I think I have to give this place another chance. I got the red velvet funnel cake which came with cream cheese icing and it was huge for $8. That's a great price compared to what you have to pay at a fair. The only problem was that the flavor seemed a little off. Or the texture. I'm not completely sure. I am so impressed with this neighborhood gem! The prices are very reasonable and more importantly, the treats are delicious! They have a large menu that offers a variety of treats, the service is quick, and the desserts are delicious. I got a mini funnel cake with a large scoop of ice cream (sans toppings and whip cream) for a little over $6. The funnel cake was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the puppy chow flavor tasted just as described. Yum! So sad I didn't get a better picture of my dessert. This place is so cute! There are a ton of yummy options, and the hours are great! We went at 5pm on a Sunday and the line was deep. I love the premise of this place. It is a confectionery desert lovers dream. There are many snack option or combination of options available. I was sold after seeing the pics of funnel cakes topped with sweet treats sundae style. This is a small stand with window service only, so I parked on the street and walked up to place my order. The snack was ready in a couple of minutes after paying and I took it back to the car to eat. I was a little underwhelmed. The funnel cake sundae didn't hit as hard as I expected it to. I've passed this place SO many times, on my way home from work, and I always see a bunch of people waiting at the window, and at times even a line. Yesterday, I left work late, and since my commute was going to be more than an hour, I decided to grab a sugary snack. To the point where I have actually skipped my treat - several times - just because I didn't want to spend over an hour waiting for it. And that's after driving all the way here - only to see the line stretch down the block. Very unnceccessary. They should funnel some of their funnel cake money into more staff and equipment. Get it. Get it. But it's not one of those hipster places where you wait for an hour and then you wonder why the hell you waited. This is the real authentic old style incredible desert product (that's meant to say dessert, but you know, these shakes would be great in the desert too), that you're dreaming of. Unless of course you are a hipster in which case you should go get the Aubergine Aioli somewhere else. The decor is hot pink (like my girl) and beautiful (like my girl) and the whole place is just a dream come true (like my girl). I used to LOVE it here however, they've recently changed the way they make their sundaes and it's horrible. A traditional sundae is ice cream then toppings - fudge, whipped cream, peanuts, cherry. They put the hot fudge at the bottom which instantly melts the ice cream and basically gives you a milkshake that you have to race to drink because it'll overflow if you don't. They put peanuts then whipped cream so it doesn't look as nice (like it's supposed to) and, they're hiding the fact that they're giving very little peanuts. The service couldn't be slower. It took me 25 minutes to get 1 sundae and 1 kid's scoop of ice cream in a cup. I have been going there for over 20 years (for the little girl who said that's not possible when I said why I didn't like the sundae, while she couldn't be out of her 30s if she's a day). I am 50 years old. Yes, I've been going there since before some of the staff was even born. Which brings me to the poor customer service and young, inexperienced, sass-mouth employee. There's NO parking but street parking in the crowded residential area so leave someone in your car or be prepared to park far away. read more

This is a little piece of heaven on earth. So they don't take debit or credit it's cash only! They only have a counter for you to pick up your dessert so once you order it's grab and go. Sugar shack is essentially a South side staple since it's opening in what is largely a residential neighborhood along 26th street. They have a large selection of choices, but keep it simple here, they specialize in ice cream and funnel cakes. Sprinkles are complimentary so the little kiddies could have a smile on their face if they finished their dinner quickly as promised :). Cash only, and when we arrived on a weeknight in early June, 6:15pm there was no queue. Wait till 6:30pm...well, now there was a queue 12 deep. Once you pay, they will note your name and call it out when the order is complete. Only three or four tables curb-side on the sidewalk (so not ideal for a huge group), but I did see a bunch of folks take their sweets to their cars or even on the stop next door. The funnel cake itself HAS to be eaten hot. Otherwise, you'd question why you are eating deep fried dough. I had to refrain from breathing thru my nose, as I inevitably inhaled a good amount of powdered sugar. The funnel cake is crisp, easily shareable between 2-3 adults (I can't find a reason why one would want to eat a whole funnel cake as it'll get cold before you could finish). I had mine with a scoop of ice cream and it hit the spot for our after dinner sweet. read more
