I will probably not use this dry cleaner again after some extremely poor customer service. On a Thursday last month I dropped off my suit and two dress shirts to be cleaned and was told that I could pick them up at the beginning of the next week. Although i gave the worker at the time- let's call her Sally- my information, I did not receive a ticket. As this was my first time at this store, I didn't think much of it at the time. When I returned to the store, another worker- let's say Bob- gave me one clean shirt and my suit. My other shirt was missing. Bob claimed that I only brought in my suit and one shirt - and seemed to argue that I was lying to him. (Although Bob was not in the store when I dropped off my suit and two shirts originally with Sally). Bob mentioned that he was going to go check something, and spent ten/fifteen minutes staring at a computer monitor. He didn't communicate with me what he was doing. Eventually i got concerned and walked over to him to see what he was doing with the monitor. It turns out, he was looking at the security footage to, i speculate, to see if i was in fact lying to him. Turns out, we both watched footage of Sally preparing my suit and two shirts as I was giving her my contact information. Bob didn't apologize and didn't really look sorry. He also didn't seem to know what to do. I didn't pay for my clothes at the time and he mentioned that they will try to look for my shirt. And he mentioned that if they found it, that they would deliver it to my school 2 blocks away. I was annoyed because I would have to take dress clothes on the subway now twice between Manhattan and Brooklyn, but felt better with Bob mentioning that they could deliver it to my school to make the trip a little easier. (I'm a full time graduate student in a professional program) Two days later I got a text message from Bob- and a bizarre conversation ensued. Good news is that they found it relatively quickly. The bad news is that they seemed to not understand how to provide customer service to a person who would have to go out of his way a second time for his laundry for a mistake that he didn't make. I've included pictures of this text conversation below. Ultimately, I will not be returning because I felt like I was accused of lying in regard to Brown Bag Laundry losing my own shirt. I felt like they did not handle this situation properly I really wish that I could have written a better review after this first time using them- although they did give me 20% in the end. In the end, my clothes were clean. And if everything goes the way it should go with your laundry, you should have nothing to worry about. But I don't suggest this place on the off chance they lose one of your items. Update/edit: The manager recently messaged me on Yelp and asked that I change my review because he did not like how i portrayed BBL. I'd like to publicly add a caveat to this review. Everything above is a documentation of my interactions with BBL as well as how the company made me feel. People make mistakes and I'm sure everyone who works at BBL are great people, but I would hate for these interactions to happen to another unsuspecting customer. read more

You can customize your laundry, so we ask them to use free and clear detergent. They are honest and trustworthy too! After choosing their premium laundry service that states "This is BBL's premium laundry service, perfect for customers who don't have time to research complicated instructions. Just choose your care package and the Laundry Doctor will sort your load garment by garment, giving each item customized care. All Laundry Doctor packages include: Separates, Air Dry, Stain Treatment, Delicate Care, Lint Removal, Shrink Wrap Underwear, Downy Free & Sensitive Softener" I received garments back that were ruined - specifically shrunken. When I called about it - the woman on the other end of the phone told me that there's no possible way they could treat each garment one by one and that I should have mentioned special care instructions (which is precisely the value proposition that they propose in the above....why i would do that on top of the service they offer is beyond me). The ruined items have on their label "hand wash cold and lay flat to dry", but yet did not come back in the "These items were air dried" labeled plastic wrap. The ruined items were never messaged about as if BB was verifying the care instructions for those. The doctor never mentioned it. To Brown Bag's credit, they did text message me about several items they recommended to be dry cleaned, and I told them that air dry and wash in cold, as the label says. Those are the only items that appeared to have been air dried (per label care instructions) They did that, and they came out great. I can only assume the only Doctor service the Laundry Doctor provided was to sort dry clean only vs other items. Considering the cost of the ruined items AND the fact that staff told me the expectations laid out on their own website were not realistic - I would never use again nor recommend this service. $$$$ trap. read more

So i chose this place because of the amazing recommendations on YELP. Let me tell you, BIG MISTAKE. First of all they scheduled a delivery at 7pm on tuesday, they completely forgot about it and delivered it the next day. Second and more importantly, they lost 5 of our clothes, including my favorite pairs of pants, and several really nice sweaters. that is unacceptable! I filled out the online new customer questionnaire today at 11:15 a.m. At 11:17 a.m., I received a confirmation e-mail confirming my laundry specifications (If I wanted lights and colors separated, what type of detergent, water and heat levels, etc.). At 11:30 a.m., a very nice man picked up my laundry. Imagine my delightful surprise when I received a phone call at 1:15 p.m. telling me that my laundry was ready to be delivered. I had my laundry delivered to my apartment by 1:20 p.m. My clothing was still warm when it was delivered. $22.50 for 14 lbs of laundry washed, dried and folded within 2 hours! I've never written a review on Yelp but these guys are just so could I had to give them their well-deserved credit. GREAT service from end to end. The people are nice, and even accomnidating when I was running a few minutes late to pick up my clothes (~8:40 pm when they close at 8:30). The quality of clean was fantastic and my clothes look better than they have in years. The whites are so white and everything else is clean and crisp and folded perfectly. The pricing is also completely reasonable!! Which is a huge pluss for me--I work a lot so don't have time do hassle doing my own laundry but also didn't want to spend a fortune sending it out. I had 21 lbs of laudnry and it was only $30 including separatate hang-dry for my delicates and bleaching for the whites. They abandoned the neighborhood! They used to be a real laundromat. Your choice of wash it yourself, or pay a ton of money and let some poor immigrant do it. Now, they've STOPPED SELF-SERVICE. As the only Noho laundromat, they were the one place where we low-moderate income people could go to do our own laundry. They've let us down, going completely upscale for the hoity toidy who can't be bothered to fold their own clothes. Don't let them intimidate you into paying a ton for something you could do yourself. I started using Brown Bag after Hurricane Sandy because I had so much laundry that I couldn't carry it to my local hole-in-the-wall place. (They offer a pickup and delivery service that is so convenient.) I stuck with them because I was so impressed by the quality of their work. It seems a few reviewers have had problems with clothes getting lost - I never had that problem. All of my items came back to me impeccably folded every time. I would often drop off 15-20 lbs of laundry that would be ready in a few short hours, and they notified me quickly by text message! Yes, it is not the cheapest wash-and-fold service in the neighborhood, but you get what you pay for. At my previous place, I was afraid to give them anything beyond sheets, towels, and exercise clothes. No such situation at Brown Bag. Highly recommend them! read more

Hi Yelpers - been going to Brown Bag for several months now so I figure I owe it a review by now. Definitely my go-to for laundry in manhattan, I've tried a few other places but have yet to find somewhere better. I don't have time to wash dry and fold my clothes so I drop them off and within a day or two they're always ready to go, or they deliver for a small fee. Plus their hours are excellent - early rise late closing. And my man Jude is awesome, A+ service plus every time I see him he's got a smile on his face :) Even if another place gave me a better deal I wouldn't leave brown bag. When you find a good thing you stay with them and you get what you pay for (i.e. if you want to save money go try somewhere else, but I guarantee you won't beat brown bag's quality of service), BB deserves the 5 stars I and many others give it. read more

Really nice guys, and four out of five times they are going to get your order right. When they get it right it's so great and getting your laundry back is a dream. It costs more than most wash and folds, and that's because they give you all of these great choices like color and shape care, hang dry, unscented products - basically whatever you want most for your laundry they offer it. Totally worth it! Unfortunately, they are not totally reliable and every few orders they disregard the instructions. Like this week when they put all of my items in the dryer and shrank them when I had requested hang dry, or a few weeks ago when they only returned about 3/4 of my items and left me without any sheets overnight. They are always very apologetic about mistakes, and do not charge for the order, for which they deserve a lot of credit. Manager also told me they would reimburse me if any of my items were permanently shrunk, which is really solid customer service. I recommend them, but not for items that are super important to you. Also worth noting that their Sunday team seems to be the ones who have the most trouble getting orders right, which I think is the day that their regular manager is not there. read more

Reasonable prices, consistent, and dependable. I usually drop off my laundry in the morning and it will be ready for pick up later in the afternoon when I get off work. I do believe there is a delivery service also. There is a 10 pound minimum and you will be charged 10 pounds even if the amount of laundry you have weighs less, so I would recommend coming with at least the minimum. Typically I bring in about 12-13 pounds and I would pay around $18 - $20. So I would say its reasonable considering the location. I would highly recommend! read more

During a short stay in New York last month, I needed a quick and easy way to get some of my laundry done. Never having experienced the wash and fold service, I was excited about the prospect, but at the same time, slightly sceptical. I shouldn't have been, it was fantastic! After dropping off a bag full of clothes at around 2pm, I asked if it was possible to pick them up on the same day. At first they weren't sure and said they'd be in touch if it was possible. Then, at around 7pm, I got a text saying it was completed! I picked it up, nicely folded (much better than I could have done) and placed in a nice paper brown bag. For me, it's not expensive for what you get and what you don't have to do (which is nothing. I highly recommend Brown Bag Laundry and plan on using them again when I move to NYC next year. Let me begin by saying that this is my first review of a service on yelp, because I'm rarely impressed. However, Brown Bag Laundry exceeded my expectations. Everything from the customer service down to the way in which my laundry was packaged and delivered was executed in a professional, courteous, and exemplary manner. Price does not always guarantee quality. I would argue that the price is incredibly fair for the excellent standard of services rendered. Although this is my first time using Brown Bag Laundry, the company has set a very high bar, and I'm afraid that anything less than the quality of service provided here compared to other laundry services will no longer suffice. That said, I look forward to becoming a regular at this establishment, and do not anticipate any irregularity in services, given the efficient way that the company conducts business. They do an incredible job with all varieties of clothing, and their same-day service (and reasonable prices for the area) are an absolute lifesaver. I've never had anything get lost, and I also use them for dry cleaning. In addition, their customer services goes above and beyond. They also saved me when the wrong laundry company picked up my laundry and Brown Bag figured it out immediately and let me know, which they really didn't have an obligation to do.
