I've always noticed this place always looks so packed which usually means the food is good so when I had to find a place to go with my family I selected Brioso and crossed my fingers. First impression was that it was cozy and a little dark but a very welcoming staff makes up for it. Being that we went on a Saturday afternoon in the summer I thought it would be somewhat empty but I guess that's what the baby shower party next to us thought too. IT WAS LOUD and there was no separate room for them or us. We were going to leave but we stayed and ordered our calamari, wine and entrees and then looked on as the baby shower gifts were being opened. Okay, so it wasn't so bad. Food: The calamari was cooked well and seasoned well and the sauce was great. When you start dipping your bread in the sauce for the calamari you know it's good. The entrees took a while to come and I hope that was just b/c they were catering more to the baby shower guests but we all enjoyed our dinners pretty much. I had the rigatoni with eggplant and mozzarella. Great flavor. The bolognese I heard was good but the shrimp scampi was liquidity and was not that good. The shrimp was on the right side of the plate, the fettuccine noodles were clumped together on the other side of the plate. So my advice would be to avoid that dish. In the early days of the pandemic lockdown we made sure that we helped out local restaurants especially our favorite, Brioso. For the second time since outdoor dining, Brioso has refused to take outgoing orders citing they are too busy even though it's raining. I went to the new dorp restaurant crawl yesterday. It was annoying and me, my disabled father and my girlfriend were leaving because the lines were out of hand. She needed to use the bathroom we stopped there. I didn't taste the crawl food cuz it was out of hand but you were pumping it out. My girlfriend when she went in to use the bathroom called me and said it's a nice place and we wanted to eat so she suggested here. I asked about pricing since I paid for the horrible crawl and my father asked to take us out. She said it was reasonable , nothing over $28. We sit down. We're flipping the menu and my girlfriend says that's not the menu she saw. We just order pizzas because it was on my father. At some point my girlfriend asks if there's 2 menus. Sure as shit there is. My girlfriend was in the doors and my father and I was outside. She saw the menu and we come in and the hustle starts. You didn't hurt me. The waiter and waitress tried to make an excuse but in my opinion unacceptable. The okie doke!!! read more

Went there a few months ago with a group of 8 and had a fabulous time celebrating a friends anniversary. My wife and I decided to go there this evening. Tried to make reservations but they won't take them for only 2. Arrived at around 6:45 pm. There was some type of issue going on between the owner/chef and waiter made all the more complicated by the arrival of a musical duo that was set to play. The owner/chef was quite clear that he had a number of reservations coming in and that the musicians would be a distraction. He finally came back to us and gave us a table, you guessed it, right in front of the musicians. We decided to leave. I have been there 3 times now, 2 bad experiences 1 good. That is enough for me. I am sure it is a great venue if you have a group of 4 or more. Otherwise, I'd skip it. read more

Great food, but service was just not there. When I asked to hear the specials, the waiter disappeared and came back more than 7 minutes later to recite them. Not crowded at all this Sunday. We both ordered special entrees. Should have asked how much. I ordered soft shell crabs, got 2 for $36.50 with a small side of escarole. Albeit delicious, very pricey. My husband ordered the whole Bronzini, which after being filleted only amounted to about 4-5 oz, also $36.50. Waiter never asked how the dinner was. So sorry to post this rather negative post, but I feel the owner should know about this waiter. The older waiter with glasses is a gem. Great food and service , a New Dorp staple. My preference is lunch because of the crowds at dinner but that is no reflection on the restaurant and only a personal preference. A crowded restaurant is more important then what any wanna be restaurant reviewer in Yelp could ever say. Worth the trip! read more

I wanted to like this place more, but the service just isn't there. We came in with a larger group of 10 to celebrate a birthday. We were seated and had to wait 20 minutes to get a wine list, and another 10 minutes to get a cocktail menu even though the waiter had come to ask if we wanted "cocktails or wine" and we said yes, both. We did not receive any food menus until nearly 40 minutes after we had been seated, and we had to flag the waiter down to ask for them (and he then took another 10 to get them to us even though we could see him not really doing anything in the meantime). To me, this was completely unacceptable. An hour into being seated we were just placing our orders, and entrees did not come out until 2 hours after we were seated. We were in the restaurant for over 3 hours when all was said and done, but the bulk of that time was spent trying to get the bare minimum of our waiter's attention to order food or ask for drink refills (soda). The food was decent, but pricey and nothing I can't get at one of the many other Italian restaurants on Staten Island who do have good service. Sadly, I will not be returning. read more

Last time I was there was with a party of 8 and wasn't pleased with the place. First of all we all ordered sangria and after the first pitcher the waiter says we' re out of wine ! In an Italian restaurant ?? Then when the entrees came out everyone looked at each other and said where's the rest of it. It has been a while since I dined at Brios in Staten Island. The food had always been consistent so I recently went back for dinner. My experience was disturbing, I believe he was the owner who treated his Hispanic staff of servers with total disrespect. It was cringeworthy. This place is closest to my grandmas homemade pasta that I've ever found., and trust me I've been searching a long time. Gnocchi is so delicious, best polenta, just as good as grandmas. . Big portions, great service, only thing host can be a little friendlier. It was my first time trying them out and when I walked in a few italian guys were standing by the register, didn't even smile. Who ever the chef is should be acquainted with the following SALT AND PEPPER ! under seasoned everything except for their sausage ragout that was well seasoned. Anyway they seem to cater to repeat business and are negligent toward unfamiliar faces....when you have 7 busboys waiters standing around and water glasses are empty there is definitely a need for more attentiveness. While the staff is courteous they are not overly friendly unless they know you, guess they are going for the Rao's thing, but you can't do that with subpar food on your menu. Their specials which are haphazardly recited by your waiter, almost outnumber the items on the menu. Oh by the way this place is expensive for a mediocre restaurant in the borough of Staten Island. Always a good place to eat that's close to home. Try the polenta! The gnocchi are good & I recently had a risotto special that was exquisite. Their pizza is really good too & also a great choice as an appetizer to split. Service is good, not great. The wait staff can come off as rude, but food does arrive at a nice pace. I recently came to Brioso's for the first time to attend my friend's bridal shower. The tables were set up very nice and spacious. No knocking elbows or tables with too many plates for us. They brought out a bunch of appetizers to share: baked clams, calamari, eggplant with mozzarella and sauce, and my personal favorite soft polenta with sausage ragu. Sooo good! Then I had the pasta matriciana with red sauce, bacon and onions, which I liked but was envious of those with the pesto sauce. Next time! ThenI had a tri-colored salad. For dinner I had a nicely cooked piece of salmon that came with potatoes, vegetables and a nice, i want to say mustard-like sauce. The cake was delicious but did not come from Brioso. I'm glad I was able to try this place, because I didn't know about it previously. I will definitely go back! read more

I always hate to give a negative review but this time I must. I often patron their rival across the street La Strada, but I figured I would give Brioso a try. I was very disappointed in the meal. Although the service was exceptional and the staff was well mannered, the overall experience was very bland. I was quite disappointed as my wife and I enjoy dinning out often and we really wanted to add this to the list. Bland and boring to say the least. You arrive to an arrogant owner/host who seats you when it is convenient for him. The waiters all speak with a phony Italian accent when they rattle off the specials of the day. You place your order and receive food along the same quality as a hospital cafeteria. My meal arrived cold, after about 45 minute wait. No flavor, just bland bland bland. No one else in my group liked their meal, either. A pathetic side of boiled potatoes and canned vegetables are pointlessly provided to the table. I would not feed that to my dog! Needless to say, I would not return to this joke of an establishment if someone paid for my meal. Shrill, annoying Christmas music. Pasta e Fagioli flavorful, with cotechino adding a nice touch. Swordfish entree of poor quality and overcooked. Vegetables on side clearly frozen, out of a back, and pale from overcooking. Grilled pork chop of poor quality and overcooked. Broccoli rape grayish green from overcooking. Complete lack of professionality and attention to detail, not to mention poor sourcing and corner cutting on the kitchen end. Not worth the trip out there. Totally unsuitable for anyone with any culinary standards whatsoever. Shameful, in fact. $130 for lunch for two, with $45 bottle of 2007 Colli Orientali del Friuli Sauvignon. read more

We wanted to go to LaStrada, but there was a 30 min wait. It was cold and we didn't feel like driving around looking for another place, so we ended up here. Big Mistake. The waiter was perfunctory, didn't come back to check on us, though the bus boy came by to fill the water. I order the sausage ragu and it was too salty. My husband ordered the veal chop. It was a big piece but with big bone, and he ordered it medium but it came out rare There were three tables with kids, and the some of the parents just let them run around. We wanted a nice, relaxing dinner, and screaming kids doesn't figure in to it. On top of which there was a fight (real, physical fight) in the kitchen For me, LaStrada has much better meat dishes, and T. Romano has great pasta and fish dishes. Brioso is within walking distance to my job and I'm glad it is! I've been to this place a few times with coworkers for lunch and I must say that I haven't had a bad meal yet. Never too busy during lunch and I know new york Pizza is famous, but their pizza is especially good. They have a nice little bar in the front and being that I've had good lunch experiences i decided to try it out for dinner. The dinner experience was also what I was expecting and was really delicious. We split a pizza and then I had a really nice piece of veal and my husband had orechiette pasta. everything was really tasty. The service was good and the waiter was nice. a little on the slow side but he kept apologizing as he also had had a very large table right next to us with young kids and elders (at least 12 people) and I think this was the reason for the delay. otherwise, I recommend and I will be returning soon. read more

Recently attended a bridal shower and was very impressed. I loved that since it's small place the whole place was used for the shower. Sometimes it's too much while there are other diners in a restaurant during a party. The tables were situated nicely and we had a lot of room without knocking in to surrounding tables. The decor is beautiful and doesn't need much if you host a party there. The waitstaff is very attentive, constantly checking and taking plates away. I loved the eggplant appetizers and baked clams. There was so much food before the main course that I only had a few bites of my chicken and decided to take it home. (It was really good the next day though.) The food is good, but the service was terrible. Talk about wanting more, we waited over 20 mins to get the wine list, then another 15 to place a drink order. Shouldnt be surprised that our waiter never came back to check on us once our food arrived and that I had to ask 3 different people for water before receiving some. We gave up and left before they offered us the dessert menu. For $75/ person, I'd expect more attentive staff. read more

I am never disappointed. My fav rest in Staten Island. Veal Milanese is awesome, pasta with zucchini is great and the Branzino is my favorite. It's made with white wine and so light. They will show you the fish whole before they fillet for you but since I'm a regular, I skip the show. read more

Brioso is easily one of the best restaurants on the island. Their risotto is always a sure bet. I once ordered short rib risotto that was phenomenal and took half of it home intending to take it to work the next day. I accidentally left it on the counter when I left for work. I was so heartbroken that I risked food poisoning and ate it anyway when I got home. It was THAT good (and I didn't get sick! Yay!) They often serve dishes with braised red abbage that is incredible. It's a little pricey so it's more of a special occasion place but it's a great restaurant. My ONLY suggestion is that it's very loud. I'd suggest they look into some sort of sound dampening devices but it's been like this for years so I'm sure they're fine with it the way it is. read more

Went for dinner with family. For appetizer I ordered the Garganelli Alla Norcia, Pasta with Prosciuotto, Peas, Black Truffle Cream Sauce and Baby Arugula. Very Good. For the main course I had the Veal Scallopine Al Limone, high quality Veal with Artichokes and Lemon over Spinach in a light sauce. Also Very Good. For dessert, enjoyed a Tartuffo. Food was good. I ordered gnocchi in bolognese. It was extremely overlooked. Gnocchi was mushy. I will be back but I'm a little disappointed.

AH- MAZ-ING!! Must go! Food is outrageous and service is phenomenal! Dress up and fork up the cash but an awesome place to eat!
