Lots of Croutons in the Salad
    Brennan R.

To get the rating out of the way, I give it a 2.5 but I bumped it to 3 due to the experiences and comments of my fellow diners. Let's start with the good: The restaurant had a classic BBQ style ambiance befitting of a well loved establishment, and, like almost every restaurant I have been to in Virginia, the staff were very nice and accommodating! So why this ranking? To begin, Brock's had a buffet that contained a few things that I was looking to order, but I am typically against judging a restaurant based on a buffet as you never know how fresh the food really is. Thus, I ordered a pulled pork platter with coleslaw and Mac-n-cheese. Upon first bite of the pulled pork, I felt betrayed. I opted to not order from the buffet to see them at their best, but the meat was lukewarm bordering towards cold. While the taste was decent, it felt as if it might have been pulled from the buffet. The mac-n-cheese was also disappointing, also being lukewarm but slightly warmer than the meat, it had what I can only describe as clumps of cheese sauce surrounding near barren noodles. The saving grace for me was the coleslaw. Pretty solid. Some of my fellow diners enjoyed their food more than others. The grilled chicken Caesar salad was "mediocre," the salad loaded with croutons. The Brisket platter (not pictured) was (in a slightly positive tone) "ok." Mind you, it appeared that the brisket slices had been thrown on a grill... hmmmm. And finally, the pulled pork sliders (also not pictured) were "good." This establishment is a middle ground, it's not bad, but it's not good. If the food was warm, it'd have a better grade. But overall, the best part was the price, my pulled pork platter clocked in at $12 a very solid and respectable price for a BBQ establishment! Maybe they had an off day. While I personally can't endorse Brock's, I am not opposed to trying them again and possibly revisiting this review in the future.

    Pitmasters Pitmaster's Sandwich

**3.75 First time in. Folks were friendly inside, and sat me right away. There's plenty of seating with a few tvs throughout for anyone interested in the daily sports updates. I ordered the Pit-masters sandwich, which was pulled pork topped with sliced brisket and bbq sauce on a sesame seed bun. It's was a large sandwich at a great price point. Brunswick stew was my side and was perfect on this cold day. A really good stew. I didn't get much smoke, if any, from the bbq sandwich. I've got to have that smoke flavor imparted into the meat to really rave about it. It was tender and plentiful, though. Solid spot.

This is the hair after I pulled it out of the chicken.

I went here for lunch last Wendsday. I got the buffet and got fried chicken livers and sides. There was a foot long hair fried into one of the chicken livers. Needless to say I wasn't hungry anymore. So showed the waitress, she just gave me my check. And they made me pay full price even though I hadn't eaten but one bite of their BBQ, when I saw the hair, due to their poor hygiene in the kitchen! DO NOT EAT HERE. And what they call BBQ is super finely chopped pork parts that taste like they were cooked in a Crock Pot. No smoke or anything. This place is disgusting!!! Poor Hygiene in the kitchen, and garbage food, and then expect you to pay for the garbage!!! I have pictures I'm sending to the health department. Clean up your act!

The pulled pork platter, my go to meal here, is always such generous helpings. The food is good and I have to avoid the buffet cause I will over indulge myself. The staff is always so friendly and it feels like everyone knows everyone in there. Plenty of seating always and always a good bit of conversation going on.

Met friend for dinner here and had a good time. We all chose to enjoy the buffet. Pulled pork, fried chicken, some sort of beef in sauce, mashed potatoes, gravy and salad fixings and more. It was good, not great. A little bland and I think next time, I would choose to order off the menu. Service was excellent. Our waitress cleared dirty plates, refreshed drinks and got the check taken care of. [Review 18098 overall - 1376 in Virginia - 1620 of 2022.]

    Fried Clam Strips.

First time at Brock's. I didn't opt for the Buffet so we ordered from the menu. We were seated promptly and received our food in a timely manner. My wife had the sliced pork and I had Fried Clam strips. Her pork was very moist and seasoned well. My clam strips were perfect. I cannot find clams on any menu around this area so I was excited to have them at Brock's. I was told they have the clams on the Wednesday dinner Buffet. I shall return.

Chicken mashed potatoes and delicious chicken livers. Looked dry but they were not very good!!

Buffet is mediocre at best. Pull pork & tilapia were OK. The baked beans were straight out of a gallon can and Mac& cheese was not good.

I though segregation ended about 50 years ago. This establishment did not get the memo. And it's the manager who is seating people. He thinks nobody notices the low-key prejudice. We arrived approximately 15 minutes prior to switching to dinner, apparently there is a price change, which is understandable and not a problem. The problem is when I was approached by 2 waiters telling me lunch is over. I asked, are you asking me to leave? She said, no. Less that 2 minutes later the 2nd waiter comes over and says the same thing. I asked are you asking me to leave? She said, I could not get another food. This is your racist establishment and I will NEVER step into again and I don't care who invites me. I support, every word that was written. You make a huge deal about Lunch/Dinner. You should have a cutoff time for lunch and don't let anyone in until dinner switch is complete. But do not disturb my peace with the foolishness.

There was truly great flavor in every dish. They even had pizza and fries for the kids, which was a nice bonus. The price was just right, and the service was welcoming and attentive as well. Tonight (Friday), as soon as we opened the doors of the cars, we smelled the smoker right away and everyone in our party smiled. When we got inside, we were immediately greeted by the friendly staff. The restaurant is clean with a great atmosphere (airplane motif) and we could see small planes taking off and landing from where we sat. Great start to a great evening. The Friday evening buffet had a nice selection of fried fish, shrimp, fish, oysters and chicken, with ribs and pulled pork, salad bar, clam chowder, sides and desserts. Everything is made in house and is brought to the buffet in small portions, but they never run out of anything. They also had a shrimp bar where tacos, Alfredo, and scampi is made fresh to order. We were extremely satisfied. As we were finishing up our meal, Candace and Logan (the owners) came by the table to visit and they are the sweetest people. THEN Candace asked if we'd like some tea. This woman had an entire tea cart with at least 20 teas! She took the time to explain the teas (classics like mint and dandelion and some I'd never heard of like grape and strawberry green tea) various sugars and honeys. She even gave me a few teas to take home to try! After an already delicious meal, top notch hospitality, this just took it off the charts. I told my husband that it felt like we were on vacation and we were less than 10 minutes from our house. All of this for $25 per person! Overall a really wonderful experience and we'll definitely be adding this to our regular rotation. Thank you all for making us feel so welcomed and even a little spoiled!

Presentation & Variety: The dish is a beautifully orchestrated showcase of premium seafood textures and clean flavors. The plate centers around a high-quality, lightly browned lump Blue crab cake resting atop a smooth bed of rich whipped potatoes. Individual Components: The Crab Cake: Features a golden-brown crust with minimal filler. It is packed with sweet, tender lump crab meat and garnished nicely with fresh herbs. Although there were a few remnants of crab shell within the cake, this was my favorite part of the entire meal as the authentic flavor of Blue Crab was abundant. The Scallops: Four large sea scallops were seared to perfection on one side, displaying an appetizing caramelization while remaining incredibly tender and juicy inside. The Shrimp: Five large, plump, tail-on shrimp circle the right side of the plate. They are beautifully cooked, retaining a vibrant pink color and snappy bite. The Sides: Fresh green asparagus spears rest in the center, providing a crisp, earthy contrast to the rich seafood. I don't eat veggies, so I didn't touch the asparagus. Would have taken a substitute, but the restaurant would not honor my request to substitute. Which is the reason for the service rating of 4.0, although the waitress did an amazing job. A bright lemon wedge and a side of robust cocktail sauce round out the plate perfectly, although neither was needed to make this meal taste any better. Bonus: They did give me a 10% discount on my food, therefore bumped my 3.0 rating of service to a 4.0. Would have been a 4.5 if Google allowed half star ratings. Highly recommend.
