I do not consider this place an ideal shop to repair Jeep or any Dodge, Chrysler products because they have no idea how to repair 3.6 v6 Pentastar engine. Paid over $900 in repairs and vehicle runs worst than it came in and diagnosed numerous other thing they said needed to be replaced on a 2013 Jeep, was only told to replace spark plugs because #2 cylinder misfire, but used cheap spark plugs. Just not happy with results at all and didn't reset check engine light. Now the same day it started ticking and was told the transmission and transfer case was going bad. I have lived with a crude installation of a catalytic converter that's so noisy for 7 years now. Because my car was old, they did not ask me, but assumed I was not interested in a replacement OEM catalytic converter so they installed an aftermarket brand without expressing the details to me. When I drove off, my car was so loud that I drove back and asked what the deal was. They apologized for making assumptions and put the car into the stall and installed some metal plate that they said would help make it quieter. ???? I drove it around and it was still very loud. I paid $1700 for them to do that work along with fixing my turn signal. They refused to change out the catalytic converter and I didn't notice they had broken my dash until several days later. I have anger towards Brown's car care to this day as my car is still running like a truck with a cut-off muffler. read more

Jeeps are custom built here, and I had a missing bolt on the track bar to by '95 Jeep Wrangler. It literally was not even connected, and since it was altered, I couldn't find anywhere that had a bushing kit that would work. I pulled in here at lunch time to see if they could make something custom for me. Within an hour they had my track bar welded back together, and they didn't even charge me! I will certainly be coming back here for other needed repairs that I am unable to do myself. read more

We've taken our Dodge Neon and Dodge Dakota here numerous times. From the minor (replacing a headlight) to the major (replacing a transmission), they always do an excellent job for us. They have great customer service too, washing and vacuuming the vehicles when they're done is awesome. Their estimates are always right on and more than once, the cost has been lower than estimated. This place is horrible. I took my car there for them to tell me what was wrong and find out how much it would cost to fix it. They told me that I had bad tie rod ends that had a ton of play and would have to replace both arms. They said it would be 1200 just to start. So a month later I had another mechanic work on it, to find out that not only were the tie rod ends the only thing NOT loose, but the left a bolt so loose, that it could be screwed on with his fingers! Part I needed cost me 50. They are extremely overpriced, and try to rob people. Only giving one star because it won't let you choose zero. read more

There was a miscommunication and they claimed in an invoice to have installed my trac bar. It was not tightened, and I wasn't mad but I wanted a partial refund, since I had to finish the labor myself. Guy up front agreed to refund me, it was all set, then the owner called me to smugly state that he didn't intend to give me any money back at all. After I hung up on him he called me to physically threaten me, call me a pussy, and challenge me to fight him in his office. DONT GO. read more

Brought my car in to have them fix the hvac. The knob turned but wasn't changing from feet to the other settings. I specifically told them that I had taken my car to Waltz last year for the same problem and it needed a cable replaced; knob lasted a year before breaking. I was told from Brown's that they didn't know where Waltz got that part from but assured me that they were getting theirs from the manufacturer so I let them replace it. After I went to pick up my car, Brown's let me know that I had a warranty on the part for 12 months or 12k miles, the cost was over $200. I was also told that it could possibly be the heater box causing it to break and that it might break again (was told after I showed up to pick my car up) and it broke within a freaking week. Called them up immediately and brought it in the next day, they wanted another $200+ to fix something in the heater box. I chose not to let them do it. I asked for them to FIX the hvac but all they did was put a bandage on it (fixing a surface issue not the cause) and doing what WALTZ already tried and stealing $200 from me in the process. I wont give them another 200 dollars to FINALLY do what I wanted in the first place. Thanks for nothing Browns, at least Waltz was cheaper and lasted a year. Point being though is if they thought something else was wrong and causing it they should have looked into that or at least let me know BEFORE you called it good. read more

I have an old Ford Ranger and an old Honda Accord (has over 250,000 miles), so, I have had a lot of work done here. I feel that they are always honest with me, whether it is good news or bad news. They are really great about explaining the mechanical issues so I can understand what is important and what isn't. --Big plus-- the service shuttle! read more

Brown's Car Care is ok for fixing "little things," like changing batteries, tires, and oil. Our 2008 Ford Explorer Sport Track engine went out a little over a year ago. They had fixed the radiator twice before that point in 2011 and 2013. I still have the receipts and print outs. Those two radiator change outs should have been red flags, but I felt they had done good work in the past, and not knowing any better, trusted in their recommendations and guidance. When the truck broke down, and the engine seized, we took to Browns - we had it towed there on a flatbed. After the initial assessment, the mechanic told us it would cost around 6.5 k to change out the radiator again (for the 3rd time) and fix the engine, something to do with one of the head gaskets and number of hours it took to break the engine down. They explained that a part from the engine had to be sent out to their supporting machine shop to be worked on - this took 2+ weeks. No vehicle that whole time. They got the piece back from the machine shop, put the vehicle back together, I paid and picked it up. When I picked it up, the vehicle smelled AWFUL, like it had been left somewhere outside in rain, with all the windows down the whole time, and with dirty oily engine part inside. I drove vehicle for less than 24 hours / a total of ten miles, and could tell the engine was still not running right after they put it back together. It felt like it would give out at any second. Fearing I would get stuck somewhere, I called them and took it back to the shop. They broke it down again, and said the part would need to go back to the machine shop - that the machine shop had screwed it up. We were without a vehicle for another 2 weeks, during the 2nd week they loaned us one of their loaners. When we got the truck back after the second break down and rebuild of the engine, they told us they were "doing us a favor," and not charging us for taking it apart and putting it back together. Really? First the machine shop is at fault, now we the customers are at fault? I drove it home, and it was no better than when I had picked it up before, it actually started smoking on the 7 mile drive home. I called them back, told them what was happening, and they told me they recommended we purchase a new/re-built engine and have it put in (approximately 9k w/ labor). At that point, we had no money left to give Browns. For 15k I could have bought a new vehicle. The truck has been an immobile paperweight since that day. Had we started with "you need a new engine," we could have made the assessment outright not to waste the money in having them repair it, or waited till we could save the additional 2.5k needed for the new engine. 6.5k is a lot of money - A LOT to families in this area. Our family has decided not to do business with Brown's anymore because of that experience, and every time I get an e-mail from them, about "it's time to service your vehicle," I cringe. Spent a couple months thinking about reporting them to the BBB, but didn't think it would do any good. The only reason, I didn't give them 1 star, was because they were able to handle things like batteries, tires, and oil changes pretty well. If your engine goes out - go to a place that only specializes in that make of vehicle. You'll be doing yourself a favor and saving yourself a lot of money. read more

I cannot praise Bob and his team enough for saving our vacation after the water pump on our Jeep failed when we were thousands of mile from home. Despite a national back order on the part, Bob found a replacement in less than 24 hours and got us back on the road. They are on my Christmas card list forever. read more

Five stars for service - although price is 3x what others cost. When my brakes went out down the street they were the closest, so I pulled my car into the lot. They topped me off with brake fluid but I still had air in the lines which also had a huge leak (brake lines had rusted through and crumbled). The staff were very friendly and helpful, and pulled my van into the covered area overnight which was great because I had some holes in the roof and the van was FULL of stuff and it was about to rain. It turns out the brake lines were discontinued so they would have to custom make them. The price they quoted me was 3x what Scott's One Stop charged me to custom make the lines, and seeing as how I literally did not have the cash in the bank I had to go with the cheaper option. If I had the excess cash I would have just left it at Brown's to take care of. So for me, price was the ONLY reason I took it somewhere else for repairs after they did the inspection. Worst place to take your vehicle for any type of car maintenance. Don't know what they are doing, charge you even if the part they supposedly fixed was jimmy rigged into place, which only needed two bolts. Very shoddy and bad workmanship and not even listening to the customer when knowing what was exactly wrong (it needed 2 bolts). The jimmy rigged part fell apart while driving on the freeway, slowed my vehicle way down, which could of ended my life. Thank goodness traffic was minimal and I was able to pull off to an exit and take side streets home at 25 MPH, which caused me an extra hour long trip home. Took my vehicle to another place (because Brown was not open on Saturday) and needed the part fixed the RIGHT WAY before driving again, and it was fixed properly as I had explained it to Browns, and this automotive mechanic knew exactly what to do (2 bolts), and I picked my car up the same day, not waiting a whole week for a part from the east coast (Brown). I went back to recover my money from Brown ($218), but they would not reimburse me because they said they warranty their work and why didn't I bring the vehicle back to them, I said they were not open on Saturday. So, they only reimbursed me the $80 I paid at the other place to fix the same problem, but it was right (2 bolts only). Bad Bad Bad place to have any work done on any vehicle. The uniform commercial code requires all business to make good their promise on their product and it is working for the purpose it was made to do. Brown's product did not and they kept my money. Starting the new year of 2013 my family and I have been going to Browns Yelm Auto Mall since they opened and have always received Excellent service. We have worked with Mike the owner of Browns and we have found him to be fair and courtesy to the community. My daughter was on her way to work when she started having some problems with her car. She was afraid that she would not make it to work so she brought her car to Brown's. Mike loaned her a loaner car so that she could make it to work without any additional cost to her. In addition, I know that the Browns have a tight relationship with the military and for many years they have helped military families in need at Christmas time. read more

My husband took his Pathfinder into browns because the front end was shaking. He told them not to fix it if they did not know what was wrong. They called him and told him that it needed new U-joints. After a bill of $400 dollars the car drove worse than when he brought it in. Come to find out it was the drive shaft, so my Husband and son took the drive shaft out, took it to Browns and asked them to fix it at no cost because they didn't fix the problem in the first place. They pretty much told him to shut up and color and would not fix it. My husband took the car to another mechanic who told him that the U-joints that Browns put on the car were the cheapest one they could use. The new mechanic repaired the drive shaft and had my husband come back the next day so he could drive the car to make sure he fixed it correctly..Should have went to him in the first place. I have no respect for a company that will not stand behind their work. I will share this with the BBB also. read more
