As with most eateries in EL Paso Brown Bag is a good dirty ole spot. I had a #14 and it was good but missing some key ingredients that I thought were apart of "everything" (salt, pepper, vinegar and oil). First things first... I will NOT be returning here. Pros: the price. Cons: not clean, the pizza sub I ordered was supposed to be pepperoni, pizza sauce and cheese - however the person making the sandwich didn't care enough to avoid getting lettuce, onions, and avocado all over my plate and sandwich. The furniture/tables had food residue everywhere. Broken equipment stuffed on the bottom of shelves near the register shows how careless they are about appearance and service. Kick-ass subs. I get 5 or 7 (italian style)- the hubby gets the roast beef and Turkey. Always fresh bread, meat, cheese and veggies. I have tried a few of the hot subs and they were wonderful but if you get there late-as we always seem too, they turn the burner off and will not turn it back on to make you one. Place needs an update. Not quite clean but not so gross you walk out but they are very friendly. You can also buy the meat and cheese by the pound. Compared to Albertsons it it the same price or a little cheaper and seems fresher to me. read more

The place is very dirty, the staff is rude, and the food is only OK at best. They do have good sized portions. The cashier made us wait while she finished a personal phone call, then she reluctantly took our order. We tried several items; they were all bad to average at best. My jacket fell on the floor and I felt like throwing it away because the floor was so dirty. We had a late lunch so maybe they didn't have time to clean if they had a big lunch rush. Their cold subs are amazing however I had a corn beef Ruben and it was DISGUSTING. I am born and raised from New York. I know what a Ruben is. They use sub bread, which is disgusting and not at all what a Ruben is supposed To have. You're supposed to have a rye bread or some sort of BREAD, not a sub roll. They warm up the meat, which is RUBBERY AS HELL, in a microwave. So disgusting. The dressing was running down my sub like a liquid, and it was terrible. I took two bites and threw it away. Wasted my money and didn't have time to get anything else for lunch before going back to work. I don't care about the cleanliness, I eat in Juarez all the time, you find a clean place in Juarez and it's not going to taste good. The sandwiches here are ON POINT I personally love the rueben, only place west of Dallas to get it right! The potato salad tastes like a mixture between Sunday lunches after church at grandma's and classic New York style, it's really unique and so damn good. Went there for the first time tonight and I enjoyed it. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the smell. It has the right deli smell. It is certainly no antiseptic crappy chain sub shop. Of course, that also comes with negatives. The place had a feel of dirty. I could not find a single table that had been wiped down. And it was not particularly busy. Once I got the sandwich I no longer cared. The meat was decent quality, not great but not that lousy Boars Head junk that seems to be so popular. The bread was nice. They actually topped the sandwich all the way to the ends instead of leaving an inch of veggieless no mans land on each end. My only real complaint is the pickles were way too strong for a sub. They seemed to be hamburger dills. But that is minor. All in all a great experience and I will be back. read more

If you are looking for a sub place that isn't a chain this is your place, actually the only place in EP to get a decent sub that is not a chain. Its nothing fancy, it is a sub shop and that is it. People complain that around lunch times its full of soldiers but have you tried going anywhere around lunch time in EP?? I'll take waiting behind some soldiers to get a good sandwich anyday. read more

Ate here for lunch on Tuesday October 25. On Fred Wilson so easy to get up and back in an hour. I normally go off the normal lunch hour because this place and Pho Tre Bien Express next door have small dining rooms. I was greeted when I came in and asked how I was doing. Ordered my sandwich, drink, and chips for $10 something. Called to the counter and was given a huge hunk of sandwich with another hunk wrapped in deli paper "to take if I didnt finish" Well I didnt finish and had the rest of this amazing sandwich that evening. Went for the first time ever after work like sound 5:15pm and no line at all. I was in and out. The menu is extensive but I went for the #4. I want she if it cane cold or hot but I assumed hot but I should have asked. Anyway I didn't want to go for the chips do I figured I'd go for the potato salad and a sweet tea. The sandwich was really good but I wish I would of asked for it hot. The bread seemed a bit too bready. If that makes amy sense at all. The potato salad was extendí delicious and I'm not one to eat any potato salad. I liked it because it had more mayonnaise than mustard and it had big chunks of potato. It also had a sweet flavor to it. The sweet tea was really good too. Overall I highly recommend this place of your in the mood for a good sandwich but not necessarily in the mood for subway. Spectacular sandwiches. The place looks dirty/feculent, but the food is on-point. You can get literally any sandwich made to order, even order off-menu. I have tried a few of the traditional sandwiches (steak, pastrami, roast beef, club) and various sizes, haven't been disappointed. I'm tempted to try the same sandwiches again but I want to continue to be pleased by the variety! They have a few different sizes, depending on how much meat you want. They have every kind of meat, most types of cheese, and everything seems fresh, including lettuce, tomatoes, etc. Even the bread is soft like it was baked moments before. All in all, the combination of sandwiches seems endless. Their macaroni salad is great, not too tangy but not too sloppy. The potato salad, on the other hand, is grotesque. I suggest avoiding it. The folks that work there are nice, but don't seem enthusiastic. Perhaps that's the demeanor of a deli, though it's not really of any consequence. I don't go there to hang out with employees or watch sunshine beam out of their smiles. I go there because the food is good, and the good food makes-up for the lack of motivation. The dining area is thrashed, not clean, and doesn't seem to have been updated since the Reagan administration. Because of the lack of cleanliness in the front, I checked their health inspections at the El Paso public health website to see of they apply the same standards behind the counter. Four times in the past 4 years they almost received a failing grade (61-69%), of the last 25 inspections since 2012 they average a grade of 75%. I kinda wish they maintained a health grade higher than 75%, but they haven't been closed-down yet! read more

I used to live in El Paso almost 30 years ago and ate at Brown Bag Deli several times a week while working across the street at William Beaumont Army Hospital. When my husband and I showed up last week for the first time since then, I was truly disappointed with this deli. I realize 30 years have come and gone, but this place needs REMODELING. The inside was disgusting with every table old and seats all torn up with stuffing coming out. The white ceiling tiles were coming down and had BLACK mold! I honestly thought about walking out. The sandwiches were okay, nothing special. We got them to go because we didn't want to eat inside this place! This deli serves our military on a daily basis and they definitely deserve way better!!! Please spend some $$$$ remodeling this establishment. The people of El Paso as well as our troops deserve it!!! read more

I really wanted to like this place because a real sub sandwich is non-existent in El Paso. I went during lunch, the place was packed. I realized though that the lunch meat is not sliced fresh for each sandwich. They pre-slice, pile it in plastic containers and stick it in the fridge. I had no idea how long the meat was in that fridge. I hate that. Also, it is filthy. The benches are falling apart. Tables were dirty. You would think that they could paint, clean and remodel given the amount of business they appear to be doing. Bad service today! Unfortunately I have to give them one star....Don't ask for anything on the side. Even if it comes on the sandwich because, they will charge you extra.
