Shrimp and grits dish was not hot and lacked flavor, except for a fridge taste i was getting with each bite. Chicken was undercooked and they tried to tell me it was fine, judge for yourself. + the seasoning was over powering (not in a good way) and extremely salty. Two stars because the server was nice. The place is in renovation so everything was served in to go containers which is a huge waste. Food took exceptionally long to get to us and the majority of it was cold. The chicken and waffles should be renamed the chicken and awfuls. I've never had such a dry waffle in my life it seems over cooked and honestly I could do much better at home. The chicken was over cooked and flavorless. Which is a shame. The wife got French toast which was also cold but she said it tasted good. She ordered fried green tomatoes that had to be sent back because they were burnt and tasted more like pickles then tomatoes. Food was good but restaurant seemed to have some cleanliness issues. The front of the bench of our booth had guacamole or something green on it that I had to wipe away with my napkin or end up with it on my pants. Our ketchup bottle lid did not fit and I almost shot ketchup across the table as I shook it up. The bottle also had spilt ketchup down the bottle I had to wipe clean or get it all over my hands. This was one of our family favorite restaurants in Buda. The family and I would come here a lot in the past for dining in & pick up orders. The alligator bites were hands done thee best I have ever had, very tender and a nice heat with the spice. You have to try the Dr. Pepper glazed beef short rib...it is a whole out-of-body experience and one of the best things I have ever tasted in my life!!!! We've been here a few times with friends and family. Nice location. The entire restaurant feels "tight." Lose a table or two and it might flow better. Bar is great - good selection of beer on tap and quality cocktails from the very busy pair of bartenders. Service is hit or miss - sometimes it's been great and other times mediocre (never bad). I really want to like the food, which is where Brooklyn's just falls short. I haven't found a favorite dish despite coming for lunch, brunch, and dinner. This was a great find and a great place for brunch with friends. I went with a friend and she knew of the place from a co-worker. This restaurant is located in a charming part of Buda. It has plenty of parking and if you had to park far off, the scenery is good to look at. There are little shops up and down the streets. The entrance into the restaurant is quaint. The hostess was on the phone when we walked in (she didn't acknowledge us, which a small smile or raising a finger goes a long way); however, a waitress from the back noticed us and briskly walked to us with a big smile and greeted us. There are tables and booths; we sat at a booth. It was clean and comfortable. The waiter was friendly and had many suggestions. I ordered the chicken and waffles. It was okay. The waffles were really fluffy. The chicken is regular chicken parts (bone in). In all, it was a good experience. It is a good place for brunch and the price was amazing. read more

Nothing like having a little fun in downtown Buda when you're here to drink/catch up with your friends who live just a quick drive further down south for this South Austinite. We had a fantastic time here on a Thursday night which was also karaoke night. Boy oh boy did my boy(friend) sing, hoot, and holler his way through "Family Tradition" and another country hits with a very short amount of time in between his singing. Lots of people in the bar area having fun and singing along. Meanwhile my friend and I had Texas vodka grapefruit shots & delicious craft beer on draft as we cheered him on. Very casual and laid back here with lots of people watching and smiling at the faces who are there to have fun. I haven't had food here yet but perhaps Brunch is my future sometime when I get a chance to make my way back to downtown Buda. Should be soon enough considering how much fun I had here. read more

Drove halfway to meet a friend who was staying in Wimberly - so we met here. Everything was subpar. You have to pay extra for everything - sides aren't included as they would be in a regular meal. The fried green tomatoes had burned coating and and the tomato was almost hard, like it was not ripe. There was no flavoring. We also didn't like the dip that came with it. My friend got the fried shrimp and said it was good. They got a side of fries and they were small and very thin cut - had to eat them with a fork. I got the salmon and a Caesar salad. The salad was not a Caesar - I think they made a mistake. Because the dressing was a vinegar dressing, no cheese, no hint of Caesar dressing. - $24 I had a holiday themed cocktail- it was probably the best thing we had out if everything. $13 Chocolate Ganache Pumpkin Pie - no bueno - there's not really any balance between the two flavors so it's kind of like an overwhelming thick mini pie - $7 Very over-priced. Brooklyn's Down South is very hit or miss. When it hits, it's fantastic. When it misses, you leave disappointed. The staff seems super sensitive to constructive criticism, so I didn't even say anything on my last visit when the brunch waffles were overcooked and too dry to enjoy, and the fried chicken was overcooked to the point that it had a burned flavor. The Cajun Benedict was good, but when there's only a few of us dining and one's meal is subpar, it colors the whole meal experience. We've had phenomenal burgers, then average ones. The shrimp & grits is usually consistently tasty, but mind your spice level. When they say it's spicy, listen to them. The gumbo is yummy, but the fried green tomatoes are inconsistent as well. We've had crisp, tart, hot tomatoes, and then soggy, lukewarm ones. The Peach St. salad is awesome, and the boudin balls as well. Try the Main St. Old Fashioned, and the mimosas at brunch (comes with several juice options). I hope the restaurant can pull it together and return to the fabulous level it once was, and could be again. On the fence here. The food I've had most times I've been (about 4-5) has mostly been good, but service was seriously lacking. Also had an incident where I'd ordered an item that had eggs, which I asked for over medium, that were beyond over easy, basically raw. By the time I could get the waitresses attention, most of my party had finished eating. Very hard to get drink refills and overall seems maybe they're just understaffed. Just revisited Brooklyn's over the weekend & am so happy to report that they're back up & running at their previous excellent level, now that the remodeling is complete. Our party of four came in for dinner at 6p & after a short 15 min wait, were seated. Service was wonderful & attentive, despite the place being packed. We had rounds of drinks, appetizers, and entrees and everything was perfect. Mirna the manager came over afterward to check on us and make sure we'd enjoyed our time. This place was disappointing considering the 4 store average here on Yelp. We thought we couldn't go wrong because there were over 500 reviews so it clearly was a crowd pleaser. Maybe it's what we ordered but we were so disappointed. We had salads with the added '6 oz' chicken breast, blackened for me and grilled for my husband. First, I cook 6 oz of chicken breast all the time and the piece of meat they gave each of us was about 3 oz. They were both dry, tough, and so flat (it was like they cooked them under a bacon press). Our friends had something else and they found it adequate. So maybe if you go and get something else, it would be fine. The ambiance was nice and the servers were friendly. read more

Use to come here for brunch and it had been awhile, went today and service, prices and quality of food has changed. The prices have definitely increased, which I do not have a problem paying for if the food is good....bacon came with our platter and it was not even full strips of bacon. Service was subpar, we did not get refills on our drinks, had to ask for our check and after our check was brought to us, I had to call our waitress to take our payment (I could see our waitress and she was talking with the hostesses). Kinda torn about this review. The food was very good. We enjoyed our dishes very much (fried catfish, shrimp and grits, blackened salmon with red beans and rice), however..... 1) Ordered appetizers that never came. 2) Sever didn't check in on us for 25 mins between the order and realizing the apps never came. 3) When she did come by, I ordered a drink, a water for someone at the table who didn't get one and a side of sauce. The drink came 20 mins later. The water and sauce never did. Look, I hate douches who get worked up about things at casual restaurants. And to be fair, our server was overly apologetic, the manager came by and offered to pay for the apps if we still wanted them (we already had our meal and didn't have room for apps on the table) and offered a complementary dessert instead. At the end of the meal we didn't want dessert and just asked for our check. Yes, they offered multiple options to make it up to us, however I'd suggest that a minor discount off the bill would have been appropriate given we didn't want to take advantage of free apps or desert. This did not happen. Not looking for a free meal and we still tipped around 22%, but a 10% discount would have cost them less than the free apps or free dessert and left us with a good feeling. Just a bizarre miss.... I want to stress that the food was very good, everyone was very nice and they did make an effort to make things right. But the overall service fail is just too much to ignore. Might have just been a bad night or a one-off fluke and it was just our turn to have the mishaps. Nice quaint restaurant w good service. We had several dishes like the Skinny Salad amd the make your own omelet which were good. However, i hated the chicken and waffles. Chicken was fine but a little over fried. The waffles were terrible. How hard is it to make good waffles! Ibhave had much better at the Hampton Inn, Embassy Suites etc. The texture was like sawdust and when your wanting a great breakfast/brunch u surely dont want someone messing w the waffle recipe! First time here and we were greeted by a friendly hostess. We were advise of at least a 20 minute wait which was fine with us. Shortly after we sat we were advised that our table was ready. We were immediately introduced to our waiter Logan. After looking over the menu I ordered the crab cakes and the classic burger. I will say that Logan was very knowledgeable and recommended some other choices. Logan also came back to make sure we were good after getting Our entree. The ambiance was very nice and Clean. The service here was so great. The host (owner, manager?) was beyond friendly and personable, sat us quickly, personally cleaned off our table and gave us some great food recommendations. Our waiter was very quiet and a bit hard to hear, but I knew he was trying his best and our food was prompt and correct. Unfortunately, I think the food here is pretty average. I live in South Austin so Buda isn't far from me, but I'm spoiled with the Austin restaurant scene. Everything in the city is usually a slam dunk and middle-ground places don't survive. Brooklyn's would be middle ground in Austin. I had the burger, and the best part about it was a super buttery bun. Beyond that, not a lot of flavor or texture, and this place feeds into one of my restaurant pet peeves: I had to order (and pay for) fries as a side, as the burger didn't come with any sides at dinner. My husband opted for seafood and felt the hushpuppies pretty dry, and the seafood (fried fish, I think) just ok. We got the bread pudding for dessert which was piping hot and in a HUGE portion. It didn't come with any of the promised fresh fruit, but hey - if you're getting bread pudding, fruit just gets in the way, right? We couldn't finish it and that's saying something. A real gem of a restaurant. Excellent selection of Cajun and American style meals. Their a la carte selection is a great way to try more items. The mac and cheese was so flavorful we wished we had gotten more. Their cocktails were amazing, with fascinating combinations. Service was amazing, especially our primary server, Logan.
