was cold and all of my fries were burnt. 90% of my fries were the small pieces that you would get at the bottom of the bag. The person I was with ordered the works omelet which was also overcooked and the coffee tasted burnt. I really don't think we will go back to Brigs. read more

My friends and I came here on a Saturday around 10:30 and the wait was about 15 minutes for a table. The restaurant seemed to get busier with time, so definitely be prepared for a wait if you come around 11/12 on a weekend. The waitress who took our orders was so sweet and friendly. She was quick to refill drinks and overall very attentive. The food came out fairly quick considering how busy the place was. I ordered the Malibu omelette without cheese with a side of home fries and fruit. The omelette was really good, it was loaded with fresh vegetables and the eggs were super fluffy. At first I thought the serving of avocado was lacking based on the small slice on top, but there was actually more inside the omelet thankfully. The home fries were a little hard and cold, but that was my only complaint. The prices were not bad either! Really impressive menu for this little diner-style place in Durham. And looks like it's part of a small chain so looking forward to trying the other locations. My GF had the mixed berry pancakes - really good but she found herself wishing she had got the waffle done the same way. I had the coastal Benedict with blue crab and shrimp and it was definitely a winner. We also split an avocado toast - really the only thing we didn't like. Our waiter was "OK" - not very attentive and not able to make good recommendations because he doesn't eat meat or eggs and hasn't tasted most of the food, but a nice guy. There were other servers there who seemed more at home so hopefully next time we get one of them. All in all a good experience - will try again. read more

I usually don't write reviews, like ever... but I wen't about a week ago and got the pumpkin pancakes. Maybe the chef was having an off day, but they came back RAW! Also had no taste even closely resembling pumpkin. I had the waiter take them back (which I also NEVER do) and they came back raw again. Breakfast time! My partner picked this place and honestly I wasn't expecting much. I've been struggling with food either being just okay during my visit in NC. This place though, super yummmmmmmy! It gives me old school diner vibes in the south and luckily they delivered. I got the shrimp and crab eggs benny (which is always a gamble getting eggs Benedict in public because everything can go wrong-- believe me). This one though was delicious and I still think about it. It had perfect poached eggs, yummy sauce, and lots of seafood underneath. It was a scrumptious experience and I didn't think it would fill me up but it did. The house fries are also so delicious I don't know how they make them but these are by far my favorite I've ever eaten. My partner got the croissant pancakes, grits, and eggs. It was his first time having grits, he didn't really like them, but I took a bite and these were really good. The eggs were basic, no frills. The croissant pancake was crispy, buttery, and sweet. This is a toughy because there was a lot of good, there was just some not-so-good. We were seated in a VERY crowded area of the restaurant and it was on the noisy side. Still, we ordered our food. The coffee was decent, and the wait was relatively short. Good: portions were excellent, best home fries I've had in a long time, and my wife's avocado toast was excellent. Bad: my eggs weren't done - even after specifying to the waitress what I needed, the bacon was paper-thin and tasteless, and the cinnamon english muffins were the most bland cinna-toast I've ever eaten. Compounded, the eggs the second time were still a bit undercooked for my liking, but we needed to move on. So, not totally bad, but not superb. My biggest flaw is the parking. ZERO handicapped at the door and FIVE take-out. We had to park across the lot near the car wash, and there were ZERO take-out customers in the spots. Very rude and disappointing. The food is very good, and the menu has lots of variety. My main reason for not eating there is that I seem to go at very very busy times. The noise is a real challenge for me and there are long waits for a table, for the food, and to pay the bill. They do have a good reputation and there is good parking, so I imagine that accounts for the things I don't like. I'm not likely to enjoy the ambiance. So. If you don't mind the things that I do mind, if you want a variety of selections and know you will be getting good food then you might just be willing to rate it with that fifth star read more

I chose a meat-lovers omelet and subbed out the potatoes and toast for sliced tomatoes. Hooray for the keto diet where it's all eggs and cheese. Brigs is just what I always need to comfort me. In autumn they have these pumpkin pancakes that melt right in your mouth. The service is always good, and if there is a line and you have time, wait. The grits taste like someone's granny is making them in the back, they never skimp on the cheese for my scrambled eggs, and the omelets are massive and delicious. If you're in need of an internal snuggle just ask for the hot chocolate. You'll feel just like you're in front of the fire place at a mountain retreat. I live in a different city now, and Brigs is still my go to. I can't pass the exit coming into town without stopping by, and I never take my food to go. Wow what a great spot for an affordable, delicious brunch! On my drive home, I was going to pass this restaurant so I decided to call in a takeout order. The lady I spoke with on the phone was clear, nice, and efficient. It was loud in the restaurant around her so she double checked to make sure she had my order and the time I requested to pick it up correct. My order was ready upon arrival and was accurate. The restaurant was busy with customers waiting for tables and paying for their orders. Nonetheless, the two hostesses greeted me and told me my order was ready and with them at the hostess desk. There was a short line checking out and then I paid for the order and left (only took a couple minutes). We ordered the ole scrambled eggs (without avocado) with toast and grits, Waldorf salad, and the croissant French toast. All of it came to $29 - cheaper than other brunch restaurants. Plus the portion sizes are large. I saved half of my Waldorf salad for later. All of the items we ordered tasted great and were filling. The grits did have an excessive amount of butter, but it could be easily poured off. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would eat here again.
