Our go to place for food & fun the past couple years. We've tried most the menu & of course we like some offerings more than others, but the nachos, prime rib, spanakopita, or huge mudslides are always great. Daughter always gets ice cream & son loves their big dessert cookie! Bar & "tavern" restaurant staff are always smiling & say "hey guys" when we pop in & of course we love Tony on his nights. The owner's response is telling. The issue was never about whether the tip was reversed...it was however about how a $9.50 tip became $20 in the first place and the lack of ownership around that. Instead of addressing the concern directly, the response focuses on how long they've been in business and labels my explanation as "shallow." Customers deserve transparency and accountability, especially when it involves their money. A few months ago now, a friend and I stopped into Sandwich Taverna for dinner and drinks at the bar. The experience seemed fine at the time, but a few days later my bank reached out because the tip added to my bill was highly unusual...a 42% tip, far above the 20% ($9.50) I originally wrote in. I immediately called Sandwich Taverna. They told me the manager would look into it and assured me it was probably an honest mistake. They did end up reversing the entire tip, but still claimed it was accidental. I'm not sure how you accidentally change a $9.50 tip to $20, and it's concerning that the bartender responsible still works there. It makes me wonder how many people haven't noticed or haven't been notified by their bank. Just a heads-up for anyone visiting: check your receipts and your statements carefully. read more

Been here once before but remembered it as being really good and it did not disappoint. He had the burger and I had the chicken gyro.. both delicious. We sat at the bar and the beautiful bartender was just wonderful.. I know I'm going to mess up her name.. Shanay I think. Anyway she was just attentive enough to make sure we needed nothing. Walked in and was nearly overwhelmed by how noisy it was. And it was festooned with those disgusting TV screens tuned to every imaginable trash plus Keno. Would have left on the spot, but we had a $50 gift card. We ordered an expensive bowl of lobster bisque intending to share it. We both immediately noticed it tasted as if it had vinegar in it and sent it back. My wife had fried chicken - actually deep friend, not pan-fried as "Southern fried chicken" should be. I had ribs, which were dry and slathered with spicy sauce - no choice of sauces offered, in fact no condiments of any type were offered or on the table. The ribs came with cold mashed potatoes and probably canned pickled beets. We won't return. read more

The food is fine. Not fine dining but a good solid meal. My special needs daughter loves to go to the Taverna to line dance. I usually go with her. I didn't last week and when she paid her bill for chicken fingers and Cole slaw and cake she had just enough. Her server called her out for not tipping. She was loud and made a scene. My daughter was so embarrassed. I had a friend there and they tipped the server in my stead although I doubt I'd have tipped at this point. We will never order anything more than water on Tuesdays (line dancing night) again. Water has to be given and there should be no tipping expected. We will not patronize this place again. Went here a couple times and the burgers are good but tried the southern fried chicken and it was really bad. It tastes like Banquet chicken out of the box but deep fried till it's dried out. Was back on Cape Cod for 3 weeks, doing some renovations on my son's and his fiances house in Sandwich. Visited the Taverna multiple times with the family and on my own. Each visit was 5 Stars...great service, nice atmosphere, great food...especially the 2 times I ordered the fish n chips! Even with a horrific event to a family members own Restaurant, also in Sandwich, was treated like Family on every trip in! Had some luck even with Keno! Will definitely be back when back on the Cape! Service was ok. Went there on Saturday evening. Ordered a stuffed scrod/ scallop dinner with 2 sides. The sides were very good. Mashed potato and butternut squash. The fish and scallops were just weird..rubbery, not tasty..almost yuck. The unsweetened iced tea had a terrible after taste. My friend's wrap and fries were good, and beef was good. My family and I were very excited to try this place but will not be returning after the horrible customer service we received on 2/25. We were eventually greeted by our waitress Sadie H., after being seated for 40 minutes already. She offered no apologies for the wait, and had a poor and inattentive attitude throughout the whole experience. We overheard Sadie making inappropriate comments to others as well. Came here for a line dance event in the summer. Hostess was no where to be found, waited at the door for over 5 min. Someone came and they too looked around and when the hostess finally showed up she had no clue what to do. I had to ask for a table and direct her to get us menus and a table. It was really weird. Like was she high? She claimed there were no tables near the line dance but a waitress found us a spot. We thought this would be our waitress but it wasn't. Ours took over 20 minutes to get to our table and give us menus and she refused to get my boyfriend and I a beer till she could look at his ID, so then that took longer because he forgot his wallet in the car, all while my sugar was dropping and it seemed like everything delayed us to order food. Our food took forever, ordering a 2nd beer took forever mostly because we could not find our waitress. It wasn't that busy it was like classic busy for an establishment in cape cod in the summer during the week. Seemed liked they had enough staff, maybe not? The food was good, beer was good choices. Went in recently with my daughter, the place was empty aside from a couple of tables. Our server seemed miserable she had to serve us and even brought us to-go containers halfway through our meal when we were still eating. Then she brought by the check. I took the hint and we wrapped our food and ate the rest at home. The food itself was excellent so it's a shame that this was our experience. Decided to try it again a couple of weeks later with my entire family and we had a different server. The new server was equally as displeased to have a table and we had very poor service once again. Ok, you have a local bar, go with it, they are great people. They have good "bar food". But, but, they have great "real" food too. I always get a burger (great) and the spicy steak bomb (awesome) or pizza (no complaints). But they have some decent high end food too. I got the chicken piccata tonight (was risky but worth the try) it was incredible-enough for dinner and lunch and at $24 well worth the price. Don't discount this place! read more

Went to eat tonight with my daughter. I work in the industry (20+ years), i am usually the EASIEST customer. I know how it is. But i came in with my daughter at 6 pm, there were probably a total of 9 tables sat... staggered.. as i watched some come some go. I understand kitchens get busy but i ordered everything right away drinks and dinner. The waitress ((dont think she told me her name)) short dark hair. I was sat 3 booths down from the host stand. She didn't seem to want to be our waitress. No personality at all.... She brought me the wrong drink to start. And then i order kids chicken fingers with FRIES. I know it comes with tots, but we ordered fries. My kid hates tots. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad. I paid right away because we had a date next door at 7. It took AN ENTIRE HOUR to get our food so we boxed it up to leave. My kid got tots not fries and the waitress didnt fix it. I didnt even have a bite of my salad because my chicken was pink. I searched for the waitress and she was NOWHERE To be found. Another nicer woman, got us our togo boxes. The lighting was so bad i thought maybe it wasnt as pink as i thought and ill eat it at home. Nope. Its pink. I cant eat the salad. Just called to speak with a manager and the woman who answered doesnt seem to like her job either and is not the best at customer service. She left me feeling like crap as if i didnt matter, but i have to call thanos the mgr at 11:30 in the morning to ask for a refund. just wanted a nice quick dinner with my kid. I know Its a friday night on school vaca. Like i said been in the biz for two decades, but the restaurant was NOT busy, or i would have completely understood way more. Bummed. Hungry. Another great summer on the cape and another great time at the taverna. They switched up the bar seating a bit but it's still rustic and chill. We ordered the sampler app, Santa Fe wrap, shrimp and calamari platter and swordfish w capers. We wanted to get the soup too and were happily surprised to know they do complimentary soup at the bar. We tried all three- chicken rice w veg, chicken corn chowder and the beef veg. All were spectacular and tasty! Fav was the chicken corn for sure. So so experience while trotting through town. Stopped in and was greeted for lunch by the only waitress working during the rush. Was seated and decided to order right away to try and get out quick as I needed to get on with work. I opted to try the Greek Chicken Atop Rice. It was marginal and overly salty. My companion also stated that his food was over seasoned and salty. Additionally service was expectedly slow due to the one waitress. I tipped very well and went on with my day. We will now try every other restaurant in town before we go here again. Whoever is in charge....be better. So the manager responded to my original review below. Place was NOT packed. Empty tables everywhere. If they were packed we could have understood the wait. Also said food was 90% eaten. Incorrect. My wife ate half her burger. I had a little more than half my salad and my daughter didn't finish her wrap due to the raw bacon. I want to start this review by saying that I rarely post negative reviews. But I'm posting one today. I wish there was an option of 0 stars. Last night I went for dinner at Sandwich Taverna in Sandwich,MA. with three other family members. We sat outside around 6:30. There were only two or three other tables occupied at that point. Our waitress was very bubbly but preoccupied with larger parties. We ordered our food after waiting about 10 minutes which was fine. 50 minutes later we still had no food. Almost the entire patio was full and everyone who sat down after us was eating. We asked her several times where the food was and she said it was coming right out "soon. " These other tables ordered hot food and we ordered sandwiches and salads. I think the problem was we were not drinking alcohol. This waitress was very attentive and extremely chatty with the alcohol tables which I believe was everyone except us. I finally went in and found a woman at the welcome station and I asked her if she was the manager. Her response was "sort of. " I expressed my concern that we had been waiting over 50 minutes to get primarily cold food and that everyone else on the patio who arrived after us had already been served. The food came out about another 15 minutes later. Two of my party had ordered wraps with fries. The other person ordered a Greek salad with seared shrimp on top. My was a cold salad with no hot sides. When the food finally came out the french fries were ice cold as was the shrimp on the salad. I went back to the "sort of" manager and informed her that the food had obviously been sitting in the window because the hot ingredients were nowhere near hot. She said she would do "something." I expected at least a 50% Discount if not a free meal for everyone. The service was atrocious, the waitress was preoccupied with tables that could potentially give her a bigger tip, and she gave us a "whatever" apology when she presented us with the bill that was going to give us "something." The sort of manager gave us a 10% discount on our bill. If we hadn't been so angry at that point I think we would've all burst out laughing. It was ludicrous. We have a large group of friends on the Cape who we go out to dinner with often and who love to have a drink or two or three or four. It just so happened that last night it was just the four of us. I can guarantee you that that is one large and big spending and tipping group that will never go to the Sandwich Taverna even knowing that the service will be tiptop because we're drinking and ordering hot meals and more. I would say go to this place at your own peril. The food that we did get was nothing to write home about. The salads were primarily romaine and cheese. There's a restaurant down the street called Tomatoes that is very busy and the food is so good that you actually have to make reservations. Even in this Covid situation. If you're smart and you want good food and good service I suggest you go there. read more

Cool venue with many people having fun line dancing. I did find fault with the food however. The fried scallops were very small , overly breaded and overcooked. The butternut squash was seasoned with a heavy seasoning that I could not identify but one that should definitely not have been added to butternut squash (maybe clove??) and the french fries were soggy. My friend's steak tips were chewy. We did enjoy watching the dancing but we ate very little of our meals unfortunately (maybe 1/3rd). read more

One of the most hopping restaurants/bars in sandwich, but that isn't saying much. It's always a good mix of young and old, and there is usually a live band playing which are both pluses. Food is always decent, but never anything spectacular. Burgers, pizza, appetizers, salads are always satisfying but I personally wouldn't choose the fancier options other than on Tuesdays when the entire menu is half price. Their buffalo chicken mac and cheese is probably my favorite entree on the menu and worth a try. Drinks are pricey, but they always seem to have some sort of deal going on which can make it more reasonable. Overall, just another small town local joint with average eats and lots of liquor. The food is okay here but very overpriced, it cost me $17 for a cheeseburger & fries! They make you think when you get a Sandwich a burger that the fries or other side just comes with it but it doesn't they charge you a lot extra for it very deceiving.
