This place looks like it's about to impress. Beautiful, upscale vibe with a sleek dining room and a big sports bar up front. Service was solid, and it definitely feels like a "special occasion" kind of spot. The Wagyu burger, though, was a letdown. Amazing fries, but the burger itself was surprisingly bland--even with grilled onions and cheese. For $26-$28, the "Wagyu" label felt more like marketing than magic. I've honestly had more flavorful burgers at In-N-Out (animal style), which isn't a great look for a high-end burger. On the bright side, my wife's risotto was excellent--easy 10/10. The chicken was perfectly cooked, the risotto was rich and flavorful, and even the waitress said it's one of her favorite dishes (advice I should've taken). Bottom line: great atmosphere, good service, one standout dish--but skip the burger. I wouldn't go out of my way to return unless someone else was choosing. Let me start that the food was excellent, top notch. Unfortunately that's where I depart from any compliments. The atmosphere and the service was god-awful. Perhaps we were under a speaker? The music might have been 200 db. The only way I could communicate with my wife was to literally scream at her, and that was only half successful. The service was terrible. The waitress finally came to our table after maybe 15 minutes. She started talking to us then stopped mid sentence, and went to another table. Didn't see whet again for another 15 minutes. Finally she came back and asked, can I help you. I responded, can we get some drinks please. Anyway we ordered our drinks. The drinks arrived after the appetizer. She said the bartender was pretty slammed, but when we looked over, they seemed to be just talking to each other. Anyway the food arrived. We had to call her back because we had no utensils. That took another ten minutes. We had muscles, but nothing to put the shells in, so I just piled them on the table which then of course started this pool of sauce around them, and the table got quite messy. All in all, having the music so loud quite frankly I think I might have hearing loss, and the service being so terrible I couldn't wait to get out of there. Our bill was $200. I write this review a little late. The view this place provides is incredible. Even at night it was still a vibe. We waited quite awhile before we even got waters to the table. Server was very friendly once he got caught up, & servers can really make or break a place, ours was what made it good. The food was alright, and portion size was great but other than that, nothing worth mentioning. The pictures and taste are completely different. My favorite if I had to choose is the mac & chesse. That I finished, and they did cook the steaks as temp requested. The ceasers salad was absolutely horrible not going to lie. I'm not someone to completely knock a place without trying another dish so next time we are back in SD I may try something else, especially with that view. read more

Stopped in at JRDN on a beautiful Friday night about 30 minutes before sunset. I asked the two hostesses if there was an ocean view table available and they accommodated me. Our waiter Arnold did an AMAZING job and gave us EXCELLENT service with plenty attention to detail. The chef came out multiple times to check on us as well as other patrons. The sunset was PRICELESS and it just reminds me that JRDN is a precious jewel in Pacific Beach. I couldn't believe how beautiful the presentation was and how FRESH the seafood tasted! Honestly, this restaurant deserves higher than a flat 4 stars. From the moment my party walked in, you can feel the energy and excitement. The hostesses were super friendly and accommodating for my friend who had a daughter that needed a high chair. They sat us in an area away from the extra loud area with all the tv's which was perfect cause we wanted to have a nice conversation over dinner and not have to yell at each other lol. Our server Rue was exceptionally great. She helped us pick out drinks and food for the whole table. Now for the food. We did family style from raw, to sushi, to steak and veggies, and even the kids menu had a delicious chicken quesadilla for the little one. Everything was on point and prepared or cooked to perfection. This is a must visit and dine at spot either for a date, party, or if you just want some great food and drinks. I came for breakfast on my walk by the beach. I made a quick reservation because it was getting busy even though it was just one person I was seated right away outside on the patio, which had a great view of people walking palm trees, all the beach stuff. I ordered avocado toast with potatoes and a coffee. I was serviced by Evangeline not exactly sure of her spelling, but she was lovely. I got my food right away. My coffee was filled up and topped off throughout my breakfast. I didn't feel rushed. The potatoes were so delicious which could be a hit or miss at a hotel restaurant. The food was good. For some reason, I thought this was a more formal restaurant, but it turned out to be quite casual. We chose to have dinner out on their spacious patio to enjoy direct views of Pacific Ocean and the sunset views. Surprisingly, the menu here was very global...as in fusion. My husband ordered the Lobster BLT with Fries, and I got this Crabby Tuna Roll. We also shared a plate of Fried Brussels Sprouts, and ordered House Bread with Butter (not complimentary). I also enjoyed their Aperol Spritz, and my husband had red wine. The foods were surprisingly good...and the views were spectacular. We had a super good late lunch today at JRDN. This ocean front restaurant is connected to Tower 23 Hotel in Pacific Beach on the Ocean walk. A very open and modern design, I had a feeling this was going to be a good experience. We were seated at an oceanfront table. Victor was our server and greeted us promptly and took our drink order. Once our drinks were served, we ordered 3 dishes for my wife and I to share, shrimp ceviche (5/5), ahi tuna nachos (4/5), and fish and chips (5/5). The shrimp ceviche was flavorful, fresh and a little spicy. The ceviche was served with very 'corny' flavorful tortilla chips. This was our favorite of the 3 dishes. The fish and chips were a close 2nd. The fried fish had a light and crispy batter. Flakey and fresh fish. The chips (fries) were crispy and well seasoned. The tartar sauce that accompanied the F&C was one of the best I've ever had. The ahi nachos was a very generous serving of ahi and fried wonton chips. The nachos were covered with a chipotle flavored crema, which was a little much for my palette. We had super fresh food, great service, and spectacular ocean views today. Considering my experience, I'm being pretty generous with three stars. First off, the hostess was pointing to where my table was instead of walking me there which is extremely unusual for a formal restaurant. We had a party of about eight and they gave us two small square tables attached to each other. We had requested for the table to be bigger, but they refused, and it wasn't until the waiter accidentally knocked over a full glass of water and spilled it all over my skirt that they finally extended our table. It took forever for me to get a new glass of water and there was no offer to bring me napkins or help clean up the water or even an apology. They seemed very busy and it was very loud, I don't know if they're understaffed or what but the waiters seem to be all over the place. Usually in situations like this, restaurants comp the food or bring you a dessert or something on the house or relentlessly apologize but not here. I always thought this was like a classy restaurant, but unless you're seated by the water, it's very rowdy and almost like a bar kind of vibe because even though there are tables, everyone is standing, drunk, loud, and really close together. The food itself is fine i guess. I got the lobster tacos, the inside of the taco was essentially exactly what you get from Leucadia pizza when you buy the lobster pizza (which is also way more bang for your buck might I add). The only thing that stood out about these tacos was the tortilla being handmade. It was a really good tortilla that everything else was average. I'd rather get taco stand. The presentation wasn't that great either pretty messy. They also don't split checks....So have fun with that if you're here with a group of friends. I do want to give this place another chance since I always saw it from the outside and liked how it looked, but maybe I have to try it during the daytime instead of dinner time. I wouldn't get this as a local but if I was just visiting San Diego from like a small city or something, I would probably enjoy this place with nothing to compare it to. read more

This was my second (and last) time trying to give this place a shot--and once again, the hostesses completely ruined the experience. We were told to wait "a few minutes" and then left standing around for over an hour. No one took our name, no reservation, nothing. Just aimlessly told to stand by the corner, then moved near the restrooms. No updates, no acknowledgment, no sense of customer service at all. And this isn't the first time. Just 9 days ago, we encountered a group of rude, mean-girl-type hostesses who looked at us weird, barely responded when we spoke, and even declined to let a service animal in--completely unacceptable. It's not even about the wait--it's about the lack of basic professionalism and respect. Unwelcoming, disorganized, and honestly just bad energy. Never again. read more

I haven't been to JRDN in a few years but wow this place has changed and not in a good way. The good: the view and the food was decent The bad: happy hour menu is the same price as the regular menu. Also you can only get the happy hour menu during happy hour and nothing else. There's only sliders, salads, and nachos on the happy hour menu. The food is ridiculously overpriced, we paid 32$ for lobster sliders that probably only had one ounce of lobster meat on the slider. The lobster tasted frozen. There's a massive television wall and more tvs at the bar than a chilis bar. They claim to be high end but the drinks took longer to get to us than the food and the food came out all at different times. They looked understaffed and poorly trained. What use to be a nice high end restaurant and bar is not a ripoff chilis with a view. They seem confused and can tell they are trying to save money but not staffing the restaurant appropriately. Great food, my halibut was cooked to perfection and someone else had the fillet, excellent, and the sides were great also as was the Baratta salad ! The three stars is because of management, I had called the day prior to make a reservation for outside at 6:15, but when we got there the following evening, they did not have our reservation. How two calls were made to the restaurant but the hostess says the phone doesn't ring in the front all the time someone in the back answers it and they never get the reservation, well, whose fault is that? We ended up at an inside table and the noise inside was deafening! Including three screaming kids at other tables. It was good but nothing crazy, it was a ton of ice and raspberries more than anything so I wish there was a bit more cocktail. The server was sweet and the view is great. Another great place on the beach in San Diego. We went here for happy hour on a Thursday afternoon and the beachfront patio was packed! The setting is lovely. Our server was friendly, efficient and adorable. The hostess is extremely friendly and helpful. We ordered numerous things from the happy hour menu. The oysters on the half shell were fresh and delicious. The calamari, California roll, truffle fries, and the spread trio were all good. There were several other things I would have liked to have tried, but that was already a lot for 4 people.
