We just moved to Howell. I would give this restaurant NO stars if I could!!! It was terrible!! We ordered pizza, wings and mozzarella sticks. The pizza was so greasy that the greasy. It took me two paper towel dabs to try n get some of the grease of the pizza! My kids love pizza and they wouldn't even finish one slice!!! The mozzarella sticks were so cold I don't even think they were cooked! The wings were tasteless and the blue cheese dressing was old it tasted funny!!! Every time I go in there, the staff is always friendly. Brooklyn Square makes a great calamari! It is always fresh and tender. It goes great with the pizza. The pizza is good, but it's not the best I've had. I like the sesame seeds on the round pie. The sauce is good but it could use more flavor. As other have mentioned, I was denied doing half toppings on the square pies. read more

So my wife turned me on to this place because she read a food review where this place was voted "best pizza in NJ" by a panel of food journalists. The signature pie is an upside down Sicilian pie where the mozzarella is on top of the crust, the sauce on top of the mozzarella, and the Parmesan is on top of the sauce. The pizza was extremely good, it was a large square pie that was cooked to perfection, the crust was cooked all the way through but overall it was soft and chewy. The sauce was a perfect compliment, it had a good flavor and had the right amount on the pie. The ambiance was good but it boils down to being a pizza place. It was clean, well arranged and decorated appropriately. The service was good but the waitress could have been a little friendlier. All in all the service was fine, the food came quick and we never had to ask to have our glasses to be refilled. read more

After trying and trying to give this place a second, third and fourth chance to get better, I have now thrown in the towel. I will only speak of the place in Jackson, since I have never eaten at the other restaurants. First, the fried chicken tenders were so over fried as was the rice ball . A rice ball should almost fall apart when you take a bite. This had such a thick dark crust I have to cut it with a knife and fork which may also mean it may have been reheated in the hot oil. Also, the rice should be white, not mixed together with a sauce. Any quality rice balls are never, ever mixed with sauce. Fried calamari was soggy as usual and this time I noticed it was not covered in the tray so I am assuming he thought this would help with the sogginess. It didn't. Chicken Parm, again, the chicken over, over fried. Pizza was drenched in tomato sauce so much that it wilted the pie and basil was overkill. Covered in basil. The entire meal was a bust. The last time (maybe 4 yrs ago) I gave a review on FB, the owner immediately sent me a nasty note and banned me from commenting again. The owner Peter seems to not deal with any kind of criticism even constructive criticism. Maybe he should stick to 1 great place to eat instead of 3-4 mediocre places and I'm being kind when I say mediocre . Such promise in the beginning. What the heck happened? My boyfriends parents decided to take us out to lunch to one of their favorite spots. We were greeted very warmly when we arrived. Wish I knew his name. We ordered calamari to start. When it came out a salad was brought out also. Calamari - cooked perfectly. Salad. Beautiful presentation and the dressing was so delishhhh yes I love balsamic but I feel like this one had a cheesy twist to it maybe. But sooo good. Mom ordered penne vodka. HUGE portion and creamy and delish. Dad ordered a wrap that he didn't touch because he was eating his wife's pasta. Boyfriend. Grilled Chicken dish topped with mozzarella and broccoli. Best grilled chicken and broccoli I have ever tasted. Huge portions!! I ordered shrimp wrap with broccoli rabe and mozzarella. Mistake number one ordering a shrimp wrap in an Italian restaurant. I think I had two baby shrimp on each side of wrap. :(. My wrap was basically broccoli rabe. But I have to say the broccoli rabe was outstanding!!! The shrimp was also tasteless. There was no seasonings on shrimp Very very bland. But I still enjoyed the wrap. More shrimp please !!!!! I would definitely go back and try the pizza especially the artichoke one. Always super excited to get pizza from here, but was not happy with the order tonight. We ordered two Peter specials and they were FILLED with oil and so disgustingly soggy. I understand we are in difficult times and they got more busy ever since Dave's review, but they seem very rushed and thrown together. Maybe when seating opens again we'll go back and order at the restaurant, but not ordering from here anymore. 3 stars because this place is very good and has amazing potential, but lately it hasn't met its mark. read more

If I could give this a zero star rating I would. Heard so many great things about this place. I stopped in on my way home and ordered a pizza to go. I only waited about 10 minutes for my pizza, but when I got home half the pizza was burnt on the crust and bottom. I was a bit surprised to see this burnt since I didn't wait long for a pizza, but I am assuming that they past this one off to me to get it out the door quickly and so maybe one of their regulars didn't get a burnt pizza. I tried to salvage what I could but it too was burnt and bitter tasting and left a horrible taste in my mouth all night. As a prospective new customer I was highly disappointed with this. Based on other reviews, it doesn't appear that this is normal but based on my experience I just wanted to let people know that it's not always the best experience and to be careful with this place. This is some of the best pizza you're going to find. If you're a fan of Sicilian Pizza you can't do any better than here. They do use the sesame seed crust with their pies but I would assume you could ask them not to if you don't like that. Pizza is 8.5 out of ten. Sicilian is a 9.1. We just left this establishment after the owner told us he wouldn't serve us. After ordering a Peters Special with pepperoni, we were told "he won't put toppings on a square pizza." I asked why, and was told he just won't. I remarked that this was the dumbest thing I've ever heard and to pass that along. Peter came to our table and asked why someone was calling him a f****ing idiot. He was extremely unprofessional and never offered a reason for his irrational refusal to put toppings on a square pizza beyond, "that's not the recipe." Just had dinner at Brooklyn Square Pizza in Jackson. We had a House salad with a delicious balsamic dressing. We had zucchini sticks that were perfect and the Honeymoon pizza that was to die for. Our waitress Donna was the best friendly and made us feel right at home. We will definitely be back to Brooklyn Square Pizza. I give them 5 stars. Very disappointed.... We were so looking forward to trying the square upside pizza from all of the reviews! Unfortunately it did not live up to them. This place is more than what you can imagine. The store front fools you. It opens up into a beautifully decorated back room with lots of tables and wonderful service. The food is delicious and the portions are divine. You may just go home with a doggy bag, but not for Fido. Customer service is great. We will definitely be back. read more

OMG!!!! The Upside Down Pie is just as good if not BETTER than L&B's!!!! My family absolutely loves this. This rating is coming from a north Jersey girl whose husbands family is from Brooklyn. We know Italian and we know REAL pizza!!! Also I have to say the calamari is pretty damn good! Love that it's a byob and they accommodate big parties. The food is good but honestly the upside down pie kicks ass!!!! We've recommended it over and over and we have also brought friends there and never a bad review! Went in just the other day to try this so called Brooklyn Pizza. The place looks and feels like a regular pizza place. You walk in couple of different pizza under the glass counter ect. I thad a slice of the square pizza and one of the round pie. I know Brooklyn pizza and one of the best in Brooklyn for only square is L&B This square slice took me back to BK it is the best square you will find in this area for sure. Very very good. The round slice it had a sesame seed crust which was good but different. I will be back and I'm going for the square. Great job. If the owner of Brooklyn square reads this try and get GF crust this way I can order for the family my wife has celiac allergy. read more

I am shocked to see some negative reviews. My experience dining here was PERFECT. I came here with my parents and my sister, party of 4 for Sunday Lunch. We got there around 1 pm, only 2 other tables were occupied. It looks like a typical NJ pizzeria in the front and then in the back is a dining area. First off Peter is so awesome and nice. He came to our table to introduce himself, chatted a bit. He noticed at our table there was some light conflict (just a family of 4 debating over what to order). He wanted to help out and we explained our silly conflict and he gave us suggestions, not that we took them but still it was nice that he wanted to help. I told him I usually like Margarita Pizzas and he told me the closest thing to it was "Peter's Special". Well that was what were going to order anyway because my parents and sister go there all the time although mostly order to go, and it's one of their favorite pizza's. It's just this one time my mom wanted a regular cheese pizza but we all changed her mind. My father made a special request that "Peter" actually make the pizza since it's named after him (Peter is the owner). I LOVED Peter's special. OMG I am drooling right now, almost crying because it's not possible to eat this on a regular basis - I live in Atlanta and only get to visit NJ maybe 4 times a year. If you are from NJ or NY, you must appreciate how good Pizza or Italian food is in your area. The bread, cheese, the sauce is so much better in NJ/NY for some reason. I moved from NJ to Atlanta 2 years ago and it pains me not to find the good ole pizzeria joints in Atlanta. Don't get me wrong Atlanta has amazing restaurants but after 2 years I still can't find a pizza joint that reminds me of my NJ home. Anyway back to Peter's pizza. The sauce was to die for, when Peter came to check on us I told him how amazing the sauce was, I could taste the freshness. He told us he makes the sauce from scratch daily. But the every single thing about this pizza was devine. We also had calamari as an appetizer. WOW it was like butter! The calamari was big cuts and so tender. I ordered Calamari from a different restaurant just a day before which was priced much more than, and Peter's calamari was SOOOO much better. Our waitress was also spectacular. I wish I remembered her name, but she was great too. Great service and such an engaging personality. The eggplant rollatini is also very good here. A week before my sister order a try off it for a birthday party. It was the first tray to be finished. I can't wait to go back to NJ just to come back to Brooklyn's Square pizza!! read more

This is an above average pizza. Standard commercial gas pizza ovens with solid ingredients makes above average pizza. I have no idea how this place beat out Santillos this year - have the voters even tasted the difference of the huge wood fires brick oven 800+ degree ovens. The Brooklyn square is good but a bit too much like bread - regular cheese pizza is slightly on the oily side. Solid jersey pizza but not even close to top 5 best in the state. santillos, razza, talula's have this place beat by a wide margin. read more

They did never disappoint based off the quality of pizza until last order. It did take close to 2.5 hours to get a pizza delivered, but we are in the middle of difficult times and I would be ignorant to not understand that. This is the best pizza in Jackson by far and the square might be the best pizza I ever had. I am not suppose to eat dairy and only once in a while when I have a craving I get a jackson square. The round pie doesn't compare and would recommend the square pizza to anyone. The Round pie is still good but the square is obviously the pizza they are known for and for good reason. With all that said about my bad experience, still Peter the owner, helped rectify the error. He did so by sending over a free pizza and even going through Facebook Messenger to do so to make an easy experience. It's easy to say it's 4 stars or less based off delivery experience, but taking the extra step to rectify the situation makes me know it was a mistake and they felt bad for the mix up. read more

This pizza place / restaurant just opened not too long ago. I went here with my family and we were excited to try it. I had a wrap (grilled shrimp with avocado, feta cheese and greens) which was good. The only thing was that that was the only thing on this big plate, no fries or salad, not even "show lettuce". My husband had a stromboli which he said was just ok. My father in law liked his lasagna and my mother in law was kind of upset how small her panini was (it was on a hard roll). Also she said the chicken was very dry and hard on the ends. So needless to say we were disappointed when we left. We didn't try the pizza which did look good. Our family has been eating at BSP on and off the past year and recently made the switch to them for our Friday night family pizza night. In the restaurant we've been fortunate to have great service with very nice waitresses but the food is not better than average and I find the food very salty. The meatballs are great but inconsistent sometimes great big chunks of garlic and sometimes none. The meatball sandwich does not get the same meatballs from their dinner entre; instead you get the frozen cardboard tasting meatballs. Now for their pizza review. The first time we had their pizza about a year ago we thought it was very good, we love sesame seed crust. After a couple pleasant experiences their quality started to decline. Two weeks ago their plain pizza pie was extremely salty...our guests were not impressed...we chalked it up to a bad day. Then last week the pizza was "off". The second the pizza arrived my wife and I noticed an odd smell. The cheese was different. It was so bad I spit out the only bite I took. I called and spoke to Orlando, the manager. He said "we made 200 pies tonight and no one has complained." I offered to bring the pizza back so he can smell what I'm talking about but he said to call him next week and he'd take care of us. Tonight I called to place my order and was transferred to Pete the owner. Again, he said its impossible the cheese was bad as the turn over is so high there is no time for the cheese to go bad. I was adamant about my terrible experience but he again gave me the same song and dance his manager gave me. I told him to forget what I said and let me place my order...The owner did not for one second give a regular customer the benefit of the doubt. Oh by the way it is true what many people have said he refuses to put a topping on that Brooklyn Square Pie. Anyway, he offered me a couple 2 liter bottles as compensation. Needless to say after I placed my delivery order, I called back to cancel my order. Regretfully, I will no longer eat at this restaurant. The food is inconsistent and I was not impressed with the owners attempt to rectify the situation. I'm sure I won't be missed...but maybe the several customers I referred will be.
