I went here last month and honestly had one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a nail salon. My nails came out lumpy, uneven, and horribly shaped,they were filed down way too much to the point where the skin under my nails actually hurt. On top of that, they started chipping after just three days, which is ridiculous. The salon itself was also extremely dirty, there were piles of clutter everywhere, nothing looked sanitized, the tools were visibly dirty, and there was nail dust covering pretty much every surface. It felt really unhygienic and uncomfortable the entire time. I would give this place zero stars if I could. I don't know how on earth this place has four stars. read more

I made an appointment here on a whim last week, at about midnight the morning before the morning I was going to come in. I was having my car detailed right around the corner before a weekend away and figured, why not treat myself? I booked a facial (which I've never done before) and a gel mani-pedi on their website for first thing in the morning. They texted me as soon as they opened to adjust my appointment times and were extremely accommodating. The inside is very calm and clean and well-decorated. There is a really pretty flower-adorned back wall, too, so if you're an Instagram person you'll have a great back-drop for selfies in here. I ended up having my facial first, and WOW. Never realized they could be so relaxing! Helen was amazing. I seriously felt like I was in a trance for the rest of the appointment and my skin looked so fantastic and fresh. My mani-pedi was quick (which I appreciate so much, as I get antsy during those usually) but they did a fantastic job even with my little nails. Over a week later, and my nails are growing in but still no scratches, chips, or peeling whatsoever. Plus, their prices are very reasonable. I feel bad leaving a poor review, especially because I love supporting small business and have enjoyed manicures and pedicures here but I can NOT recommend waxing of any kind. This is because they double dip. If you don't know, double dipping is when they use the same (disposable) stick for 1 customer multiple times in the same pot of wax they use for every customer. This is *extremely* unsanitary. They do everything from eye brows to Brazilians and if I hadn't already been halfway through by the time I noticed, I wouldn't have gotten it. I got the Brazilian wax and at first all looked well but once I got home and did a proper inspection I realized there were huge spots missed, and not even in super hard to reach areas. I always expect to have to do a little cleanup of little hairs the wax couldn't pull but these spots were clearly just not gone over at all, and I ended up having to tweeze about 50 full-length hairs with the help of a hand mirror (easy to reach for another person, not so much on myself lol). Additionally, when I had called ahead to to make the appointment, I asked how much the Brazilian would be because they have the service on the website but no price listed online (and apparently not in the store either). The lady I spoke to said $55. One other time I'd come for a wax there had been a misunderstanding of the price so I made sure I repeated back to her the amount and she confirmed. However, when I finished with my wax and I said "$55, right?" she told me it was $65. I didn't want to make a big fuss so I just venmoed her it but then I got the courage to speak up and tell her that it's not the price she quoted me and it's not ok to do that. There were no other customers in the store so I wasn't trying to embarrass her, but I did want her to know that I knew what she was doing and it's not ok. She said oh no sorry for the misunderstanding I'll give it to you for $55 "this time"...I had already venmoed her $65 so I just kind of sheepishly hand her an extra $1 to make the 20% tip I had planned to give on top of the $55 service. Idk, it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I also had a $150 giftcard that was mostly used and when she helped me do the math on it from two previous visits ($54 mani/pedi & $89 olive pedi) it seemed like it was used up so I gave it to her to throw away. Once I got home and did the math myself I realized it had $7 left on it. Not the end of the world, but cumulatively, just wasn't a great experience. They are all lovely there but I felt like they were trying to pull one over the whole time and it makes me uncomfortable to think about it. Honestly, the women were so kind and attentive when I arrived, but this is one of the worst nail jobs I've ever had done. I got a dip manicure and paid $50. She took well over an hour and I have polish all over my skin and the dip powder is extremely thick and chunky. The sides of my nails are glued to the skin on my fingers. I do nails as a part time so I know what I want... but this was not what I asked for and honestly upset with how these came out. I rather them tell me they can't do it then try to attempt something they never did. I got a gel main and the coats and layers aren't even especially for the lighter color you can still see bumps and fuzz stuck to it... she cut my nails wait to short when she could've just filed it... but the design is literally what threw me off... not even what I had asked for. As for sanitary they reuse the disposable files and buffers instead of throwing them out for each customer. You're able to tell from the color of the files because they're literally dirty looking and not white. read more

I have never had an experience like this with dip. It took 45 minutes for them to remove the existing dip powder I had on and the two ladies were switching back and forth working on my nails, and it took two hours for the entire process. They also use a gel top coat on dip which I have never seen done before, and it started peeling off the next day. I also had dark powder all over the sides of my nails and on my fingers, and the dip didn't even cover my full nail. Early the next morning, my nails were already cracking and peeling. I called and they said to come back in. I came back in a couple nights later and they redid them, but they were already cracking, breaking and peeling off a few hours later. Ridiculous that I spent $65 to spend 4 hours in one week on nails that didn't even last a full 24 hours. read more

Horrible service, the woman insisted that I pay with Venmo even though they accept credit cards. In the middle of the manicure, other customers came in and the employee began to do a rush job. I asked for a refund because she botched my nails and she refused to give send me back the money over Venmo, stating she would do it later. Someone sent me a partial refund later but I'm still out nearly $60. I had to leave with botched nails and go to another salon (Hand and Heals Boutique on Harvard Ave. which I would highly recommend). Won't be going to Brookline Beauty ever again. I came in with a whole squad of my girlfriends for a pampering day of mani pedis, eyelash extensions, and general dishing about life and horrible exes (I mean, spas and salons are like cathartic church for that after all;). I ended up getting lash extensions and a gel manicure and left with a whole new (almost superpower) ability to bat my lashes like an Olympic pro. Gone are the days of gluing daily sets of false eyelashes on for special events and tearing off chunks of your own eyelashes when removing them at 2am, between eating pizza and throwing your socks on the ground after a long night (millennial adulting problems, I know). Ok, you'll still do the latter, but your eyelashes will look on fleek. I've always had pretty short, straight lashes and mascara and eye curlers don't do much for volume or lengthening, so I ended up getting the voluminous / dramatic lashes. Surprisingly, they ended up looking voluminous but not overly unnatural, which is just what I wanted -- something that passes as pseudo natural in the day and looks amazing at night with amped up eye makeup. The girl who gave me the lash extensions did a fantastic job -- she was super careful and meticulous with placement and the way they looked, and very gentle overall (important AF when doing anything near/on eyes). Not sure how long it took because I pseudo fell asleep, but I basically opened my eyes to a version of me that looks auto-awake. I absolutely loved them and couldn't wait to throw some eyeliner on after. Everyone here is super nice and welcoming (tea, coffee, Lindt chocolate, Green tea Kit Kats, or cookies, anyone?) and I'm in love with the (highly Instagrammable) flower wall in the back. It's a really modern white space decked with chandeliers and a gorgeous flower wall, and is pristine and clean - couldn't have asked for a better spot to do a girls day:D. My friends loved their nails, and I can't wait to go back for pampering day #2 (I'm prepped to make this a ritual lasting longer than 10 seasons of Lost;) read more

It took about two hours to get a dip manicure. With no tips. Then on top of it, the topcoat wasn't done correctly. So I had to go back. And when I did, they couldn't open the door to the store. Really not a great experience and would not recommend. I really hate to leave a bad review but for over $60 it's hard to justify that cost. read more

Thank you Brookline Beauty for the best mani/pedi I've had in Brookline :) This spa is great! I walked in on a weekday around 5pm and was able to be taken. I do think they would have appreciated me making an appointment first though (which I will next time and you should too!). The spa is extremely clean, bright, and quiet. Both women that I interacted with were extremely nice and considerate. My pedicure was relaxing and she used a delicious smelling scrub and lotion -- my shins/calves thank you! My gel manicure was just as good. My nail artist was very meticulous and I appreciated that very much. She really wanted to make sure that I had the best toenails & fingernails I could imagine. I couldn't believe the service that I received compared to other salons in Brookline/Boston. They don't pressure or rush you into choosing colors or add on items you don't want. The price is great and well worth it. They also have many specials/deals for loyalty members and referrals which I like. They don't have an excessive amount of colors to choose from but they definitely have the most basic colors every person would want. read more

Not an overly clean place to start out with. The pedicure was fine, but my major issue stemmed from the gel manicure I got. I had a gel manicure done on a Friday at 10am, and by midnight that same day the gel had completely peeled off of one of my nails. By 2pm the next day another nail no longer had any gel on it, and all other fingers had chipping and peeling gel. I request a refund via email, and was told I paid to the wrong venmo account, even though I scanned the QR code at the desk, I didn't hand type in the account name. Whoever I spoke to via email said that the tech at the salon at the time had supplied her own QR code that linked to her account, so she was the only one who could refund me. I tried calling and speaking to her a few times to no avail, and whoever runs the email address refused to help in any other way. They continued to insist that I call (which got me nowhere) or go back to the salon to talk to the tech in person (I don't live near the salon). So basically I spent $40 for a gel manicure that lasted 12 hours. I would suggest just picking another salon if you are looking to get a manicure that will last. read more

This place is clean, staff are friendly, and beautiful aesthetic inside. I happened to stumble upon as I was in the area and in need of a pedicure, and traffic prohibited me from wanting to go to my usual spot. They have a solid selection of nail colors, and my nail tech was gracious enough to help me decide between two colors by painting the two colors on my toes for me to show me which one I would like better. My nail tech was super friendly, gave a good firm massage, and did a great job with polish application. Nail utensils were sanitized and removed from an individualized sealed packet. You can judge a nail salon by their hygienic practices. She offered me tea/water before and after the appointment. Pedicure was $35, so not the cheapest, but they're currently running a promo 15% off pedi and mani's thru the end of May for students and teachers. So, when I kept walking by this salon (my dog walking route), and saw that they were seriously into safety, with acrylic dividers and mandatory masks and limited customers, I thought I'd give it a try and see if I felt safe. I was super happy with my experience here. Booking was very easy - I made an online appointment that was then confirmed via text. The salon itself is clean, spacious, and modern with lots of Instagram worthy design touches like a gorgeous flower wall and plush pedicure chairs. I opted for the gel mani + classic pedicure combo for $59 and was very pleased with how my nails came out. My nail techs were friendly but not overly chatty, which my introvert self always appreciates when getting a nail or hair service. In terms of COVID precautions, they had plexiglass dividers between each of the pedicure seats as well at each of the manicure desks, required masks + hand washing upon entering the salon, and copious hand sanitizer available. I went here to get my nails done as I was getting engaged that weekend and they DID NOT do a nice job. I asked for a more modern square french gel mani and she said she could do it but she couldn't. Instead of having someone else try she kept going and it turned out awful! Worst french manicure of my life and there was so much gel on my skin that it hurt. I was very upset as I was leaving town to get engaged 2 days later. I had to call back and explain how bad it was and beg them to fix it. I've been here a few times before and always want to support local businesses. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy my pedicure today, didn't feel like a treat. Hardly any water in the bowl, kind of rushed no hot towel or anything. Once my polish was done and drying, payment was taken. The technician asked me across the room how much tip I was adding. I always tip but to be asked outright in front of other customers wasn't great. I said 20% but then when my nails dried they were patchy. I don't live close, but was having my car serviced down the street and decided to get a pedicure instead of waiting at dealership. I had such a positive and wonderful experience here that I would definitely travel semi weekly to have this be my regular salon. My nail tech was absolutely incredible and meticulous, as well as super kind and personable. I normally go to MiniLuxe in south end and pay extra because i thought they were the best, but they don't even come close to Brookline Beauty Nails, plus 1/2 the price. These two women who run this nail salon are extremely kind. They have done my nails for my wedding and they came out beautifully and lasted a really long time.
