In NY on business, and while they allotted me like $75 to spend on food, I'd been doing like $20/ day. That was all about to change. Came in here with the intention of getting just ignorant. I was fresh off a workout, and I was about to bagel bankrupt this place. I order, everything is great, and then "we only take cash"! What century is this where a place only takes cash? They have an ATM on site, but I ain't got time for atm fees, so I leave. I come back later with a wad of cash (this was emergency cash I had packed in case I lost my card, or I came to a bagel shop that still thinks cash is king). I order the same thing, they remember me, and then I pay. But here's the kicker, no receipt either! So not only did I drop $20 at a bagel shop, but I can't even expense it. Bagels were good though, and if I could have paid with card, this would have been a 5 star. I know, that's not a good reason to give a 4 star review, but to that I say, welcome to democracy, we're not supposed to agree on all things, that's the point. The staff here got SLAMMED by being in the path of the 2018 New York City Marathon today. While not all of today's customers understood basic etiquette, the staff was AMAZING! Today's staff politely expedited the process of getting a FLAVORFUL, FRESH, piping HOT bagel into your hands in good time, given the unruly line. If you're on a diet and dragged here by bagel-loving friends, there are low-fat, nutritious options here, like Italian tuna salad, tufu spreads, low-fat cream cheese, nuts, and fruit cups. If you hate bagels, this place might seduce and convert you. Today, the bagels were impressively hot, fresh, aromatic, chewy, and tasty. While unfortunately they weren't hand-burning hot, they still had that "fresh out of the boiler" sensations Anyone who worked at this place today WORKED HARD. Excellent Bagels that you definitely pay for. Brownstone is a great bagels with tons of options- there is something for everyone. All the bagels are made at location (you can see them making them in the back), and you can taste it. There is plenty of spreads and toppings for the bagels, as well as other food options. This is one of my favorite bagel spots in Brooklyn, however the only thing stopping from 5 stars is the price. Food here is good- delicious bagels and great sandwiches. But, this morning, for the second time in my last two visits, I got overcharged for what I ordered with the counter person seemingly tacking on extra costs. Last time, I ordered a lox and scallion cream cheese bagel and the cost came to about $16. Apparently the bagel doesn't come with the sandwich ($1 extra), and substituting scallion cream cheese was an extra $4.50. Maybe this is the fault of whoever designed the menu, but charging me essentially for a $6 scallion cream cheese bagel on top of the lox (which already includes cream cheese) is ludicrous. This time, it was the employee insisting I got bacon on my egg and cheese bagel, and even after clarifying that there wasn't any, I was charged just under a dollar more than I would have paid through their Grubhub order (just re-checked, and tax is taken into consideration). In my visits, I've also noticed numerable times that the employees pay no attention to detail with how much change they give back, regardless of being a cash only place. I've seen multiple customers complain about wrong change or the employee forgetting to give change at all. If you're going to order from here, get grubhub, but don't even bother stopping in unless you feel like overpaying. read more

La Bagel Delight used to be our absolute go-to bagel spot in Park Slope not only because of their bagels but because they have great tofu cream cheese, but recently we've been feeling like the bagels aren't so fresh. So we switched it up to Brownstone Bagel. The prices might be a little bit higher, but the bagels are consistently fluffy and fresh. Plus they have fun additional items like flagels, mini bagels (which I just discovered) and a pretty awesome lemonade which they sell in these bell jars. It's pricey $3.00 maybe? but it's tart and sweet and a whole lot of lemonade and on a hot day it really hit the spot. Oh - and their tofu cream cheese is nothing to complain abouit. The only problem is that service is a bit slow but to be honest - for the number of people working there, it's no slower than any other bagel spot I'd go to in the morning. This was my spot for a while. Good bagels and they offer vegan cream cheese. However- pricing is very inconsistent, getting a bagel with avocado and tomato has ranged from $3-4.60 on any given day. Also service is meh. They also have raised the price of the bagels twice in 6 months. From 1.20 in winter of 2018, to 1.40 in winter 2019, and 1.60 in spring. Overall a decent hike between December and May. They do now finally accept cards- yay. Overall it's fine if you need a bagel but other spots are better in the area. read more

They don't write orders down and consistently mess up the orders (I go on weekend mornings but not after today). They don't seem to take any pride in service. Case in point: "Plain bagel with cream cheese." I got an everything bagel toasted. Twice. Two separate occasions. "Everything bagel toasted with scallion cream cheese and tomato." Had to repeat the order when paying - response was "oh you wanted tomato". I rarely write reviews anymore but this is Brooklyn and we are talking bagels. Certainly amongst the best bagels and, more specifically, bagel breakfast sandwiches, that I've had in New York City. I visit nearly every time I'm back in the area. The service is solid; there's one guy in particular, whose name I do not know, who livens up the entire store. Gives it a real New York feel. There is a such thing as an absolute in bagel land and Brownstone gets it. Service and environment are harried and semi-chaotic, so I'm glad I was take-and-go to avoid the stress in store. I never thought I would be on yelp reviewing oatmeal, but here I am. You guys, the oatmeal is not a solid food. It was the consistency of a soup or a lumpy smoothie. Firstly, when I opened the container, it took me several attempts as I was trying not to get douched with milk, but there was no avoiding it. I'm not exaggerating when I say that 1/8 of a cup of milk spilled on my pants, shoes, sidewalk, seat, everything was getting milked. Why would you fill up a container so much so that when one goes to remove the lid, this happens? The oatmeal was for my toddler and I didn't want him to get soaked, so I went back into the place to see if they made a mistake or what. The counter person didn't really say anything to my question and just made another one by taking a plastic container, microwaving it with literally just as much milk and gave it back to me. Honestly, after that I just put the oatmeal milk down and bounced. The oatmeal is like $5 too. When you get into the place, you also can't even order from people. You order from an iPad type thing that has limited options. For example, you can't order a flat bagel with lox. The IPads are blocked by customers waiting for food too. The entire experience was stupid. I would rather patronize a local business than Starbucks, but I wound up going there and buying a second breakfast because they at least know how to make oatmeal. read more

Only puts cream cheese on one side and I'm like man next time you gotta put it on both and he just brushes me off. These are quality bagels that are the model of consistency in the bagel world. Great location, right next to the R. I've started many of my hungover weekend mornings chowing down one of these delectable bagels on the subway. I can't wait for the warmer weather so I can enjoy their rustic outdoor seating area again (although watch out for flies they can be pesky in this area). There are areas of improvement, though. Please expand your chip selection. No one likes plain regular chips anymore. Also, it's 2017. Enough of this cash only crap. Lastly, after placing your order there is no feedback of what to do. This is a neighborhood gem. A perfect location next to the R train, and it has everything that you need: bagels with cream cheese, tomatoes, peppers, sandwich meats, coffee, muffins, anything that you want. It really depends on when you go, but the best times are in the evenings during the week and nights on the weekends. Joe at the counter (nights & weekends) is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, he's got your back and he'll hook you up. I always go here after I'm done with work Fridays and Saturdays and hang out for a little while. Often I will say "just make me something" and Joe hooks me up. read more

Yes, it's cash only but that makes this small bagel shop that much more niche and helps expedite the line. When I visited the shop last night, the bagels were just as fresh as they were in the morning.
