A great Neighborhood Place with good musicians that come play Duos trios and full bands. Local folks who love to get together and have a good time.

Wheee, on a beer bar hop in Olde Town Philly, we stopped into Brownies Pub and we lucky enough to trade spots at the bar with a couple that was leaving. The place was packed and full of energy. On a Presidental beer kick, I decided to order the George Washington Ale by the local Yards Brewing Company produced from the first President's official beer recipe. Mmmm, taste of history. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/zspnOaAN4jpseR3X7YtX5Q?select=h3UGofDy4olMJVVGwU9_-Q He ordered the Penn's Pale Ale, from Pennsylvania Brewing Co. Another great local beer and pretty light and refreshing. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/zspnOaAN4jpseR3X7YtX5Q?select=xMNi6i0OqCoy2WktUfz_rg Then to finish us off for the night, we split a Yakima Glory from Victory Brewing Company. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/zspnOaAN4jpseR3X7YtX5Q?select=KGVgWtMlxCW8UuxY7zFvmw Very smooth and packs a pretty strong taste. The only downside was that my hair ended up smelling like an ashtray after being inside this smoke friendly bar for only a couple beers. Otherwise we had a great night out, thanks to the good beer and good times at Brownies.

This place has a great happy hour, 4-6 half price draft beer. Mine was a mere $2.25. Beware tho, it is a smoking allowed establishment.

This is a fantastic place for happy hour. Half price drinks!! It's cash only, so bring some ones. It is a smoking establishment, so don't be surprised. I got a great draft beer for a mere two bucks! That's hard to find these days. And the bartender was nice and attentive. I highly recommend you stopping here 4-6 on weekdays!

Tiny pockets of garden squares with burbling fountains. Cobblestone streets. Around every corner is a sign or plaque boasting about this city's history. From the outside, it looks like you're walking into an old bank. Inside, it's just about 6:00 PM and the place is packed for happy hour (one of the few places, by the way, that has happy hour until 7:00 PM) and for one of the monthly talks sponsored by local science museums. As soon as I walked in, they found us an open spot right up front. A cheery waiter took our order - the $8 burger sliders didn't come with any fries, but they were tiny and delicious. I love the idea that this place sponsors monthly science talks. Just a bunch of nerds all gathered here to listen to local experts talk about different topics. One week it might be about rare Galapagos birds to how to preserve fossils or the etymology of vampire lore.

Huge bar, giant wall of liquor bottles, dim lighting, and a cool old-school vibe. I told the bartender that ordering a beer in a place like this felt like I was insulting him. He laughed and told me not to worry about it. The drink special was called "Naked and Famous," which honestly sounded like the perfect cocktail to order in honor of Jen. But then I spotted a dark beer on the menu that sounded too good to pass up. If you follow me, you know I'm slowly becoming a dark beer guy. I liked it a lot. The sandwich special was a cheesesteak. Sorry, I should've taken a picture of the menu. But I really enjoyed it, and for $18 it came with a mountain of seasoned fries, which feels like a bargain these days. Bomb Shell: the two people working absolutely crushed it. I don't know if they were understaffed or if Monday night got busier than expected, but they were working their tails off the entire time. Even with that, they stayed polite, friendly, helpful, and incredibly accommodating to the guy carrying around a mannequin. Great visit to Sassafras!

They recommended Nick's, one of their local spots. Glad they did! The space is nothing fancy, but it was nice to have a table by the window to people watch as we enjoyed beer and eats together. The music was good, but at a level we could have a great conversation. The roast beef sandwich on a Kaiser roll was tasty, although I'm more used to it on a hoagie or slightly shorter sub roll. That being said, my reco would be like we did - go for the superb (wow!) smoked, dry rub wings and onion rings with Sriracha aioli. (Note - The light, large rings used a Tempura batter.) Both items were totally awesome! If you're in Olde City, definitely should consider stopping by Nick's friendly bar & grille.
