My first job was at Joe's Crab Shack in Vancouver, WA as a busser, then a hostess I have a pretty good feel for this place. What's the difference other than cuisine? Well, there is a giant waiting room where tables could be located, where people could be eating instead of waiting! Maybe their kitchen isn't ready to handle a restaurant that large? CALL IN BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE HOUSE TO PUT IN YOUR NAME ON A WEEKEND - we only waited 5 minutes during a 30 min. wait time. Using the old noodle really pays off sometimes :) AN UPSCALE DENNY'S?? SHAME ON YOU! Your idea of a breakfast restaurant is Denny's and therefore your compare anything nicer to it to an "upscale Denny's"? Boo! An upscale Denny's would still be open for 24 hours and have undesirable people hanging out, asking where the smoking section is. This is nothing like Denny's. This was the first time I have ever eaten a Monte Cristo sandwich. I hate french toast and am not a huge fan of ham & swiss, so don't ask me why on earth I ordered this, but I'm glad I did! Sliced ham and melted swiss between two 1/2" thick slices of french toast, dusted with powdered sugar - HECK YES! I ate half of this (plus the extra bite I had to take) and had the rest of it for breakfast the next morning. Reheating this thing in the broiler is KEY! If you have food allergies, you will have a lot of trouble with this menu, but maybe the kitchen could whip something special up for you? Fresh squeezed orange juice served in a tall glass that made drinking fun. The Food Network plays on flats screens, viewable from every table in the vast restaurant. Adam Richmond remains as the only photo on the "Wall of Fame" for a food challenge. Didn't he do that challenge at the Broken Yolk in San Diego? PARKING HERE SUCKS! There is a private lot, but we had to park the equivalent of 2 city blocks away, just to have breakfast. It doesn't look like there will be a solution in the future for this, just cross your fingers and hope someone who parked near the building is leaving when you get there. Hats off to this establishment for kicking it old school and keeping all of the Smucker's jam, honey, syrup, and additional breakfast accoutrements on the table - no need to ask! Boy - does this place turn 'em and burn 'em! EXAMPLE: couple gets up from table...2 seconds..."Sally, party of 2," is announced to the giant waiting room...45 seconds...bussers hastily clean table....20 seconds...people sitting down. I have mixed feeling about this place and I think it is mostly because it isn't a small family run business which is what I am used to for breakfast or brunch in O-side. The place is huge. That is the first thing that I noticed. They have a huge party room and outside seating PLUS a normal size dining area. At least they have a parking lot that could accommodate a full house All that is fine if the food and service were dynamite but its really just average. Their coffee is decent the food is decent (lots of choices BIG menu) and the servers are nice but do not come around a lot. Overall if you want a place where you will get decent food and want to sit around for a while and kick it without having to worry about giving up your table to the people waiting I would suggest this place. read more

I like this restaurant. When it arrived less than a minute's drive from my old home, I did the happy dance: HURRAY, a breakfast joint close by that ISN'T Denny's! Yeah, a definite upgrade from the generic and bland flavors housed by Denny's. With that a difference in pricing, but I like to think (as well as observe) that the servings and taste are a fair reflection of the cost. So, in other words, it's reasonable. With each visit I've made here, I've found the staff to always be on point. Almost...too on point. On my last stop for a quick catch-up breakfast with an old friend, we were asked, no joke, about ever 5 minutes if there was any plate they could get out of our way or any more coffee of water we could be served: Food in mouth mid-chew, plates nearly full, and cups barely sipped from, the service this one time was a little over-kill, but I'd take that over not seeing my server at all. The absolute best breakfast place in Oceanside. They consistently deliver great service, they're very timely, and their food is fantastic. My favorite dish is South of the Border with a side of hash browns. You can't go wrong with ordering any of the 4-egg omelets either. I always pair my dish with their Strawberry Banana smoothie or a Mimosa if I'm feeling a little swanky. The quality of this place can't be compared to Denny's or IHop since the ingredients are made from scratch opposed to being frozen. On top of that, their prices are comparable, so it's really a no brainer when I have to chose where to dine for breakfast. This place is also very kid friendly. I took my little brother here and he loved the kids interactive drawing menu they gave him. They also offer free beverages for kids. They some how lost my order. I get there to pick up my food when they say its ready and get told the kitchen didn't get my order. Even though they had a ticket and records of my order. How unorganized do you have to be to have this happen. They should really look into the system they have working here, because that is unacceptable. Maybe call ahead to make sure the will actually make your food. Maybe come in early and give your order to the kitchen because they have failed to do so. This Oceanside Broken Yolk does not remotely compare to the La Costa or San Marcos. Our server misheard and brought out the wrong drink. The cup from the previous was used for my tea and it had residue on the rim of the cup. We ordered a Santa Fe chicken salad. Salad was stale, the chips were stale and it was brought out without the black beans. Turned out they ran out but should have mentioned that to us in the beginning. We felt short changed. They did give us a small portion of kidney beans but it was not the same taste. Finally to top it off the salad had a plastic ring found while eating the salad. Disgusting! We showed the server and the dish was complementary. That was nice. We definitely will not be coming back. The food was not prepared the same nor did it taste the same. This place is a fraud and very average at best. The food wasn't cold, but wasn't hot. Out of everything I tasted, the Golden State Eggs Benedict were the most flavorful, so I suppose I would recommend that. That with some fruit and a drink wouldn't be bad. I saw them preparing to open it while on my way to my fave liquor store (what up, BevMo?!) and I had been excitedly waiting for months to try this place. Ahhh, such a disappoinment! I'm always in favor of fast service, but our food was brought out to our table suspiciously fast. It makes me wonder if they really did just reheat some stale ass food. I ordered the Mom Omelet (avocado, mushroom, bell pepper, etc)...pretty standard omelet, right? It had NO flavor. NONE. Zip. Zilch. NO FLAVOR. My veggies were raw and there was no seasoning. Even my fruit salad was bland. My girls both had (cold ass) waffles. They both demanded that we never go there again. On top of everything, it was expensive. Also tried the tiki toast with added on applewood bacon and hash-browns to make it a combo for $9.45+3.75. Paired with a mocha $2.95 and tried the four flight mimosa.. $9.95. Other than finding a piece of hair on my bacon and in my potatoes....... Food was pretty good. The service overall could use some improvement. Jim was our waiter he seemed overwhelmed in his section though other wait staff were "working" busters and other wait staff weren't helping. Neighborhood breakfast eatery open early and has decent pricing. Our meal including the mimosa flight totaled up to $48.00 however the manager deducted the combo add on upgrade since there was hair in it. read more

Ok so I was prepared for a super long wait with my son, since that how it is at all the other locations I have been to. Well we walked in and saw several parties waiting to be seated. My son pointed to the bar and it was open so that's where we sat. No line no wait cool, we were greeted immediately with a friendly smile despite the busy pace back there. We placed our order and it too came out quick., we got some omelet with spinach asparagus and bacon,it was excellent. Having gone to the good San Marcos location several times (and the so-so San Diego Gaslamp Quarter location once), I was excited to see Oceanside getting it's own location across the street from Toys R Us. in what had been an empty restaurant location for quite a while. I can say that immediately, I was impressed with the way the restaurant has been laid out, with the entry way adjacent to the bar area and plenty of waiting space inside, complete with TV viewing if you are sent to the large room on the left. Several TVs around the restaurant make for some good viewing, but we were given the option of going outside in the patio area where they have the outside radio speakers working, but for the entertainment/viewing, you get the street traffic to watch. No big deal, as I don't go to a restaurant so I can watch TV. On to the food which was the Santee Chili Burger for me, since I had been very interested in trying the lunch menu after several times having breakfast. The burger itself was decent, although when eating closer to the middle, medium well looked more like rare to me. The bean filled chili was a bit stingy for a chili burger and quite blah as were the fries. Really, these guys could go to Grubby's in downtown Oceanside to learn something about how a chili burger is supposed to be made! My wife had the chicken fried steak which was quite small as these things go and had just a light coat of gravy on it. The hash browns were undercooked and very glue-like and her toast was stacked on top of all this in a rather sloppy fashion. And to get a refill on her coffee was a problem as service seemed to just disappear for a good long while. So overall, I'd say we were disappointed with our experience here and will probably make the drive to the much better San Marcos location rather than give this place another go. read more

If you plan to eat here, make sure you actually dine in. Every time I dine in it's a great experience, staff is nice, and the food is presented wonderfully. It has a big menu with lots of options, and a good assortment of drinks. It's my absolute favorite breakfast/brunch place and I am NEVER EVER disappointed when I eat there. It's my go-to, and I bring my friends here whenever we want brunch. I seriously eat here at least once a month, sometimes more. But... for whatever reason the to-go process can't get it right two times in a row. The first time I ordered feta avocado toast with egg there was no cheese, no dressing given, and everything was thrown around the container, plus my friend who got a Belgian waffle got like 3 pieces of fruit, no syrup, no butter, so I had to drive back to the restaurant to pick these things up. The guy at the desk was super apologetic and sweet, and I felt bad even having to come back and bother him. I usually don't try to complain but like.. the food here is not cheap. For a piece of toast and a couple eggs is $15. For that waffle with 3 pieces of fruit is was also like $16... It was infuriating because by the time we got to eat everything was soggy, cold, and just... whatever. We should have just checked the bag before we left, but I trusted them so much to get it right based on my past experiences that I didn't question it until my friend and I were sitting there annoyed and wondering what we paid for. I ordered today and my feta toast with egg at least had everything with it this time.. but it looks like a child got their hands on the box and shook it. The eggs were broken and leaking, the lettuce was thrown, avocado smeared on the side of the container... There was no presentation, just a mess to clean up. I get that it's likely things are going to roll off the bread, and their team must be busy, but it just.. was not handled with care at all. I've ordered eggs from Denny's or IHOP often and nothing has ever been so poorly handled. The food is fine but it's just.. such a huge difference than eating in store. I don't feel like I should have paid $15 for this mess... twice. Staff, you guys are all so wonderful. I know this pandemic has been difficult for all of us, and I hate to criticize your process at all, but the experience would be so much better if the take out food was just handled better and double checked before people walk out. It shouldn't be so night and day between dine in and take out. In house the care you give is so apparent and I love it, and I just don't feel that that same care is given to take out. My partner and I have gone to several Broken Yolk locations and this is the best one so far in our opinion. Waiters/waitresses (except for one) are super friendly despite how busy they always are, and they bring us plenty of red and green salsa when we ask. If an order arrives wrong, they are happy to run it back immediately and assures us that it'll return right away and it does. The quality of other locations tends to be subpar (especially the Del Mar one) but this one is always great. Wait time for a table is fairly long, 20 minutes on a good day but we're fine with it because we love it here. Thanks for all you do! read more

My potatoes were cold and undercooked. The pancakes were not fluffy - seemed dried. They give you a lot of food which is great but the flavors were not there for me. My family ( husband and 2 kids) visited this location on a Saturday AM....What were we thinking I thought as we pulled into the massive packed parking lot. We went in the kind host told us it was 20 minuted for a table inside or we could sit outside right now. Since is was raining we went with the 20 minute wait :) We were the only people waiting but it was packed.Kids were starving and I thought "OH Great this is going to take forever"....before I could finish that thought they called our names!!! ( 5 minutes tops) Sat right down host got our drinks in record time and waitress was at the table to tell us the specials and chat us up a bit ( SHE WAS SUPER NICE!) We ordered and before we knew it our delicious warm, tasty food was in form of us to gobble down!
