Roasted chickpea and avocado salad with grilled chicken

After seeing the positive reviews, I was really excited to try this place. We ordered a salad and sub, both which were underwhelming. I will say the staff were very friendly, and their pizza looked great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We went on a Friday night and the place was mobbed, which makes me think you should really stick to pizza here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat down inside (there are a few tables inside though it's a very small place).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Halloween decorations were a bit over the top but that could just be a personal bias![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

All of the interior except 3 booths.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Though the food was overall good, I really was not digging the whole ambience of this place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's mostly a takeout joint that apparently has some really good pizza. My wife ordered an empanada and they're crazy bread. I must say that the crazy bread was tasty. My salad with grilled chicken was OK overall. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we walked in and saw only three booth, we should've just went to the place next-door.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I must say, while we were there, there were plenty of people getting pizza to go.

    Atlantic Ave vegan bomb sub

I tried Brooklyn Heights for lunch yesterday because I was excited to see some vegan items listed on the menu and wow it was delicious! I got the vegan antipasto salad (chickpeas, tomato, banana peppers, red onions, kalamata olives, artichoke hearts, peppers, romaine, basil and herb oil) and the Atlantic Ave vegan bomb sub (LTO, roasted red peppers, mushrooms, cilantro-garlic fries, banana peppers, vegan cheese, pepper-jalapeno and cilantro sauces). The salad was heaped with fresh ingredients, I just wish it came with more dressing (maybe some more vinegar with the herb oil?). The sub was amazing - super messy and difficult to figure out how to eat but loaded with flavor and they certainly didn't skimp on any of the components! I ate most of the garlic herb fries straight off the top and they were some of my favorite fries I've ever tried, the garlic really packs a punch! I definitely recommend eating in if you order the sub because it starts losing structural integrity almost immediately and you don't want to take home a soggy sandwich. The staff were friendly and I really enjoyed my messy meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The shop is small but they have a couple tables - most of their business seems to be to-go slices and pies.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I will definitely be back to try the vegan stromboli!

    Gyro - outstanding!

Tried this place just tonight, and I'm so glad I did. I got a gyro and a slice of pepperoni pizza, and my teenager got a slice of cheese pizza. The pizza is outstanding. Super thin crust with just the right amount of flop. Good cheese/sauce ratio. The pepperonis were very tasty -- and they did not just put a bunch of pepperonis on a cheese slice like some places do. They reheated the slices, which gave them a little extra crisp. My kid so enjoyed her slice that she ordered a second one. But let's talk about the gyro. It was a Greek-American style gyro, but not your standard sub shop gyro. Thing was huge. Big slabs of delicious meat. The cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes all super fresh. The tzatziki sauce was ample and the flavor spot on. The fries were hot and very crispy. Easily the best Greek-American style gyro I've had in years. I believe I used most of their paper napkin supply. I should probably go back and apologize for that. The service was great! Everyone was super friendly. The gentleman making the pizzas (the owner?) checked in on us to make sure everything was good, which was appreciated. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is pretty small, only three booths, but we were able to get one.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] No Coke or Pepsi: they had mostly craft sodas -- which I generally like. All in all, great food, great experience. So glad we gave them a try: I will definitely be back!

    Chicken Caesar Salad Pizza

My friends & I got a large order of apps & pizza from here on Sunday night & they absolutely did not disappoint. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The establishment was clean & the staff was extremely friendly the moment we walked in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Out of the 5 different specialty pizzas we ordered, we had ZERO complaints. Wish we lived closer so we could return sooner!

We were pleasantly surprised that there were plenty of open tables inside and outside. What we didn't know is that there is pressure to place your order at the counter because there was about a 40 minute wait for food because the kitchen was switching over and finishing up after breakfast. The staff were friendly but there was a busy vibe and I wouldn't say they were particularly helpful - mostly because of no dedicated spot for lining up to order and the woman behind the counter kept instructing people to move the line back so that the food could get carried through. It felt like the person in charge of directing traffic (and there was a young man in charge of this!) should have been enforcing the spot, the printed menus should be moved to this spot instead of on a post in the middle of the "food carrying zone," and that person should also point patrons in the direction of the many specials boards. As they dubbed themselves, "Sandwich's sandwichery," I ordered the Mother Hen sandwich- I was drawn to the avocado and bacon. It was served on a ciabatta style roll and was very tasty. I ordered my sandwich "light on the herb mayo" as I'm not always a mayo gal. It could have used more. I was also tempted by the GIANT pastries they had on display but didn't want to go overboard on day one of vacation. As we sat waiting for our food, we saw lots of people coming in for take out as well as ordering to eat-in. Families, large groups, couples, and solo diners all seemed accommodated. I noted it would probably be a fun place to grab sandwiches to go and eat at the beach or some other outdoor place. During this time I also noticed several other specials that looked really intriguing but in my panic to get an order in, I missed the signs entirely. If you are in, or passing through Sandwich, MA, definitely check out Cafe Chew!

I was bringing lunch back for a friend, so I ordered two different sandwiches so we could each sample both. Of course I had the chicken Parm, and the other was the Bronx Tale. I ordered four "sangwiches"--pork and rabe, chicken cutlet and rabe, and Italian hoagies--and every single one was outstanding. In fact, Nana's immediately became one of my "must-stop" places every time I came to the Cape. Sadly, that was not my recent experience. Before writing this review, I tried contacting Nana's twice through their website and also reached out through Facebook and Instagram. After waiting two weeks without a single response, I'm reluctantly posting this instead. On my latest visit, I stopped in between breakfast and lunch, figuring I'd picked the perfect time. There were only three customers in the restaurant. I stood at the sandwich counter for nearly 20 minutes while the sandwich crew and what appeared to be a manager carried on a conversation. I was standing directly in front of them, yet no one acknowledged me. Just as I was about to walk out, their meeting ended and someone finally took my order. I was disappointed to hear there was no pork and rabe available, so I ordered a chicken cutlet and rabe sandwich along with Italian hoagies. I specifically discussed the long hot peppers with the cashier because they were one of the things I loved most about my previous visit. I didn't mind waiting because I could see the cutlets being fried fresh and the broccoli rabe being heated. Fresh food done right is worth waiting for. Unfortunately, the sandwiches were nothing like I remembered. The chicken cutlet was perfectly fried, but everything else fell flat. The broccoli rabe was long, stringy, and difficult to chew. After one bite, the entire pile of rabe pulled out of the sandwich in one piece. That also let me taste it by itself--and it tasted like...water. No garlic. No olive oil. None of the slight bitterness that good broccoli rabe should have. Just bland. The bread was another huge disappointment. Instead of the crusty Italian bread I remembered, it was served on a soft, doughy roll that completely changed the sandwich. And despite specifically requesting the long hot peppers, there weren't any. No peppers. No seasoning. Just a fried cutlet and flavorless greens on dry bread. It was a waste of what could have been an excellent sandwich. Then came the Italian hoagie. It was honestly one of the most disappointing Italian sandwiches I've ever had. Again, it came on the same soft hoagie roll. There was a light smear of dressing, the cold cuts, and two paper-thin slices of tomato. No lettuce. No onions. No hot peppers. Barely any dressing. Nothing that makes an authentic Italian hoagie memorable. I honestly think I've had better Italian sandwiches from Subway. I kept hoping this was simply the result of summer help, inexperienced staff, or just an off day. But after making multiple attempts to contact management and never receiving a response, I'm left wondering if Nana's has changed owners, if quality standards have slipped, or if customer feedback simply isn't important anymore. It's genuinely disappointing because I know how good Nana's used to be. That's what makes this review so difficult to write. You earned a loyal customer once. If you ever return to making the sandwiches you were serving in 2025--with authentic bread, properly seasoned ingredients, careful attention to orders, and the quality that first impressed me--I'd gladly come back. Until then, I can't honestly recommend Nana's as an authentic Italian-American sandwich shop. Right now, it feels more like an average American sandwich shop charging premium prices. Thank you for the wonderful sandwiches you once made. I sincerely hope you find your way back to them.

Instead of addressing the concern directly, the response focuses on how long they've been in business and labels my explanation as "shallow." Customers deserve transparency and accountability, especially when it involves their money. A few months ago now, a friend and I stopped into Sandwich Taverna for dinner and drinks at the bar. The experience seemed fine at the time, but a few days later my bank reached out because the tip added to my bill was highly unusual...a 42% tip, far above the 20% ($9.50) I originally wrote in. I immediately called Sandwich Taverna. They told me the manager would look into it and assured me it was probably an honest mistake. They did end up reversing the entire tip, but still claimed it was accidental. I'm not sure how you accidentally change a $9.50 tip to $20, and it's concerning that the bartender responsible still works there. It makes me wonder how many people haven't noticed or haven't been notified by their bank. Just a heads-up for anyone visiting: check your receipts and your statements carefully.
