Finally I was able to come here after hearing some of my friend say how good it was. It's in a busy area so parking isn't so good. I circled the block a few times and finally got a spot right in front . When I walked in the place was a little packed . I couldn't figure out where the line started so I just had to keep asking ppl if they were ordering until I figure it out lol. I decided on a red velvet cupcake and I also got 2 slices of the lemon cake . The cupcakes are huge and the slice of cake are too. I think the price is reasonable for the amount of cake. I think it's enough for two people . Both were very moist and not to sweet which I loved . My only complaint is the set up. They may need to invest in a sign saying where people should line up at. Oh wow! These cakes are delicious! I recently visited Brown Sugar to purchase five slices of cakes. During my visit, if you purchased five slices, you get a six one for free. That was a win for me! I purchased the rainbow sherbert, caramel, pineapple coconut, turtle, the Obama, and vanila cream/caramel slices. Man!!! Every slice was delicious! All of the cakes were moist. My colleague has been going on and on and on about Brown Sugar Bakery, so when she called me this morning at 7am (#rude) to see if I wanted to go there with her I said sure. We pulled up to BSB around 941am and there were already 3 people waiting outside for the place to open at 10am. When the bakery opened and we walked my mouth dang near hit the floor. The cakes all loved so color and delicious. Next thing I know I was ordering 4 slices of cake (to share with my friends not all for me SADLY) which included Rainbow Sherbet, Strawberry, Pineapple Coconut and The Obama. The lady assisting me mentioned that if I ordered 5 slices I'd get one for free so of course I took them up on that deal and ordered the Dreamsicle and asked that my free slice be the famous Carmel. Just as I was about to walk out the door they brought out the Vanilla Cream Carmel cake so I had to get a slice of that too.Thankfully, today is my cheat day so I didn't feel guilty at all about strolling out of there with 7 slices of cake; especially since my colleague had 8! When I meet up with my friends and they saw all the slices they were down to do a good old fashion cake tasting and grabbed forks. We enjoyed all the cakes finding them to be moist with amazing frosting. We did a ranking of our top 3 and they are the Vanilla Cream Carmel, Rainbow Sherbet and Carmel. I do recommend drinking milk with any slice of cake from here because they are generous with the frosting. While previous reviews mentioned the service not being all that good, I must say that everyone I interacted with in the bakery was super friendly and helpful with helping me make my selections. My babies really enjoyed their birthday cake that we ordered from Brown Sugar Bakery. The girls (twins turning 9) decided they wanted a cupcake cake, and since my boyfriends mom lives just around the corner from this establishment my boyfriend was very familiar with them so he suggested we go with them. Ordering was easy by sending an email with a picture of what we wanted. We went with a rainbow cupcake cake that consisted of an assortment of chocolate, yellow and red velvet cupcakes. Okay, I'm sorry I had to take away 2 stars... and that's not because of the quality of the desserts I had but rather the quality of customer service. SO SAD! Their product is great, BUT... I've never seen a company so hard to buy from! Limited delivery options! Some employees don't even know they're available thru PostMates. The Navy Pier location has no phone number listed online. When I called the main number, indicating I'd spent 10 minutes searching for it and was told "I'll tell them and... well we have all of the numbers here." Everything is supposed to be made fresh daily, yet the Navy Pier location sells older refrigerated product. Today for example... a morning delivery was expected, yet by 2:00 they'd received nothing. I'm on the pier everyday and have gone in, only to wait for someone behind the counter to finish texting before they'd help. Stopped by here on a beautiful, sunny summer day. I left feeling so satisfied with a smile on my face, and promised myself I'd be back! Give this was my first time here, I did not know where to start. I asked one of the staff members if she had any suggestions, and she was excited to hear that it was our first time trying Brown Sugar out. She walked us through the variety of tempting bakery items on display, and specifically pointed out the caramel cake as their best seller. She offered us a sample which was very kind. I ultimately settled on getting a slice of their special caramel apple cake topped with pecans (the exact name of this item escapes me). Normally, I'm not a huge fan of desserts in general, but this slice of cake was remarkable! The caramel icing/topping was very thick/creamy and was perfectly paired with the spongy, soft cake. I highly recommend stopping by this place! The sense of community here is very strong, and all the items seem to be baked with a lot of love and passion- that alone makes me want to spread the word about this place. I ordered a 4-layer Rainbow Sherbet Cake from Brown Sugar Bakery off of Goldbelly. The cake arrived on time today in decent condition. It suffered a few dings from either packing or shipping, I can't tell. It was a little lopsided and imperfect but the color of it is really eye catching. It came frozen, wrapped in parchment paper around the sides and plastic wrap around the entire cake. They mailed it in a mini styrofoam ice box that kept it in place, with two large ice packs to help keep it frozen. I left it the out at room temperature for 2-3 hours per the instructions. However, I noticed the cake started to look a little more lopsided from buckling, and a part of the buttercream started to separate. I simply pushed it back on the cake and it looked decent. The taste however is a buttercream lovers dream. I could taste the lemon and strawberry layers right off the back. The lime and orange layers are a little bit harder to distinguish. They both just tasted like sweet vanilla buttercream, but still good. The cake was very very moist, and you could definitely tell the buttercream was made from scratch. I paired it with Rainbow Sherbet Icecream and it was delicious. That's cake can easily feed approx 20 people without a second piece. I would definitely order again. Also, I believe the 4-layer Rainbow Sherbet Cake on the BSB website is around $60. I bought this same cake off of GB for around $80 which included overnight delivery. read more

I purchased this cake on Saturday and was extremely excited to try it due to all of the good reviews I've heard. I can say that the customer service was good. The workers were extremely friendly. I went to the bakery and the line was very long (about 8 customers). The shop was hot, small, and very uncomfortable to stand in line in because there was nowhere to stand. There was no order and people were cutting the line. I feel that they should have numbers to keep the customers in order, and a bigger shop is definitely needed. As I peered at the cupcakes and cakes in the glass I noticed that the presentation was not good. The cakes were unattractive and sloppily made. Many were smashed against the glass and falling over. I purchased a 26 dollar, 2 layer caramel cake. I'm highly disappointed in this cake. It was for a family member's birthday so I was expecting a beautiful cake. Instead my caramel cake was very uneven in layers. The layers were flat and lopsided. The cake was just ugly!!!! It looked like I baked it myself. The frosting was loose in consistency. It was just an expensive, low quality cake. The box that they stored it in was cheap and fell apart easily. After 2 days of proper storage I had to throw the cake out because it did not store well. It went from being moist to dry extremely fast compared to other bakery cakes that I've had. I will never purchase a cake from here again. I'll stick to buying Angelica's Caramel Cakes in Hazel Crest. Her cakes last forever...Not forever but they keep for a while before becoming stale, plus they are beautiful. read more
