The service was not good. Barely saw the waiter. Tables were dirty around us from previous customers. Food was not good at all. I had shrimp and grits. The grits were cold and not cooked correctly. Sodas were flat. Overall experience was not good and because we had a group of 6 they auto charged a "large group" 20% tip to my bill. Probably why the service is trash because they are auto tipping. If not I would have left 10%. Maybe they would learn to give better service. read more

Don't let the location fool you. I was skeptical, but it ended up being a very nice dinner. Everything was fresh, including the kids chicken tenders. Absolutely the worst establisment with horrible service. Immature professional conduct by manager and waitress. 20 minute wait for draft beer that never came because tap was broken, followed by another 10 minute wait for a simple bottle beer. As we watched other parties who ordered after us enjoy their meals we sat over an hour with empty glasses only to be served ice cold steak and salmon. Waitess was usually MIA and was the worst. Their website looks upscale and mistakenly we thought it was perfect for our celebration dinner. Luckily there are plently of better local restaurants near by where we had the best server who made our anniversary and birthday memorable and earned his much deserved generous tip. My family went here 3 times during our vacation and it was excellent once for breakfast and twice for dinner. First time, I got the salmon and it was excellent, very flavorful. The next day I had the fish and chips they were very crispy. For breakfast I had the Avocado toast wish they added more avocado but besides that it was good. it came with an egg on top as well as patatoes on the side. The servers were really nice and friendly. the place also has a nice vibe to it, 10/10 would recommend. read more

Truly enjoyed dinner with friends on Saturday evening of Veterans Day Weekend. Many restaurants were closed for the season; those open had long waits. Perhaps due to their location (on second floor above an arcade) and difficult to see signage, we were able to get in without a reservation. The room decor is stylish and hip (I'd got rid of the TVs over the bar and have recorded music; I gather they have live music occasionally) . The service was understated and gracious. Pricing was extremely reasonable and portion sizes were large. My pork chop was beautifully prepared. Kudos to whoever put the wine list together: it was great to see some interesting wines--not the usual suspects--at fair markups. If you're headed to Corolla, please support Broken Plate. The food is fine. The duck wontons are very good, the rest is nothing to write home about, but good enough. Our server was not super interested in coming back to our table outside of taking our order, so getting drinks refilled was tough, but it seemed to be just our server - every other server in there seemed very attentive. This place has amazing food! If you are a Corolla regular visitor put this restaurant on your must visit list! The star of our group's meal was the salmon on quinoa with lemon cream sauce. I've had salmon all over the world and this one is the best I've ever had. Seriously. I ordered medium rare and it was cooked to order--moist and delicious. The lemon cream sauce is the bomb!!! The crab dip was a big hit for us as well. Calamari, excellent with a small suggestion to the chef to trade the sweet sauce for more traditional sauce. Fish and chips was a super large size, so bring your appetite (or a leftover bag). Malt vinegar available in request for those who like that with their fish and chips. The fish tacos were nicely done as well. The service was just perfect. Everyone was so nice and I appreciated that the bartender (I didn't get her name) kept my water glass full. Came here to celebrate my birthday this evening. Made reservation and everything was perfect. The hostess seated us explained that the bartenders in the servers were tied up doing something and she would take our drink orders. She took her drink orders and she brought them out. She took our appetizer order and brought it out. Then she went back to being a hostess. No servers anywhere. I ended up going up to the hostess to get refills and additional service. Some time later, an unknown server showed up and asked if everything was good, and walked away before we could answer. Oy! The food was VERY GOOD. Calamari, shrimp tacos, clam chowder. And their cheesecake. Don't ask! They need some service training, which I am told is underway. I hope so. read more

We were very disappointed. The prices were extremely high. My daughter has hair in her pasta. My son said his fries where cold. My crab was cold. The bathrooms were disgusting!! Not much on writing bad reviews, but when you are paying $200.00 for breakfast food, you would expect things to be close to perfect. Unfortunately, the Broken Plate did not even come close to sub par. No problem with the service, as we were the only group in the restaurant. The food was the issue.... My daughter ordered Avocado Toast. The avocado had gone bad, and the sandwich was not edible. My son in-law ordered scrambled eggs-had to be sent back, as the taste was not right. My wife ordered the French Toast, which looked outstanding plated, until she turned the toast over, and discovered each piece burnt. As we waited over 30 minutes for the food to arrive at the table, she elected to scrape off the charred bread and eat the remainder. Last of the bad review-the coffee was terrible-watered down-one step below gas station coffee. On the plus side, I had the Mashed Breakfast Bowl, which was outstanding! And heard no complaints from the kids pancakes..... There are plenty of great places to eat breakfast in Corolla-was hoping Broken Plate would fill the bill....unfortunately not.... read more

Wow - This place was terrific. Took my immediate family out to dinner for my Niece's 33rd birthday. My niece chose where we were eating, so I went with it. Was a bit apprehensive at first, because it is situated just above an arcade (which we could not hear from inside the restaurant) but I was very pleasantly surprised. Probably the best/highest quality food we have had on the outer banks -- and have been coming here for years. The salads were generous and tasty, the crab soup "pretty d#*m good" according to my 23 year old son and the varied entrees were large, hot and genuinely liked by all. (A rare moment indeed in my family when everybody likes their food!) Bottom-line: Food was delicious, great customer service, lovely decor - we would go back again! read more

We ate at The Broken Plate for the first time in years, it was in a different location then. It was really very good, best fries I've ever had- I don't get them that often but when I do I like them crispy and light, not soggy and these were spot on. The fish tacos were *very* tasty, we are going back tonight since they were so good. I didn't know that they had moved from Corolla Light to the Food Lion shopping area- 2nd floor above the arcade/SuperWings. Even though I'm in that parking lot each time I go to the grocery store I hadn't noticed it before. It was new, clean, roomy and tons of parking. So convenient AND delicious! Oh, I almost forgot, our server Chevelle, was a gem: prompt, attentive, a sweet but professional attitude and I hope we see her again tonight! This was my favorite restaurant we ate at during my family vacation. The menu is on the smaller side, but still has a good selection with seafood, steak, chicken, and salads. We got there early around 5 and it was mostly empty, but really started to get busy around 6. The interior is nice and clean, and our server was excellent. It's a mad rush around Corolla on some days, and it does not seem to let up for the popular restaurants that stay open after the summer season winds down. We happened here by chance: the first restaurant we tried was backed up to the gills. The Broken Plate seemed a little bit more our speed anyway. Overall the menu was good, the server was pleasant, and the service was efficient. Weak points of our visit were being seated right next to the kitchen when there were other spots available, the shecrab soup was a little thin, the fish was a bit dry (though it was the special), and it was a bit pricey. The bar and dining room had charm and character with the Caribbean flare. I knew it was a Caribbean theme so I understand but I wish I could have ordered a dish the without spicy seasoning, but what we all ordered was delicious. I cannot say enough about the DESSERTS!!! We ordered a Strawberry cheese cake Bubble waffle - YUMMY and The Reese's Pieces Milkshake- DELICIOUS! Small, friendly and highly recommend. We dined here two nights in a row while on vacation. Our first evening was perfect. There was only 4 of us. The service was exceptional as well some of the best food I've eaten out. We liked it so much we made a.reservation for 7 for the following night. Our waitress was beyond rude and most of our good was room temperature. She never asked how we wanted our salmon and several people in our party said it was under cooked. She never refilled our drinks nor even brought my iced tea and one soda until our meals were almost done. Quality good but attitude really impaired the overall dining experience. read more

Great place for a nice lunch. Don't go there expecting $4 burger and fries. The food is truly gourmet. Service was excellent. Full bar. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars was due to the scolding a gentleman from the kitchen gave to our server, outside the kitchen. You NEVER do that! If a manager or a kitchen worker (not sure what he was, hopefully, he wasn't the owner), has an issue with a server, it needs to be handled behind closed doors, not in the dining room, in front of the diners. In this case, we had a group of six and we may have confused the server because we kept adding items. Not her fault and for this guy who was working there to have a hissy fit in the dining room, very unprofessional. Again, the food was great, service was excellent, bathroom was clean. The shrimp was flavorful and the pineapple sauce was a great compliment. We had the shrimp tacos and the fish tacos which came with a generous serving of rice and beans. Again, the mango salsa and cilantro lime dressing was a great addition to these tacos. Our party also enjoyed the crab cakes, the crab cake sandwich and the chicken tenders.
