I came here for the first time Thursday evening with somewhat low expectations. That's my bad for underestimating Brooklyn Cafe. We ordered the fried green tomatoes to start off and a couple old fashioneds. While their main focus is wine, they do have basically a full bar and they pour heavy! This happens, a relatively suck place to eat, gets a great neighborhood following because staff is friendly and the food is almost palatable. No one is getting poisoned, the food does not smell spoiled, but with a little training, my Pittie could put out better tasting and better looking food. I am not being a jerk because anyone in the cafe was mean. Everyone was accommodating and nice, but your food is so lackluster, I asked my party if they wanted to go to Sonic. My son and I stopped in for a late lunch, after seeing it on Yelp. I wasn't sure I went in the right door, since there wasn't anyone at the front, and it didn't really look like a front entrance (no podium/ counter etc). It took a minute to get greeted, after I flagged someone, and asked if we were at the right entrance lol. It was a bit disappointing not to be greeted properly, after years in hospitality, but I have a lot of patience. We were sat at a booth, and then greeted by a really nice man named Luis. He got our waters quickly, and said our server would come. She did, and was super sweet and friendly (Naz was her name). I asked her suggestions for favorites, and asked her a million questions, being it was our first time. She stayed very patient and helpful. She was sweet with my son and talked to him about his cars. I decided on the "awesome fish sandwich", which was grilled mahi w a dill tarter like sauce, red onion, lettuce, and tomato. I subbed the crispier ciabatta roll instead of the bun. The char grilled taste on the fish was overpowering, and honestly it lacked flavor. I added hot sauce and salt, and Naz brought me extra dill sauce. It was okay. Not horrible, but still not great. It seemed fresh and the bread was great, but just lacked flavor. The summer corn as my side was good. Simple but flavorful. I may try another sandwich or salad and soup if we go back. My son got the cheeseburger with cheddar and fries. There wasn't a physical kids menu, but Naz repeated it for me. The burger was huge-- like an adult sized burger that he couldn't even finish half of. He loved it and seemed good quality on a brioche bun. Fries were good. We decided to take half our sandwiches to go, and tried the key lime pie as a special treat. Naz assured me there were no food dyes in it (my sons allergic), and said it's house made. I forget what all she said now, but someone's wife is a bakery chef. The pie was a huge piece and the pecan-graham (?) crust was absolutely amazing! It was tart and delicious, like real key lime pie should be. We took half of that to go too lol. Our bill came out to $30. The patio seemed pretty busy, but inside wasn't busy at all for being 2:30p (Saturday). The place isn't much to lookout inside. Pretty causal. Causal to more upscale type food. 30 Upon sitting at the bar I noticed that the bartender was very occupied with watching the game. More-so, than servicing me. I ordered a glass of wine and had to ask for water. Usually, when I eat at a restaurant with such great reviews, they offer me water with my alcoholic beverage. He was very concerned with what I do as a profession, as that was one of his first questions. I guess because I am black. When I told him that I am a massage therapist he CONGRATULATED me and made an expression to another customer at the bar, which he knew by first name, and they laughed. It was insulting to me. He was old enough to be a grandfather but remained a professional bartender instead of choosing a profession that could have landed him a Pension, so that made me laugh. This was our first visit to the Brooklyn Cafe on the recommendation of one of our Emory nurses. From the moment we walked in the door, the service was impeccable. Jerome, our server, provided a detailed description of the specials and recommendations from the lunch menu as well. We decided on the crab cake and the shrimp salad, and were delighted with the quality! Just found my new favorite place. Brooklyn Cafe was like a family friendly cheers. The bartender knew so many people by name and their usual drinks and greeted everyone that walked in the door. My waitress Kenley was super attentive and sweet and kept checking on me even in the midst of the lunch rush. Every single employee that walked by stopped to ask how my day was going from other waiters and waitresses, to the hosts, to the people bringing out the food. Everyone was so warm and welcoming and worked together as a team to ensure excellent customer service during a busy lunch hour and also showed care and kindness. I just knew I would love Brooklyn Cafe and am kicking myself that I haven't become a regular diner here sooner!! How'd I have such a certainty it'd be right up my alley? Well, a longtime fave GM of my old preferred Houston's is now the owner and I'd heard that Jeff had taken his spin on a number of my most beloved dishes and put them on the Brooklyn Cafe menu . . . and indeed, he has! With excellent results, no less. Stopped in last week while The Boy had a sales call at another spot in the complex and had a most pleasant visit with my server Heather, and even better, enjoyed the amazing artichokes. Verdict: BETTER than the ones I love at Houston's, AND they're on the menu all the time not just as a special. Another plus is that there are just two in the dish, so not only is it a little less expensive but it's a more friendly serving-size for one/me. I'm in love! Great wine list (I did find it interesting that Jeff chose not to serve the very popular at Houston's Peachtree Sthulmuller Chardonnay by the glass, just by the bottle) and lots of things I can't wait to return to try . . . the smoked salmon app and a sandwich that looks strikingly like the tasty Biltmore. There are a number of things totally different from Houston's though, so don't get the idea that it's some carbon copy! A great selection of salads - one with goat cheese and cranberry I have my eye on- and a yummy looking gazpacho plus a bisque that is awesome. And, they let you have dogs on the patio - bonus!! I took business associates to dinner and kenley waited on us. Service was okay, not great and I left a 15 percent tip. When I looked at the receipt to turn it in at work in order to expense it I realized a 20 percent tip also been included without my knowledge . Been coming here for years one of our favorite local restaurants. Def caters to the silver hair crowd...food is always fresh . Some of the dishes need a little tune ups.. great grilled lamb chops but the do need some sort of sauce.. that said we had fantastic gazpacho. And then the panko crusted grouper special was the best dish we ever had here, possibly one of the best fish dishes we ever had anywhere! This was the best! Great customer service, you feel very welcomed. Tried the filet mignon salad and the steak was perfect. Tender and marinated well, hint of sweetness that balanced well the salad dressing. My friend got the scallop special that evening and the way it was advertised she thought she would receive a bed of veggies with the risotto, but instead there were only hints of the veggies described within the risotto. Stopped by 01/13/23 for dinner, saw the good reviews and decided to give it a shot but were very disappointed. Service was good, food came out quick, and portions were well sized but that was the extent of what was good. We ordered the avocado egg rolls, the lobster bisque, short ribs, and lamb chops. The avocado egg rolls were okay at best sauce didn't really taste of tamarind. The lobster bisque was sickeningly sweet. However we were the most disappointed by the entrees. I am a big fan of highlighting ingredients and don't generally need to season anything tremendously but It seemed as if they forgot to season completely and I was really longing for some salt and pepper shakers at the table. Lamb was tough and the only flavor was the char, could not taste anything else. Flavors were flat and overall only tasted of butter and fat. The chopped herbs were dry and clearly had been chopped a long time ago as they did not provide anything. We were really hungry so we ate about half our food but once we weren't starving anymore the food became even worse. Ideally visiting a restaurant should make me want to keep eating even if I'm starting to get full. Ambience was lacking and the lighting made the food look even more grey. Will not be adding this restaurant to our rotation. read more

The reservation on open table was easy, and it was only about a ten minute wait for a table. However we were seated outside on their covered patio with heaters, which would have been fine if the door to the outside area would have been kept closed in 40 degree weather. And about half the time the servers were the ones who did not close the door, so every five minutes I had to stand and swing the door shut. It got really cold fast if it was left open. The menu options are so so, no pasta and I am not a big meat eater. Easy addition of a pasta. My husband had the salmon which was a huge portion, and good but not great, he said Seasons 52 has much better flavor. I had the Jacks Chicken with rice and creole cream sauce. I would rate it "very good". The wine and beer selections are good. While our waitress, Megan, was five stars. She had great recommendations for wine, beer, dinner and sides. I am soooo pissed off with Brooklyn Cafe right now as I sit in your parking lot after walking out!!! I was in Duluth and going to Canton at 3:00 and was craving your Turkey Sandwich. So I said I am going to go out of my way to feed my craving. I passed over 100 restaurants I could have stopped at. It took me over an hour in bumper to bumper traffic to get to your restaurant. I was seated at 4:20 and given a menu. I did not see the Turkey Sandwich on the menu so when the waitress arrived I told her I just traveled over an hour in the opposite direction just to have this Turkey Sandwich I was told sorry that was on our LUNCH MENU. This is our DINNER MENU. I said you are joking right? She asked an associate and said sorry they won't do the Turkey Sandwich at dinner. Are you freaking kidding me?
