**3.75 First time in. Folks were friendly inside, and sat me right away. There's plenty of seating with a few tvs throughout for anyone interested in the daily sports updates. I ordered the Pit-masters sandwich, which was pulled pork topped with sliced brisket and bbq sauce on a sesame seed bun. It's was a large sandwich at a great price point. Brunswick stew was my side and was perfect on this cold day. A really good stew. I didn't get much smoke, if any, from the bbq sandwich. I've got to have that smoke flavor imparted into the meat to really rave about it. It was tender and plentiful, though. Solid spot.

To get the rating out of the way, I give it a 2.5 but I bumped it to 3 due to the experiences and comments of my fellow diners. Let's start with the good: The restaurant had a classic BBQ style ambiance befitting of a well loved establishment, and, like almost every restaurant I have been to in Virginia, the staff were very nice and accommodating! So why this ranking? To begin, Brock's had a buffet that contained a few things that I was looking to order, but I am typically against judging a restaurant based on a buffet as you never know how fresh the food really is. Thus, I ordered a pulled pork platter with coleslaw and Mac-n-cheese. Upon first bite of the pulled pork, I felt betrayed. I opted to not order from the buffet to see them at their best, but the meat was lukewarm bordering towards cold. While the taste was decent, it felt as if it might have been pulled from the buffet. The mac-n-cheese was also disappointing, also being lukewarm but slightly warmer than the meat, it had what I can only describe as clumps of cheese sauce surrounding near barren noodles. The saving grace for me was the coleslaw. Pretty solid. Some of my fellow diners enjoyed their food more than others. The grilled chicken Caesar salad was "mediocre," the salad loaded with croutons. The Brisket platter (not pictured) was (in a slightly positive tone) "ok." Mind you, it appeared that the brisket slices had been thrown on a grill... hmmmm. And finally, the pulled pork sliders (also not pictured) were "good." This establishment is a middle ground, it's not bad, but it's not good. If the food was warm, it'd have a better grade. But overall, the best part was the price, my pulled pork platter clocked in at $12 a very solid and respectable price for a BBQ establishment! Maybe they had an off day. While I personally can't endorse Brock's, I am not opposed to trying them again and possibly revisiting this review in the future.

This is the hair after I pulled it out of the chicken.

I went here for lunch last Wendsday. I got the buffet and got fried chicken livers and sides. There was a foot long hair fried into one of the chicken livers. Needless to say I wasn't hungry anymore. So showed the waitress, she just gave me my check. And they made me pay full price even though I hadn't eaten but one bite of their BBQ, when I saw the hair, due to their poor hygiene in the kitchen! DO NOT EAT HERE. And what they call BBQ is super finely chopped pork parts that taste like they were cooked in a Crock Pot. No smoke or anything. This place is disgusting!!! Poor Hygiene in the kitchen, and garbage food, and then expect you to pay for the garbage!!! I have pictures I'm sending to the health department. Clean up your act!

The pulled pork platter, my go to meal here, is always such generous helpings. The food is good and I have to avoid the buffet cause I will over indulge myself. The staff is always so friendly and it feels like everyone knows everyone in there. Plenty of seating always and always a good bit of conversation going on.

Met friend for dinner here and had a good time. We all chose to enjoy the buffet. Pulled pork, fried chicken, some sort of beef in sauce, mashed potatoes, gravy and salad fixings and more. It was good, not great. A little bland and I think next time, I would choose to order off the menu. Service was excellent. First time at Brock's. I didn't opt for the Buffet so we ordered from the menu. We were seated promptly and received our food in a timely manner. My wife had the sliced pork and I had Fried Clam strips. Her pork was very moist and seasoned well. My clam strips were perfect. I cannot find clams on any menu around this area so I was excited to have them at Brock's. I was told they have the clams on the Wednesday dinner Buffet. I shall return.

Omg buffet was awesome and if the buffet taste that good I can only imagine what a meal made just for you would taste like. Met Pat our server and Kelly host both very awesome people excellent job! Chicken was very good,chicken livers best I have had in years, mashed and Garvey delicious and they say the buffet changes daily. The place is one of the cleanest restaurants I have seen in years. Pudding for dessert was very good too. Very pleased we stopped and can't wait to go back.

This BAR BEE Q was SOOOO GOOD! Mind you, I have sampled my share of the Q and this ranks up there at the top! Now remember this VA Girl is referring to what most call "pulled pork" when she says BBQ. Anyway, we used Brock's catering menu for our annual B-day Bash; the first thing that impressed me was the customer service--felt very welcome just walking in. We got the BBQ to feed 50, and it included beams, slaw and potato salad, buns, plates and utensils!! Plus 3 bottles of sauce. The BBQ was so flavorful even without the sauce-- it is a vinegar based flavor and works deliciously well with the slaw and their special sauce!! Mmm Mmm Good! If you love a vinegar base but with a lot more flavors check this place out!! Will have to go back and try the ribs. Stay Tuned! read more

The food is great and the service was wonderful. The meat was not cooked until crunchy which is the way I like it. To me, other than the BBQ has two other major tests. First is the coleslaw. It was creamy with the right amount of vinegar and sugar. They get four and a half stars for it. The next is baked beans. They were light with the right amount of sweet and tangy. Side items such as hush puppies were spot on. Most of all the prices were totally in line. read more

I was really craving bbq so I stopped by Brocks & got the buffet. The waitstaff was very nice but the bbq was fairly cold & really bland. There was only 3 sauces, 1 of which was Texas Pete so no real selection of anything to add flavor to it. The rest of the buffet was obviously standard foodservice fare. I want my $10.00 back :( read more

Tried this place for the first time tonight-we like it. Had the buffet, the pulled pork was delicious-they can bring you a sweet sauce if you like-the tables have vinegar based sauce. I enjoyed all the "fixins", including the coleslaw, potato salad, and squash. We finished with the cobbler-the fruit part is great, the pastry is not a fluffy pie crust, but a soggy puff pastry maybe? Will definitely be returning:) Its not fancy food, but a very pleasant experience overall. read more

Let me start off by saying this place is a gem. The service is great and the food is even better. I had the Memphis style ribs which were amazing the sauce is a perfect pairing. For sides I had macaroni and cheese that is home made and string beans both were excellent. On another note the hushpuppies are out of this world. If you are looking for a good BBQ joint this is the spot. read more

Ate lunch here and surprisingly didn't get any BBQ - maybe that's where we went wrong. Chicken tenders were very greasy and it looked like they were cooked twice. Egads! We had chicken salad sandwiches and baked beans that both tasted like they were straight out of a can. Very disappointed. read more

we stopped by for lunch and what a surprise! We (party of 6) all had the buffet. Very good assortment of meats and veggies. The BBQ and country fried steak was outstanding! Steak was fork tender, and the BBQ was smoky. Only downside for me was the sauce They have a mustard based sauce, so if that works for you, you will love it. The veggies tasted like they were cooked all day! The collards were my personal favorite, being a good old Georgia boy. Hushpuppies, cornbread and rolls round out an EXCELLENT meal! Ugh. I ordered something off the menu for a change, only for it to be ruined. I ordered the two chili dogs with fries, only to find out, It was covered in human hair! 6 whole long hairs were in the chili on top and the food tasted horrible. The green beans tasted like dirty socks (How do you mess up canned green beans?) and the other food was a greasy mess. Do not visit. Not worth the gas to get there. read more

Soooo disappointed just ate here today and i should have known better because we were the only two going to the buffet during our visit now my stomach hurts. Shrimp batter was half cooked on the shrimp, the waitress was nice to bring me some more from the back but then the chopped bbq chicken was cold. The only thing i enjoyed was the sweet tea which i drink plenty of in order to get full. Two more customers came in while we were leaving and ordered the buffet- I wanted to warn them to run dont walk away. I am a very fair person and this buffet sucks it really does - the mac and cheese tasted very old and reheated. I wanted to ask for my money back but i tried my darnedest to find something from the buffet that was worth paying for this is the reason for the 2 stars. my nephew had a bacon cheeseburger from the menu and he said it was good but my dinner was awful. If it wasnt for the hood sweet tea i would have given them 1 star instead of two. I usually take pictures of food thats good and enjoyable so no pics for this review read more

Took my mom here to eat, I had never been, and we were both VERY satisfied. The BBQ and sauce was amazing, and the Brunswick stew hit the spot. Our waitress was very polite, kept my glass of tea filled and cleared empty dishes promptly. The cashier was also very nice. I am definitely going back for more. read more

If you are looking for a nice piece of good ol' country meat DO NOT come here. This place is not what I expected from all the pictures I saw it looked amazing. But when I got there I ordered a half a rack of St. Louis Style Wet Ribs. When they cam it looked great but when I bit into it was hard, when you order ribs you usually are getting a nice juicy, soft, tender piece of meat. But with this rib it tasted like some crap. When I get ribs I usually want to think hmm hm hmm in my head. I dont know if it was just this rack but I dont plan on coming back here. read more

In Chester, VA you either like Brocks or you like Sibley's. I am not a BBQ aficionado so they both taste the same to me. I do prefer Brock's because they have a daily buffet that is pretty good so I always get it. The buffet usually has BBQ, fried seafood, potatoes, corn, green beans, etc with soup and salad. I will say that the restaurant could use a facelift. read more

it must have been an off night for the cook. the mac and cheese had "no cheese" going thru it at all. the green beans were mushy, the meat had no taste.... and the vanilla milk shake was watery. they could have done a better job than this. im sorry there are so many other places out t here to spend that kind of money at where you get better food. the buffet is very limited. read more

This is our favorite barbecue. We have taken it to family reunions in Maryland and Bedford VA. Our Northern relatives absolutely love and request this each year. History

Established in 1987.

It all started as a neighborhood picnic at Pocahontas State Park in 1971. 3 Generations later, BROCK'S BBQ has become one of Chesterfield County's most recognized family-owned and operated restaurants. Charlie and his son, Tim, started the annual picnic and by 1975, businesses from all over were calling on Brocks for their services. In the summer of 1975, Brocks Catering was formed! The catering business flourished and on May 12, 1987, Brock's BBQ was opened in the Watertower Shopping Center. The whole family was involved- Charlie, his wife, Doris, and their sons, Tim and Jim. In January 2000, the son's purchased the property and moved the restaurant to it's current location. Taking pride in our customers and food, Brock's BBQ is proud to have their 3rd generation and long time loyal staff involved in the daily operations of the family business.

If you've got people visiting from out of town, especially north of the Mason-Dixon line, definitely take them here for some good Virginia barbecue.
