Lots of things wrong but the worst was that one of our party had to wait about half an hour longer for his burger while the rest of us ate ours. And this was after two others had to send our burgers back for being raw/undercooked! The last person had just received his burger when the check was dropped on the table. Rude! They wouldn't do a thing to compensate for the subpar dining experience either. Note that we had to ask for utensils, napkins, ketchup and salt. The only thing we didn't have to prompt them for was the check. And they threatened one diner for taking a photograph and claimed it was illegal to take the photo. Worst service I have ever had! We came in around 6:30pm for a nice dinner on our last night in Salem. The waiter was very short with us getting our drink order. He asked us if we were ready to order, we said yes and he just walked away for 10 minutes without saying anything. When he finally came back, my mother started ordering and advised that we will be on separate checks. The waiter rudely said "It states right on the menu that we don't split up checks by person". Instead of saying that as rude as can be and then proceeding to argue with us, he could have nicely advised us of this policy. We decided not to waste anymore time or money at this place and asked for our check for our sodas. He then advised my husband to "Go Fuck Himself" and told my mom that her name "Must be Karen". Completely disrespectful and this employee should be fired for talking this way to paying customers. We were going to order seafood and were looking at spending well over $100 on our bill. Brodie's was such a great find in Salem! The outdoor patio is dog friendly and our two pups were warmly welcomed with a bowl of ice water when we arrived. The staff was very friendly and attentive and seemed delighted we'd stopped by for lunch. I had the fried clam dish with whole belly clams, and it was divine. My husband had the fish and chips, and while the fish was very good, he wasn't sold on the batter. Not bad, just a little different as it wasn't a beer batter and that's what he was expecting. Three words: adult happy meal. Some more words: The adult happy meal is a legit burger, fries, and beer, and....wait for it....a toy! I anxiously opened the brown bag and instantly felt like I was at Mcdonalds circa 1986. I was giddy with excitement as I searched the bag. "Where is it!", I thought! "Did they forget?", I worried! Oh no, they did not forget! I was delighted when I discovered my shiny, bright blue frisbee. My girl and I brought the frisbee to the Salem Common, and although it cracked three minutes into play, I was fully satisfied with my adult happy meal experience. Since COVID-19's hit I have been very weary about going to a restaurant, but the people at Brodie's made me and my date feel comfortable. Proper precaution were put in place. The food; outstanding. Stayed at the waterfront hotel and was super excited to hear that there was a karaoke bar next door. I was with a party after a wedding so we had a great crew to sing some songs and have a great time. However despite people in our party wanting to sing, we watched the same 2 people (who were friends with the people running the place) sing multiple times. When we asked to sing we were told no, and yelled at by the bouncer. Sounds pretty dumb, but the lady who ran Karaoke sucked, and it actually pissed me off on my friends wedding night. On a holiday Monday during Halloween Season, in a town overrun with tourists, strollers, and dogs and mayhem galore, this was an oasis! We were seated very promptly, enjoyed an amazing patio dining experience, and the staff was amazing! Even though it was super busy, the owner himself was everywhere, helping his staff, bussing tables, communicating with the kitchen, etc. The true test was how they handled the awful customers: the ones that come in hostile , entitled, and looking to make a scene. The ones who harass, threaten, are abusive. Sadly such behavior is a 'thing' these days. This crew was totally professional, they set the bar on how to deal with such scenarios imho, and the food was delicious and accurately prepared in a timely fashion with courage under fire. Honestly this place wasn't good at all. Everything was fine until we got our food, it's pretty hard to mess up wings and calamari. We were in a rush and just needed a quick bite , not the kind to complain everywhere we go for a comped meal. We finally decided to say something about the seafood platter. both server and manager had horrid customer service skills. The server said "well what's wrong with it, not much I can do, I'll see what the manager says" and storms off with an attitude. The manager then comes over with the same attitude and has the nerve to say "it's seafood, Do you know what seafood is" ... actually I do! Which is why strike 3 is your final straw, and it was disgusting all 3 orders. The nerve of this establishment and their extremely condescending management. Abhorrent service--won't be returning. We ordered a lobster roll and salad. Upon receiving our salad, we asked our server, Tanya (blonde hair), for an extra salad plate. She replied rudely, "that's already a plate" and pointed to the small utensil/appetizer plate and then walked away. My friend and I shared our food with each other, so we could both experience the popular lobster roll. When we got our bill, we saw a $5 fee on it for a "split plate upcharge." We asked Tanya about this, who replied that it says on the menu that $5 will be charged for splitting plates. We never used the kitchen's or Tanya's service to split the plate of food into even portions. We were simply sharing our food, so why were we still charged? It would have been understandable if we even got another plate from Tanya in order to "split" our food, but we didn't. So what would we be paying $5 for? Tanya was very rude about this and spoke to us in degrading tones. We asked to speak with the manager. She went in the back and came out in a few minutes stating that the manager said "it's on the menu, so read it again." The menu says "Splitting of Plates--$5 upcharge." The fact is, we still did not use the restaurant's service to "split" our food. If the restaurant wants to punish customers for sharing food on their own, then it should be clearly stated as something like, "we will charge you $5 for sharing your food, or for having us split your plate for you in the kitchen." Overall, very poor and unprofessional service from both Tanya and the manager of this restaurant. Was this just poor customer service in general? Most definitely. However, being the only people of color in this restaurant, was it poor service that was racially driven? Quite possible. read more

Me and my boyfriend came here one night just to try it out because neither of us have ever gone and this place was amazing at hosting us. We came to eat but the kitchen was closed and we stayed for a few drinks and the bartender knew we were hungry so she brought us some chips!!! Was really nice of her! Our waitress could not handle another table by the time we came in and the service worsened from there. I have been holding off on reviewing the Seaport because I still haven't eaten here. But I wanted to review their dog-friendly patio and friendly staff. This is a great place to grab a drink outside. They often have live music and dinner/drink specials Mon-Thurs. I love having a drink outside but I'm even happier when I can do so with our dog. The staff brought our pup some fresh water and plenty of treats. Note: They do not have a liquor license. Beer and wine only, but this often keeps large crowds away. This review is for drinks/ entertainment only. Last Friday night my group was eager to mix things up so we walked over to the Seaport Cafe. It was one of those places where everyone had been meaning to stop in but we always ended up somewhere else. We were seated right away at a table on the busy patio. The weather was perfect for it! There was one well behaved dog there on the patio, which made me happy. There is also a huge ariondack chair out front which made a good photo op/ resting spot for the inebriated people there. This place gets 4 stars because our waitress was attentive and quick. The drinks were reasonably priced and tasty. And the music coming from the band inside was really fun. Some people were dancing. It's an older crowd. Like 40s-50s, but there were a few 20s-30s people there too. All in all it was a good night and a pleasant surprise. The bathrooms were SPOTLESS which was really suprising considering most bathrooms at bars on a weekend night. There was also a VERY drunk girl who was stumbling around, grabbing the bums of men who were old enough to be her father. She grabbed one bum and his wife intervened. Background: I am originally from the Boston area and back in the region for tourism. You can tell an awful lot about a restaurant if the locals eat there, and there were quite a number of them here, so I was already looking forward to it. My wife and I both had a great experience at this restaurant. We were seated promptly and treated exceptionally well by our server, Janice, who was very pleasant and attentive. I had the fisherman's platter and it was fantastic. The food wasn't greasy at all and the batter was nice and light. Portion size was good as well. Their chowder was also above average. My wife had her first lobster roll ever--as ashamed as I am to say it, it was my first one as well despite being from the area!--and it was downright spectacular. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Prices were comparable if not better than other restaurants on Pickering Wharf in Salem, and the service was top-notch. I think what I liked most was that this restaurant didn't try to be something it wasn't. read more

I've been to this place many times since it opened. I really want to like this place more than I do. The good: The staff is always friendly. The beer selection is decent. The food is usually good. The overall feel (outdoor seating) of the place is great. The bad: They seem to always be understaffed or something. It's not uncommon to be put on a waiting list for a table for only 2 or 3 people when there are many empty tables present. For faster service, sit at the bar if possible. Service is generally slow otherwise. The main thing that made want to go to this place regularly was a $10 lobster roll they had that was just killer, especially when paired up with an order of their onion rings. This is no longer on the menu. Now they only have an $18 lobster roll. It's getting harder to justify going here. read more

I had a wedge salad that was GIGANTIC, I think it was probably the whole head of lettuce lol. I loved it and would for sure order it again. My son ordered a margarita pizza which was HUGE! The pizza was very tasty. My BFF ordered a burger and fries and she said it was really good as well. They didn't have a kids menu which kind of sucked but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. My family visits Salem just about every month. We eat at all the local establishments. We visited the Seaport Cafe this past weekend. We frequented the "Derby" when it was located at the same place. It closed and the Seaport took over the corner. We stopped during our Saturday afternoon walk around town. We were NOT disappointed! The restaurant was completely done over and it was beautiful. The bar area looked great! We chose to sit outside in the terrace. The service was outstanding and friendly. We ordered the Fisher mans Platter and the Baked Haddock. The portions were huge and the Haddock dinner was the best I have ever eaten. My son Jack (five years old) said it was the "best grilled cheese" he ever had. And he should know. After many apologies our food arrived, it was for sure not worth the wait. The chowder was just OK. The Chef did not want to run out of chowder. You have got to be kidding me. After that I asked after the crab cakes. Then "the" crab cake arrived. This would be the second place I have eaten in Salem where I was grateful for the little paper cup of tartar sauce to remove the taste of the food from my mouth. All the while some gent working there came in and out from time to time to smoke a cigar. Yeah not a fan of cigar stench with my food. We waited a very long time for our entrees. We had to ask someone about them to get served. Like I said, and hour and 15 minutes after ordering. My Chicken Pecan Salad, Her Salad was Good. I had the Garlic Scallops. They came with broccoli and rice. The rice was over cooked. The broccoli had no flavor. The Scallops, were over cooked and without any flavor. Sadly it came without lemon of tartar sauce to add any flavor at all. We got the check. Put our card and waited for someone to pick it up. After waiting for some time I suggested to my wife if we start to get ready to leave perhaps someone will let us pay our bill. We stand collect our things and are approached," Have a good night and thank you for coming." Me: "We would like to pay for our meal though." He realized and took the check and card. This place has so much potential. Once they get organized and realize the kitchen needs big time changes they could be more than a tourist trap of location. read more
