Came here the other night for dinner and enjoyed it! I ordered the salmon on top of quinoa/grains w/ spinach and it was delicious. The salmon was cooked well albeit a tad more oily than I would have wanted. I also ordered the tater tots which were delicious and I liked all the sauce options you could choose from. All in all it was a great meal. I also really liked the nautical theme of the restaurant and overall ambience. Ordered it for delivery and I thought it was great. I got the white fish with a grain and veggie pack and also a small chowder. I wasn't that hungry and I wanted something lighter. This was perfect. This is basically healthy, fast casual seafood. The portions are tiny so what you're eating is definitely "low calorie". The food is fine, maybe on the bland side given the healthy focus. Brown Bag Seafood is a solid fast-casual option -- even for vegetarians like me! The ordering process is simple: you pick your main ingredient (fish, chicken, or veggies) and your base and add a sauce (I recommend against this unless you are absolutely craving one of the special sauces; there is a free sauce bar so there's no need to spend the extra $$) or sides if you want. You're given a number and the food is brought to your table when it's ready. The food tasted fresh and healthy and the portion was exactly the right size--enough to be filling but not enough to leave me stuffed. The cauliflower (the veggie option I tried) was fine but I'd probably try the broccoli next time just for variety. We ordered lobster rolls to go and by the time we ate it (which wasn't long), the food was pretty cold. That didn't bother me as much as the Parmesan tots (they come as a side to the lobster rolls) since those were hard and incredibly dry. The lobster rolls themself were pretty good, they were fairly generous with the lobster. The lobster roll could have used more hot butter and flavor but overall were pretty solid. This wasn't the best one I've had but if you're in the mood for one and are nearby I'd say give it a shot! read more

I'm amazed when I went to this place. They have a nice and good interior design. The surroundings were neat and clean. They have a lot of tables and chairs inside. It's perfect for the date. They also have a table and chair for outside dining if you want to enjoy the view and fresh air outside. I tried their Lobster Roll. It's a maine knuckle and claw lobster stuffed into a fresh toasted New England bun and served warm with truffle parmesan tots.It was a little bit expensive due to a global shortage in sustainable lobster, the price of Lobster Roll has been temporarily increased. It is worth the price when you taste it. You will definitely order again. I like their salmon where it's grilled and marinated with a light teriyaki glaze. It was so good. Ended up having a quick late lunch here while visiting a client. I had never been so I didn't know what to expect. It's a quick order spot and set up similar to a chipotle where you choose your protein and the type of meal you want to have with it except it's all seafood. I ended up ordering the combo which was a fried filet of fish and fried shrimp and it was served over a couple spinach leaves and some wild rice/grains (it was their Protein selection). My friend and ended up getting catch of the day and served as the protein version as well. I might have had food envy because his was served grilled/pan fried without all the extra batter and looked way better and way healthier! This review is for delivery only. Brown Bag Seafood is one of my go-to places to order food via Postmates. Their food is always super fresh. I love the shrimp on the salad base, but I do find the portions to be a bit small, so I always ask for extra protein and the veggie blend added. That combo is perfect and leaves me full and refreshed. Such a lovely refreshing meal! Looking forward to next time I order from here! Maybe one day I'll make it in person too! read more

Surprise!!! Don't be fooled by it's cover. The fish and chips, dipped in tartar sauce is delicious. And the potato wedges, dipped in tartar sauce, are the best I've ever had. Their bar menu is extensive, so know what you want when you get there. I had a really good and potent vodka lemonade mix. Highly recommended. The staff was soooo friendly as well as management. Because we were raving about how good the food was, we met the chef, who we gave a standing ovation. Can't wait to return. Residential street parking is free until 5:00 pm. read more

After our meal I tried again to see if it was ready but it wasn't so the woman at the counter gave me a card w/ for a free chowder next visit. I just tried this place for the first time. The grilled salmon box with half vegetables and half grain (brown rice and quinoa) was delicious. I can't believe the quality of the fish. I got the the fish tacos and clam chowder. The fish tacos were the only thing that didn't suck. The clam chowder had no flava. My bf got the white fish dinner with a side of tasteless vegetables. The white fish ended up being like 3.5 oz, it was teeny tiny. The vegetables seriously tasted like they'd forgotten to season them. I'm a small person and I don't eat a lot, but we were BOTH still hungry when we left, this is something that has actually never happened to me before. This is my go to place when wanting to get food fast that is healthy. You can get a nice, fresh piece of fish on top of a healthy portion of mixed greens, grain blend or vegetables. I haven't come across this style or accessibility anywhere else and love it. Their homemade lemon EVOO salad dressing that comes with the protein/ salad combo is delicious. This is nothing like my neighborhood brown bag fish place!! Next time .... I'll order grilled fish with dairy free tartar sauce and the power box ancient quinoa and greens and lemon sparkle water. There are so many healthy options on the menu here! However, This Time, I was full throttle, 100 miles and running, visa chip enabled, in the mood to order good old fashioned fried fish with side o tater tots, plus a red-blooded Real Coca-Cola. The fresh catch of the day (cod) itself was extra flaky and white. The fry batter, in my opinion, over-powered and raped that beautiful piece of fish. With cod, I like a light beer batter that fluffs up and bubbles over, barely touching the fish... one that grabs hold of a hint of lemon juice and does not crumble apart into the boss sauce. This batter was thick, hard, and crumbled like it begged to belong on a Japanese Katsu fried chicken. The place was empty when I walked in. The Line Cook was amazing. He took time from the line to explain everything, made recommendations, and got my order going while the boss was in the back paying bills. I tried to focus just on the food, which was delicious; just different than I was expecting on a snowy, cold Chicago day. Yet, the bathroom was atrociously littered with papers and things...I quckly washed my hands eyes closed. I went to grab my own food when my order was up, but they actually have a waitstaff. Lastly, my sip of Coca-Cola was so flat, it ruined the tater tot nirvanah I was experiencing. İ imagine this is a great place for Roscoe Village Moms to take their kids to eat before Dad gets home from work. I like Brown Bag downtown, and I like it uptown (not Uptown. That's an actual place). This is right under my brown line stop so super convenient to grab on the way home. Stopped in yesterday and had crispy fish tacos (2 per order, with a bonus one for Taco Tuesday) with buffalo tots. Very tasty! I love pickled veggies. Two pieces of fish per taco is solid as well. Love the boss sauce, but as other reviews have mentioned, the ranch is way too dill-y. I see the owner has been commenting on reviews - so here is my question. Where can I find the list of daily specials? It seems to me from passing by that they are set per day of the week (Taco Tuesday for example) but I can't find it on the website. Honestly-- this seemed like a lazy attempt at a seafood restaurant. Ordered fish tacos and fish sticks. Were not warned that the fish in the fish tacos and IS EXACTLY the same fish (same shape, fried in the same way) that is what they call "fish sticks." So basically I was served 6 identical pieces of fish, two in a flour tortilla. Quality of fish was OK. The sauces left a lot to be desired. The ranch had way too much dill. The boss sauce was weird. Tartar sauce was good. Hot sauces is just Frank's. Lazy. Decor looked nice, but lacked utility. The outdoor tables are grated in wide intervals so you cant stand drinks or sauces without issue. We recently popped in for lunch on a nice warm Saturday. There weren't many patrons inside, but there were a few more seated outside in the patio. As first timers, the lady who took our order was very nice explaining the menu to us. I definitely like the variety they offer here, with your choice of protein and sides. We liked it so much, we ending up ordering take out the next day. On our dine-in visit I had the lobster roll and it was delicious. Lobster rolls are pretty much a hit or miss for me depending if the establishment uses only claw meat (vs tail meat). This roll had a mix of both, very delicious, over a soft buttery bun. The parmesan tater tots were ok for me (though you can request it with fries - not on the menu I think). My husband got the fish bites (cod) over veggies which I tried some of. They gave a LOT of veggies - so much we ended up saving most of it for a later meal lol. The following day I had the whitefish lemon broiled over salad. The whitefish was really good and the salad was standard greens. I am definitely looking forward to coming back and trying some of the other fish options. read more
