Alright, their lobster roll was debatably the best I've ever had. I'll probably dream about it. But at $25, it better have been amazing. Their tater tots were nothing to write home about, and the truffle tater tots didn't have enough truffle flavor for me. I think it suffered from too much info & needed better grouping organization. It really needs a decision tree format to clarify what's available. The first division would be entrees, (including lobster roll, fish & chips and others without the 3 steps. After that their menu is pretty much the same as Chipotle (& others), except is that you choose the protein before the format. Don't know if they want to use another restaurant's name but at least people are very familiar with that ordering process. I have never had a lobster roll before and wow what a flavor it is! It came with a side of parmesan tater tots and I recommend the tots no matter what. Lobster roll was meaty and hearty. The buttery bread was a winner as well. Mouth watering indeed. They've got a good deal of other fish options which I would like to try the next time I'm in. Thankful that they have other locations in Chicago. They're environmentally conscious (to an extent) when it comes to straws. Make sure you glimpse the poster they have by the water refill station. I love seafood and am always looking for new fast casual seafood restaurants to try so Brown Bag was the perfect lunch option. I went over lunch and was planning to eat inside but, with COVID capacity they only have two tables available so I was forced to eat in my car. So if you're planning to eat here, prepare to do takeout. They have a decent sized menu that allows for a lot of customizations but, I opted for the lobster roll because those can be hard to come by in Chicago. I asked to add cheese expecting it to be melted but it was just like grated Parmesan that I ended up picking off. The sandwich was phenomenal! The lobster had great flavor, they gave me plenty of lobster in the sandwich, the roll was toasted and buttery, and I loved the sauce on the sandwich. Though I had plenty of lobster inside of the sandwich, I felt the roll itself was small and the portion of tater tots was pretty small too in my opinion. My meal was $30 for the sandwich, tater tots, and a sprite; a little steep for lunch lol. The food was great! My only knocks are the significantly limited indoor seating and I thought the overall portion sizes were small for the price point. Our whole group tried all of the tots (hard to mess these up!) and the Louisiana slaw (10/10 and I don't even like Louisiana hot sauce). I got the curry fish cakes with the grains and greens (11/10! It was so perfectly salty and flavorful. And again the tartar was so good and I don't usually like tartar sauce.) One person got the white fish with salad and another got the tuna with the mixed and they both said their meals were also a solid 10/10. The gingerade was also soo good. It shouts great/nice dinner spot, but without the price tag. I ordered a veggie box with salmon, alongside a clam chowder. Both were absolutely delicious! Plus, I didn't feel bloated or gross after! I got both things to go and their clam chowder came in a coffee type cup. It was pretty funny to me while I was driving and sipping on my clam chowder as if it were a drink instead of soup. I'm impressed. It's a "pick your entree and sides" kind of place. The service is very friendly and the food is very good. On top of all that, the prices are really good, particularly for seafood. I had the salmon veggie box. The salmon was cooked perfectly to my liking and there was a good sized portion. Bf got curry fish cakes power box and he rated it five stars. The two people who helped us with our orders and brought our food were exceptionally friendly and helpful. I like veggies and try to eat more , and the veggie box had a unique mix of broccoli, green beans, fresh spinach and other green vegetables. No complaints about this place whatsoever! I definitely think chowder is preferable to different consistency, fresh herbs and I love that it's not over loaded in potatoes. My next go to is the lobster roll and truffle tots. I can take a skip on the tots but mostly because I'd rather load up on other food here. I recently sat inside because it was just a little cool for me outdoors. I felt comfortable. She said fish sandwich was good which pleases me cause the lobster roll had shrimp and claw meat, which is like filler and not real lobster meat. Shrimp is cheap and claws are rubbery. So hence 3 stars. We were there at 11.30 on Friday and it was empty, so that made me wonder. I love this place. I love seafood but it's frequently inaccessible or inconsistent or only available in high end places. Brown Bag is a great place to get your healthy or not so healthy seafood kick. Besides the grilled shrimp tacos, I had the truffle tator tots, spicy cauliflower, my friend has the flounder atop veggies. It's delicious and quick and will not break the bank. Paying over than $15 for a very small piece of fish and barely any veggies isn't worth it! If I tell you that a protein bar will fill you up more. I won't be kidding! I usually judge the restaurants by their food generosity! This review has nothing to do with the personals that work at the place very nice people though. I always support the local places that's why I'm giving three! I would recommend the owner to get inspired from California Fish and Grill how they handle food preparation and portion served. Just happened to see this while driving by, stopped in with my wife, I had the salmon Firebox, my wife had the haddock power box with cilantro lime slaw. Both meals were pretty damn fantastic ! Very fresh well-seasoned fish on a bed of very good grains. the woman at the counter was a little " meh" all I really ask is that you MATCH the energy of the person you're interacting with. I felt like I paid $13 for a plate of tater tots rather than a lobster roll! Don't get me wrong the place is beautifully designed and I prefer to spend my money at places that use quality ingredients so I was really excited to try this place. I walked in and the staff there were really really nice, but I wish the guy taking the order was honest with me about the size of the lobster roll. It was a great sunny day so they had the sliding doors open and I was so excited to sit, read and feel the gentle breeze blow through the room. I got my order quickly but I was disappointed at the portion size especially because most of it was TATER TOTS!!! That's right the same ones you can buy at a store. I had written a review and posted a photo of this establishment a few weeks ago but the owner apparently had Yelp remove it, so I will repost. I also attempted to contact the owner directly regarding my issue, to which she ignored. I ordered a lobster roll for takeout and there were a number of problems: 1. The bun was burned and left the lobster roll tasting of bitter, burned bread. 2. The lobster was unlike the ones you see in the pictures. Unfortunately, since my previous review with photo was removed and I do not save such (unappealing) photos on my phone, I'm not able to re-upload the picture again. Rather than served in huge chunks of claw and knuckle meat as depicted in some of these reviews, the lobster meat was all mushed up. 3. They also really skim on the lobster meat. A good 1.5 inches on each end of the roll wasn't cut and wasn't filled with any lobster meat. 4. As another reviewer commented, the lobster was dry and lacked flavor. Very underwhelming and didn't live up to the price tag of $25 at all. read more
