Delicious and creative crepes full of unique flavor combinations. The interior is super fun with lots of couches, areas for big groups, tables to work at, and lots of light up front. The coffee is always pretty darn good, but come here for the crepes as they're the real star of the show. Staff has been friendly every time I've been here. The wait for food is usually in the 10-15min range, and they give you a buzzer so you can order, grab a table, then get your food when it's ready at the counter. I didn't get to go here as a normal coffee seeking customer, but I did have the chance to go to a private music event that was held in the downstairs space at this location. The location is great, right by the Damen blue line stop in the heart of the Wicker Park neighborhood. The nightlife scene of this neighborhood was great, with lots of bars and restaurants and young people walking around. The staff was really nice to us and made us feel welcome in the space. The basement level, where the music event was held, was charming. It looked sort of like a friend's basement, but made a little nicer. There were couches and shelves with what looked like games. It was cozy. I hope I get a chance to come back and try their coffee, because while the coffee shop part of the business was closed when we were here, the menu looked fantastic. read more

More like a 2.5 but I rounded up. We came because my friend was sick of studying at Filter. Bru is a decent option though I still prefer Filter on off-hours. Food & Drink: Raspberry yogurt iced black tea - pretty good and refreshing. Macarons - got the lemon and pistachio. They were mediocre. I liked the tartness of the lemon but the pistachio flavor didn't taste authentic. Both were not chewy enough and I didn't like the texture of the macarons. Smoothies and fruit juices lean towards the expensive side. Lights - holy crap. Please fix the lights!! It's so dim. There are so many lights above but they don't work :( I understand they are trying to get this problem resolved though. For the time-being, it's nice that they allowed us to move one of the lamps right next to our table. Music - too loud! If I'm blasting my own music through my headphones and can still hear the music, it's way too irritating. Large table right before the couches towards the back - it's a very tall table and the seats are pretty low which made it uncomfortable but I loved the many outlets on the table sides. Bathroom - needs A TON of work and also a larger trash can. It seems they are using it as a storage room at the moment. At least the basic toilet and sink functions are working. I could go on and on but I'll leave it at that for now. I liked the initial set-up/idea of having an art gallery and a little performing station in the backroom although it seems (again) that they still need a lot of work on the lay-out and the arrangement back there. It's a bit confusing really right now. It's nice that's it's fairly empty in comparison to Filter and Wormhole though! read more

I'm somewhat confused by this place. It has the look and feel of a typical cafe, including comfy couches and a laid back atmosphere, but something is definitely off. I ordered a banana smoothie and an everything bagel with cream cheese. The staff member helping me asked if I wanted whole milk or a substitution, to which I replied whole milk. When I asked what flavor cream cheese they had, I was told they only have plain. I paid my $9+ and sat to wait. When my drink arrived I tried it and was surprised (and sad) to taste almost no banana. Did I just pay $6+ for whole milk? Ouch. The bagel comes and when I open it I'm greeted by store-bought Philadelphia cream cheese - still in its packaging (as if bought from Jewel). I've attached a picture. I let a staff member know about the smoothie, and to his credit he offered to remake it, but I simply didn't have the time to wait. There were also a lot of people waiting for their food/drinks, so the whole interaction was awkward. Yes, it's appreciated that you offer to fix your mistake, but you created the issue and then force me to be the bad-guy who calls you out in front of a full place. Not fun or appreciated. If you are going to charge customers $9+ for a smoothie and a bagel, you owe it to your customer to deliver a quality product. read more

There were lots of locals chilling in there and people had in-shop cups to cut down on trash. They offer food on the menu, though I didn't try any. Forgetting an order happens, and normally it's understandable. But when you pay for pricey crepes, they arrive late, the person doesn't apologize for the lateness, and they are mediocre. I think every neighborhood should have some version of a Bru. Bru has SO many menu offerings, from standard coffee and tea, to smoothies and juices, to baked goods. I stepped up to the counter and he stepped away, I assumed to do something for a moment and then return. So I waited. And waited. I was standing, fully visible, at the counter, right in front of the register, for at least five minutes while he milled around the smoothie preparation area. There's no way he couldn't see me in his peripheral vision. Finally when I was about to give up and just go sit down empty handed, he asked me if I wanted to order something. When I said yes, he said that he thought we had ordered together... One smoothie and one small sandwich for two people, hmmm okay. I got an everything bagel with cream cheese and the strawberry mango smoothie. The smoothie was okay. The bagel was served with a cup of Philadelphia cream cheese, which I spread on myself. The bagel tasted like it was probably store-bought. It definitely wasn't freshly made, as it was a bit stale. I was delighted to see they had an extensive menu of smoothies and fresh pressed juices, along with coffee and some food items. I went twice during my trip and both times ordered the flat iron juice (tons of greens) and added CBD for an up-charge. The second time I also ordered an egg sandwich on a croissant with pesto and turkey, and unfortunately that left little to de desired which is the only reason why I've deducted a star. The turkey was cold and rubbery and the egg was also cold and overall just not good. The atmosphere is lovely, tons of places to relax and get some work done or catch up with a friend.
