Ambiance: 5/5 I appreciated how the booths practically gave you your own insulation, since a wall separates the entrance from the main dining area. It uses a lot despite having a narrow space. The dim lighting provides just enough light, while also not having an overwhelming intrusion. Likewise, the pop music playing over the radio did not get too loud. Service: 5/5 We were well-accommodated and the staff patiently answered the questions I had. Wait Time: 5/5 I did not wait long for my course to arrive. Food: 4/5 I ordered a small bowl of Antipasto, consisting of salami, capicola, sharp provolone, fresh mozzarella, lettuce, tomatoes, olives, giardiniera, and onions, with a side of oil-and-vinegar. The well-prepared ingredients make the bowl tolerable to eat. Nothing poured out of the bowl and every vegetable looked and tasted fresh and rinsed. Although I do think that green olives have too much of a zesty taste, I did manage to eat many of the ingredients with little difficulty. Worth The Money?: 4/5 I did think that the brochure and the menu items did mislead me. I wanted to try the hot Antipasto, but realized that due to the green moon crescent next to it on the menu, it may be served at night. It would help Red Moon Pizza if they specified it on their menus. I was not upset that I did not receive hot Antipasto, since I needed to eat more Mediterranean cuisine for mental/physical health reasons anyway. I am glad that they offer smaller versions of their menu items, since it would help anyone save money, especially if they want to try new foods. They also buy their ingredients from smaller farms and farmer markets, while also buying meat from Boar's Head. Nonetheless, I will say that Red Moon Pizza maintains its relevance with the rest of the community after 50 years. The type of customers that give Red Moon Pizza hope are the customers who came as children, then grew up and had children who come there. I can see how people would grow up alongside Red Moon Pizza, since the ambiance matches the food perfectly. I will say that the price was ultimately worth it. This restaurant really surprised me. I wasn't expecting such a good experience but then I've been surprised before. Red Moon has been around since 1968 and that says something. It's basically a pizza place or so I thought. Friends have eaten here an said the entrées are really good. So on my friend's advice we split an antipasto and I got the stuffed eggplant. Now when ordering an entrée you have the choice of small plate or a larger version. I decided on the smaller one. I'm glad I did. I was only able to eat half of it. I thought they'd made a mistake giving me the large size. They didn't. The antipasto was very good and the eggplant was excellent! Thinly sliced eggplant with ricotta and mozzarella. Fantastic! This is a small family owned shop in the heart of Howell, NJ. They have been in Howell for over 50 years which is crazy. I wanted to give this a higher rating, but I couldn't. I would say 3.5 stars but because yelp doesn't do half stars I am giving it a 3. We went at 1130 and I grabbed two slices of cheese pizza. The flavor WAS good, but there was absolutely no crunch to it. A little too greasy and was a little soggy. I love a nice traditional jersey / NYC pizza in the style Red Moon offers but they need to figure out how to make the crust and bottom dough of the pizza a bit more firm. Gross. Not sure why the folks in this neck of the woods can't make GOOD Italian food. Pizza is always underdone, crust is still doughy, and they GLOB the cheese on to where it's not even melted. Made the mistake of trying an entry from them, stuffed eggplant (just call it eggplant rollitini) and it was uncooked mounds of cheese, not melted enough over about 4 thin slices of mushy overcooked eggplant and what looked like cold cut ham shoved in. This place was established in 1968 and I was coming here than. Every Friday night a cheese pizza pie that was shared between me my two older sisters and my Mom(Dad was usually working late) There was a sign in the front $,25 cents a slice. Present day still an excellent pizza and subs. The rest of the menu is very extensive however I still stick with what I am used to maybe next visit I will venture out. Every visit back to NJ to see my Mom and sister who still live in the area I always end up back here. The pizza is delicious it must be the quality ingredients that make the pizza great it has a taste I can't get in Florida. As for the subs lots of onion and oil and vinegar is just the way I love it. Ordered a small sub which was too big to eat I could only finish half. As for the prices it is extremely affordable we had 2 slices cheese and pepperoni, a small sub and two sodas for $14 bucks. That is crazy inexpensive and me and Mom left stuffed. The food tastes exactly like I remembered delicious. My parents who have loved red moon for 25 plus years were both down with colds and decided to order a pie to be delivered... it looked old and burnt was cold the sauce was a black red....the cheese was translucent from laying out for so long. Red Moon you were an icon growing up in Howell now you are just as bad as all the other pop up pizzerias in the area that suck....i honestly can't believe how poor the quality was... the original owners cared I'm guessing the kids 3 generations later really don't care.... Red Moon was always our favorite go to pizza restaurant. Our favorite is the Sicilian pie. However on 11/21/23 I ordered a Sicilian pie, half pepperoni, half sausage. The crust was definitely prebaked which is fine however, it was so overcooked dry, and super crunchy was very hard to eat. The cheese was just not the same for whatever reason. This pie was extremely disappointing. Everyone can have a bad day. Will give it another try in a couple weeks but if it's not 100 times better we will wish them a farewell. My husband and I stopped to get a quick dinner at Red Moon and sat i the dining room. The table and the seats were covered with crumbs. The waiter was pleasant and brought as drinks and took our order right away after promptly. When our food came it was swimming in tomato sauce and my Cappellini Prima Vera had a watery sauce with no flavor. I could boot get black Pepper to come out of the any the shakers that appeared to be old and sticky. The tables were full With the previous diners smeared food. I was about 1/4 the way through the bowl when I noticed that the carrots were not peeled cleanly and the base had mold and dirt in them. When I showed the waiter, he took the dish and when he returned, asked me what he should do for me. The answer was to to apologize and I asked if that was some thing chef would allow to go out to customers. He said he hand were tied and the supervisor would not come to the table to discuss what to do. They didn't come over and wanted us to come to them. This was absolutely unprofessional and out right rude. The waiter kept apologizing and saying he wasn't allowed to do any thins. It was swimming in way to much pasta water and the vegetables were dirty and moldy. Supervisor was not attempting to make the mistake right with us do we paid and walked out. This place was always very good and is it is total crappy food and crappy care for customers getting poor food. Never eating there again. The people who had complaints for this place were Spot on and this restaurants just proved that they do it care. They do a good business with pizza sales and perhaps they should just stick to making pies. There food was just awful. cut up and thrown together like you would make for a dog. The pepper shaker were like from the year of the flood and utensils and shakers were filthy. So I don't usually write reviews. However this had to be one of if not the worst food experience I ever had. Firstly , I have grown up in Howell and used to order food under the old owners. It was usually very good , not great but good. Within the last year or so with the new ownership. We noticed the quality of food has gone down while the prices have increased. We ordered a large pepperoni pie and we each ordered a dinner. I got penne vodka and my husband ordered eggplant parmesan on a hero . The waitress was very rude. She was on her phone in the middle of the dining room. This wouldn't be a issue for me however she forgot our salads, then I saw her use her hands to put pieces of lettuce back on the plate that fell off it. Still not an issue except when we got our entrees there was a small bug. I am not sure what kind of bug, when we mentioned it to the waitress, she told us she was would tell the manager. The manager came over and said he would comp the dinner , except after our bill just was paid I realized the bill had been adjusted a mere 10 percent on the dinners price off. Never again . I couldn't hear the waitress as the music was blaring on this evening. Our waitress also explained how the new owners are not related to the past ones. And it's all part of some lie to help business. (I don't think she was supposed to tell us this part , glad she did, it explains the decline in food and overall experience at this former reputable pizzeria.) read more

I get it east coast peeps love thier pizza and I do too and when I moved here this was one of the places suggested. Had take out, delivery AND dine in so here is my review. Dine in- 8 times since June 2013. Service spot on. Portions huge! raviloi, linguini and clam sauce, pizzas and salads we have trried probably 20 + different dishes no complaints, they do get large crowds after sport events or large party dinners but the service doesn't lack even in the businest of nights. I really love the buffalo chicken pizza I have to say I wasn't all SURE when hubby suggested it but ya know it was amazing. The sauce was not buffalo screaming hot it was tangy but tasty, the chicken was not breaded it was naked and that is a huge plus I don't want breaded chicken on a pizza that's already bread.. kow what I mean? anyway the cheese was perfect portion of gooeyness and the crust was crispy tasty I even ate the end crust something I rarely ever do! and yes, we ate the WHOLLLE thing. Buffalo chicken pizza, is now one of our go to pizzas. The Milano pizza -also another I wasn't so sure but once again I was surprised. Take out-delivery- 10x's (maybe more). On Mon-Wed they have a special X-LG plain pizza for $8.99 thats a 16" pie. Dine in, carry out or delivery WHAT?! WOW and ya know those things are flying out of the store on those nights, so we had to try and the quality was just as good on delivery and take out as it was dining in. Cuz people won't keep going to a place and spending hard earned money on food no matter how great the price, if the food is crappy. I grew up in Howell, and so I grew up on Red Moon. Many birthday parties, post-soccer game lunches, Friday night dinners, etc. were here, and the pizza at Red Moon is what I think of when I think of pizza. I had a high school reunion last weekend, and met up with some former classmates at Red Moon for lunch. It was the first time I'd been for many, many years. It's been updated -- I understand they just had a milestone anniversary themselves (50!), and there was a fire a few years back. The place looks great, but isn't gaudy or overdone like many other Italian restaurants. This is a pizzeria, and they know it, and they do it right. We ordered a plain regular pie, as well as a plain Brooklyn-style pie. I never had the Brooklyn before - it was quite good. The regular pie brought me back instantly to my childhood. We lived it up with some garlic knots, too, which were light and warm and garlicky perfection. Service is friendly and efficient. Wish I could give it a good review because my kids rant and rave about this place but good reviews start with service. We walked in at 8:30 and the place is opened until 10 in Wednesday's. We walked up to the counter and the gentleman behind the counter asked if it was for here or to go. My girls and I told them for here and he said the waitress would help us as soon as she got off the phone (she was helping a customer on the phone). When she got off the phone she turned her back to us and walked away very loudly saying "DINING ROOM CLOSED AT 8". The experience ended there and I never got to taste the food.
