As a former diner at Nick's I wasn't prepared for my experience at Brody's. Yes the food was good, the server whom we've had before (Nicks) was good as well. The $20 price tag for a glass of Sangria was a bit of a shock. The mandatory 20% tip was totally unacceptable for us. Since tipping in America has gotten out of control anyway and is now receiving push back, this is just adding fuel to the fire. Other than pride or ethics, where is the incentive for the server to be above and beyond. Since Brody's isn't close to our house anyway, I won't be making that drive again. These are the times that I wish there was a zero star rating. I went into Brody Italian earlier this week,which before was known as "Nicks", and I truly wish that it had never changed. This new ownership has absolutely skyrocketed prices, and in today's economy, I have no issue paying $72 for a meal, but not when it's cold! I expected that seating at the bar would be met with slightly faster service, but a very rushed, and might I add, very jumpy, young man bartending, was very rude, and almost smug, the kid acted like he owned the place! I truly don't understand what sinkhole this formerly beautiful neighborhood restaurant has fallen into, but it is sad. Hopefully whoever "Brody" is, figures this out quick! For so long me and my friends would find our way into this place for a nice meal, but I can promise, with those prices, and the quality of food, it will NO LONGER be happening. read more

Had a few friends tell me about this spot. So I checked it out last night for dinner and it was amazing!!! Everyone is so nice and attentive. The chicken parm with pink sauce is by far one of the best I've had. The caprese is what I started with and I enjoyed every bite. Lastly, the wine list is way too good for this place to be a local spot. Great place, great wine list, great menu. It's the type of place where everything sounds good but whatever you choose probably isn't the wrong choice. I'm going back next weekend! read more

I am going to try Nick's again, but round one wasn't great. I'm going to try it again because friends like this place. I ordered the baked ziti and my girlfriend had the fettuccini Alfredo. I'm not am Alfredo fan, so I won't comment other than to say she didn't finish it and didn't take the leftovers home. As for the baked ziti, it was bland and a little dry. To the owner Again you missed the point we only ordered 2 dishes that cost $61 and no drinks. Not because your portions are large it's because I had weight loss surgery. Again your server should of mentioned the up charges to us and let us decide prior to placing our orders. It's a total rip off there As you know we can't reply back to your response. I think you missed the entire point I was making and that was your server never told us about the up charges. $$61 with no drinks to 2 pasta dinners is extremely expensive and my son got tiny pieces of chicken in his dish not a side piece of chicken for $7 All the best but we will not return. We went here for the first time today and I even told our server it was our first time. Now my biggest pet peeve is when you get up charged and they don't even tell you up front. Example my son's dish said it came with meatballs but he can't have dairy products and that had cheese in them so she offered chicken and then she charged us $7 for these little pieces of chucks chicken. Then the menu said $3 for gluten free but when the bill came they charged us $4 more. Then we ordered the chicken parmigiana and she asked what kind of sauce did we want and she mentioned like 6 types of sauce and when the bill came we were up charged $4 more for pink sauce. Lesson learned going forward I have to ask ever one if it's going to cost more. My point is the server should of told us prior to ordering because we ended up with $15 more in up charges which was 25% of our total bill. Yep that's right 1 bowl of pasta and 1 chicken parmigiana was $61.00 The chicken parmigiana was good but my son's dish was average at best. Now I can afford it but I'm just warning people who can't afford it be careful at this restaurant. Needless to say we will not be back after getting screwed. read more

Since their opening day, I have dined at this location over ten times in the past year. The food is exceptional! Every plate delicious and prepared fresh. The reason for coming here regularly was their consistency in both food and experience, until lately.. For some reason, the female waitresses and hostesses are not friendly, attentive, or have manners. The last three times, we did not even receive a thank you for coming. However, the male bus boy was all smiles and made up for it. That should not be the case. Every employee in an establishment should make an effort to welcome each guest and make them feel at ease. I will sadly not be returning after the last few times dining in. I hope this review finds its way to management for future improvements. read more

It has been, from beginning, my very favorite restaurant.... for the BEST FOOD, FANTASTIC STAFF (feels like family), and INTIMATE ENVIRONMENT. We always eat sushi next door and noticed Nicks was busy and smelled good so decided to check it out for my birthday. Came on Wednesday night so it was a bit slow inside. Got seated and our waitress answered any and all questions we had regarding wine and popular dishes and what she enjoyed. She gave us the 411 for sure. Got the antipasto misto and a wedge salad to start. The antipasto comes with a nice selection meat and cheese, along with caprese and bruschetta. You get a bit of everything Italian in it. We then got the chicken parm with fettuccini in alfredo along with the lasagne bolognese. The chicken parm and red sauce was amazing. The sauce tasted like an Italian grandmother made it from scratch. Which apparently all their sauces are made in house. The lasagne, pictured, looks like a glob of baked cheese, but it was very tasty with bits of meat in the sauce. We also got the tiramisu for dessert which was very light, airy, and not too sweet. Came here for dinner with my bf. The place is beautiful, it's clean and it's a romantic place to have dinner! The server (I didn't see his name) was so nice and friendly, he is the reason why I give this place 4 stars. He asked my bf and I if we would like to have some wine, I don't drink alcohol or wine and it'd be so sad if my bf drinks alone? Lol We ordered somekind of a Mozzarella stick for the appetizer, I was really excited about this one but when the food came, it was only 4 small pieces and it served with a bowl of Marinara sauce. It was actually pretty good, I just wish they gave more, lol. My bf ordered Chicken Alfredo and I ordered Cheese Ravioli. To be honest, I tried the chicken alfredo and I really didn't like it! There was a weird strong taste to it that I can't explain but my bf liked it, so it's probably just me. My Cheese Ravioli was good. I have no complain about it! Went to Brody's for the first time tonight. The service, atmosphere, and food were incredible. Highly recommend the Baked Rigatoni. The Spicy Pink sauce is one of the best I've ever had and their Gorgonzola sauce has incredible flavor without overpowering the dish. We went here on Monday night with my family and I definitely don't understand the subpar reviews- Nick's is perfection! The food was delicious, the service was amazing and everyone was beyond kind. This place is the definition of good vibes- people enjoying food, wine, laughing and having a great time. Thank you to everyone who works there for such a wonderful experience, I see why it was packed on a Monday. :) I saw a lot of people commenting on price increases, but that's the norm with all restaurants now as they deal with rising costs. If you are looking for a casual restaurant for lunch or dinner and you're in the mood for Italian food, Nick's at Paradise Valley (in the Whole Foods shopping center) is an excellent choice! Whether you're in the mood for pasta, pizza, soup, salad, fish, chicken, or veal, you can find something that you'll be happy with at Nick's. I've been on several occasions and never been disappointed. They always start you off with fresh bread and olive oil (a must for any good Italian restaurant)... don't allow yourself to eat the whole basket though; you must save room for what is coming! Some of my fave things to order are: -Grilled calamari appetizer (yes, I said grilled!) -Grilled eggplant appetizer -Stracciatella soup -all of their salads are delicious -pasta with meatballs -salmon or tilapia (picatta style) -Shrimp Fra Diavolo I don't think you can go wrong with so many options to choose from! Portion sizes are generous but not ridiculous. I recommend saving a little bit of room for the Hazelnut Tartufo for dessert... it's the perfect sweet ending to your meal (and it helps to cover up that garlic breath you probably have from your dinner)! FYI: There is waiter service at this location - and the menu is a little different than that at their other Scottsdale locations. Nick's won't blow you away, but it's a safe bet for a simple Italian meal with consistent service. Take it for what it is... Buon appetito! read more

I'm all for driving all over town for good food. Sometimes it ends well w/ good food @ a good price. Other times, it turns out you just wasted your time & money. IMHO Nick's falls into the latter category. Called in a take-out order last night for dinner & paid $60 (not including tip) for three items: one appetizer, two meals. Their prices were higher but that wasn't a big detractor for us - until we got home & ate. The $20 Butternut Squash Ravioli tasted okay, but for that money I was dismayed that there were only six ravioli. My sister ordered the $21 Chicken Asparachi; she got two shrimp & its flavor was bland. The $14 Antipasto Misto appetizer was the better of the three. All in one, the drive from Laveen to Tatum & Shea, along w/ the value for the meal, was not worth it. There won't be any return trip to Nick's, especially not w/ the other (better) Italian restaurants we've visited. read more

I would give them 0 stars if I could. We were trying to support a local business during this time. However, the price they charged us was $8 more than the online menu price. This was our first visit and when I called to discuss the price discrepancy I was met with rudeness. The staff could not care less. The issue was the fettuccini Alfredo with chicken, which is priced at $14 online, Alfredo is really $18 plus $4 for the chicken, so $22 total. The manager told me the online price was a typo, but I should have known it would cost at least $4 to add the chicken to chicken Alfredo. He offered me $4 back. If we wanted to return. My husband left a tip on top of a $51 bill. I would think you would honor your online price and update the menu. Not tell a customer that They should know there will be $4 added for the chicken.. The online menu clearly state's fettuccini Alfredo with chicken $14. Honestly, this place feels like a rip off. We will never return, poor customer service for ok food. The tortellini portion size is super small. Not at all worth the money or the poor customer service. Go next door to iron chef. Better food and they are always happy to see you. read more

Nick's was this lovely little place that opened up on FLW over 20 years ago that over the years we would go to but sort of lost interest. As new locations opened up I decided to give it another try at this Tatum and Shea corner. The atmosphere walking in was lively, friendly and fun! As a business woman who regularly eats alone, a safe place to enjoy my food and the staff is very important. The bar tender upon seating myself at the bar immediately welcomed me and set me up with the usual flare, water, napkins, etc and made sure I felt very welcome. I remembered fondly the dishes I had ordered years ago, and looked forward to hearing about the specials, I ordered up a dirty martini which I hadn't had in a very long time and Jason, my server immediately went into action. With class and refinement, he served up one of the best martinis I've had in a very long time! After hearing the specials I ordered the Seabass with vegetables and enjoyed watching have a staff and this bartender interacted with all of the people coming and going. There were laughs, they were conversations, but most importantly no one missed a beat. Turns out I walked in on the nights that this kind gentleman who was my bartender was officially becoming the new owner of Nick's Italian on Tatum. To my delight his entire family were also part of the ambience to my left while the regulars kept coming into my right. It felt like a neighborhood of warm beautiful people all coming together over a good meal! The Seabass was tender, with just the right amount of seasoning and vegetables slightly al dente. After the second martini I ordered some more food to go for my teenagers at home and left with a huge smile on my face knowing that this wonderful establishment and its new owner are now a regular place where I can go and feel welcome, safe and enjoy the best food and drinks in town! read more

I had previously reviewed Nick's. They reached out to me to make it right and I was very slow in accepting their offer. I have and my opinion has totally changed. I did not let them know of my previous review so they were not trying to impress me. My group was 8 people. We are an older group so maybe a little more picky than the younger crowd. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. The waitress really took care of all of our "special needs". The problem started when the check came and one of our friends was not pleased that there was a split plate charge, although it was stated on the menu. He was totally unreasonable and was almost abusive to the waitress. She never lost her cool. She brought the manager when asked to and ultimately all complaints were resolved. I want to stress that the complaints were really not the fault of the staff or restaurant, it was one guest being totally unreasonable. I want to commend the restaurant manager and waitress for doing everything in their power to make the situation better. The rest of our group was totally embarrassed and appreciated the goodwill offered by Nick's. You get the gold medal for having amazing food, great ambiance and fantastic staff! read more

We are on vacation from Edmonton, Alberta and met some friends at your restaurant. The food was amazing, the service was great and the ambiance was the best. No complaints there. I had the Chilean sea bass, which is my favourite. The fish was the best I have ever tasted, my husband had pizza and he said the same. The only disappointment for me was that I got charged $49 for a piece of fish. I know that the quality of your food is amazing but I got a shock when I got the bill as all the other seafood on your menu is between $18 and $20. I think that maybe your servers could tell up front about the high cost. Then we can make up our own mind if we want to order it or not. But otherwise, amazing!! read more
