Totally unassuming, like previous review mentioned. But the pickles are delicious! Go get some.

My family came to the U.S. from Germany, and every time we visit this German specialty store and…read morebutcher, it instantly takes us back to holidays spent with family back home. The authenticity here is so comforting and hard to find nowadays. We especially love their liverwurst -- which has become surprisingly difficult to come by -- along with their brats and the fresh, soft breads. They also always have so many great suggestions for pickled treats and specialty items that remind us of traditional German meals. This summer we're definitely planning on picking up some of their steaks and racks of ribs for grilling season because they always look so fresh, red, and delicious in the display case. The staff is wonderful, and especially the younger gentleman who works there has become our favorite person to see when we visit. He's incredibly charming and friendly, and honestly you can get so distracted talking with him that you lose track of time. We visit many times throughout the year and always leave happy. A true hidden gem for anyone looking for authentic German foods and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

This used to be my go-to place in the Catskills for German sausages, deli and grilling meats…read more(steaks, rack of lamb etc). Unfortunately, since the business got sold and had a change in owners, things have gone downhill big time. The sausages are far from what they used to be. Casings are not properly closed, they don't taste the same and their Wienerle look wrinkly and outright unappetizing + they are oversmoked. Very sad to see an institution go downhill and change that quickly from being an authentic German butcher to being a subpar spot that has none of the craftsmanship and quality that they used to have. Won't be back!!

Watch your receipts all of you, especially tourists!!!! As a person on fixed income, and a local,…read moreThey are overcharging customers for (sliced deli ) meat, (and who knows what else I did not bother to hang around and find out ) by ADDING SALES TAX TO DELI MEAT. Yes to prepared sandwiches! NO , Never to slides deli meat, or any meat! Instead of fixing the problem they offered to refund my money. I actually wanted the board head product( without paying sales tax on meat. ) I don't understand what they thought they were or think they're doing. It's illegal!!!! Best deli meat ever ,in my opinion ,is Boars Head & they have it. I've worked at numerous deli's (Adam's) and Supermarkets, ie: Waldbaums, where you had to actually Know what was taxable and not taxable . And I'm sure a bunch of other people can't agree that, meat , in this case,is not taxable. He knew he was wrong. He said he was in the middle of updating his system. But instead of fixing the problem, and taking off the sales tax so I could leave with the meat , I would have loved to have had & give them my money at $13.99 /lb (a bit high, but was willing to pay for it) He offered my money back so that the next unknowing, tourist, (tourist town, or regular person )in particular would go in there and actually pay him the extra bit of money he's getting that you don't have to claim on your tax forms because it's not a section on the form to pay tax on because MEAT IS NOT taxable. So he's collecting money just like my vet did in Lake Katrine New York collected money on my dog's medicine on sales tax until I caught it. Medicine is not taxable at all either. Including Band-Aids, aspirin, medicated shampoo. Just be careful consumers out there. Because if you're not paying attention, they'll take your money, because that is exactly what is happening when they tax items that don't belong BEING TAXED. It's our country's 250th birthday where we didn't pay the sales tax on the TEA ( 250 years later, we're still not paying sales tax on Tea. (Or coffee) You are welcome;-)! I'm sure I am one of the first and few that have noticed tax on meat, in that store & brought it to their attention So hopefully I am not banned from that store. I will let you know in about 60 days or so. Update btw need to say, I really don't want to be that person to "hurt " local businesses but someone needs to know and if it were a big corporation I'd post it too. I obviously didn't buy the meat nor have any thoughts of posting anything about the company.or I'd have had my phone out to screen shot it. But that was my experience trying to get my favorite deli meat (and willing to pay the $2.00 tourists tax I call it jokingly) more per lb than most anywhere in Ulster county but wasn't willing to pay sales tax. Hope they have" fixed ". Their system. What a waste of a pound of turkey too. Rather than acknowledge the fact and sell it to me correctly.
