We stopped in for lunch on our bourbon tour. My salmon was overcooked with not a lick of seasoning. The burger was also overcooked.

Hubby and I didn't even intend on coming here but we are so glad we did! We were looking for a casual sit down restaurant with good customer service and we found it! Disappointed in our visit today. I ordered the beef medallions and they were undercooked but the portion was good. My husband's salmon piccata was swimming in sauce. The meal was capped off with the worst banana pudding. It consisted of 6 vanilla wafers, vanilla jello pudding, and sliced banana. There was no ingenuity to it at all. They should not have it on the menu. It is an embarrassment to the restaurant. read more

I ordered the Cuban sandwich. Basically got a pulled pork sandwich with pickle and cheese. The bun was great, sandwich was average. Standard sweet potato waffle fries, were average. We were seated in a booth in the bar area. The booth table, seats, menus & condiment holders all needed a wipe down, felt and looked pretty grimy. Average place. read more

Stopped by to try out the Brown Barrel today. We started with the onion rings appetizer and they were great home made onion rings with a nice little sauce. My wife and I both had burgers and they were good. I had the black beans as a side and my wife had the Mac and cheese. Both side were good but needed seasoning. We finished our meal with peach cobbler and ice cream and that was superb! I'd definitely return and try out some more of their menu items. They have some tasty sounding sandwiches! read more

What an unfortunate choice. We ordered the grouper finger appetizer, which came out almost immediately. They were golden brown but raw on the inside. We sent them back and within two minutes reappeared darker but still raw. I got a blackened chicken sandwich with habanero cheese with a side of broccoli. The sandwich was less than average. The broccoli was average. My friend got their best selling sandwich the club with sweet potato waffle fries. She said the sandwich was nothing to write home about and the fries were overcooked to the point of being hard. Overall a very poor experience. read more

I don't usually post on our experiences but this was amazing all around! We sat on their patio where they allowed our dog to sit with us. Cool breeze was just the beginning. I ordered their Bourbon Barrel Smash cocktail and hubby ordered an IPA. My cocktail was perfect! We started with the grouper fingers that came with a secret house recipe of tartar sauce! Perfect app! Next I ordered the daily salad special of blackened sea bass on greens with red onions and strawberries topped with their pineapple vinaigrette. Hubby ordered the other special...crab cake po boy with perfect fries! It was all delicious! We have been traveling for 25 days and have decided that this has been our favorite one! Just wish we would have taken pictures of our meals!It's only 20 minutes from Woodford Reserve, so a perfect place to eat either before or after your bourbon tour! We were too full for dessert but we had a cooler so are taking home the turtle cheesecake and the bourbon pecan cheesecake. This great restaurant is only 15 minutes from our campsite so think we will make another trip before we leave Kentucky! read more

Ordered the fish and it came with bones in it which was not specified beforehand. Got 3-4 bones stuck in my throat although apparently that is the way they are served. The mashed potatoes were also cold when they first came out. Got a order of chicken tenders which were fine but the manager apparently still wanted to charge me for the fish because "that's how it's served". The waitress was very sweet and offered to pay for the meal, but I refused because it's unacceptable to make waitresses pay for a manager's mistake. Just returned home with family from the Brown Barrel in Midway. It was my son's choice. Great pick! Nice quaint ambiance. The food was delicious. The drinks were great. The service, well the service was unbelievable. Our server, Lauren, was phenomenal! She made our time there special! Couldn't ask for more and we had a wonderful experience. I met a friend here for lunch today, it was great weather to sit on the covered patio and enjoy the breeze. The waitress told us the specials for the day, and I decided on the Sea Bass Salad and since it has fresh blackberries and raspberries I thought the pineapple vinaigrette would be a nice dressing. The salad was fabulous, the fish was delicious, all the other ingredients were fresh and crisp and flavorful, and the dressing complimented it all perfectly. This place was recommended to us by a distiller. Quaint town and definitely want to return to see me of it. Unfortunately, we probably won't be returning to this restaurant. Service as a little lacking. Two tables sat after us ordered and had drinks before we were even acknowledged. Husband ordered a burger, which was good. I ordered the pork belly salad based on the picture here on Yelp. Do not make that mistake. Pork was a pile of fat pieces rather than the pork loins/chops shown in the photo. They graciously took it away, and I just got a wedge salad thinking it would be quicker. Told her I'd use the dressing I had since I had ordered it on the side. They brought it out and it was swimming in dressing. Even if I wanted dressing on my salad, it was too much. My husband even tried it and couldn't eat it. The waitress asked if I liked the salad, and I explained about the abundant dressing, and she laughed. Yeah, they always do that. She didn't even remember that I'd ordered it with no dressing. Catfish & fried shrimp was great! Perfectly seasoned and cooked!!! Steak was very chewy, mashed potatoes were ok, green beans were from a Can but well seasoned. Mac and cheese and French fries were good. Calamari had more Banana peppers then calamari. Overall food was ok. Wish we all got catfish and we would have all been happier. Service was also only ok. If they could improve my mood, they're worth a stop. To set the mood, we stopped here on our way from St. Louis to Richmond to avoid another crappy fast food restaurant without breaking the bank. I had just gotten shots in my back for several herniated disks and my children had been picking at one another for hours. Suffice it to say, I was grouchy. Not the best mood for a yelper. We stopped in at about 8pm and it wasn't busy. The restaurant was clean. The selection on the menu was pretty good. I would have liked to have seen another offering with the soup. The waitress was super friendly and helpful. I got the build your own burger with habanero jack cheese and a side of Mac and cheese. My husband got the fried catfish with fries. My son got the buffalo sandwich, and my daughter and aunt opted for the build your own burger as well. There wasn't anything that wasn't really good. But where they went from 4 to 5 stars was The Mac and cheese! It was better than homemade which has never happened! As soon as I had a bite, I forgot the agony of my back and my mood was immediately lightened! So yummy! They aren't too far off the road either so it's the perfect place to go if you want to avoid the fast food traveling trap! Would definitely go back! read more

My husband and I dropped in Thursday evening and ordered burgers. They were cooked to perfection!! The side of sweet potato fries were a yummy side. We left with satisfied tummies and smiles, declaring we now had a "new" favorite place to eat! Fast forward to today. I ordered a Caesar salad with blackened chicken. It looked delicious, but after the first couple of bites I had to push it away. It was over the top with sodium! No other flavors could be identified due to the heavily salt taste. Very very good! I only tried it for lunch but the Philly Cheesesteak was the best I have had since living in Pennsylvania. The bread is very soft and a great proportion of meet, cheese, onions and peppers. Also the Tator tots were excellent - coming from a Tator tot expert. The old fashion was excellent as well. The Brown Barrel came highly recommended by some locals. Being tucked away at the end of the road in Midway made for a charming feel. The restaurant itself was cozy, though it was November, it's was balmy so we sat on the heated patio. Great bourbon selections, lots of menu choices. We enjoyed all of the food and appetizers. Or waiter seemed pleasant, made recommendations (I had the catfish sandwich, but blackend rather than fried. It was very good. The issue was the bourbon. I had a few pours of bourbons we can't get here in Michigan. The first seemed fine, all were served neat. The last two though were clearly watered down, the Blanton's pushing at least 33% H2O. I should've called them out on it (I had a bottle of just bought in my car, er, for $109, not the crazy a$$ prices they have on their bottles). That's the last disappointing thing. They had bottles of $59.99 bourbon they were trying to get $450 for (Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond). I mean, I guess you can try, but it seemed crooked read more

Looking for new places to eat, we decided to give Brown Barrel a try. We weren't disappointed. Starting with the grouper fingers. They were cooked perfectly and the portion was generous. The buffalo chicken dip was okay, not exceptional. Wedge salad and lemon brussel sprouts were a hit. Ribs were delish and tender. I can't forget the wonderful lemon drop martini. We ended dinner with the bread pudding. I have had better, but it was okay. Our server Taylor was right on top of things. We will definitely add this to our list of restaurants to revisit. read more

This place is our go to in Midway. My entire family enjoys Brown Barrel. We have eaten here many times. We have always had great food and excellent service. The hot brown and grouper fingers are consistently fantastic. Local beer, nice wine selection and great cocktails. Love this place. Great take out as well. Always ready on time and piping hot. Was a great little fund on our way home from a bourbon tour. We had the 12oz NY strip with potato cake and veggies. The steak was delicious with a nice sauce and the potato cake was perfect.
