This golf course has the audacity to put people into 5 somes and stack them 10 minutes apart. DO NOT BOOK HERE! Not worth the $60 green fees when you're going to be spending 30+ minutes per hole! They also have parking here for rose bowl events so one of the holes is tore up. Wish I could have cancelled once I found out they put my threesome with a twosome for 5 of us in one group! And the lady at the course who handles the bookings is a completely abrasive and rude person with zero customer service. Spend the few extra dollars and book at a better course with better service. read more

Horrible first experience! Driving range was closed, shortage of golf carts, and we couldn't play a consistent 18 holes on one course. They had hand made signs that we had to follow to bounce all over the place instead of going in order. And finally the course was in terrible shape. The freeways were beat up to the max and the greens were extremely rough and punched. We were told that this course acts as a second parking lot to the Rose Bowl for larger venues. So that means cars parking on the fairways... no thanks! read more

Expect a very slow pace of play. Since they try and put groups into 5-somes, and still only space groups 7 min. apart when they are actually paying attention. Not well organized at the start window. The grounds crew was on the course at noon and kept disturbing our shots by either cutting grass right in the fairway causing us to wait or around the green. This place is more recognizable to people as the place where you park your car while you stroll towards the Rose Bowl Stadium. It's great to park on. It's great to bbq or drink on. But a great golf course, this place is not. This place is only good for people who are too lazy to drive but are more than able to wait for backed up holes. The tee boxes aren't too pristine. The fairways aren't too well-kept. But I have to admit that this place makes you feel good about yourself. I've been playing round this golf course for about a year and a half now. Lately it's been getting more and more booked to the point than it would take you around 2 hours just to play 3-4 holes. Even the driving range drives me nuts since there are people so inconsiderate who'd leave they're spots for about 10 min. And then expect to still get on there. Id like to be the better person to let the others hit while I eat a burger or something. It should atlas get two stars but the staff members are just amazing. One new starter, great smile, and offers help and tries to explain the best she can even though she's new, really fast too which helps when there's a big line. Honestly most the starters are pretty fast but I usually walk in so I see the people working around 11 mostly. The managers are awesome and are understanding. And the restaurant staff are always so friendly! I forgot her name but one in particular is really kind. Overall real decent course. Super prices no wonder the course is booked! Classic So Cal golf w/ mature trees. Course 1 is longer. A few years back, they Laser-leveled the T-boxes. Last year, they added and upgraded the bunkers. There is a HUGE arroyo (river bed) that cuts through the entire facility. Many balls are offered to the golf gods. The city hosts a big tournament, and the competition is fierce. The club from Industry Hills and the Brookside Men's Club dook-it out every year! Legends say that "Gone With The Wind" was filmed on the fairways. read more

#2 Nay Course Played here on an aeration discount. Course is good, very peaceful atmosphere. Greens are aerated, yet still not too bad. Course has some character, with bunkers about 230 yards out on most drives. Very flat course, with water coming into play on 1 hole, and a water channel on a few others. Green fees are going up again in July, although seems already expensive for that you get. read more

This is no matter what anyone says - a 36 hole city facility that is on par with Griffith Park and other muni courses - nothing more. The rates of $35+ weekday and $50+ weekend are far too excessive for what you're getting here. Course number one - Koiner - is the nicer one, but course 2 has some good strategically placed bunkers. After the entire remodel of the course not 6 months ago adding much better bunkers and sodding the fingers - it seems to be a better layout than it was a year or two ago. That being said they park cars here for the UCLA football games on the fairways in the fall and the course really gets absolutely trashed to the point where you wouldn't pay me to play here. Also they have lights on the first 4 holes which can be cumbersomely ugly when you're playing at 2pm on a Tuesday instead of a 5am round Sat morning. read more

my first time playing in a tournament! Of course, I had to sign up for the taco and tequila tournament! It was my friend's brother's birthday. He's an avid golfer. So what other way to spend his birthday! I had tons of fun on this course! Even though it was scorching hot outside, it was still fun! I couldn't tell you the difference between the difficulty or whatnot. Just I was excited that I had a hole in one! And golf carts are super fun to drive! But watch out for the sprinklers! Played here on Saturday morning at 6:45am which is right when the sun came up. But we were already the 6th group off as they let groups off before sunrise with lights set up on the 1st hole. I don't normally play early but have recently been getting really sick of playing 5.5 hour rounds on Saturday afternoons. Unfortunately my buddy and I got paired with another 3-some (older guys but nice) so it still took us close to 5 hours to finish but after the front 9, there was noone ahead or behind us the entire time. I feel bad for everyone behind the group that was after us cuz they mustve been slow! Anyways, the customer service at Brookside seems to have gotten better. I booked through GolfNow and received a voicemail confirming it a few days later. And the lady at the starters office was super nice and friendly. Course is in ok shape. Greens were punched a few weeks ago but most holes on course #1 are healing very nicely. Some are still pretty bumpy. Fairways are decent... there are several areas blocked off where it's just mud or dirt. Tee boxes were a hit or miss. Some nice, lush, and level. Others were hardpan and impossible to stick a tee in with huge areas of missing grass. All in all, Brookside isn't usually my first choice for golf but if you can find a golfnow deal, it's not bad. read more

The place is very elegant and the food is delicious, but unfortunately the customer service specifically from the bartender DEAN ARANO was unacceptable. His attitude during the event I attended for Sierra Acura's Christmas Party on 12/10/2017 was rude and humiliating. He tried to embarrass me by telling people in line that he would take their orders next week because I asked him for a drink and since he wasn't paying attention he got my order wrong. When I asked for the right one he started to make jokes with the people in line about me. He tried to charge me for a drink that was already prepaid by the event just to get out of making the right drink that I ordered. I reported this to Manuel, the waiter's captain. I really hope this encounter will be revised by the Club's management. read more

Many, many hungry Rose Bowl runners come here after 12, 14, 16 mile runs and devour breakfasty foods. Their service is pretty good even if you have a table of 20 sore and salty marathoner runners. I always appreciate the coffee and omlette combo. read more

The course is decent and challenging. Course 1 is longer than 2 and significantly more of a challenge. There are a few reasons I give this course s 2 out of 5: 1. The greens are never very impressive. I've never played Brookside (course 1 or 2) and thought, "These greens are so fast!" In fact, at least 3 times that I played the course, the greens were being aerated, which makes for an unpleasant round. Don't get me wrong, the greens are usually cut clean and they're pretty green... they just don't play very fast. 2. The whole staff seems to operate under the mentality that Brookside is always right (as opposed to the customer always being right). I played this week right after they aerated the fairways. The fairways also hadn't been cut in about 4 or 5 days, so they were long and nasty. I complained, and the guys in the clubhouse as well as the general manager denied there was anything wrong with the course. They said it was in top shape, that they get nothing but rave reviews, and, I quote, "the fairways are so tight it's sick" - words directly from the GM. This is after I just finish playing the course and experiencing uncut fairways with huge holes all over the place. My complaints were treated with disdain and an incredulous attitude that I was way off base even questioning the condition of the course. Add to that the fact that they charge full price no matter what condition the course is in. So I pay $75 on a Sunday for a very sub-par experience. Not good customer service if you ask me. I would love to say that I'm never going back to Brookside again because of this treatment, but the reality is that it's one of the more decent courses in the area, and their twilight prices are pretty good. read more

Very disappointed in my experience with Brookside. Booked through GolfNow and when we got to the course they were behind nearly 4 tee times late in the day with slim chance to get a round in with busy play. Asked if we would be charged to cancel tee times since we were within 24 hours and they said we would just be charged $10 GolfNow fee. Never asked for money upfront from us and went on with our day. Week later and we're charged with the full fee from Brookside. After speaking with GolfNow and then speaking to Brookside the head pro switched his story multiple times about how we were being charged. First it was because we cancelled within 24 hours, then it turned it was because we never told the starter (after explaining we had talked to the starter and he told us it would be a $10 charge per person), and last the story changed to we were charged full price because we booked on GolfNow and they can only give refunds if you book through the pro shop. The head pro is the only person who can reverse the charges FYI. Pretty disappointing customer service and obviously looking to just make a buck. Upon our arrival at the course they had no golf carts and were so far behind they were telling everyone to wait at the putting green and they would call you for your tee time. The starter shack is very poorly organized and obviously not equipped to handle busy situations. Very disappointed in this experience and situation. read more

She consistently offered a can-do attitude, no matter what my request. Her vision and flexibility made our event a treasured memory. All of our guests enjoyed the beautiful setting near the Rose Bowl, the tasty food and flowing ambience. Chelsea worked with her staff to provide the personalized service we requested, including a perfect variety of food stations, an impromptu wine tasting and pitchers of a specialty drink. She made certain we would be pleased with everything we offered our guests. Everyone, from the F&B Director to the gentleman in charge of our event couldn't have been more welcoming and invested in making our party perfect. Just one more thing -- no matter how often I phoned Chelsea; and no matter how insignificant my question or concern, she always made me feel as though mine was the only event she was working on. Great value and experience during weekdays. The weekend must be avoided at all costs ! Weekend rounds now 6-7 hours . Also my Scotty Cameron Putter head over was stolen from the top of my bag, while I was putting on the practice green, ten feet away ! There are definitely times when there is an urban/ghetto clientele that roll through here ! Yesterday was one. Felt like " Raider Nation" , very sketch. Played on 1/25/18. Avoid at all costs. The greens are dead. That would be acceptable back east in freezing temps, but not here. Superintendent should be fired. The greens are pool table fast, and will not hold a pitch shot with spin. My experience here was on May 6th and 13th at about 8 am both times. Both times the superintendent did not have new cups cut on the #2 course .The cups were completely caved in so they were much smaller than the inner diameter of the plastic cup sleeve. It appears that they also mowed over the old cup with the groomer units on . EVERY SINGLE ONE of your customers goes to every single cup on the course, a total of what ? About six Square feet .Yet they had a guy making a career out of putting out some gopher poison by the first tee (another odd site).The more people stomp around the hole trying to make the two footer the worse they get late in the day. I like the relaxed vibe at Brookside on days that it's not too crowded. Otherwise, prepare to be patient and you can still have a great round. Beautiful golf course! Seriously one of the best public courses around. But save your receipts! Checked in for two on a Sunday with my buddy. Let the starter know we were paying separate I paid with card my buddy paid with cash ($50 bill and asked for singles for our friendly wagers) checked my bank statement I was charged for two and when I called in they basically said they couldn't do anything for me because their system says I was charged for two and no cash transactions at that time. Been going for years. I went a few weeks ago and I booked through Golfnow. After golfing I received a $50 charge from Golfnow for a no show reservation. I called and they said the course said only 5/6 showed up to golf. I explained that I had spoken to the lady when we showed up that he had a reaction last minute from his vaccine shot and couldn't show up suddenly. She said no problem, and assured me we wouldn't be charged. Goflnow called the course and they REFUSED to refund the $50 saying policy is policy. The lack of understanding during this pandemic is disgusting. I am furious with this golf course. I can't believe they would be so cold and not care after years of going here and they have always been understanding. Side note about the day: They were aerating the greens on the course we were on and there was NO notification of this prior to golfing. One of the holes even had the "green" set up on the fairway because the green was under construction. Our groups of 12+ will no longer be going there until we have resolution to this. Everyday Brookside has plenty of tee times available on golf now, however when you get to the course they will tell you they don't have enough carts available so you will be late for your tee time. Then when you get out the course it is fill packed to capacity with hackers and you're looking at a 6 1/2 hour round. The other day I got in 13 holes in 5 1/2 hours, then left. I would not recommend Brookside unless you enjoy all of the above. read more

I'm only reviewing this golf course based on my experience on the day of the big UCLA v. USC football game this year. While the grounds are well-kept and everything is seemingly well taken care of even with the thousands of cars grinding up the greens and thousands more pairs of feet trampling all over the place mucking things up. The real disaster zones here are the bathrooms. I have never seen such bio-hazardous conditions especially in such beautiful surroundings (because, c'mon, the golf course as well as the hilly woodsy area around it is truly beautiful). In the past I had wondered at how clean and well-stocked these bathrooms stayed on game day but this year all of my previous conceptions have been shattered. After several hours of binging, boozing and schmoozing, after the majority of game-goers had already migrated into the Rose Bowl stadium, I thought it'd be a good idea to hit up the bathrooms now that the lines to wait to pee had vanished. I'm going to spare everyone the extreme details of what I found inside the bathrooms (both mens and womens sides) but I've never before run so fast from something while desperately trying not to vomit up all the delicious whiskey I'd recently consumed. I think I am forever traumatized. The toilets were all FULL (to the brim!) with things I would rather not mention but if you can imagine it, it was probably in there. I had to hold my breath and try to pee in one of the urinals. The next time I had to pee I didn't dare make another attempt at the bathrooms and instead found a deserted portion of fence and popped a squat. I don't understand how maintenance could have been so remiss to not ensure that the plumbing and sewage systems were not in tip top operating condition in preparation for such a huge influx of people. I think i would've had better luck if I'd stuck with the porta-potties. read more

Incredibly slow and crowded all around. Showed up an hour prior to tee time, and range was completely full. Forced to tee off 30 minutes late, and two-some only got in 14 holes in 5 hours. I think the course has some very good holes that are challenging and its a great setting laid around the rosebowl. The only issues I have with it are the greens fees during peak hours which are expensive for a course like this. It's not nice enough to be charging the money they charge. The fairways are kinda sloppy maybe because they use the course as a parking lot for large events at the Rosebowl. I also think it gets way too overcrowded because tee times are booked too close together. read more

I went to their reception to let them know that one of you customer hit my leg. And they said: oh ?? I was like ohh?? I've been going to this golf course for about 2 years now. I echoed all the bad reviews are true. I just want to add up some of my recent experience at this course. the course maintenance is very inconsistent. Sometimes good and sometimes bad. and the maintenance crew generally disregard the present of golfers on the course. golfers will have to wait for the crew to finish their jobs on the course instead of waving us up and letting us play through first. I have booked a FREE early bird 9 holes on course #1 on the 19th of Aug. as our group is getting ready to tee off on hole #10, a maintenance crew walked right up to our tee box, he did not greet us or let us know the reason of his present on our tee box. we thought maybe that guy might have a bad day, so we just let him do whatever he wanted to do on our tee box. but after we got off from our 9 holes that morning, we saw him all smiling and being really polite to another white elderly gentleman. We figured out maybe that maintenance crew is being a little racist. This golf club is probably the most affordable and has the best cost value among the entire LA golf courses. their players club are so cheap and so many people are taking great advantage of the program. I believe this is really a true blessing from American Golf. I notice all other bad reviews only tell us how bad this course is, but here I would also like to offer some solutions, if you want to play at a course that the maintenance would have the courtesy to let golfers play through without distraction, then DONT go to any American Golf's operate golf courses. It is an American Golf culture of their maintenance crew. when we go to Los Verdes Golf Club, it is the same. So, for people who live close to Pasadena and want to play at golf courses where the maintenance crew will have the courtesy to let golfers play through and stop their noisy machine. PLEASE refer to Angeles National or Pacific Palms Resort's Industry Hills Golf Club. During the weekday, their green fee are only about 25% more than Brookside but the value that you get out will be 1000% more. go on golfnow.com to book a tee time with Angeles National or Pacific Palms. You will also cut down your round from more than 5.5 hours to under 4 hours with those courses. for beginner golfers, Brookside is the best golf course in LA. Don't let those bad reviews scare you off. read more

The mismanagement of this course left us dumbstruck. We teed off at 3:45pm on a Friday. 90 minutes later, at 5:15, we had played three holes. We finished at sunset at about 8:30 having played 14 holes total. The sprinklers came on at 8pm for a reason we can't fathom. We saw the drink cart once, at hole #3, and then never again. The water containers were all empty at 6pm; I called the clubhouse and was told the drink cart had probably left for the day. No water or drinks after 6pm? On a Friday?? Really? It is unlikely that we will return. The groundskeeping is well done - I've played there a number of times in the somewhat distant past - but the course management is incredibly poor. read more

I have not played this course #2 in several years. But I certainly do not remember such a poor condition . Many of the Tee boxes were really beat up . Most of the greens were horrible as they were recently aerated . Many, many areas were terrible with heavy mud. The bunkers had NO sand. It more like concrete and gravel. Almost destroyed a sand wedge! If management really cared about the players this place should have closed for play do to the conditions . I will not be returning anytime soon. read more

If you want a 6 hour round with 15 minute waiting on each hole, this is the place for you. That's on a week day. A zoo is an understatement. Living in La canada, it's very convenient for me to shoot over to play. I've been playing here on and off for about 5 years. One thing that has been consistent is SLOW PLAY. It took me 5.5 hours to play 15 holes yesterday. I swear to god, someone please shoot me if I ever think about playing here again. Pay a little more. Play a nicer and faster course. It's a municipal and gets tons of play (there are 2 courses and #1 and #2 - this review applies to #1). Not enough mats for the range. Two nice putting greens that will prepare you for your round and a short game area to the left of the driving range. Greens, in general, have some bumps as many players don't fix their divots but they roll pretty well considering. Fairly fast greens w/ quite a bit of slope (side hill putts do brake a lot). Fairways (this was during DEC so they were a little damp) sometimes have bare spots but they're really in good condition considering both courses are used for the Rose Bowl as parking lots. There's a gold tee for the best of players, a blue tee (use this only if you consistently hit over 250 yards off the tee - but unfortunately most players play from this tee and that's why play is so slow here). Gold is 7200+, Blue is 6700+. Now for the hole-by-hole review: 1) Very short (driveable for the longest hitters) starting hole w/ a wide fairway. Green slopes heavily back to front and the rear of the green (w/ water behind it) doesn't hold that well. Any shot landing in the front 1/3 of the green will roll back quite a bit (and sometimes even off the green). Drive your tee shot down the right side (there's lots of room out there) to leave yourself a short pitch. 2) Pretty straight away hole that plays shorter than the listed yardage (it's downwind). If you can, drive it over the left hand bunker for a short shot into the hole. 3) First of the long par 4s. #1 handicap (but it's really the 3rd hardest hole overall). Plays downwind but trees on the right side can come into play so favor the left half of the generous fairway. Big green. 4) Slight dogleg right. Don't try to cut the corner. Trees on the right may easily block your approach shot. Tough green guarded by a bunker (the hole always seems to be placed behind it). 5) Another shot par 4 Play it like 1 (drive over the right side bunker) for a shot pitch to the green. 6) Reachable par 5. Tee shot has to avoid the huge pond on the left (if the tees on the left side - you'll have to judge between getting closer to the hole and putting the water into play). If you lay up, 100 yards is pretty narrow unless you go way right and play out of the rough. 7) This hole always gives me fits. Try to take your drive over the left hand bunker but beware there's water all along the left side. Very narrow and long green w/ bunkers on both sides. 8) Tough par 3. Mostly over water. Plays into the prevailing wind. Water and trees down the left side (if the pin's on the left, don't even bother looking at it - go for the center). 9) Very well designed hole. There's water that can come into play if you hit driver or 3-wood (long and left). Problem is there's a huge tree that guards from the middle to the right side of the green. Pin's almost always back right. There's a bunker on the right side if you lay up your tee shot. You want to hit a tee shot just short of the distance of the bunker (only about 200 yards) but left of it (right towards the water). Anything middle and right of the fairway forces you to hit to the front left of this angled (short left to long right) green. 10) Wide driving area. Try to stay left again (but a well placed fairway bunker comes into play) since there's another big (but not as wide as 9) tree guarding the right side of the green. Note, your 2nd shot has to clear the drainage ditch short of the green (and you can't really see it from the tee or fairway). 11) Another reachable par 5 but the landing area of the fairway is really narrow (about 15 yards wide) w/ trees on both sides. If you can find the fairway, it's a very easy hole. 12) Toughest hole on the course. It does play downwind but it's 468 from the blues (455 from the whites). Another wide fairway but the green is long and narrow. 13) Back into the wind for another tough par 3. VERY narrow green w/ deep bunkers on both sides. There's also trees down the left side so if you hit a fade, you'll have to go over them and they're not that short. 14) Phew, finally an easy hole. Medium short par 4. What you see is what you get but the green slopes right to left pretty severely so it's not easy to putt. 15) Yet another reachable par 5. A little wider than 11 but trees line both side and very much come into play. Another long and narrow green w/ bunkers on both sides. 16) Doesn't look much on the card but it's into the wind and if you hit your tee shot left, some trees come into play (but they cut down the 2 biggest that really used to make this hole a lot harder). Most people can aim at the right side of the fairway bunker on the left. Lots of room right but that makes the hole play longer. Yet another narrow green (altho not as narrow as some). 17) Easiest par 3 well guarded by bunkers right and left. 18) Used to be toughest hole but they took out the pond on the right. Another tough narrow green. Par is a good finish. read more
