Traveling from CT, we decided after visiting the Arches National park to come here for dinner. Beautiful decor inside! We were greeted by Juana. Very nice and very accommodating! We enjoyed our visit to The Broken Oar. The atmosphere is very casual, lots of wood tables and wooden chairs. The chairs are so heavy I couldn't pull mine into the table without assistance. Maybe I was just too tired from hiking all day. Our wait staff was slow to but we were there toward closing hour. It wasn't busy but everything seemed to be in slow-mo. Three out of the four of us at our table ordered the pork chop on the menu. Our waitress said it is her favorite thing on the menu. She was really excited when we ordered it! It was good, not great, but good. The best thing on the menu that we had were the sweet potatoes which are made with cinnamon and honey. The fried pickles were over fried and no taste. We sent those back. The desserts on the table were very nice. All in all, we had a good dinner. read more

Inside seating was horrible. There are fans just about every 5 feet and it was so cold! Outside temp was in the 70's so the fans were exaggerated and made it just uncomfortable. I asked for the Jalapeño cucumber lemonade that I read about online but they don't serve it any longer. I didn't want to spend 8$ for another flavor lemonade. I had the Oar burger topped with bacon and pastrami. Bacon was soft and chewy and I pulled it off the burger. The rest of the meat was very dry and since there was no kind of sauce, mayo or other condiment offered I asked for extra and the server looked at me as if I asked for something out of this world. Didn't finish burger , was just not worth it (21$) , my husbands chicken sandwich was small and not much flavor either. Sweet potato fries with cinnamon and honey ok, but just too sweet to eat with a burger ( glad we didn't order it as an appetizer for 16$ as it came as a side anyways ) Overall a big mistake to come eat here. read more

We applaud the staff for being so welcoming on a night of a major flood storm. The manager and staff were so busy making sure the leaks in the vents were cleaned up and all safety measures were taken care of before seating anyone. The staff were friendly and kind. Our server, Shay was very helpful and super informative. She recommended the pork chop dinner to my husband. It was delicious and came with garlic mash potatoes and fresh asparagus. I had the Cobb salad, it was huge and chucked full of the listed ingredients. No skimping here! We had a terrible experience at the Broken Oar and I would not recommend dining there. We were visiting Moab with our kids and in-laws for Mother's Day weekend and we chose this restaurant to celebrate the night before since we'd be traveling home on Sunday. It was the only bad part of our trip. When we arrived, we were told there would be a 20-25 minute wait. About 45 minutes later, I asked for an update and was told our name had been crossed off the list by mistake. The hostess said our party of 7 could split up or we could wait even longer. We chose to wait. I noticed a 6 top that was open and suggested we sit there and add a chair on the end, but they wouldn't do that. So about 1.5 hours after we arrived, we were seated, and honestly not a huge deal, but off to a bad start. Note- while waiting, I observed the teenage guy who brings the food to the table eating fries off plates on 3 occasions as he picked up the food in the kitchen. Once seated upstairs by the racks of t-shirts, our server did his best and was very nice, but he had too many tables. We ordered some apps, one of which was their sweet potato fries. The front of the menu says, "Home of the Sweet Potato Fries", so we expected them to be good. What came out appeared to be frozen, overly-orange, sweet potato fries drizzled in a very sweet sauce. Bad. We sent them back and they gave us fries without the sauce, which was nice, but if you are famous for something, you'd think it wouldn't be a frozen, food-colored product. Also, the sweet potato fries were labeled as gluten free, but they aren't... they are cooked in the same fryer they cook their chicken tenders and other gluten covered items. One of our kids has Celiac Disease, so this was disappointing. For our entrees, both steaks that were ordered medium rare and medium were delivered well done gray and tough to cut. We sent them back and the waiter was very understanding, but when they brought out the replacement steaks, one was cooked properly but the side dishes were not reheated. The other steak they brought out was the exact same one that was returned, with the section that was originally cut into clearly still cut open, but now burned and solid as a rock. They had cooked it longer instead of replacing it. I think it was a misunderstanding between the waiter and the kitchen, but at that point most of our party were finishing their meals, so I asked for the steak to be removed and said I would go to Wendy's. They also still hadn't delivered one of our kid's entrees at that point and the waiter said he made a mistake and it hadn't been entered. My son ate alone after everyone else was finished and his burger was not good. I tried a bite. Barely warm, cheese not melted. The patty looked like one of the preformed 4 oz patties you can buy Walmart. Overall, we had 1 out of 7 in our party who enjoyed their food. My son loved his hot wings and they looked great, but he did not like his fries. BTW, their regular fries are just as bad as their sweet potato fries. Clearly frozen and cheap. The steaks are NOT Angus Prime as the menu states. 1000% choice cut cheap meat. If you want wings and beer, this might be your place. Oh, they only have beer and cheap wine. No cocktails and nothing resembling a wine list other than some Mondavi/ Yellow Tail type wines. Lastly, the decor of the Broken Oar is terrible. The building has potential, but they have sponsorship displays all over the restaurant. It feels like you are walking into a rafting/fly fishing outfitter, and they are clearly profiting from the sponsors, like Slickrock Apparel, which is plastered on their walls and menu. They sell merchandise in the restaurant. It feels tacky and not necessary. They should remove the used orange life jackets from the banisters, get rid of the logos on their menu and on the walls, take down the yellow, plastic broken rafting oars off the walls and just go for a Southwest theme. Who wants to dine in a place that feels like you're checking-in for a 4 hour rafting trip. And the staff all wear fly fishing shirts. Such a disappointment. The only positive is that everyone who worked there was nice enough and they didn't charge us for the one steak that we asked for them to remove. And I enjoyed my Wendy's at 10:15pm. Note- for those traveling with Gluten Free or Celiac Disease, consider Pasta Jay's and 98 Center Moab. We had a good experience at both. As for Broken Oar, I flet my kid could safely eat there with the chicken caesar salad minus croutons, but they shouldn't put GF on their menu for items that share a mixed fryer. 1 star (vs. 0) for the waiter who did his best and sincerely apologized to us. read more

We had a wonderful meal here. The menu is marked with items that are gluten-free, and that is such a help. My partner had the Stuffed Portbella and I had the Chicken Marsala. Both were tasty, but the Stuffed Portabella had so much more flavor in it. We arrived at five minutes after they opened, and we had to wait about ten minutes to be seated. It was crazy busy. This is probably the most upscale dining experience in Moab. We sat upstairs. We ordered a wedge salad and a Flat Iron steak to share. They were out of the Flat Iron so we ended up getting the Ribeye. If I'm being honest, the steak didn't have a lot of flavor, but it was decent and cooked exactly as ordered. It came with mashed potatoes and six (literally six) VERY thin asparagus. Our server Dakota was excellent even though she seemed to have quite a few tables she was taking care of and having to run up and down the stairs. During our 5 day stay in Moab the Broken Oar was probably the best restaurant we ate at in terms of equal customer service and food quality. From our dining experience in Moab, establishments provided decent food and mediocre service. Not sure what the root of this is but it could a mixture of resentment toward the hordes of tourists and/or the lack of hospitality training in such a small town. Anyway, if you come to the Broken Oar during peak tourist season during the dinner hour be prepared for a long wait, 30 min to 1 hour+ depending on your group size. We came around 6:30 PM and waited roughly 45 min for a table for 6. The hostess working the front was well-mannered and attentive. I ordered their dry-aged ribeye with BBQ butter - medium rare. I did not have high expectations from our prior meals in Moab but I was actually surprised to find my steak perfectly seasoned and cooked. It was delicious every bite. Our waiter brought everybody's food out timely along with our pitchers of the locally brewed beer. He had a polite demeanor and ensured our water glasses were filled. I would say that my entrée looked and probably tasted the best on the table so do yourself a favor and order their ribeye. read more
