Wedge Salad

In Midway and stopped in with friends for lunch. Two of us shared the grouper fingers. Hot and crisp. And the fried green tomatoes. Didn't particularly like their bouged up version with small bits of shrimp and balsamic. Just give me good ol' fashioned fried green tomatoes. 104

I love Midway and this is a great choice for lunch. My favorites are the Club Sandwich and The Kentucky Hot Brown. The Mornay sauce is delicious and I love that they put ham on the Hot Brown. It is one of my favorite Hot Browns anywhere. The portion size is perfect for me -not too much and not too little. The Blind Squirrel has rare and collectible bourbons for sale and they have a wide selection for drinks.

Staff is friendly and helpful. This is a good place for dinner. I started with the fried green tomatoes. Last time they were amazing. But this time they were cut very thick and not cooked very much. My catfish was good with crispy tots . The Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. The hot brown was good. The midway restaurant is nice inside with a good bourbon collection. I believe it's better than Frankfort.

We hit the Brown Barrel for lunch with some friends. The restaurant has a big outdoor patio and a section of the restaurant with big doors that were open. We sat in the quasi outdoor area because it was beautiful out. There were lots of TVs showing different college football games which was nice. The staff were all very friendly and helpful with suggestions. We tried the Loaded Brown Barrels, potato skins, and the Fried Banana Peppers, all were delicious! I have to say the Brown Barrels were amazing though. Some of the food we had were the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich with sweet potato waffle fries, the fish and chips, and a build your own burger. Everything was good. The Nashville Hot Chicken had great flavor with just enough heat to not be too spicy. The coleslaw was good but there was only a small amount on the sandwich. The sweet potato fries were good too. My friend that had the fish and chips said the fish was seasoned perfectly and it was lightly battered so it wasn't greasy. The burger was good and just what my friend wanted. The beer was cold and the cocktail drinks were made well. If you are in Midway and are looking for good food, great service and a nice atmosphere, I recommend checking out the Brown Barrel!

Apple tart with ice cream was a winner.

Initially we had planned to stop at Wallace Station after visiting the Headley-Whitney Museum, however, the long line of people and packed parking lot said find a restaurant in Midway. After some discussion we decided on the Brown Barrel. Fortunately we were able to get a table immediately and had pleasant and friendly service, My wife ordered a chicken salad that was quite large. I ended up with the crab cakes that came with a salad, and coffee. The salad was fine and I did get refills on coffee that was good. Although the crab cakes were good sized and tender the sweet Thai chile drizzle was a bit overpowering in my opinion. The apple tart with ice cream was a winner. It was delicious and enough for two to share and reasonably priced. Based on ambience, service, and my wife's chicken salad I gave them 4/5.

The food was fabulous! The restaurant was crowded and noisy but we had only a short wait for an inside table for two. Outdoor tables were present, but our wait would have been longer. Hubby had been here before and wanted me to have the experience as well. His house salad was generous and tasty, and the ravioli with chicken was delicious. The wedge salad exceeded my expectations given that it starts with flavorless iceberg lettuce! The addition of the dressing, cheese, tomatoes, and bacon enhance the crunch of the lettuce and provide good flavor. The piece of catfish was huge and I took half of it home for a future lunch. That meant I needed to save some of the mashed potatoes, but that wasn't so hard due to the generous salad. We will definitely return for another experience.

Grouper fingers

Food and service is about as good as it gets at this hidden gem in Midway. Went to their second location in Frankfort a few weeks ago and it was awesome too! Had to get the grouper fingers again since it's one of my favorites now. So many options on the menu. Great little downtown shops also to enjoy

I ordered the burger without the bun or fries, and it was so overly salty that I struggled to finish it. My wife had the CACIO de PEPE, which tasted quite different from what we're used to, and the pasta was overcooked for our liking. My brother-in-law ordered the fish tacos, which were easily the standout dish at the table. My sister's chicken cesar salad was decent but nothing particularly memorable. The restaurant itself feels a bit unexpected for a rural setting, which may help explain its strong ratings. For me, though, it's not a place I'd go out of my way to visit again--more of a "fine if someone else suggests it" kind of spot.

The atmosphere is super cozy and we felt welcomed from our first steps in. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and we met Michaela who took fabulous care of us for the evening! We settled in to a couple of their specialty cocktails (midwinters night dream and cardamaro manhattans - yummy I'll say) and the Brussel Sprout starter. Let me say to come hungry because the portions are large but yummy. The sprouts are a meal all by themselves! But there's more! I had the porcini rubbed filet and Teresa had the cabbage confit. Both portions were sizable and while I know she loved her cabbage, I was in heaven with a perfectly prepared filet that just melted in my mouth. Plus the asparagus spears and the Okinawa sweet potato mash were perfect accompaniment! Sadly, there was so much goodness we ended up bringing some home and we'll have to come back for dessert and another menu sampling. All in all a very memorable experience and a great place for a birthday dinner! But we'll be back just because! Special closing shout out to Michaela for taking such great care of us.

Before I get into the food, I just want to add that the timing was good all around. We were sat immediately. Our waitress took our order and was very attentive. And even the food came out in a timely fashion. Now on to the food. We both enjoyed the chicken and everything else that was on our plates. For me what made my night was the ribs. I'm not a person who likes a sweet sauce on their ribs. For my taste, these were the best ribs that I have had in a very, very long time. The sauce made the ribs for me. We were both well satisfied with our meals. In short, it's nothing fancy. But the food is delicious and they do what they do well. I would definitely return if I was in the area again. And yes, I would recommend giving them a try.

We sat mostly on the front patio with a table or two inside later in the evening. Everyone ordered their own food and drinks. Adam and his bar staff took great care of us. They got the first rounds of drinks taken care of then took food orders. The deviled eggs were popular, plentiful, and delicious. I got the fried chicken (again) with a side of real mashed potatoes and gravy. It was fantastic (again). I really should try something else sometime. But others did and I heard no complaints. They serve breakfast any time and a couple got omelettes and cleaned their plates, raving about the hashbrowns (no meat fat to cook, so vegetarian friendly). All the cocktails were good. New seasonal menu had just started and the Marmalade Sour got good reviews. They have a larger patio out back and an ample dining room. It's a great stop when in Georgetown. Rodney's is a genteel bar/eatery in a restored house with an upmarket seafood & steak menu, plus outdoor seating. For our opening course, we tried the Sea Divers Scallops. These were tandoori-rubbed and served with a sweet Thai chili sauce. The scallops had a good sear and a slight crunch, with the tandoori rub offering a mild, earthy kick and a hint of chili powder flavor. The scallop was light and melted in your mouth. The Thai chili sauce added a sweet heat combo that complemented the scallops perfectly. We then shared the Lobster Bisque, which our server recommended. The bisque was very creamy, with a slightly thicker, velvety texture than typical bisques. It was so creamy that it almost tasted like it had cheese in it, which it did not. It had a salty, slightly paprika-spiced flavor, while the sherry added a slight nutty note. This was an excellent dish and worth the drive itself. For my main course, I ordered the Lamb Chops. They were char-grilled with roasted garlic mint demi-glace and the Potato de jur, which is smoked Gouda au gratin. My lamb was spot-on medium-rare; however, the char was a little hard and bitter, especially on the edges. This was present in most bites. The mint sauce added a touch of sweetness and depth to the meat's flavor. The potatoes were cooked through and offered a slight chew. The Gouda was creamy and nutty, pairing well with the potatoes, though it needed a bit more seasoning. My wife chose the Filet for her main course. She ordered it medium rare with Weisenberger white cheddar grits and green peppercorn cream sauce. Her grits were cooked well and not overdone; the cheddar was only topped on the dish and not melted into it, but it did offer a sharp bite. We both found them to be bland and in need of seasoning. The peppercorn sauce was creamy, with the onions adding texture, crunch, and a slight sweetness, while the peppercorns popped with flavor and mild heat. The steak was seasoned and cooked to a perfect medium rare; it melted in your mouth. However, the hard char on the edges added a heavy, bitter flavor to most bites. Rodney's menu features appetizers, soups, salads, prime beef selections, entrees, side dishes, and desserts. They offer a full bar with beer and soda selections. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and will offer suggestions and advice. The Fat Man says that Rodney's on Broadway is Fat Man Approved with 2 chins.

Alicia W provided exceptional service and was a joy to talk to. We tried the caviar and duck rilletes to share. The rilletes were the only thing we thought we could have done without. The duck is a bit rich and stringy and the bread really detracted from the dish - too hard and chewy. That said, the portions of each were very generous. Next we had the aguachile and corzetti with garlic scape pesto. The shrimp reminded me of ceviche as far as flavor profile. The pasta was unique from our perspective - never had corzetti. Both dishes were very good. Next was the salad as we do not like beets or gazpacho. Nice fresh salad with a dressing that was better than a typical vinaigrette. For mains we had the duck and the ribeye. Duck was prepared perfectly and the ribeye had a pesto and the patatas braves with accompanying (mild) chili sauce was a nice side addition. Very Espana!! Couldn't finish the steak by that point but enjoyed it a few days later. And finally the cheesecake and chocolate hazelnut choux pastry. The pastry was awesome!!
