Wow! What a disappointment. Based on the reviews here, we ordered carry-out. The pictures looked great and the reviews were good. This was not our experience. Had we dined in, the food would have been returned. I ordered the seafood platter. For the price, the portion was very small. The fish was small and tough, the crab cake was over cooked. I felt as thought this was not a fresh catch. The entire meal seemed as though it came from the frozen section at the grocery store. The baked beans tasted canned and the Mac n cheese lacked seasons or flavor. My friend had the BBQ combo and complained that the meal was bad. The grill marks looked like an add on and there was no grill or smoker smell to the meal. That's not BBQ we are used to. I added the peach cobbler and that was the worse part. It was thin as a piece of paper and the peaches had no flavor. I think they forgot to bake it. Don't waste your time. read more

At a work function, this was the catered choice. They ordered a few menu items. Baked beans, potato salad, pulled pork and buns, fried chicken and coleslaw. Baked beans - a+ Potato salad - c Pulled pork sandwich- f (I threw it in the trash) Fried chicken- b+ Coleslaw- c- No idea why the baked beans were so good and everything else was mediocre, it could be that cooking orders in bulk come as s challenge for them. Stopped in for lunch close to 2 pm when the buffet closes which we didn't know. The server told us they would let us know when they were going to close it and give us a chance to get more of anything we wanted.. as it was still fully operating. The food is good as is the service in a country setting with good Carolina style bbq, good hush puppies, boiled potatoes, collard greens, corn, butter beans, cole slaw, Brunswick stew, baked beans and vegetable soup. The people are friendly and offer prompt service and the facility is older but clean and neat. I will come back when in the area and try other items off of a varied menu. About a month ago, I participated in an event that was catered by Brock's BBQ. While at this event, the food that participants could choose from was Brisket, Grilled Chicken, Mixed Veggie, Mashed Potatoes, Peach Cobbler and Sweet Tea or Lemonade to drink. So this review is essentially a review on the catering service. A few weeks before that, I went to the actual restaurant for a sit down meal. Want to find out how it went? Read below. The Good: Taste of Ribs and Fries at the Restaurant- The ribs were St Louis style and were very tender. While I liked the taste, the sauce that came on the side only elevated the flavor. The fries were hot and had a nice crunch to them. Taste of Brisket at the Catered Event- I am very picky when it comes to brisket and this BBQ hits the spot. I did not need additional sauces to enjoy my sandwich the way that I would at other restaurants. There were some fatty parts of the brisket but it had a good flavor that made me feel great to be an American. Service at the Catered Event- There were roughly 30 people at the event but only two servers at the buffet line. The buffet line moved pretty quickly due to the diligent work of the servers and the servers also packed up the leftover food into individual containers for people to take with them. That is a huge plus because there are some caterers who will keep the food that people do not eat. The Bad: Taste of Mac n Cheese at the Restaurant- I am a stickler for mac n cheese, but this mac n cheese appeared to be somewhat old and dry, lacking in key flavors that are needed to compete with the flavor profiles that a restaurant like Mama J's offers. Taste of Grilled Chicken and Mashed Potatoes at the Catered Event- The chicken was dry and flavorless. After taking a single bite of the chicken, I had to drink something to swallow the food. The mashed potatoes had a lack of taste as well. Overall: I liked the service in both the catered event and restaurant and particularly loved the BBQ and fries, but the Chicken and mashed potatoes and mac n cheese were a huge miss for me. I could see myself going to the restaurant and knowing what to order while staying away from other items. THREE STARS. read more

The food here is mediocre at best. The restaurant is large, and there is a good amount of parking. The staff is friendly and does their best-taking care of diners and to-go customers. The minced pork platter was bland and dry. The St. Louis ribs were chewy and not up to par. The best part of the entire meal was the sides, which shouldn't be the case since you're coming for the barbeque. I hate to say this because I used to go here all the time before they remodeled. 1st time visit. Ordered beef brisket sandwich. Very smoky flavor, not to my personal taste but I am sure some people will like that taste. I also prefer a nice thick cut that falls apart from cooking so long. This brisket is the thin sliced variety. The sandwich was good, but not good enough for me to order again. My wife got a bowl of bean soup. The soup was thick and very good. She found it a little to salty, but. I thought it was good. The service was incredible. Very fast and very friendly. I got the pulled BBQ chicken. Now I'm from Louisiana, so I know my expectations were not gonna be met completely. This was maybe a 6/10. The BBQ sauce was strange to me. It wasn't thick like normal sauce consistency. More like water. The taste was good tho. A tangier flavor. I got the steak fries and Mac n cheese as my sides. Neither were worthy of getting again. The fries were cut super thick and a bit too greasy for me. The Mac was bland. Now the hush puppies were pretty darn tasty. Overall I think I would come back, prolly get something else from the menu. Brocks seems to be one of the local favourites around here. Whenever we have something at work for hundreds of people it is almost always catered by Brock's. I've not really found their pork BBQ to be all that great though and that is what I always want when I get BBQ. It is just OK for me. Most everything else we've gotten there has been decent, but nothing that really blows me away. Most of the time we really only go for their buffet. They usually have pork BBQ, chicken fried steak, fried chicken, and lots of mashed potatoes and veggies. So if you go I would probably recommend that unless you were really inclined to try the ribs or brisket. The buffet is relatively cheap for lunchtime and all the food is decent. Again, nothing to knock your socks off, but definitely not bad. Excellent service and a great buffet for the price. Came here for lunch and it was $8 for the buffet. Waitress refilled my lemonade with a full glass without ice so i could pour it into my current glass (so ended up with plenty of it). Buffet has 6 meat choices, 12 vegetable options, two soups, plus others. Bbq is good nothing extraordinary but for a small bbq place outside the city this is definitely a good choice for lunch or dinner. Waitress kept table cleared of and glasses filled. Poor beer selection but you come here for the food anyways so who cares. Don't buy into the bad reviews of this place. Those people either always give ratings on the extremes of the spectrum anyways so screw them. This is definitely not a 1 star place. Good food, good service, good atmosphere. read more

So conflicted. We are BBQ snobs, so I can say straight away that the minced BBQ, as they call it, truly is great. We went on a Saturday for the buffet dinner. Read the description on their website because the buffet options change daily, and on Saturdays you don't know what you will find, but they will have 4 of their signature entrees and you may find yourself dissaponted. So if you want the buffet with specific items, look at the website and go on the night corresponding to what you want to eat. We were hoping to find fried chicken, but it was not to be. The choices were minced BBQ, fried shrimp, brioled chicken (I think, nothing is labeled ), and meatloaf. The only one of the four entrees I tried was the BBQ obviously. Table mates liked the shrimp and greatly disliked the meatloaf. There is a tiny salad selection, and limited sides selection, and one dessert, pudding. Most everything seemed to come from a can or instant mix, except the mac and cheese which was probably home made but not very impressive. What was impressive was the friendly service, not needing to ask for hush puppies and rolls (they were offered up right away), and constant refills of drinks. If we return on a weekend day we will order off the menu and avoid the buffet, or go on a night when we know exactly what to expect. Prices are extremely family friendly. read more

Ordered dinner from here last night for the first time. We were looking for future catering ideas for our wedding, but over all I was not impressed. The service over all was outstanding! The lady working the host stand was very sweet, we chatted about some wedding venues and she gave me some menu recommendations. She also brought me two samples of bbq and chicken bbq while I waited and gave me a bottle of the house bbq sauce. The lady that does the catering was also very nice, even though she was on her way out for the day, she still took her time to talk to me and answer my questions about the catering menu & didn't try to rush me so she could leave. Now the food is a whole other story. I ordered two of the dinner combos (two meats & two sides each). Both the brisket and ribs were okay, they had a nice smokey flavor and the sauce was good but they weren't the fall apart tender I was expecting. The Carolina style pork bbq was very very vinegary, but the peel and eat(spiced) shrimp was amazing. It was perfectly cooked and had the right amount of seasoning! The baked beans and hush puppies were also out of this world good!! The mashed potatoes were definitely instant which is fine but there was clearly nothing added to spruce up the flavor, the Mac and cheese wasn't dry but it did lack flavor for sure & the greens weren't bad, homemade it seemed, but not over the top excellent. Over all I wouldn't write Brocks off, but if you find a good meal here, probably stick to it. read more

Thinly sliced and fairly fatty, I expected a tender, melt in the mouth smoked brisket. What I got was tough and rather bland, definitely needed the sauce (which was decent) to be edible. We just gad Brocks cater our Sons formal graduation party for 75 last night. This is our first time having anything Catered and they made it so easy! The planning process was easy as they have lots of information online already and the questions we had were answered in a timely manner. The food arrived Hot, Fresh and On Time. The servers were so friendly and helpful too! Our guests really enjoyed the delicious food. The BBQ and sauce are the best of any restaurant I have ever had. The Italian seasoned grilled Chicken got rave reviews too! There was plenty of meat and sides to go around. Of all the BBQ in Chester, I have to say Brock's is the front runner. Of course that all depends on what "style" BBQ you prefer, which usually is a result of what you ate growing up. Brock's touts itself as " North Carolina" style and it is. The sauce is vinegar based with a little tomato thrown in for good measure and seasoning. There were just three of us so we got the Family Pack. This consists of a pack of Wonder Hamburger buns, about a pint of BBQ of your choice (pork, beef, or chicken), baked beans, and cole slaw. However, we substituted macaroni and cheese and hush puppies since we made our own beans and slaw. Everything was great. It was all packed into a medium sized bag and at first I thought it may not be enough - but it was plenty. In fact, we have leftovers! And at a total of $21 including tax that's not a bad deal! No, I didn't take pictures - my phone doesn't take the best so you'll just have to imagine but trust me when I say it was delicious and well worth the money. read more

Family-owned restaurants always have a special place in my heart- every time you walk in, you feel right at home. Brock's Bar-B-Que is no different than stopping in for dinner at your neighbor's house. As soon as you walk in, you feel welcomed and treated so well. I stopped in for dinner and was happy I was able to be seated right away. The staff was super friendly and after telling them it was my first time visiting, they were more than happy to share their story about the place as well as specials of the day. The food was wonderful - I actually had their roasted chicken with mac n cheese and green beans (and of course with a large glass of sweet tea). True southern meal with every bit of a taste like my grandma use to make. My friends ordered the pulled pork and was very happy with their meals as well - their bbq sauce is one from the god's of food and flavor.
