After sitting without service or acknowledgement for about 10 minutes, we tried to alert the host (who was 2 feet away from our table chatting with another host, clearly not aware of her restaurant) and she was heavily annoyed that we were taking to her. They have different daily specials and on Friday I enjoyed the $9 fresa frose. We also had the chips & queso which was gone in 3 seconds. It has goat cheese in it for the perfect touch! For the taco tray we did 3 carne, 1 fish, 1 fried chicken, 1 brisket taco. All fireeee! The only one I didn't care for was the brisket the meat was a little dry. We ordered the chicken tinga, which is a Tuesday special, the borderland brisket, and camarones tacos. Tinga was AMAZING. Definitely our favorite. The brisket tacos were good but I probably wouldn't order them again. The flavor was good but they were a little dry and didn't seem as fresh as the other two. I definitely recommend the camarones! The shrimp was cooked to perfection and seasoned well. Toppings were the perfect combination. The tortillas were a little greasy but still very good. Overall 8/10 on tacos! I also got the Rosemary's Baby cocktail. It was a bit strong but I like my cocktails that way. So just be warned! The service was exceptional. The loaded fries are a good appetizer with a little bit of spice then finished off with the churro pomegranate ice cream dish. Before visiting Chicago, I did lots of research (on TikTok ) on the must eat places, and this was a big hit! My mom and I went here for lunch and we were so glad we did! It was super yummy!!! Taco Tuesday has been moved to Thursday! One of the best tacos deals is the Thursday $2 taco deal at Broken English. I came to this spot with my coworkers for lunch. It was pretty busy, but we were seated quickly on the outside patio. The patio was cute, and the weather was nice, so it was enjoyable to sit outside. They couldn't sit us all together, so we ended up sitting at 2 tables next to each other. One of my co-workers ordered the chips and guacamole. It had a good kick, and the chips were crispy. She enjoyed it. We all got tacos to take advantage of the deal. The tacos were 5/5. My favorite was the al pastor de pollo. It came with a pineapple. The balance between savory and sweet hit the spot. The carne asada was also very good. The meat was tender, and there was a good portion of meat per taco. However, I didn't like the service here. When we ordered, some of us did not want onions or cilantro on our tacos, but the waitress did not correctly mark our order. When they brought our tacos out, it was on a huge tray for everyone. It made it hard to distinguish who's taco was who's because of the adjustments. And the adjustments were incorrect. Instead of just taking out cilantro or onion, they removed all toppings. So it was just meat and a tortilla. When we spoke to the waitress, she basically told us we were wrong and didn't make an effort to remedy the mistake. Also, she tried to tell us the carnitas tacos were steak, and they clearly were not... and another waiter even had to correct her when she didn't believe us. She had an attitude and tried to argue with us, but we let it go because we were too busy chowing down anyway. This was a disappointing experience, despite the great company. When you enter, you are hit with LOUD music. It is pretty loud, where it's hard to hear other people. To be fair, I got used to it (to an extent), and they played lots of late 90s and early 2000s jams, so that is pretty cool to me! Our waiter was nice enough. He didn't come to the table often but we didn't need a lot from him anyway. The frozen drinks were tasty but hilariously tiny for $14 (small enough to make my small hands look regular-sized holding them!). I'd skip them if they're gonna stick with that size/cost ratio. The bathrooms were small and one stall was out of toilet paper. There was toilet paper on the floor. It kind of felt like a dive bar bathroom, not one for a restaurant that is trying to be decently bougie. Also, very nice but loud women were in there having ear-shatteringly loud "girl talk," and they smelled like weed, so that was odd to behold. Our food came right away, in terms of main courses! Faster than fast casual levels, so quite a surprise. I was disappointed by how the tacos looked. The "chicken al pastor" didn't seem that much "al pastor" except for the marinated chunk of pineapple plopped on top of it. The liquid surrounding the chicken was very thin and watery, so it was very messy to eat and kind of annoying as a result. There was no way to eat it without it being messy, even if hunched over the table! I didn't expect this from the menu description. I tried a bit of the other tacos - no complaints on the asada, but the brisket was kind of tough and surprisingly gamey. The salsas were pretty delicious and had some nice heat. I liked the creativity of the ginger salsa! Sadly the guacamole was bad. Its toppings were great (I love radishes in any dish). But when you had the guacamole itself, it was extremely bland, no major traces of lime, heat, salt, etc., at all! I wouldn't rush back here. It is an expensive restaurant for mediocre food and tiny drinks. Even in the business-centric area, there are other "post work" options (hours-wise) that work better. read more
