I'm the old fart that went back to campus 20 years later to visit, and boy is this place nice! As an alumni, I miss the arcade, but all the new shops are clean, new and convenient. I couldn't believe that you could put cereal on top of coffee now? It made me feel old, but I'm glad this place is here. read more

This cafe is my holly grail every morning! Weather i stop by before my first 8:am class or right after. I can always count on them for grabbing a tasty breakfast sandwich and a much needed iced latte or matcha latte. The team is always in a great mood and happy to help us so early in the morning so I'm very thankful for them. The cafe is super small enough to stand order and wait for your items but there's always more than enough seating areas outside. read more

Bruin Buzz has recently become one of my fav coffee spots in the area. Service is always impeccable regardless of a short or long line. The staff are so sweet, often remembering that I'm new on campus and asking how I'm doing in addition to the most sincere compliments. We all know, I love a genuine compliment ;) I mean, who doesn't am I right?! Their coffee drinks are great (I usually opt for an oat latte or vanilla oat latte), and they always do the trick. I haven't tried their matcha yet but maybe I'll go that route next week. I really enjoy visiting Bruin Buzz, highly recommend. read more

I tried Flour Fresh Cream Donuts over the summer and was so happy to see that my school sold them on campus! It hit the spot for my craving but it was dry and cold. :( Definitely get them from the original location. Grilled cheese and tomato soup combo is absolutely amazing only catch is they are either out of one or the two items most of the time or they're not running their oven. Had to pay full price for a millimeter of soup. Also service takes a while. read more

3.5 stars Bruin Buzz is one of my go-to spots in Ackerman Union for lunch. I love how they serve a variety of food, including Korean creme donuts! I only discovered this place because the Panda Express line up a floor was too long and I had a one hour gap between my 2 classes. Service is really nice but the wait can be really long for drinks since they don't have that many workers and there is always a long line during lunch hours (not surprising). Here are some of the things I ordered at Bruin Buzz so far (and I plan to come back to try more options in the future): - Creme Brulee Korean Creme Donut - 4/5 Super delicious donut! However, it gets a little hard to eat near the end because of how sweet it is. The creme brulee crunch was nice and the creme compliments the donut really well. - Strawberry Matcha Latte - 2/5 Disappointing :( couldn't really taste the matcha - I tasted more strawberry with milk than actual matcha latte. I wouldn't get it again, but it was okay to try. - Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup - 5/5 BEST GRILLED CHEESE I'VE EVER HAD! Tomato soup is very creamy and compliments the grilled cheese well. The grilled cheese is grilled to perfection. When I got my order, it was really hot! Super delicious and would get again! - Caramel Mocha (Ice Blend) - 3.5/5 Definitely got my caffeine fix from this but overtime it gets really sweet. You can choose to get whipped cream and drizzle on top of your mocha if you'd like. I like it though because it's quick for me to get my caffeine here when other stops in Ackerman are packed. However, when it's super busy, it takes a while for the drink to come out. Overall, I really enjoyed dining at Bruin Buzz and would come back again. Try it! read more

I've only had their korean donuts, which are from Flour. Although it's not fresh, they're still good, especially because I'm using a meal swipe. My favorite is the tiramisu. I liked the creme brulee, matcha creme brulee, and cookies and cream. The strawberry isn't my favorite. read more

As a UCLA student, I love coming here. I tend to have a lot of swipes, and this is one of the few places that an ASUCLA coupon will actually cover my full purchase. It is hard to hear in here, and I am hard of hearing, so I usually order via Post-It, and the staff have always been very friendly and accommodating about it. I always get a Chai Latte with oat milk & a plain croissant. The latte is delicious, and if you're really into well-made croissants you may find it disappointing (I'm sure they're not fresh made on-site), but I think it's delicious and hope you will too. I have no idea how much each of these things costs, and it may well be overpriced. I just know that I can get a large chai latte with a milk substitute & a pastry for under $9, meaning my ASUCLA coupon totally covers it. I'm taking summer courses and may not be returning to Bruin Buzz during summer, since I won't have a meal plan, but you will certainly see me here in fall. read more

I was waiting for the UCLA Store to open up and was walking around Ackerman Union when I saw a sign that says "Now Serving Cupcakes." Ahh cupcakes! Woohoo! The sign showed that there was special filling inside their cupcakes. I knew I had to stop by once I completed my shopping at the UCLA Store. When I stopped by, I saw some vanilla cupcakes, chocolate cupcakes and what they called jelly roll cupcakes. The cupcakes are kinda small in size but I deifnitely wanted to try one. The jelly roll cupcakes were the cutest. Pink frosting with a raspberry on top. I decided to get one of those. The cost of the cupcake was $2.79 including tax. Tastewise the cupcake was ok. The main cupcake itself wasn't too moist. There was filling inside but it wasn't too much. It was raspberry filling. The frosting was ok but mostly sugar base. The raspberry on top was a gummy candy raspberry. Hmm I kinda liked the gummy candy raspberry concept on top of the cupcake. It was a nice touch. Anyways the cupcakes were ok. They're definitely not the greatest but it is kinda neat to see a cupcake place on campus :). I think they should make special blue and gold UCLA cupcakes That would definitely be cool :). It tasted like medicine and kinda had a plastic taste. Perfect if you're a student looking for a caffeine pick-me-up! I'm grateful that this place is open during COVID, considering so many other places in Ackerman are still closed. I even tried to stop by another coffee shop earlier on my way to campus, but it was closed (on a Friday!). I have nothing really to complain about. The staff were attentive and lively. To give you an idea, one of the employees was singing "Since U Been Gone" while working, which did help lighten my mood. I got a small, hot caramel latte with oat milk, my go-to at coffee places. My order came out in just a couple of minutes. I'll probably go here again whenever I want to avoid my PhD responsibilities. read more

I was in Los Angeles for an interview and was staying at the UCLA hotel right in the middle of campus. I was surprised that there weren't more cafes around. The front desk folks pointed me over to the student union where there were a few restaurants and this place - the Bruin Buzz. It was mid afternoon now but I haven't had my morning coffee. I didn't want the cheap stuff in the room... I wanted my espresso. I ventured over and took a look to see what they had to offer. Looks like most of the staff here are work-study students. They were all great and extremely professional. I quickly got my order in and waited for my espresso. Nothing wrong with the service but really the coffee was meh. I would have preferred Starbucks. If you're staying at the UCLA hotel, then this is the closest cafe to you unless you do more walking or take an Uber somewhere. Not terrible but not great. read more

The thing I love most about Bruin Buzz is that it seems to be staffed almost entirely by aliens from outer space, who have found it their unhappy lot in life to have crashed onto this dismal planet, where they are forced, inexplicably, to make coffee for thankless undergraduates, (whose general appearance they have assumed, naturally, in order to make themselves less conspicuous). Never mind that they are unfamiliar with "coffee." Never mind that they have no familiarity with earth money, with its foolish denominations and ridiculous appearance. That's about all I can come up with to explain the friendly, blank stares of un-recognition when I order a regular cup of "coffee." (Would it help if I pointed to the sign, guys?) That's the only reason I can imagine for the smiling-but-shell-shocked demeanor on display as they sloooowly make my (occasionally correct!) change. The point is, imagining these scenarios in line does actually delight me, and Bruin Buzz has got the best coffee on campus -- so, four stars guys. I hope by the time your spaceship is fixed you will have the coffee thing down well enough to take some home and impress your friends. read more

Decent service and a calm atmosphere since there isn't any seating. This makes stopping by for a drink or something to eat much quieter than any other cafe on campus. However, I usually find the Black Iced Tea here brewed too strongly even for my tastes. Still, I would recommend this location if you want a good selection of drinks and pastries without the stress of navigating through tables of studying and talking students. read more

As far as I know and could tell, Bruin Buzz has the same, relatively tame and fairly-priced coffee and pastry menu as all the other ASUCLA-run coffee shops on campus (see the side of their paper cup for the full list of locations.) It's located by the Taco Bell on the A-level of Ackerman which means that if you're looking for non-pastry food, you'll have many other options of varying quality and price nearby. It also means that if you're looking for a place to sit and catch up with friends in relative quiet/calm/isolation, this might not be the best place, at least Monday-Thursday from about 10 am onward. There's some outdoor patio space toward Math Sciences which usually has some open seating, but the main seating area is shared with all the other places on this floor and features TVs blaring whatever sports things are happening. Generally, I think of it as a place to grab a no-frills coffee or standard espresso drink on the way to class, especially in the afternoon when lines at Kerckhoff are super long. However, even though you might not have to wait in line for as long, the wait for a drink might not be that much shorter, depending on the barista. read more

I really don't know what to say other than this is just a convenient coffee house for those of us who don't want to walk all the way up to Kerckhoff for, in my opinion, better coffee. I realize they are owned by the same company and they probably use the exact same coffee, but I just have this mentality that Kerckhoff is 30984309 times better. They do, however, always have the bagels that I want and don't skimp on the coffee for those of us who only like to put a tad of milk in our cup 'o joe. I'm pretty sure I can get cheaper coffee from the Carl's Jr. right next door, but this is just an easier one-stop shop for my caffeine pick-me-up in the morning. Service is nonexistent here...not even a smile or a hi from the cashier as I came up to the register. It was early in the morning, yes, but it really doesn't take much to muster up a greeting! Ordered a chai latte and a slice of banana tea bread. Chai latte was the definition of mediocrity: extremely bland, tasted only like steamed milk. I don't think the coffee here is really better than at Kerckhoff, I just think they've got one or two employees who know their stuff slightly better. The drip tastes exactly the same to me, and I drink my drip black or with half and half so I'm not drowning it in sugar. Same story, same song: it's all about convenience. read more

The drinks are inconsistent depending on who makes it. I usually come here because it's convenient for me. I love trying out their season specialties and wish that some of them would be on the daily menu instead! It is a bit pricier for the quality and taste of the drinks.
