    Good place to people watch

Locals here, decided to drive down to Pacific Beach and have breakfast. They have a fabulous selection everyone's so friendly and the view from there is fabulous. Highly recommend. I had the avocado toast with breakfast potatoes and my husband had breakfast burrito with breakfast potatoes. Both very good.

Stopped in at JRDN on a beautiful Friday night about 30 minutes before sunset. I asked the two hostesses if there was an ocean view table available and they accommodated me. Our waiter Arnold did an AMAZING job and gave us EXCELLENT service with plenty attention to detail. The chef came out multiple times to check on us as well as other patrons. The sunset was PRICELESS and it just reminds me that JRDN is a precious jewel in Pacific Beach. I couldn't believe how beautiful the presentation was and how FRESH the seafood tasted! I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant

Ahi Nachos were very good. They forgot the drinks but they got it fixed. Great vibe. The server was cool. Great sunset.

This place looks like it's about to impress. Beautiful, upscale vibe with a sleek dining room and a big sports bar up front. Service was solid, and it definitely feels like a "special occasion" kind of spot. The Wagyu burger, though, was a letdown. Amazing fries, but the burger itself was surprisingly bland--even with grilled onions and cheese. For $26-$28, the "Wagyu" label felt more like marketing than magic. I've honestly had more flavorful burgers at In-N-Out (animal style), which isn't a great look for a high-end burger. On the bright side, my wife's risotto was excellent--easy 10/10. The chicken was perfectly cooked, the risotto was rich and flavorful, and even the waitress said it's one of her favorite dishes (advice I should've taken). Bottom line: great atmosphere, good service, one standout dish--but skip the burger. I wouldn't go out of my way to return unless someone else was choosing. Street parking only, mostly free if you're lucky.

I write this review a little late. The view this place provides is incredible. Even at night it was still a vibe. We waited quite awhile before we even got waters to the table. Server was very friendly once he got caught up, & servers can really make or break a place, ours was what made it good. The food was alright, and portion size was great but other than that, nothing worth mentioning. The pictures and taste are completely different. My favorite if I had to choose is the mac & chesse. That I finished, and they did cook the steaks as temp requested. The ceasers salad was absolutely horrible not going to lie. I'm not someone to completely knock a place without trying another dish so next time we are back in SD I may try something else, especially with that view.

Honestly, this restaurant deserves higher than a flat 4 stars. From the moment my party walked in, you can feel the energy and excitement. The hostesses were super friendly and accommodating for my friend who had a daughter that needed a high chair. They sat us in an area away from the extra loud area with all the tv's which was perfect cause we wanted to have a nice conversation over dinner and not have to yell at each other lol. Our server Rue was exceptionally great. She helped us pick out drinks and food for the whole table. Now for the food. We did family style from raw, to sushi, to steak and veggies, and even the kids menu had a delicious chicken quesadilla for the little one. Everything was on point and prepared or cooked to perfection. This is a must visit and dine at spot either for a date, party, or if you just want some great food and drinks. I'll be back again when I'm SD.

Came here for drinks and a snack, which did not disappoint. They had a live dj on the rooftop that made the vibe all that much better.

I've tried lots of different things at JRDN but I'll always come back for the mussels. I can't come here without ordering them. Besides the mussels, JRDN is a nice place to grab a drink and watch the sunset. The inside bar area is pretty loud but the outside patio is lovely. Service is always attentive.

Server was great, ahi nachos are amazing but the menu changed and it is a little pricey for what you're ordering. Drinks are good

I came for breakfast on my walk by the beach. I made a quick reservation because it was getting busy even though it was just one person I was seated right away outside on the patio, which had a great view of people walking palm trees, all the beach stuff. I ordered avocado toast with potatoes and a coffee. I was serviced by Evangeline not exactly sure of her spelling, but she was lovely. I got my food right away. My coffee was filled up and topped off throughout my breakfast. I didn't feel rushed. The potatoes were so delicious which could be a hit or miss at a hotel restaurant. The food was good. I have stopped in here before for like a quick drink or anything or something. This is my first time sitting down, enjoying breakfast definitely will do this again.

Beautiful restaurant with beach/sunset views, tvs and a full bar. They've upgraded the furniture over the years for the better. The sushi is reasonably priced and well crafted. I had a salmon Caesar salad this past visit which was a bit pricey but the salmon was cooked perfectly. The crème brulet was a nice treat at the end. Phillip gave good service, I never felt rushed.

Great sushi rolls, delicious food, and drinks. The espresso martini was a standout, and the service was excellent from start to finish. I've been meaning to try this spot for a while, and it did not disappoint. Would love to come back for sunset one of these days--perfect PB vibes.

Looking for a fancy restaurant by the beach for a sweet 16 dinner, what is the vibe like here? Do they do anything fancy for birthdays? Not looking for a private party, just a nice dinner for a group of teens.

Yes! They have a private party room adjacent to the boardwalk with a hip, So. Cal beqch vibe. They can make it as upscale as you want. Great spot for parties!

    Is this place kid friendly?

    Yes I believe so!

Are they still serving Mama's French Toast? Saw many pictures of it and it looked incredible, but didn't see it on any of the menus :(

Why does this place have $$$$ when their prices look average?

I'm just guessing that some people may think it's expensive and just click on the 4 dollar signs when asked. It's San Diego right on the beach. So you may pay a bit more than other places like the taco places and bars around the area. My take...…

Does this place have a bar?

Yes, it has a bar which faces the boardwalk and the ocean.

    What's the dress code?

Casual, you can wear shorts, T-shirt

    Is the patio dog friendly?

No, sadly, the patio is not dog friendly.

As I understand it, Moray's is the outside/patio dining portion, while Oceana is the indoor fine-dining situation. I believe they pretty much have very similar menus, with Oceana having some additional high-end offerings. Came out to Moray's to visit my cousin who was in town for work. Since my cousin now has her most adorable infant, she wanted to keep it simple and dine at the hotel restaurant, which was fine by me. While I waited for them to come down from their room, I got us a patio table and ordered a delicious $10 draft. Mixed drinks were all hovering around $19 each. The server was friendly, welcoming, and helpful, which I greatly appreciated. I went with the reasonably priced Steak Frites, $36, which was to stated to come with Muenster cheese and caramelized onions on top, and served with a side chimichurri. While the steak was wonderfully cooked to a solid med. rare as requested, it seemingly had very little flavor. Perhaps had it not been covered with a wealth of some DEEPLY caramelized onions and an abundance of Muenster cheese, I might have been able to taste the seasonings and/or the beef. While I love some deeply caramelized onions on a salt-laden burger, the extent to which these were caramelized left them seeming soggy and too sweet for the steak pairing. Add in the several slices of melted Muenster cheese on top, and flavourwise I could hardly tell I was eating a steak. Ultimately, the abundance of toppings overwhelmed the steak. The accompanying chimichurri was also a little strange. While I appreciate that it was diced and not blended, it was very heavy on the oil, while very light on the herbs. The frites were nicely salted and good on their own, however a decent amount became soggy from being under the steak. The burger on the other hand looked excellent. My cousin devoured his in what seemed like a split second. I could have went for the burger, however at $27 I perceived the $36 steak frites to be of a better value. Again, shout out to our server. They were on-point! Thanks Moray's!

We told him we would absolutely come back to support the business because we wanted to see them succeed. Unfortunately, our return visit tonight was the complete opposite experience. After arriving, there was essentially no service or acknowledgment, so we quietly decided to leave. As we were walking away, one of the employees actually chased us down outside. All I said was, "I wish you luck with your new business." Instead of handling the situation professionally, the employee confronted us and scolded us with, "Why are you being so rude?" That completely caught us off guard. We had not raised our voices, complained, or caused any scene whatsoever. We were simply disappointed customers trying to leave respectfully. What confuses me most is how a brand-new business trying to build a customer base could treat supportive first-time customers this way. First impressions matter, but so do second chances -- and sadly, this experience ensured we won't be returning.

Parking is free for up to 30 minutes in the shared lot. After that duration, you need to pay at one of the available kiosks. Since these were the early days of The Playground, there were operational kinks that need to be smoothed out. First were the unusual business hours (e.g. 9 am to 9 pm on Thursday and Friday, only 7 pm to 9 pm on Sunday, etc). My initial attempt to visit occurred after work on a weekday. Despite the supposed closing time of 11 pm, the doors were locked at 5:30 pm. Second was the lack of prices on the menus. That is a cardinal sin in my book because if you are open to the public, then you owe it to the customers to disclose the costs. The first item for my to-go order was a snack size serving (six pieces) of Chicken Wings. I picked Bonnie's Barbeque for a sauce that featured a sweet and smokey flavor. The wings were coated with the sauce and not deep fried which made them a bit healthier. The second item was a Birria Quesadilla that came with consome on the side. A flour tortilla was filled with cheese, marinated shredded beef, cilantro, and onion. It was then sliced into smaller triangular pieces and then separated by aluminum foil in a takeout box. The consome had moderate richness while the cheesy, beefy tortilla was filling. I didn't understand the meaning of the new moniker as the interior setup had not been modified. It certainly did not have the ambiance of a playground. My first impression of this place was a three star rating with multiple areas of needed improvement including signage on the marquee. I ordered the Birria Crunch Wrap, and halfway through eating, I discovered a long strand of hair buried in the food. Not just on top in the food. It was clearly cooked into the dish, which tells me that basic hygiene in the kitchen is completely lacking. When I pointed it out to the server, she barely apologized and offered to remake it, as if that would magically erase the thought of chewing through someone else's hair. No manager came to speak to us, no discount, no sense of urgency or genuine concern. The rest of the food wasn't memorable either--bland, lukewarm, and overpriced for the quality. But honestly, after the hair incident, I couldn't bring myself to take another bite. If you value cleanliness and basic health standards, avoid this place. There are plenty of other restaurants that know how to wear a hairnet.
