Update: So someone by the name of Katelyn V. sent me a "compliment" about this post a couple of weeks ago. I reality it wasn't a compliment. She wrote, "That has nothing to do with the restaurant. U should prob have minded ur own business?" Anyway, I thought it was odd that Katelyn V. reached out to me. In fact it was so strange that I had a funny feeling that Katelyn V. worked for the restaurant. I decided to give them a call and ask for Katelyn V. A nice guy on the phone said she wasn't working right then. I asked what she did there usually and he basically said, "oh, she's the owner's daughter"!!! So, Katelyn V. must know exactly how her father treats people. After that I searched reviews here and there are tons of bad reviews regarding the owner. Most of them are about how he treats customers and staff poorly. I think my comment has everything to do with the restaurant. Just look at all the reviews that are not recommended. Oh, and if Katelyn V.'s daddy has an owner's account on Yelp he can directly comment on the review himself and not have his daughter try to be sneaky with a "compliment". read more

My first time here and it was delicious! Small menu but still a good variety with something for everyone. The staff is wonderful; friendly, helpful, welcoming! Special shout out to our server, she was friendly, patient, helpful, and she pointed us in the direction of a fantastic ice cream and cookie place!! Another okay place in Salem. Was hitting up all the wrong places on our trip, it seems. We came around 10 pm at night. No one was there. They had karaoke though and a few people were there doing that. My son got the cowboy burger. It came with bbq sauce and I thought it was good and I don't even like bbq sauce on my burgers. He said he was too tired to read the description and sent it back for one with out bbq sauce. Really, son? It was okay without bbq sauce. I got the haddock bites with a side of friends. It was okay. Came to Salem for the first time on a colder and blistery day. After walking around for several hours, we were chilled to the bone. This little pub looked warm and welcoming from the outside and when we went in, it lived up to that. The menu had various seafood dishes, but I went with their chicken fingers tossed in Carolina gold sauce. They were delicious and hit the spot. Went there for the Tuesday lobster roll specials and I am never going back! After waiting for almost an hour for not just the rolls but also for my kid's meal (with half the tables empty), I finally get a roll with pieces of shell in the filling. I can safely say it's one of the worst lobster rolls I have ever had! Not sure how this place got voted for the best lobster roll. With so many good places in Salem for seafood, I would suggest Turners or finz for a decent lobster roll. Also, if you are not careful enough to check your bill, you will be charged for the sides with the roll. read more

This place is just alright sweetie. As long as you don't mind being called pet names every sentence honey. The calamari and fried fish tasted bland darling, The wings weren't bad and the price was hard to beat, also the fries were pretty good........sweetie. See how that gets annoying? We called and ask if they take reservations and they said no. So we tried our luck. 3 adults and 4 older teenage girls. They said they don't seat 7 and refused to split us up. This is an absolutely adorable little mom and pop type restaurant. There were locals at the bar bs'ing about everything, watching sports and kidding with each other. The place was clean and the staff was very friendly. We stopped in for lunch while walking around Salem. Very nice. I had fish tacos and they were not bad at all and a great size portion. The sauce with it was delicious. Drinks were kept full. We were very happy lunch campers. Check this place out if you are in town. read more

Matt was a great bartender. Honest, and kind. Advising what is good and when to eat to beat the crowds. I was lucky because I was visiting the town and found a parking spot right outside and was desperate for food after struggling to get some all weekend. He literally saved me from starving again which says a lot from someone with a past eating disorder. I really loved the pizza! It was just what I needed with some great help from Matt! Unfortunately, my last trip to Seaport was definitely my last trip, period. In the past year to two years, this place has really gone downhill. They started by taking my favorite lobster roll and decreasing the size and quality, and increasing the price.. and now it's not even on the menu. The service keeps getting worse and worse. Last summer we tried to go a few times, and while the patio was almost empty, they were so understaffed that they wouldn't let you sit down. This was a major turnoff, especially after happening multiple times. Two weeks ago we went on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm. It wasn't busy at all so we were seated on the patio. I ordered the grilled portabella sandwich with onion rings. My 2 girfriends got what was advertised as a "grilled veggie pocket", and my husband got a pizza with sausage and peppers. First of all, we didn't receive our food for 70 minutes after we were sat. It was horrible. And it wasn't busy at all, there was no excuse. When our food finally came, I was horrified at my "grilled portabella". This thing must have been about 2000 calories. It was served on a huge sub roll. The portabella was sliced up and for sure not grilled, it must have been steamed or something. Then, it was DRENCHED in a thick, bottled teriyaki sauce, and then drowned in some sort of honey mustard dressing. I was so grossed out. I picked at the portabella, realized it was awful, and then put it aside and tried the onion rings. I'm a huge onion ring fan, and these were probably the most bland onion rings I've ever tried. The "grilled" veggie pockets had also never seen a grill. The veggies in some cases were raw (squash mostly) or very slightly steamed, on a non-grilled pocket. We asked the waitress why it wasn't grilled, and sent it back. It came back out virtually untouched. We told her it looked steamed and she said something like "yeah, it's probably steamed". Not the same as grilled. Hubby was overall ok with his pizza, though the peppers on the pizza came out chopped with large stems on. I'll be posting pictures of all of our meals soon. We will not be going back, and I don't recommend Seaport Cafe at all anymore. It's really a shame. read more

The food here is fantastic - weekly specials, huge portions, and comes out fast - and all the staff are friendly and patient. Joel, the owner, is VERY good to his staff based on how they speak of him and will defend them against verbally-abusive and/or entitled customers. Please understand that Salem IS expensive to live and dine in for everyone, and in October all places are getting slammed, so have a little empathy and patience. read more

First visit to Brodie's Seaport and we were greeted cordially by the wait staff and told to sit wherever we wanted. We chose a table and sat down and found the table top to be very sticky. The placemat was stuck and had to be lifted up to move it. I wondered what they used to wipe down the tables but resolved to give the place a try. We ordered a couple of beers and studied the menu. We both ordered a small chowder, and one of us ordered "angel hair pasta" with shrimp and I had "summer pasta penne" with chicken. The soup was warm and tasted good - rich and very creamy, I ate the whole cup. My order was wrong - they served shrimp instead of chicken. They remade my order. We both had a white cream sauce which came back to haunt us all night. The angel hair pasta person was up in the night nauseated, while I also had nausea. We both felt ill and will not return. Brodie's-please clean the tables with a real cleaner and not a dirty cloth. Be aware that your white sauce may be bad. read more

Part of the way I measure my dining experience is "was I happy when I left"? The food was fine and the service was good. The items were a little pricey for pub style, but not a problem for our evening out. When we were getting ready to leave, I checked the bill and gave the waitress my credit card. When the card and receipt came back, I noticed that money had been added to the bill. Not that $2.10 credit card service fee is a lot, but after spending $70 before tip, it felt like I was getting nickel and dimed. I did not notice anything in the menu about a credit card service fee, and to be fair I checked the web site when I got home. Bottom line is it ended my experience on a sour note. In the future I'll go to a restaurant that appreciates my business and my credit card. read more
