What a treat!!! I noticed the nail shop across the street from my hotel. Moreover, I got one of the best manicures and pedicures ever. I have a great gal in Houston, so it was a personal conflict to let anyone else do my nails. However, we had been traveling for almost three weeks, so my nails were quite grown out. Our hotel front desk called them, so they graciously squeezed me in. I am very picky and particular about how my nails are done, but I didn't have to give much direction. My nails were just done right. The shop is clean, not fancy, and the warmth and professionalism of the technicians gave me the confidence that I had made a sound decision to get my nails done away from home. My nails look great and feel wonderful at a comfortable price point. I highly recommend this shop. read more

My pedicure was good done by the owners husband. My facial was done in 15 minutes including waxing my eyebrows and lip . It was rushed and I didn't get my monies worth . My pedicure that was also done by the owner Katie was also rushed . Some dead skin was left on and you can see it if you zoom in my nail picture. . Parking is an absolute nightmare. read more

Very disappointed with the dip manicure I got here. Since I was in the area, I stopped in around 3pm on Friday and it was empty. That should have been the first warning sign. One nail tech came out from the back and worked on my nails. She used a nail clipper that was just sitting on the table. The dip was clumpy as she was doing the layers and there was minimal shaping/filing of the nails. All the nails on my right hand are longer than my left. Another customer walked in mid way through so she sent me to a different table where a random man came out of the back in a Sullivan tire hoodie with grime under his nails. He did 2 layers of clear gel on top. That obviously came out uneven. The total came out to $55. My usual salon charges $40 for a dip. I will be going home to file my jagged nails and clean up my cuticles. If you are in the area go elsewhere. read more

Pretty disappointed after coming to get my nails cleaned. Had a rly good experience the first time and thought I'd come back for just a simple cleaning but don't think I can recommend this place. I don't use nail polish because I sanitize my hands a lot for work making them dry. But the employee didn't even use cuticle remover, warm water, or clean under my nail beds, and put on lotion after I had to ask for it. My nails were also cut unevenly. Pictures were taken a few minutes after I left. Maybe if you know which worker you like you'd have a better experience than me. Didn't expect perfection but just thought that I should have gotten the full service that I paid for. read more

I stopped here for the first time and the service was exceptional. Kati was very friendly, welcoming and definitely is very attentive to detail. Because I have dip powder, and wanted a fill, she helped me find the best way to go about the fill since many places do not do fills for dip powder. Here, customers are treated with upmost professionalism. There are a ton of colors to choose from, and the space seems very clean. The result was amazing. One positive: quiet salon But everything else a disappointment: no tub liners no single-use utensils, individually packaged and pre-sterilized mediocre selection of nail polish no air-conditioner, and it was 85 degrees and humid out And the most disgusting part, a staff member (owner's daughter, maybe?) who was reading a magazine while propping her bare feet on one of the work stations. Wish the town Health Inspector had walked in to see that. It's pretty standard practice these days to have disposable tub liners and pre-packaged equipment. I was surprised and disappointed that this salon doesn't invest in better hygiene. Certainly no one should put dirty feet on a table. read more

In October of 2009 I was forced to divorce/boycott a nail salon due to the greediness of the owner. Since then I have been to DOZENS of nail salons trying to find a salon that I would like. I have been to places in Dorchester, Brookline, Quincy and various other parts of Boston. Since the divorce I have not gone back to a salon twice. But in Brookline Nail design I think I have found my new home. 1. The salon has great decor. I am easily skeeved out by cheesy decor and have walked out of several places because they look cheesy. 2. They are clean and anybody who reads my reviews know that things need to be CLEAN. 3. The girls that work there are well dressed well and present themselves professionally. 4. I got a mani/pedi and it took neither to long nor was it rushed. 5. I like square nails and they shaped my nails nicely. 6. The owner of the salon brought in his children's nanny to get a mani/pedi while I was there and I thought this was darling. 7. This place is a family business, Cathy and Christine and they are very professional. The place is pristine clean! They have, I think, 4 pedicure whirlpool massage chairs, all new and they do a great pedicure complete with massage. They use all sterilized tools and clean towels etc, extremely clean environment!. The manicure is just as professional and thorough. Decided to try Brookline Nail Design after reading Mairead's favorable review, and I have to agree with her on many points. Everything seems clean, there was good color selection, and everyone was very professional. My mani only last about 3 days, but the nail tech (didn't catch her name) did an excellent job shaping my nails and taming my cuticles. The pedicure still looks shiny and new, and my toenails are just the right length. The parking situation confused me a bit given a sign warning people that their cars would be towed 6am-6pm or something like that. I went on a Sunday, but I was sure to confirm with the young ladies at the salon that I'd be OK parking there. Mani/Pedi $35 Note: You can pay with a card, but tips are cash only. They were really sweet about me showing up without cash and let me know that I could cover it during my next visit. Based on high yelp reviews, came in with a friend on a Saturday for a mani/pedi. There were several things wrong, and I'll never go back. We called ahead to ask if they had availability before we walked over, and we were told to come right over. When we arrived, they seemed understaffed - there were two young girls in the shop while their parents were the ones working - that's just fine, family business, and the girls helped with some minor tasks (filling pedi tubs) then went back to reading quietly. However, the parents seemed annoyed that we were there, and the service was brusque. The worst part is that we did not see them sterilize their tools, and THEY USED THE SAME UNWASHED TOOLS ON MY FRIEND AND ME. We'd wanted a mani pedi, but after the pedi, they didn't ask if we wanted a mani, and after seeing their sterilization practices, we certainly did not. Gross gross gross. The only positive of this place: cheap. I came in looking for a gel/shellac manicure and they said they would take me right away. I ask for the color selection, and they pointed me to a teeny section in the glass cabinet that I could not see any of the colors. I am a gal who likes to see all the choices before I decide so this was my first strike. I ask to see them, and the girl sees my nails are black (never before, never again) and insists that I want to get a dark color. I continually told her that I wanted a different color and I wanted to see the selections. They finally pulled them out of the case, dark colors, or pinks/reds. Disappointing selection. But it's Sunday at 3pm so I'm going to have to settle. The owner/manager of the salon keeps calling me "honey" which I find to be VERY condescending (especially from a woman wearing 4 David Yurman bracelets on one arm). I take a seat and after I have soaked off all my previous polish, and scrapeed it myself, someone FINALLY comes over to complete my manicure. The seat was uncomfortable, and the counter space too small for their UV dryers, so I was very uncomfortable the whole time. When I said something, the woman sheepishly replied "sorry" and continued with what she was doing. While I was being waited on, a woman came in for a 3pm appointment. There had since been a rush and the owner/manager said she would have to come back another time. The customer, understandably so, was upset! That is the point of an appointment after all. The owner/manager (Lynn, I believe) was very rude to this woman as well. After three coats of polish on my nails (the only other plus of the experience), I look down to see that it looks as though I let an 8 year old boy paint my nails. I speak up about this as well, and the woman starts to fixing it with acetone. The manager/owner comes over and instructs her to add another coat of polish and top coat. More satisfied, but still not up to par. I paid by credit card, and tip was not included so I had to get cash. I asked for change for a $20, and the owner/manager gave me a $10 and 2 $5's. I guess she had to ensure herself and her employee at least a $5 tip. A bit presumptuous, no? I was so excited to leave this place that I forgot my cell phone. Then I had to go back. A gem! I have been coming to this place for years and really like the current owners! They do regular nail polish and the gels with a nice selection of colors. The owner also does eye brow waxing and neck/should massages sitting up. I love the automated massage chairs for the pedicures. They are great about both walk in and appointments. I haven't had any trouble finding on street parking near them. They are located very near the Boston Interiors and Dunkin Donuts on Route 9 near the Brookline Village fire station. Terrible idea to try a new place the day before vacation. But I was desperate -- running late from work and promised my daughter I'd take her for a mani/pedi. Called around and this was the only place with availability. They took us promptly and my pedicure was nice. However, gel mani was super rushed and my nails look terrible. Color is uneven, wrinkled, and stuck onto my cuticle in several places. Worse, already chipped less than 24hrs later. Leaving for vacation, so can't get it fixed now. This will teach me to cheat on my regular place (even though it's 25min away from my house!) read more

Favorite nail salon in Brookline! I've been coming here for about 3 years and have been consistently satisfied with the service. The salon is clean, nicely decorated, and pretty quiet. The ladies are all very friendly and really take their time (without taking way too long), whether it's to help you find the perfect color, shaping your nails, or applying the polish. Pedicures are also really good quality with a great massage. Prices are reasonable, great results, and nice owners. Can't ask for much more than that! read more

The woman who did my nails did a fantastic job with my nail design. I brought in a photo for an example & she nailed it. My complaint is that my nails are nowhere near the shape that I wanted them to be. I said long and pointy (stiletto nails) & she slightly shape mine then rounded them where they should have came to a point. The environment of the store was ok. It was dead silent until two of the coworkers would speak to each other when deciding who gets which customer. I didn't intend on getting gel nail polish but the woman who did my nails said that the only way she could get the design to come out as well as she could would be to use gel. She only charged me $5 instead of the normal $18. That was really nice of her. read more

Awful. I stopped in here because it was close to my home and had good reviews. I asked for some nail art, which Yelp reviews led me to believe this place could do, but they absolutely butchered it. The lines the tech drew were not at all straight, and looked messy and unprofessional. Also, she chopped up my cuticles so much that they were worse than when I came in! Most importantly, by the time she got to the top coat (gel), the tech got ridiculously sloppy -- there was top coat all on my cuticles, on my skin under my nail, it was awful. She had to cut chunks off with a cuticle nipper, then file them off with a file. My nails and cuticles were disgusting afterward, and when I told her my complaints she just dumped some cuticle oil on my hands, even though I told her I was on my way to work -- she didn't even think to offer me a napkin or towel (she thought I'd just go to work with oily drippy hands?). I've only been here once, as of today, but it's close to my house and is very affordable so I can see myself coming back many more times to pamper myself. I came here with a friend for a pampering since her birthday was the next day and we haven't caught up in awhile. The place is small, but what a gem! The water for my pedicure was a tad cold, but they were happy to turn it up for me (what can I say, I have chronically cold feet!). A young man did my pedicure and was very meticulous-- I was pleased because I know I've neglected getting a pedicure for awhile and didn't do the upkeep because of being too darn busy and stressed. A very kind gentleman was very efficient at taking care of my friend and I was a little jealous of his massage technique! A woman came in and started on my nails and I felt like a total princess being primped from finger tip to toes! I loved that they asked how I preferred my nails cut, and that it wasn't strange for me to ask for them to stay on the longer side (let me tell you, some of the places I've been on Newbury have either turned up their nose or given me the side eye for wanting my nails long but even). Beautiful shaping, and no snide comments about my toe nails being super short (which happens frequently to me during pedicures because the one thing I can't stand are long toe nails!). It was so pleasant and wonderful, and pleasantly quiet. I could chat with my friend and catch up without being bothered one bit. It was so lovely, and a great change from many of the other salons I've been where between music and technicians chatting loudly to each other it feels deafening. I like being able to have a quiet conversation with my friend while getting a mani/pedi! They got us done at the same time so we could sit together while our nails dried and continue chatting. That to me, is great service-- I've been hustled and bustled all around with other salons but not here. It was relaxing. It was lovely. If every trip is as great as the first one, they'll definitely be a 5 star rating in my book! Quiet, relaxing, calm. That's what I needed, and it's a lovely surprise that's often overlooked at nail salons. Apparently they also do eyebrows wonderfully very affordably, so I'm going to need to schedule an appointment for that too and try it out! Couldn't have gone better today at the salon. Went in for a winter pedicure and left very happy. Space was empty and two workers got right to it to ensure it was a great experience. Water in my foot soaker got cold quickly, but I asked and they happily added more hot water. Mike took his time on my feet and gave a great massage. He made sure his nail polish was immaculate when it reached my toes. Great experience. Will be back. read more
