Came here with Tony for lunch a few times now. Steak and salad. Awesome. Came here for appetizers and glass of wine a few times, too. Again, awesome. The service is top-notch, regardless of whether you're sitting down for a full meal or stopping in for a quick bite. The service is great, and the atmosphere is relaxing - exactly what you need. Gary, the manager, has totally transformed this place. His focus on the food quality has made a great difference. He knows the restaurant business. Wow, I am sad to see some bad reviews - I just moved here and I love this place (maybe because I come by myself and sit at the bar). George and John Paul and Judith and Angel and Lourdes (at lucnch) are great and all the other bartenders/waiters/waitresses I have dealt with are friendly, efficient and MOST IMPORTANT for me accommodating to my usual menu alterations. They have a great PR guy and they are really trying to come up with fun themes etc - I think Motown Mondays - is fantastic - the place is packed - maybe when you go in you can ask about the Motown "Meltdown" story - it is fun! I am trying to get them to do Tapas Tuesday and they seem open to all suggestions/feedback. I know they read yelp. I am a new fan of Motown Mondays!!! The group, Pure Ecstacy (I think) is amazing! They sang a variety of hits that everyone in the restaurant was definitely grooving too! Many even got up to dance while others continued eating. The food was very good. I had the steak frites, large portion and the meat was cooked to order. I tried my sisters parpadelle with a beef ragu. Man, the beef was sooooo tender! The sauce had very good flavor as well. I didn't get a chance to try my mom's trout as she, apparently, inhaled it. My dad ordered the NY strip. It didn't come with anything...no salad, potatoes, etc. So the steak ends up being quite costly after adding on the traditional steak sides (potatoes and maybe creamed spinach). Dad wasn't too impressed with the steak, said it was a bit tough and gristly For dessert we ordered the NY style cheesecake and the baked alaska. Both where so good! I couldn't keep my fork away from the cheesecake. I don't know if it really is NY style, but it was goood! This place is definitely a splurge. Cocktails averaged $10 for a relatively small drink. Most entrees are about $20. And there is a "entertainment fee" of $5 per person. I would no doubt return on a Monday, as well as other days. The Sinatra day sounds like fun. read more

A really fun place, no pretensions, good food, attentive and proper service. A few rough edges (served the martinis backwards so I got the Hendricks and my husband got the Stoli) but no deal-breakers. Very welcoming front of house, and a delightful, comfort-food kitchen. We were walk-ins 7:30 on a Tuesday night in full-swing December party season. The place was jammed; even so we were seated at a good table in under 5 minutes. We were among an eclectic crowd - families, co-workers, couples, guys-night-out, you name it. The room is high-ceilinged and a little noisy, laced with live music from a jazz guy playing perched in a high balcony. The seasonal decor was ... extensive. Maybe a little over-the-top, but clearly heartfelt. There's some sort of mezzanine and maybe an upstairs room? I was too hungry to explore, so I'm not sure what was happening upstairs Service was prompt, well-paced, and accommodating. I see from other reviews that not everyone has had great luck here - but we had no complaints at all beyond the martini switcheroo and a premature attempt at taking my not-yet-finished plate (which happens to me all the time since I tend to take my time eating). I'd give the servers a 7 or 8 on the 1 - 10 scale. The food was very good. Wedge salad was crisp and properly dressed. The prime rib was excellent, tender and rare. Side veggies were ok, nothing very exciting but at least not overcooked. Lamb shanks were just terrific, falling off the bone and beautifully seasoned. Garlic mashed potatoes were better than average, as were the frites. Dessert menu wasn't very interesting (no chocolate?! I thought that was illegal!) so we skipped it. With a round of martinis, two salads, two glasses of wine, and two entrees, we made it out for $125 including a generous tip. Since Burlingame is a bit of a schlep, I'm not sure when we'll be back. Incredible food, and even better service! Broadway Grill just hosted our company Christmas party, and everything was wonderful! The food was so amazing, especially the European rye bread slices. There was a band playing downstairs which only exemplified the "Christmas spirit," and made our dinner a more memorable experience. Went for Easter brunch 11am. We were asked by male host if we can leave by 1pm. Brought to a very crowded table that when you stand you hit the person behind. Requested to have empty booth table (one of many) but was told by same host not possible. "All tables are timed. I can not transfer you." Web site says buffet or a la carte is possible. They had a very limited a la carte menu to force you to go for $38 buffet. Still ordered from the menu since we were not in the mood for a big meal. We had 2 very dry omelettes with small bits of ham, dry burger, dry french dip sandwich and 2 coffees. Precooked and microwave came to mind. Total bill with tip $70!!! BTW, my friend and I saw a waiter transferring pancakes and waffles on a plate with bare hands. I wonder where these hands came from. We made the right decision to skip the buffet! This place totally deserves a higher average rating(currently at 3 stars) than it has, BUT, I can see why it is where it is and I'll cover why I say that. Came here on a Tuesday night around 630 with my parents for my birthday. Our server was very kind and never needed to be reminded about anything. By 7pm, the place is about 75% full, not bad for a Tuesday night. As a side note, checking in on your smartphone can get you 10% off the bill (on Monday's via Yelp) and a free flourless chocolate cake (newbie check in via Foursquare). For appetizers, we got the Bacon Wrapped Scallops and the Ceviche. The scallops were cooked perfectly and had a wonderful sear. The apricot relish proved to be a great compliment to the dish and helped bring out the sweetness in the scallops that often times can be dominated by the bacon. The scallops came on a bed of arugula and beets, which also helped mitigate the bacon and really made the scallops the star on the plate. For our mains, we got the prime rib, filet mignon and cajun ribeye. Here's where a good restaurant gets differentiated from a great restaurant. You must be able to consistently put out great dishes. Everything was ordered medium rare, and while the ribeye and prime rib were delivered perfectly, the filet mignon was medium well, borderline well done. It was replaced within minutes with an outstanding medium rare, but something like this should not happen. It's worth mentioning that the mac and cheese side was good, but nothing to write home about. The fries are actually cajun fries and fried perfectly, so definitely opt for this if you did not order a la carte. The creamed spinach tasted good, but was more soupy than creamy. The complimentary bread balls are pretty good, so keep asking for plenty! I would not mind returning, but I'll decide after I try Broadway Prime. Very upset. It was my first time in any restaurant in the US when I moved here. A lady must assumed I was an tourist or something and charged me $49 dollars of tip, without even asking me! When I saw the receipt I went looking for her, but guess what? She was gone! Dishonest. It was a pleasant surprise to find the Broadway Grill in Burlingame. Its a great looking building, and the interior is open and airy on warm mornings. The brunch menu included all of the usual suspects: eggs, nicely seasoned potatoes, waffles, pancakes, and various breakfast stables. We kept it fairly simple this morning and were impressed by the quality. The regular pancakes were a little bit better than Stacks or the Original Pancake House - our points of reference. The blueberry waffles were also better than most other places, easily. The only ding I'd give on the food at all was the plating; the arrangements on the plates could have been more attractive, but that's obviously not a big deal. Some crazy yelper seemed really concerned about the prices here. Dinner might be expensive (I don't know, I didn't see the dinner menu), but brunch was definitely not expensive. The total for 4 breakfasts and 3 juices was $41. That's a bargain, cheaper than Stacks and some other local joints. Broadway Grill should be added to your weekend repertoire. read more

Place looks great, and generally has quality (though extremely tame) live music. It's a popular, pricy and noisy place, but it's fun in an over-30 way. Not a place for the young crowd. My favorite item on the menu is the "twice-cooked prime rib"--it's so amazingly good that I no longer order anything else there, and this has thus become a one-dish restaurant for me. I go when I want that dish, and stay away otherwise. [Update: we've now taken guests there many times, and the standout dish remains the Twice-Cooked Prime Rib. Don't get the single-cooked. This place is horrible. I went with a party of three - we all ordered steak. Nothing was cooked correctly, and I mean nothing... this steaks, the side dishes... My husbands steak was so burnt he couldn't eat it. I tasted it and had to spit it out. This place looks really nice from the outside (and it's walking distance from my house), I really wanted to like it - but it was one of the worst places I've eaten at in a very long time. (Not to mention that it is completely overpriced) I have to say I am shocked by the positive reviews posted on yelp. I feel really sorry for the owners of this place, I hope they revamp the menu and improve food quality. This place has potential, but fails to really achieve it. I think that for late night jazz it might be outstanding, though. We went for a Sunday Brunch last week to spend some time catching up with some friends. The foot was really mediocre, so 2-3 stars for that (it was not terrible). The service was OK, but... the volume of the band was ridiculously loud. It was nice to have a little jazz being played live for brunch, but no matter how good the tunes, if it is so loud that you literally cannot hear the other people at the table, then it's a nightclub...not a restaurant. They were really not willing to turn down the music either. If you are looking for place to hear some music, though, say late at night, this place would be a four star option (not 5 because the food is not that good). It has a cool jazz stage up above the seating and I think for checking out some music (not sure about their hours), it would be a lot of fun. read more

I've been here twice and I really like the place. I came here once on Dean Martin night, and a second time on Motown night. The performers are great! They are really interactive with the customers and it's a lot of fun. I really like the food as well, but it is very expensive. My favorite is the crab mac and cheese and the bread pudding. He got medium rare, the cut is very thin and flat, and cooked right, again, hard to eat... I thought it was because my husbands age... Then I realized that he is only 34... Broadway Grill is under new ownership and we are so happy to try their new menu. Our meal was very good. The beet salad was good size and my husband and I split it. Filet Mignon was done perfectly and I especially enjoyed the dipping sauce they served with it. We got a side of mushrooms and french fries too. The french fries were especially delicious. The service was very attentive and friendly. Their outdoor seating is very comfortable and spaced out. We really enjoyed the Strawberry-Banana Crepe for dessert. I'm giving this place 1 star because they at least have electricity. Holy smokes this place needs a new restauranteur to take over ASAP. Been in the neighborhood for 3 years and while it's always been overpriced and mehh, since reopening (was closed for 6 months and definitely should have used that time to rework EVERYTHING) it's somehow managed to get even worse. I use Yelp almost every day and this is my first Yelp review ever if that says anything. I've tried Broadway Grill a few times, each time thinking that MAYBE my experience will change. After the 4th time, I vowed not to go there ever again. I've been to Broadway Grill for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Because I live around the corner, it's almost too easy to get there, but there are a dozen more restaurants and eateries on Broadway that are much better! Service is ALWAYS poor. Service is slow, even when it is not busy, and each time I've dined, the servers have forgotten something or messed up my bill. When I politely remind them of the error, they never apologize, but grunt angrily as if I've just inconvenienced them. Atmosphere- The crowd is 50-60s in age. (My father-in-law commented that the only people who enjoy the food are old enough to not have any taste buds.) It's annoyingly loud with the music at night and the decorations are gaudy and WAY over the top. Food- overpriced, not rich in flavor, and mediocre at best. Price- If the prices were lower, I'd give this place 2 stars, but considering that I can't order a simple club sandwich at lunch for under $10, it gets 1 star. Overall- Take it from a local; go elsewhere along Broadway for better eats! read more

After hearing rave reviews of the Broadway Grill on Yelp, I'm afraid I'll have to slam them with a one star review, and if that maybe less. I took one of my close friends into this place, both being first-time diners at the Broadway Grill. I have lived in Burlingame for several years and seen quite a few people come in and out of this place. We came in here on a Saturday afternoon very few people were dining in the restaurant (maybe that was a sign) and there was a jazz band playing upstairs which was cool. We placed our drink orders and got them in ten minutes which was kind of shocking, considering the fact that they were not busy whatsoever. I ordered the Prime Rib Sandwich and so did my friend. The quality of the meat was awful, it was very dry and overcooked. My salad came with Anchovies and I'm allergic to them so I had to pick them off of my salad which was annoying, really annoying. Notified the server that the meat was overcooked and not fresh, he offered to replace them, but I figured what was that going to do, what do you have "fresher" meat in the back? I doubt it! I think the only reason why he was offering a replacement was because he knew he wasn't going to get tipped. What a bastard! The bill came, no adjustment or comp on anything. It didn't seem like they really cared about the fact that their food tastes terrible. I then went on line today (9/21/2010) three days after and submitted a web comment that the food was not very good and neither was the service. "Gary" asked me to call him at the restaurant, and I spoke with him for no more than 30 seconds, he gave me the typical " don't have your receipt, nothing I can do" type attitude. At that time no additional offer of compensation was offered just a "Thanks for your Feedback" type response. You can conclude that Mom and Pop restaurants like this are starting to fail rather quickly. If this would have happened at a fancy steak place such as Morton's in SF, the manager would have immediately came over and maybe comp a dish or drink. "Gary" proceeded to ramble about how there's nothing he could do with out the receipt even though I had a copy of the charge from AM-EX. Very interesting Gary, very interesting. My wife and I met some friends at the Broadway Grill for dinner on St. Patrick's Day. While I love the vine of this place, the food was less than impressive. My buddy and I had the Ribs. My buddy even asked if they were the fall off the bone kind and the waitress said they were definitely tender and fall off the bone. Not only were they not fall off the bone, they were actually some of the driest, toughest ribs I'd ever had. So I figured I'd just reach over and steal from my wife's plate of chicken saltimbocca. It too was.....terrible. I'm assuming it was just a bad night in the kitchen. Maybe the cooks had to many Guinnesses - and I can't blame them for that. The good news is that everyone there was really pleasant. The band was even playing upstairs and while they are not going to be confused for a Celtic Band, I really appreciated that they tried some Irish tunes, including their version of Danny Boy. I'm defiantly going to give it another shot. I sure hope my food experinece was an anomaly. There are not enough places around that have good live music, jazz brunches and pictures of Marilyn Monroe on the walls. read more

From the service to the food, the whole experience was horrible. The wait staff was so incredibly rude. It took 15 minutes for someone to come to our table and take our order, and another 45 minutes to get our food. No one ever came by so see if we needed anything, to explain the delay, or even to fill our water. The lamb chops I ordered we're supposed to be medium rare, they came out well done and cold, as were the potatoes and vegetables. My son ordered filet mignon medium rare, it didn't look like a filet to me, and was cooked closer to medium well. I flagged down someone and told them to take back the lamb chops, the waitress later came by and asked if I wanted anything else. I told her, whatever is fast, I ordered I chicken Caesar salad. After another 15-20 minutes I was trying to flag someone down to just bring the check, when this 'salad' arrived. It was horrible, I put it to the side, and asked for the check. This restaurants only saving grace: A women came to our table (first time I saw her all evening) and told us she understands we had a bad experience and she apologized. She actually picked up our whole check. I think she needs to teach her whole staff how to treat their customers. She said she hopes we give the restaurant another chance. As much as I appreciated HER gesture, I did not appreciate being treated the way we were treated. I will not be back. Sorry. read more

WOW, this place is amazing. Food is great! Service is amazing! Atmosphere is fun and exciting. Definitely need to try this place. Weekends they have live music and it really adds to the occasion. Since we were a large party, we did have a reservation and were seated quickly. Drink order was taken fairly fast, but we waited a long time to get them. Once received, they were good. Our waited took our order, including a special order from the lone vegan in the group, and then we waited. And waited. And waited. Food took forever. Some entrees were cold, one prime rib was tough - and when we did nail down our waiter to tell him, a shrug was the answer that we received. A few weeks ago I was invited out to dinner with some friends who already had reservations here. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The service was great and the food was excellent. Although the description for this place says "Casual" I am going to disagree. This is, after all, Burlingame, where the average household income is well into six figures. People still come in hoodies, converse, and airtight jeans, but the wait staff is very polished with white shirts and vests. The dishes will cost you $25-35 a plate, and they do serve liquor and have a full bar. I ordered a prime rib and was happy with it. They gave me a huge knife which I could use to kill somebody. Overall, I was satisfied (as in ho-hum) with the service. We had a table for seven, and asked for separate checks. They said it could only be split two ways, to which we called bullshit and laziness. Oh, and we had to light the candles at the table with our own cigarette lighter. Really loved the live entertainment. The jazzy singer knew several languages and did some songs in Portuguese. It added a lot to the ambiance, though it was kind of strange that they constantly dimmed and brightened the lights. read more

First time to the Broadway Grill and overall a good experience. The building reminds me of an old bank or store with a bit of history. Lighting inside has a tint to it. Tonight was jazz night. The musician and singer was in a balcony area on the second floor overlooking the room. Nice to go to a place with live music :) Service was good. Food was excellent. Three of us shared smoked trout salad, harvest squash risotto, 16 oz bone-in rib eye cooked medium, and Neapolitan baked Alaska. Bill was low 80s plus dollars. The rib eye was pretty pink but very juicy. The baked Alaska was very good :) If you are in the neighborhood, definitely go check them out. read more

I've been wanting to dine at Broadway Grill for a long time (6 years to be exact). Living a few blocks away now, my partner and I went to check it out. Very cool building. I believe it used to be a bank. The lighting is soft, in my opinion and seating was very comfortable, as we got a nice big booth. It was pretty quiet when we arrived. Maybe 10 people, a lot at the bar. And within 20 minutes, the place was packed.. and now I know why. We had delicious cocktails (melon mule for him and a mango margarita for me). His was little on the strong side but he didn't mind. We ordered the chicken wings for an appetizer and boy were they delicious. I'm not a fan of wings but these are something special. They have a very simple sauce on it that isn't too spicy and their ranch dressing for the dipping makes it even better. He ordered a rigatoni dish which was large in size with a delicious creamy red sauce. I had the steak frites for my entree and it was delicious. New York steak with chimichurri sauce and the french fries with the Roquefort chive bechamel (which there could have been more of bc it was so good). We ended the night with the creme brûlée and it was yummy. Despite the mixed reviews, I would definitely go back for more. read more

Okay, this place does need a bit of a knockdown rating, hopefully it'll whip it into shape. They weren't the worst in the world, but have a lot to do to be an average place. We went for Mother's day brunch. One problem with this restaurant is the damn idiot clientele. I understand bringing flowers to mom, but don't bring a 4 ft high potted plant with a 3 ft diameter planter. Or large boxed presents from Amazon.com still unopened with styrofoam peanuts inside. You are f**king losers who make this experience unbearable. What's good? The jazz trio was tight, and not overwhelmingly loud, just right. Also good was the fact that adults could order the buffet without having our 2 year old also pay $12 for the buffet. We were going to order a grilled cheese for him, but the waiter just said to grab a little from the buffet for him, no charge (not that he ate much anyways). The mediocre? What you get for the price... This is my first San Francisco brunch so maybe EVERYTHING is overpriced... and I guess you have to pay for the band... but I've been to the Banff Springs sunday (and mother's day) brunches, as well as one in the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City, for about the same price, and you get about 500% less selection and quality here. The only saving grace was the king crab legs, which were pretty good, as well as the ceviche salad. Otherwise, overcooked bacon, sausage, waffles, french toast and pancakes you can get at Denny's for $5. Our 2 year old did like the pesto pasta, but the ribs were kind of disgusting chewy. And crappy small-serving desserts. We didn't get offered coffee, and there were also no breads. The crappy- they tried to seat us at the crappy one table they have out front, without asking... Okay- 1st of all, you should mention something when I made the reservation if you were thinking about it... 2ndly, if you're going to do it, ask first if we'd be okay with it... The waitress just started walking outside, and I was inside thinking "WTF???" We did get seated upstairs and it was okay... but anyone remember "The Golden Child" with Eddie Murphy and the narrow stairs? Only the chosen one can get the dagger. Only someone with a narrow butt can get down these stairs. I have a narrow butt, therefore I will get the dagger. Yeah, the stairs to the upper lever were 1-person only... fortunately most people were polite enough to alternate. So there you have it... Things that really make it unique are the live music that they have on weekends and some other nights. Came here last Saturday for brunch and had the buffet. Five stars for George at the bar alone! The bar isn't big but my glass of wine sure was. Our dinner was tasty. The birthday boy had mac and cheese with crab. Poppy had a salad with smoked trout, avocado and pink grapefruit. Yummy. Assorted sides of mac and cheese and sweet potato fries were delicious. The starter salads were normal nothing outstanding. Dessert was fine, again nothing to write home about. Rosemary garlic rolls to start are so good that even the gluten free girl at the table was tempted. Unfortunately we didn't get a second basket. I can't be sure why this place hasn't received better reviews. We came here for dinner with my Dad who was in town for work. It was a Wednesday night, and I randomly picked Broadway Grill. I was hesitant, due to the fair reviews. But, our entire group had a great time & thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The filet was great, as was the bassa & lamb barbacoa. Service was great, as was the ambiance. There was live entertainment which seemed to entertain the 65+ crowd at the table next to us quite a bit. It was cheesy but super fun! We just went to Broadway Grill for brunch last weekend and were blown away by the open, airy ambiance, the big-hearted vibe, and the flavor-packed plates. The mushroom ravioli was incredible - comfort, complication and creamy-ness all coming together in the best possible way. My kids enthusiastically gobbled their pancakes and the beet salad did not disappoint either. If you haven't been there RECENTLY, you don't know what you're missing. read more

Hit and miss. I have had some seriously good meals here (French dip sandwich) and some pretty mediocre. They seem to have a bit of an identity crisis -- are they a neighborhood restaurant? For family gatherings? For nights on the town? A breakfast joint? I'm not really sure what they are. The good: the atmosphere is nicer than you would expect from the moderate menu prices--white tablecloths, wood booths, live music--and they are nice to kids. The bad: service is without fail way too slow and of questionable professionalism. I really want this place to succeed, because it's just what the neighborhood needs, but they do need to step up their game. read more
