Love, love , love this place! The vibe is fantastic. Bonus, it is minority owned and managed! I chose this place for our family during restaurant week because their menu is very vegan friendly. From the moment we walked in, we knew were some place special. Our server, Gabriella, was the most enthusiastic, knowledgeable and efficient server that we have had in a very long time! She helped make the evening the perfect dining experience. She made sure to take care of our vegan, non drinking, dairy allergy problem without as much a sigh. In fact, she was all about it. We were here for the Restaurant week menu but ordered some extra appetizers. We didn't need to, the portion sizes are certainly sufficient but I am glad we did because they were so good. We had both the brussels sprouts and the Moroccan carrots. Both were excellent and I would recommend. From the Restaurant week menu we had the Spanish Cod fritters - excellent, Winter beet salad - excellent and two had the seared watermelon steak - excellent and two had the Seared skirt steak - very good. We enjoyed some cocktails, mocktails and a flight of wine. It was so much fun for all of us! They had a nice jazz band playing live music. Finally got a chance to try the winery out. I loved loved loved the sweet flight. We ordered additional glass of the port. So yummy. The small bites were good - the Brussels and the spicy fries but that garlic aïoli was the best!! I could put that on everything. Now - the salmon under the "shareable" section - not shareable. Get your own. It's a small piece of salmon smothered in alot of stuff I didn't care for - the roe, caviar, fish sauce and mushroom too much going on for me. The mac and cheese was fair. It's not quite baked. It's finished off in a cast iron with cheese and some sort of crumbles on top. Not baked all the way through. All in all - I like the vibe. My husband and I made our way out on a work night to experience the Grown Folks' Stories event in the courtyard and treated ourselves to dinner beforehand. This place is wooooonnnnddderful!!! From the moment you arrive until the moment you leave you are wrapped up with genuine concern for a lovely experience. The Black on Black wine flight was delicious from the first sip to the last and their take on an Old Fashioned had my husband wanting another, which he smartly declined because, work. We started with the hummus and I've never had better hummus in my life. It is sweet and savory and the pita is crispy and fresh and just wow. The special salad and FRIED shrimp with house made dressing vanished in moments, and my husband wouldn't let me have even one bite of his phenomenal gnocchi. Pro tip: either schedule a reservation ($10 fee toward the bill) or add yourself on their waitlist 30-60mims prior to coming because they are busy. Atmosphere: The vibes were vibing! Outside, they have lounge chairs and several tables for patio seating. Inside they have bar seating or tables. We came on a Thursday night around 8 and the DJ was playing a R&B/jazzy playlist that I loved! 5/5 Service: the hostess was super nice. Even after adding ourselves on the waitlist 30mins before getting there, there was still another 30min wait. The hostess hooked us up in under 15mins which we appreciated. Our server took a little while to give us our drinks and to take our order but after his first appearance her was very accommodating so no hard feelings. 4/5 Drinks/Food: Of course we had to try the wine at a winery! We decided on the wine flight, which came with two reds (a blend and dry), a rose, and a chardonnay. My fav was the reds! I went with the seafood gnocchi which was so rich and amazing! Excellent experience! The staff was warm and inviting when I entered I felt like I was being greeted by family. The server Gabriella, was very knowledgeable, friendly and personable. She was very attentive and she made the dining experience enjoyable. We enjoyed a wine tasting: Maresuret Prosecco-My fav Charpentier Champagne-good, Aslina Red blend-to fry for my liking, but not bad. My friend and I enjoyed the Watermelon Steak as a starter followed by the English Pea Salad, both were delicious. We finished with the Fried Shrimp and the Vegan BW Burger. The ambiance is great! This place is booked and busy, I lucked up and got a reservation for 2 on a Sunday at 630pm . My advice is to check to see if it's cancellations. This area has undergone revitalization Cottage Grove is not an area I frequent often but I was with my hubby no problems or issues. We arrived a little early and we were seated quickly and greeted by the server assistant with water The menu is small in terms of the food offerings I'm a foodie so I was looking for a nice variety, but it was a slim selection.I cant partake in shellfish the menu has mussels and shrimp they don't offer pork dishes which was great . So decided on the salmon which is maybe 5oz they paired it with Brussels sprouts the salmon it's served alone. My hubby's selection was a burger it was alone as well and parmesan fries and that was an additional charge as well. For my drink I chose a dreamsicle alcoholic it's was a really tiny beverage and my husband went with an off menu Sweet red wine. The positives. I love the decor. I love the vibe. It was even music playing in the background. This business just opened not too long ago. Maybe less than a month. FREE STREET PARKING & the restaurant is gorgeous from the outside with the colorful doors to the sleek, modern inside! I was greeted by 2 nice hostesses and seated immediately for my reservation. Complimentary sweet potato crisps were brought to the table first. These crisps were oily and only salted on top. I enjoyed the slight salt with the sweet potato flavor but prefer it be tossed for the full effect. The dill sauce was nice but not sure how it paired with the sweet potato. Next was a half order of the house salad. The salad was terrible. The dressing was grainy and thick and the greens (arugula) were too light to handle the dressing. The peas inside the salad did not add any flavor and I don't remember them being in the description. For entrees the BW Burger was FANTASTIC including the pickle! The salmon was delicious and very well cooked. The japanese broth poured on top added nice flavor too. The potato chips served along with the fish is not the smartest idea since they got soggy. I would've preferred a risotto to hold on to the broth and taste it in every bite. The gnocchi was okay. I appreciate the large shrimp! Dessert was the salted caramel peach pie. Edible but not to die for. Lastly, the drinks! Well mixed and beautiful. I was disappointed that there is not an option for a wine flight at a winery. I hope they add it to the menu in the near future. It may increase wine club membership if guests could taste multiple wines at once. Service was just ok as well. Had heard really good things about Bronzeville Winery so of course expectations were high when I came here for brunch with the family (per my suggestion). On the food end, did not disappoint. I had the cheesy shrimp and grits and BABY.. run don't walk. So rich, so tasty and exactly what I was looking for. Brunch and mimosas are obviously synonymous at this point so love that they crank it up a notch with a flight of different flavors (extra points for presentation too). Speaking of presentation, the whole vibe of this place is just great. It's really warm/inviting and they even had live music when we went. It made the setting for a great Sunday honestly. I only have two gripes and that was that it did take some time for our food to come out, so much so that we were complimented with dessert and Prosecco for the wait. Not a big deal but then while we were wrapping up our meals and drinks, our server told us that there was a time limit per table and that we basically had to scoot our boots. This was kind of unnecessary seeing as that we were literally about to get ready to leave anyway, and also considering how long we waited for food it seemed they could have given us some more time to just sit and enjoy the music without being rushed. The place wasn't packed or anything either so it felt kind of arbitrary. Without that, it was definitely a hit though. My husband and I went to Bronzeville Winery for a date night and everything was fantastic. The food, vibes, and service was amazing!! Our waiter Stokely was wonderful! He was very knowledgeable about all of the wines and the menu. For starters we had the Sweet Potato Ribbons (on the house) and the Sprouts. The Sweet Potato Ribbons were amazing. They were very light and crispy. I could get those all day. For an entree I had the Gnocchi and my husband had the BW Wagyu Burger. Both were fantastic. The Gnocchi was packed with seafood and the artichokes and feta cheese really added to the flavor. With my entree I described my wine preferences and asked Stokely our waiter for a suggest wine pairing. He choose the perfect wine for both mine and my husband's dish. The bartender, " Emmit" was informative . He knew his thing and what his customers like. He kept it professional and even presented his business card . I have been anticipating Bronzeville Winery's opening since April and it did not disappoint. My party had reservations on the patio where the atmosphere was lively and upbeat. And in spite of the cool, windy 70 degree evening, we managed to warm up to cups of flavorful black chocolate hot tea while waiting for our entrees. The service was a little slow at times, but the staff was wonderful. We ordered the mussels with scrumptious garlic sauce and complemented it with a delicious, rich lemon and lavender buttercream cake for dessert (that I will have again and again in the future). A black owned winery? We LOVE that! I came here on a Thursday early evening for a quick glass of wine with a friend. We didn't have reservations but we're kindly sat at the bar to enjoy the restaurant and our wine. The winery is stunning very airy feel with natural lighting, vibrant colors in the doors and an eye catching bar that housed multiple wine both for drinking and decor. All the staff we engaged with were polite/friendly and importantly knowledgeable as I personally always have a hard time picking a good wine. We tried a few different wines they offered while catching up and truly felt right at home with the hospitality here. I do look forward to ways the my expand their wine offerings and even hope they consider a rotating wine menu to keep people (like myself) who love wine coming back to taste and enjoy new wine. A vibe. Excellent service. Beautiful space. DJ on duty but you wouldn't even know it, very light and lower volume which we loved and appreciated! Our waiter Ira was cool! The food was amazing, every dish was perfection. The mussels were not only tasty, but came complete with fresh bread to sop up the leftover gravies and juices. So yummy, so smart! The salmon was so dimensional. Never used that word to describe a dish but it had a bit of everything on top from roe to Katsuobushi to king trumpet mushroom. I mean Each bite was flavorful and unique. The wine selections were great. Economical where you can totally buy a bottle for the table and have cocktails as well. We enjoyed a mezcal cocktail and old fashioned as well. Dessert and a wine flight would have been a perfect addition to the menu but we heard there was more to come as the summer starts. I absolutely loved this place. The food, the service and decor! I wanted to find a great place not too far from Soldier afield since I had plans to see Beyoncé later that evening. I had a friend visiting and I wanted to take her to a cool, black-owned spot. It did not disappoint. Our server was amazing and so funny. I wish I could recall her name. What I appreciated was that she let us know upfront that they were short staffed that day and things might run a little slow than usual. I really appreciated that because we could adjust our schedule and order accordingly. We also let her know we had a hard stop. Honestly I never noticed a difference in service. Our server was on top of everything. She wanted to make sure we got out on time - and we did! I recommend the wine flight to share. The Brussel sprouts were outstanding. And I'm super picky about them because I like them so much. The duck breast was AMAZING!! The wild mushroom pappardelle was great too. Honestly the whole menu rocks. I wish I had room and time for dessert. I plan to return soon. So great to have a place like this on the Southside!! I have been receiving a lot of mixed emotions about this place. I finally was able to come out on Friday to celebrate ladies' night. One of the ladies made reservations for us to come here. The theme for this month was to support a local black owned business for Black History Month. The reservations were set for 7pm. We all arrived on time and was ready to be seated. But we had to wait a little longer for our table to be available. Very small area space. This place is very elegant and set the good vibe moment. There is a live DJ playing some grown and sexy old school music. Place is dim but romantically lit up. The ambience is for the grown folks. Our server Janiece was awesome and super attentive. Some of us ordered the BW burger which came with Adobe fries. I ordered my burger well done but when it arrived at the table. It wasn't even cooked fully. I was very disappointed to get a rare, cooked burger. Janiece took it straight back to the kitchen for a freshly well-cooked burger. One of the ladies ordered the Salmon and a kale, Caesar salad. Everyone enjoyed their meal with no extra complaints. Good food, good conversations, great music and good vibes. The menu prices are a little high (for small portion food size) but I guess you pay for the quality and atmosphere. FYI ... The reservation is only for 90 minutes so use the time wisely. I was on a dj tour in Chicago for the weekend and a friend booked me to join him on a dj session at Bronzeville Winery. First time there and being vegan I was not familiar with the menu. I have dined here many times and enjoyed the experience, but the last several visits have shown a decline in service and ambience. The music has been far too loud the last few times we went and we couldn't even speak to one another across the table. This last week we stopped in after a show, expecting to grab a quick drink and maybe an appetizer or two. There was a 20 minute wait, which was fine. We sat at the bar after two other diners left, but the bar tender, whose backside and underwear greeted us first, never acknowledged that we were literally sitting there in front of him. There were so many people moving about, but not one person outside of the hostess at the door ever spoke to us or asked if we would like anything. The hostess never came back to get us for our table and after 30 minutes, we simply left. Perhaps it was because closing time was an hour and a half out. After three similar experiences, I can't see a reason to return. This was once our go-to spot, but that time has passed. read more

Drink selection was nice, I went with the Lolli lemon drop (I think that was the name) and it was really good. Also tried out an orange wine for the first time. The service was a bit slow to start, took about 20 minutes to get water, but once we we're acknowledged by our super sweet and apologetic waitress, the rest of the evening went smooth. I only tried the Brussels sprouts to eat because because I saw the word crispy along with a blood orange glaze that I was excited for, but unfortunately I wasn't a fan . Travelers from Atlanta, Ga made the decision to support a black-owned/woman-owned business in the community, excited to experience their unique cuisine and contribute to their success. However, our visit to the restaurant quickly became a disappointment. After ordering our food, we were informed that several items on the menu were already sold out, including both entrées and side dishes. To our surprise, they even ran out of doggie bags for customers to take home leftovers. In an effort to make amends for the inconvenience, the manager offered us a glass of wine as a gesture of goodwill. However, we felt that this offer was not enough to compensate for the shortcomings of our dining experience. Furthermore, the lack of communication from the management was evident when the manager approached our table without introducing himself, leaving us unaware of his role within the establishment. This lack of clarity added to our frustration and confusion during the course of our meal. In the end, we felt disappointed and let down by our visit to this particular restaurant, despite our initial intentions to show our support for a minority-owned business. Wonderfully spiced and full of flavor and different textures. We had a wonderful dinner here on Thursday night. Checked in around 7:30 with no reservations - the dining room was full, but we were invited to sit at the bar and ended up eating our meal there. We started with the Uncle Yam's Old Fashioned and P.H.T. - both delicious. For food, we ordered the Sprouts, which featured an amazing blood orange sesame glaze, and the Adobo Chile Fries, which came with both ketchup and garlic aioli. I never thought I would say this, but I don't think I'm ever going to come back here again. I've been a few times prior to this evening, and they all were great experiences--outstanding ones, as a matter of fact. But tonight was so polar of an opposite to the experiences I've had in the past, that I no longer wish to dine. From the very beginning, I knew we were going to have some issues. There was a line out of the door for people checking in--understandably so considering the Chosen Few festivities happening and what not. Me and my family overstood the circumstances and were flexible with our time and seat arrangements once we got in. We had to switch tables right after we put in our appetizer order. We were told that we'd have the same waiter. That wasn't the case, so we had to put in a whole new order--understandable. We ordered drinks. It took a while for us to get them--but we understood. Unfortunately, we lost our ability to be patient and understanding when we were told over the next three hours by 3 different people, the second being the owner, that our food was on the way. Our reservation was at 7:30pm. We left at 10:30pm after the third manager came to our table to offer us a drink as compensation for not having a dinner. We even asked for two orders of fries (a quick food item) to hold us over while we waited for our food--and we only got one of those. Mind you, parties who came in after us are getting their orders met and leaving while we were waiting for three hours only to be offered alcohol. To make matters worse, it kind of felt like the entire front of house knew about the issue and wasn't trying to be honest with us about the reality of the situation. I'd like to believe that this was a fluke, but I cannot overlook the fact that the OWNER looked me and my relatives in the eye and said our food would come out in 6-7 minutes, only for us to wait another hour for the bar manager to come over and offer us another "free round" of alcohol with no food in site. I came home and cooked a meal for my family faster than Bronzeville winery could lie to us and offer us cocktails. Heard of this place from the community and on TikTok--I am glad I was finally able to visit. It definitely exceeded the hype. Bronzeville Winery has amazing excellent service, and the vibes are immaculate. Our server, B, was great at checking in on us and giving recommendations. She was really friendly and made the experience feel really homey. I had the wine flight, which featured Black-owned vineyards and was definitely worth it. For apps, I had the Brussels sprouts, which were cooked to perfection (not overdone like they are most places). I was stunned by the seafood gnocchi, which was delicious. Like everything else, the presentation was amazing. Beyond the culinary experience, the restaurant is beautifully decorated if a bit unassuming from the exterior. There is also quite a bit of free parking on the street out front which is always nice if travelling from outside the immediate area. We visit quite a few black owned restaurants because we want to promote these businesses across different platforms and build out communities.. I really wanted to love this place and prove naysayers n my group wrong. This was our 2nd time here. For Brunch, although the staff was outstanding and even the owner stopped by, the food was awful. There's no other word for it. I sent my breakfast burger back twice and they could not cook it right. Unfortunately my brother and business partner was with us. He is also an executive chef. I was embarrassed. But he loved the ambiance of the place. The owner actually offered to make me a burger a third time but the chef had already lost my trust. We have been looking at small quaint restaurants to host our wedding and had settled on river roast downtown. But the ambiance of the place and the fact that it is in the community had me reconsidering. (Btw~ BW was actually more expensive to rent for the event than RR) So we decided to try dinner. Maybe a different chef would be the game changer..well here were the issues: First, your restaurant manager should not sit with your patrons conducting business back and forth in the dining area. Why was she not in an office? We were sat right next to her. It was loud as she spoke to someone on the phone and to other employees she had follow her to the table and more importantly it distracting from our date night. Up and down a total of 8 times. After the first two times we moved our table. However I was still facing her and was glad we made the decision to move our seat. Secondly, the waiter had to cover too many tables and two parties. He did not write our order down and forgot things. We didn't get bottled water on the table, we had to track down someone else for salt and pepper and trying to leave and pay the bill became an ordeal. If we weren't good people we would've left without paying. I was more upset by the fact we had to give a $20 tip. Which this is the second time and I have yet to see anything warning you that there is a automatic 20% gratuity. I definitely would not have tipped and felt forced to do so or create a scene. The same beautiful staff that was there during brunch was not present for dinner nor any of the owners. Whole vibe and attitudes were off but we tried to smile through it. Also, the ambiance of the restaurant go along with the way you should dress when you visit. We were over dressed looking at the staff in jogging suits, sagging pants, hoodies, etc.. why have we done away with uniforms and clothing check in restaurants. Why have an upscale restaurant if you allow your staff to dress like that? They represent you. Best foot forward. Third, the food...The biscuits were under cooked. Doughy on the inside, flavorless..they forgot my salad, then tried to bring it when I was half way through my dinner, we wanted more wine, again could not find our waiter and when found him, he was super busy....the salmon, although no seasoning, was cooked perfect. My food got cold, fish gets cold quickly, waiting to catch someone to ask for salt and pepper. I asked the waiter if the manager (the one walking back and forth) was made of the issues we had with the service and he said no. Hadn't even bothered to let her know. I did see her get up and resolve issues with a couple of tables where people sent their food back as well. So she was doing her job, but it was distracting being next to us. People had told me the restaurant food was bad but I like to try things myself.. I was disappointed that I could not counter their opinion with anything except agreement. read more
