According to my husband, his dinner (shepherd's pie) was great! However, that is the ONLY good thing I can say. A member of our party ordered an appetizer of fried zucchini. It was drenched in oil. Had I known this, I would not have ordered my dinner of fish & chips! Even if food is bad at a restaurant, often times if the service is good, then we are willing to give that place another try. However, if both are bad, as in this case, we won't go back. My husband was still eating, in fact his hand was on the plate getting a fry, when the waitress came & asked if he were done so she could take the plate! He was so surprised by this, he just said yes.... Just a small example of the "service" we had that night. Had we not been with business associates, I would have asked to speak to a manager, but not wanting to waste the time, I thought I would simply send Britannia Arms an email. Went here at the end of the night with 2 of my girlfriends. We had a blast at the previous bar but decided to get one more drink. It was midnight when we walked in and this was the second chance I was giving this place but unfortunately the staff was rude and after we ordered our drink we were told we only had a few mins before we had to leave so we drank our drinks and got outta there. As we were sitting outside waiting for our Uber, we could see the staff inside, partying with some girls. Rude crappy bar, with bad drinks. Much better bars than this, not worth it. I came here with a group of people to eat breakfast. It was really packed because there was a car show going on. We put in our order and received our drinks fairly quickly. The food on the other hand took FOREVER.. I understand that it was really busy and that's why we were as patient as we were. There seemed to be 5 or 6 waitresses walking around but it didn't seem like that was even enough. We were helped by Lindsay and she was amazing. Probably the only reason why we didn't just get up and leave. She was really pleasant to deal with and tried everything she could to keep us content. Irene was also wonderful, quick and efficient. Some of us asked Lindsay if they could get their toast first because they were starving and just wanted any small part of their meal to hold them over until the breakfasts arrived and upon returning from asking the cooks, she said no. Does that mean the cooks in the back couldn't take a minute to throw toast out, scratch it off the ticket and continue on to help a party of six stay seated? I don't know. Maybe they were understaffed in the kitchen and not well prepared for the business the car show was going to bring in. I still don't know. There was talk of leaving when I got up to ask Lindsay how far along our order was. I knew she couldn't do anything about speeding it up and I didn't want her to. I just wanted to know if it was going to be sooner or later. She said sooner and I believed her, so we stayed. When our food finally arrived an hour and a half later, it was just okay. A couple of people didn't really like their food that much. My eggs were over done and toast was not toast. And, to be honest, everything turned out to be overpriced. $10-$14 breakfasts and not much food is definitely not what I want to wait an hour and a half for. After a highly disappointing experience (except for Lindsay and Irene) I tried to speak with the owner, Andy, just to let him know that something needs to be done in that kitchen because our wait was much longer than it should've been for overpriced, not-well-cooked breakfast foods on a busy day and that we were handled wonderfully by Lindsay and Irene. And his response was like a "what do you want me to do?" kind of shoulder shrug and a "thank you" about complimenting his staff. I wasn't looking for a free meal as we had already paid before I spoke with him. But the I-don't-care attitude portrayed by the owner makes me never want to come back here or suggest going here to anyone. I went there yesterday there was a art and wine festival that might be the reason why it was so packed at the restaurant. First there was no hostess to seat us. We found table not cleaned and we had to get our own menus. We had a long wait to even have someone notice us and clean our table. We finally our server took our order burgers and soda and water. Took a long time just to get our drinks. We finally got our food it was good. Now to get our bill was another issue. I feel the place was packed for how small the place was that there was some code violations. If the inspector was out it would close place down. Management should monitor how many people they should let in. read more

Not a big fan of this place. The servers are all nice but the owner is rude and unpleasant, he seems to always be there too. Most of the food is greasy and mushy, maybe they need to change the oil in the fryer more often or something. Horrible experience. My family came to visit and we decided to try it Place was not busy (weekday). After 15 minutes the waitress who had only taken our drink orders came to apologize saying the bartender will get our drinks when he's done talking. Looked over to the bar. He looked loaded and was making no attempt to pour beer or basically do his job. The waitress seemed stuck in a bad situation and had no clue what to do ( like maybe at least take our food order?) We left and went to the one in aptos which is always great. Terrible ambiance at the capitola one if you are expecting a proper pub vibe. Its like a halfhearted attempt at a sports bar. Went into the restaurant and ordered a pulled pork sandwich with fries. The fries were ok, but the pulled pork sandwich was HORRIBLE. mashed up meat with BBQ sauce and wilted old lettuce on a hoagie bun. Should have just made one myself as it would have been much more enjoyable. read more

We went there last night for karaoke and drinks, the staff was great, I'm pregnant so I wasn't a big spender but I still felt I got the attention I needed in my group of 8+ women. If it weren't for the awful karaoke experience this review would be much better. We specifically went there because Coasters at the Boardwalk had a band rather than karaoke, we showed up a bit before 9 o'clock, the pub was pretty empty at that point, so we were optimistic that we'd be able to sing a bit before the crowds came in. The women in charge of karaoke (Eve and Liz) had difficulties setting up, so even though we got there before 9 the singing didn't start until after 10 (they said it was because there was a movie going on by the beach, but even after the movie ended it took them a while to actually get the singing started), and when it did start there was 1 song of karaoke to every 2 or 3 songs she played in between for people to dance to. While all of that is pretty irritating to a group of women who just wanted to get together to sing, the worst part was the fact that as people walked in and submitted songs, they got put on top of the stack of singers. So, as I said before, while we showed up early and submitted our songs, the people showing up at 10:30/11:00 got put ahead of us, that is not how it should work! Overall, I spent 2.5 to 3 hours there, during which our group of 8 to 13 (we had people coming and going) got to sing 4 songs, and people who showed up hours after us got to sing several songs each. When somebody from our group tried to ask Eve and Liz how their system worked, she was shunted aside and told that she didn't get to dictate how this worked. read more

We came here for lunch during the Begonia Festival weekend (labor day weekend). It was one of the few places in the area that was dog friendly, so we decided to try it. We split the fish and chips. Pros: 1. Food was hot when it finally came out 2. Dog Friendly 3. Fries were good Cons: 1. Food took FOREVER to come -- I think we must have waited 45 minutes, which seems ridiculous for fish and chips. 2. We have been going here for years and had the worst service today ever from a server by the name of Katie. She was super rude and actually back talked to me in front of my son and his friend. The first incident was when she overcharged us $2.50 each for 2 kids drinks which is $5.00. She said I am not going to redo the bill over a few dollars and slapped money down on the table out of her pocket. Um, $5.00 is more than a few dollars and even if charge .50 over you should redo the bill. She was so rude about it. Second incident was when I wasn't ready to give her the signed copy of the receipt and then she said "Ok, my god" and walked away. So the food was OK, except both my wife and I got some fish bones in our Fish and Chips. When we told the waitress , who BTW told us she was the owner ( did this place change ownership recently? ), she wasn't too apologetic. We were told that they have no control over it. Now what does that mean? Does it mean it's not freshly battered fish and it comes in frozen? If it is fresh than how can you not have any control over it? In Capitola for the week and ate here a couple of times with the wife and guests. The chicken pot pie is very flavorful. Medium rare on the steak sandwich is more like rare so order up if ordering meat. Friendly service, lots of TV's and great selection of brew. read more

Been here before and had a good experience, showed up on a Wed to listen to music with dinner. Waitress was not very nice when I asked to eat on the patio, she wasn't as attentive to me as she was to other customers ( I was eating alone). I ordered the fish & chips, they were terrible, the fish was soggy and so oily it left puddles of oil on the plate. It didn't taste like anything, just grease. The fries were overcooked and bland, the coleslaw tasted terrible. I felt the food was overpriced. If you go, do not order anything deep fried, it's gross. read more

I had a terrible experience here today. My sisters and I decided to take our Mom for lunch on the beach, her favorite beach. We ordered drinks first; for me, a Guinness, my favorite. Mom, an iced tea. I was served a terribly flat Guinness, little to no head and dull tasting. Mom was never offered a refill, in fact, our waitress reached over her empty glass to set down the bill. To make that offense worse, a couple newly seated at a nearby tale were given refills back to back then the pitchers of tea and water were left with them for them to help themselves. Of the four of us, three asked for waters, only two got them, one in a plastic cup. My sister's "plain" burger was brought with all the trimmings and had to be taken back. The rest of our food was great, especially the fish and chips, the portion was huge. I was absolutely willing to discuss what was wrong with having flat beer on my tab with the responsible party, until the bartender poured a bit, sipped some Guinness and handed me the same glass expecting me to drink. He then handed the same glass to a regular customer and she drank the rest, declaring the Guinness just right. I've read that soap residue will cause the head to dissolve, and results in a flat taste, and this would explain why regulars think it tastes normal, but i could not tolerate it. He took the flat beer off my tab with much grumbling and was completely unprofessional about the whole thing. read more

Having kids poses some difficulties when going to restaurants, so this was a good choice. we sat in the patio and enjoyed watching the sandy surfers wash off nearby. we had beer, kids had shirley temples, we sat in the shade, the waitress was good (knew what she was doing, serious, no-nonsense) and helpful, all was great. my husband had his favorite, the english pasty, and shared a burger (cheese and bacon) with my 10 yr old. it was so good! I ordered a quesadilla for my toddler and shared it all around and everyone ate happily. the food was nice, the fish and chips are greasy, but tasted good with the vinegar, the fries were good, the coleslaw is yummy, and overall, the time spent with friends and family in a nice setting with non-judgmental waitresses was excellent... read more

This the first time that I have read the reviews on the Brit I am flabbergasted. I moved to the area in January and have been to the Brit at least a dozen time I have nothing but top class service from all of the staff. I love their pint of Bass. The food is also pretty good. This is one of our favorite lunch hangouts! Service is great, and the food is yummy! Alexis has waited on us many times; she is fantastic! A couple of weeks ago, we had the 4 piece Moby Brit with friends (fish/chips), and the other day, we had a Burger with Fish and Chips.
